Supermodel fashion brands and reflects great quality which is very important.
A
chance spotting by the owner of a modelling agency, paved the way for British model Poppy Delevingne’s transition from the awkward teenager at school to the hot blonde on the ramp. Despite being from an influential family – her stylist mother, the famous 1970s beauty Pandora Stevens (now we know the secret behind Poppy’s beauty), her eldest sister with a club named after her, and her younger sister, an aspiring actress – Poppy still has her feet firm on the ground. The fact that her face dons various magazine covers and that she struts for high-profile designers doesn’t keep her from pursuing her varied interests in photography, acting and of course charities.
I’m very eclectic with my style. I love shopping for vintage stuff; 60s or the 80s, big shoulder pads or laced leggings – I love wearing them.

GLAM caught up with the British model Poppy Delevingne at the Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul on August 4 prior to the Mango Fashion show. Poppy opened and hosted the runway showcasing the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. What is it about mango that you love the most? As a high street brand, it very much follows the trends from the high
Any favourite from the current collection? The collection has a story behind it. The collection is very 70’s chic. It features some incredible highwaisted tweed trousers that are simply gorgeous. You’d also love the stunning gowns. And not to mention, some really gorgeous coats in dusty oranges and dark browns in great shapes and absolutely wonderful fits. Do you have a personal style statement? I go by my moods. I read a lot of magazines and am in touch with the trends. But I don’t necessarily follow all of them. I’m very eclectic with my style. I love shopping for vintage stuff; from the 60s or the 80s, big shoulder pads or laced leggings. Is there any era in fashion that you really like? I used to say the 60s but now I’ve become a fan of the 70s. I love the big floppy hats and the vests that go over shirts. I think they’re really cute. Any accessory that you can’t do without? Belts, especially big chunky ones… I’m a big belt fan, or even handbags, I can’t live without handbags. What’s your favourite handbag brand? I love Chanel and Mulberry bags. The Mulberry bags are awesome! What’s the one thing that you cannot resist buying when you are on a shopping spree? Innerwear! I’ll buy any kind. When I pass any lingerie shop, I just have to go in! But I am one of those people who will buy three pairs for 10 pounds! I’ll never have enough of innerwear.
Do you have a style guru? There are so many people in the industry whose style I really admire; appreciate and who I think are really cool. I love Daphne Guinness even though I can never wear what she wears. I admire her because she is head-to-toe couture. How incredible! I believe Agyness Deyn has a fantastic style. She’s really adventurous and very individual with what she wears, very Brit and edgy, and I think that’s what really stands out. In what way has your mother, a stylist, influenced you in your career? She always taught me to wear things that will make me feel happy and comfortable. If you are not comfortable with what you wear, you will be very self-conscious. I learnt that from my mother. How did you get into the modelling scene? When I was in school, I was into arts and dance. I always knew I was going to do something creative. And then after I finished school, I was spotted picking up my little sister in school by Sarah Doukas who owns Storm Model Agency. And I was like “no way!” I was an awkward teenager; but I gave it a go and fell in love with what I was doing. And I actually began to enjoy it.
Maybe playing something really evil or maybe something good too! Maybe a a thriller with a twist in the end! Who is the actor or actress that you are looking forward to working with? I’d love to work with experienced actors like Meryl Streep or Kevin Spacey. I could learn a lot from then and gain from the experience. Other than mango, what other brands are you associated with? I have been doing a lot of work for the beauty division of Chanel since last year. How has being brand ambassador of mango made a difference to your career? The experience has been very different. I’ve been involved with other brands but not as much as I have been with Mango. I went to Barcelona early this year and did some amazing photoshoots there for the brand! It has been really interesting and fun. Meanwhile, as Poppy continues with her glorious modelling career, scorching the ramp for various designers; her stint with acting would be something to wait and watch out for. But we are sure of one thing, Poppy will definitely scorch the screens with her beauty and incredible presence!
Other than modelling, are you looking at another kind of career? Well at the moment, I am thinking of getting into the acting scene. I moved to New York at the beginning of the year. And I’ve spent time doing a lot of training and auditioning; so I’m looking forward to bagging a new project soon. And hopefully, modelling and acting will go hand in hand. What kind of character would you like to portray as an actress? I want to do challenging roles, the kind where I will need to put in a lot of effort.
