The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a multilateral financial institution that is a member of the IDB Group, has been promoting the economic development of the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1989. The IIC focuses mainly on small and medium-size enterprises, providing them with long-term financing to help them overcome business challenges, reformulate business strategies, and adopt new technologies so they can continue to drive development in the region.

Since it began operations, the IIC has approved more than US$3.58 billion in loans and equity investments benefiting private enterprises in the region. This financing has contributed to the development, expansion, and modernization of businesses and companies in key sectors such as agriculture and agribusiness, aquaculture and fisheries, chemicals and plastics, energy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, livestock and poultry, wood, pulp and paper, manufacturing, industrial processing zones, and textiles.

To date, this financing has benefited nearly one million SMEs, helped create thousands of jobs, generated foreign exchange and new employment opportunities, and improved the quality of life in local communities.
