HIP& HAPPENING

What’s in, what’s status symbol out & everything in between…

Well, looks like being ‘online’ is officially no longer synonymous with being a social recluse. And truth be told, why should it be? You no longer need to be isolated from the outer world in order to virtually connect with people. A huge trend that’s taken over our millenium is the ‘virtual posessions’ trend. That’s right – your popularity today is directly correlated to how many friends you have on Facebook, followers on Twitter and Google Buzz, how many ‘likes’ your status gets, how many crops/animals you’ve been keeping alive on Farmville and of course, how many people you’ve beaten in Mafia Wars! So start clickin’ away to build up your friend base!

beach trends

Well ladies you can breathe a sigh of relief; it’s no longer considered cool for men to walk around on beaches looking like hobos. That’s right, the floppy, messy, baggy look has finally left the building and although it was cute for a while, we’re sort of glad aren’t we? Make sure your guy doesn’t spend this summer looking like he’s homeless. Remind him to exchange his baggy pocketed shorts for something more flat fronted that comes up to their knee caps. Flip flops are still acceptable but havin’ a pair of loafers handy won’t do him harm! Pair his shorts with a nice polo top to complete the look!

mobile rage

We’ve known it was coming for a while because of website leaks across the world, but the iPhone 4 is officially here. The successor to the popular Apple iPhone series; it is a complete redefinition of the previous software and design and is being hailed by Apple users everywhere as the best piece of technology on the market. With fans still reeling from the release of the iPad a couple of months ago, Apple is definitely the market leader in trends! The phone provides users access to a virtual book store, game centre, features a higher resolution screen and is a whopping 24 percent thinner than its predecessor iPhone 3GS. So go out and get one now folks! This one’s selling like hot cakes!

Waka Waka

Footballllllllllllllllllll! That’s right. The world cup may be over but the beat lives on! The FIFA World Cup was till recently the biggest thing going on and if you were not interested, well ... we’re appalled! Above all though, make sure you’ve got a copy of Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka (This time for Africa)’ playin’ all the time, it’s the catchiest song of the block and the unofficial anthem for the cup! The games are certainly over, but Shakira’s catchy tunes? They live. Go on, sing it... we know you want to! Waka Waka ey ey!

casual & cool

Spring/Summer 2010 catwalks were awash with models in... well, what can only be termed as ‘Bahama’s Wear’. Floppy sunhats, comically oversized sunglasses, flip flops and bright, parrot-like prints were favourites on the runway and looks like this trend is going to continue during the rest of the summer. It’s finally acceptable to go out like you’re dressed for a laid back beach party, when you’re only just stepping out to the shop around the corner! What does GLAM have to say about it? Well... we’re jumpin’ up and down in delight! Enjoy it while it lasts ladies. You know we will!

all in the game!

The next generation of the Xbox 360 is finally here; called simply the Xbox 360 250GB. Looks like they’re really advertising the extra space! It also boasts a lot more connectivity options such as five USB 2.0 ports and an AUX port for connecting accessories! There are also lots of other tiny updates that add to the whole Xbox experience. This new game console has already been released for sale in the US and is definitely coming soon to where you live! So get ready to get your game on girls!

Yummy Mummies!

Pregnant women everywhere can finally breathe a sigh of relief! They may not have to look like walking tents throughout the course of their pregnancy. There are some new outfits on the market that can really make the pregnancy look pop (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun!)! Empire Waist Dresses are always a classic, loosely synching around the mother’s waist to provide a silhouette while avoiding showing off too much belly. Pregnant women can now also fearlessly show off their bellies by dressing in slightly fitted clothes. It’s fashionable to show off the belly ladies! So don’t be afraid to wear clothes that accentuate the growing belly. Remember, being a mom is the hardest job ... take pride in it! And please, stop hiding behind your husband’s bagggy T-shirts; never a good look... !
