health
hennai has many names and even nicknames attached to it. The most popular one being ‘Singara Chennai’; but soon, it will be, atleast unofficially, be christened ‘the spa city!’ Yes, you heard us right, we have the capability and capacity to become the spa city and no-one seems to be complaining this time round. Almost every month, a spa is being inaugurated with swish, splash and splutter! We did a quick round up of the spas in town, trying to figure out their specialities. Now, this new year take your pick from anything from the soothing Balinese massage to the downright strong and much needed foot reflexology!
Spa Influence With sleek interiors, Spa Influence is a chic boutique spa that offers several luxury treatments like a gold facial and gold body scrubs, apart from the usual mill of Balinese and Swedish massage treatments Specialty: Vichy Shower and Chroma Hydro Thermal Therapy The spa offers some exclusive treatments like the Vichy Shower – a treatment where large quantities of warm water are poured over the body to increase blood circulation, and the Chroma Hydro Thermal Therapy – a technique that saw its beginnings in Ancient Egypt, and uses coloured lights and a hot water bed to balance your body’s energies. Well, this one’s all about getting your ‘Chi’ right! Spa @ Courtyard by Marriott The spa at Courtyard by Marriott has on offer a variety of aromatherapy treatments, detoxifying Swedish massages and Ayurvedic massages.
Spa Time A good spa experience is not only about walking into a swanky spacious place and paying big bucks! It’s a wholesome experience and here are two important factors to keep in mind while choosing a spa. The Therapist A good therapist plays a vital role in making your spa experience a pleasant one. The therapist should be professional, courteous, hygienic and keep your preferences in mind while choosing products, applying pressure and even while deciding on the music to be played. They should know about the products, the treatments and be able to clarify your queries.
- Krithika Sukumar and Jyoti Agarwal
The Venue One of the best ways to ensure that the spa is hygienic and adheres to standards is to take a tour of the premise. Sheets, towels, napkins, wraps, and slippers should preferably be disposable ones; pedicure equipments, bowls, containers and hydrotherapy tubs should be sanitised. One should make sure health and safety standards are taken care of. All linens, restrooms, showers, lounges, lockers and other common areas should be completely clean.

Shall we p e o p l e . t r e n d s . e v e n t s
? If you are missing out on all the fun because you didn’t know how to make the right moves. Now is the time, waltz your way through namma Chennai!
O
ver the years, as Madras transcended into Chennai, so did its dance forms. Though the inherent Bharatanatyam remains strong and deeprooted - both as a cultural form and an identity - several other dance forms have been given shelter in this land of arts and culture, as they branched out from their respective motherlands. Big, bright bill boards of John Britto’s Dance Co. and Swingers can be seen sharing space today with the humble arch of the Kalakshetra Foundation in the dance arena of Chennai.
This Margazhi, as some of us proceed to immerse ourselves in the rich, traditional folds of several Bharatanatyam performances, a part of the population is ‘getting set to groove to the music’ this New Year’s eve. Jazz, jive, merengue, hip-hop, salsa, ballet, waltz, tango and many more forms of dance, that were unheard and unspoken of a decade back are now the trend. Several dance schools – big and small – across the
cities offer anything from crash courses to regular, long-term classes in one or many of these dance forms. While the Indian classical dance is viewed and pursued mostly as a very serious stream of learning, these international dance forms are followed to seek pleasure, bust stress, be a work-out session, stay fit, relax, socialise, develop passion, add a feather to one’s personality, create an identity or build a capability, or just for the joy of learning something new and different. As today’s movie industry demands a lot of fast and freestyle dancing, learning one of these (include ‘Bollywood Dancing’ too) can get you an easy ticket (humming ‘Ticket to ‘Bollyyywoood’). So, what’s rocking Chennai this season? Salsa, the couple dance, has become quite popular in the city. With a SpanishCaribbean origin, this dance form greatly appeals to a vast majority of the people here. The rhythmic and
suave movements of Salsa are a pleasure to watch and perform. Several established and upcoming dance schools in Chennai offer Salsa classes. Some of them include The Swingers, John Britto’s Dance Co., Aerollerz, Instituto Hispania and Russian Cultural Centre. Ballet, a formal performance dance of European origin is fast gaining momentum in the city. This highly technical and concert dance form is made easier for us by The Swingers, Aerollerz,
4
John Britto’s Dance Co., Flyerz, Hot Shoe Dance Company and Academy of Modern Dance and the School of Ballet & Contemporary dance. Jazz, which is rooted in African-American and traditional Caribbean and largely influenced by several other dance forms like ballet and hip-hop is yet another western dance form established in the city. The Spring Boots Academy of Dance, Raack Academy of Dance, John Britto’s Dance Co., The Swingers and the Academy of Modern Dance teach us to ‘jazz it up’ this New Year’s eve. And most of these schools also teach hip-hop dance - the dancing arm of the hip-hop cultural movement of New York, Jive - a form of swing dance that originated in the USA in the mid-1900s, Tango - the SpanishAfrican dance from Buenos Aires, and Waltz - the highly graceful European folk and ballroom dance that is performed in a closed position by the dancing couple. As we see, this whole group of international dances that most of us collectively call ‘western dance’ has taken over the Chennai-ites like a huge tidal wave. Inter-collegiate competitions and TV reality shows have made these half as well-known as our classical dance forms. From being a mere USP for a marriage resume, dance has rippled into the entertainment and recreation sector. Fitness experts are fusing dance movements with work-out moves to offer a more appealing work-out session. And thanks to the Indian film industry, a new dance form called ‘Bollywood’ dance has emerged in flying colours. Expats and Indians alike are rushing to the nearest centre to shake and groove like our lovely ladies on screen. And this scene is only likely to improve with growing exposure to international folklore and cultures. So what are you waiting for? Go on, shake a leg! - Shruti K M

Experience the W
hat if your table starts interacting with you? What if it can understand your touch and the things that you place on it? Well, this is no wild imagination. It is precisely what Microsoft Surface does.
and the resulting interaction is displayed using rear projection. The user can manipulate content and interact with the computer using natural touch and hand gestures, instead of a typical mouse and keyboard.
Microsoft Surface is a multi-touch interface capable ‘Surface computing’ device which provides a rich interactive experience between the physical world and virtual world. It plays out intuitively via people’s natural movements. The 360° interface allows several users to simultaneously interact with the system, definitely an experience never known before. Watch out as an ordinary tabletop turns into a vibrant, interactive surface. Surface is a 30-inch display in a table-like form which allows people to interact, just like in the real world. In essence, it’s a surface that comes to life for learning, sharing, creating, buying and much more.
Surface computing
Behind the surface Microsoft Surface uses cameras and image recognition in the infrared spectrum to identify diverse objects such as fingers, tagged items and shapes. This input is then processed by the computer
Surface computing lets you move beyond the traditional mouse-and-keyboard experience. It is a natural user interface that allows people to interact with digital content the same way we have interacted with everyday items such as photos, paintbrushes and music their entire life. Surface computing opens up a whole new category of products for users to interact with. Features that make surface special:
• Vision-based Interaction - The refined camera system of Surface can identify fingers, hands, paintbrushes, tagged objects and various other real-world items. It allows you to interact with the content through tap and gesture. • Multi-touch Contact - Surface computing identifies several points of contact simultaneously, not just from one finger,
! as with a typical touch screen, but with up to 52 points of contact simultaneously! Computing experience just got more social. • Multi-user Experience - The horizontal form factor makes it easy for several people to have a collaborative, face-toface computing experience. The 61 x 46 cm flat screen (76 cm diagonal) leaves plenty of room for several people to work together around a unit. • Object Recognition - Users can place physical objects on the surface to activate different types of digital responses, including the transfer of digital content. The unit can recognise physical objects via special tags or via shape recognition. Tagged object recognition is a particularly novel feature of Microsoft Surface. The tag is what lets Surface uniquely identify objects, helping the system tell the difference between two identical looking bottles of juice, for example. Microsoft Surface
How it started? In 2001, Stevie Bathiche of Microsoft hardware and Andy Wilson of Microsoft research began brainstorming concepts for an interactive table. In early 2003, the new consumer products group presented the idea to Bill Gates and within a month, the first prototype was born based on an IKEA table with a hole cut through its top. The evolution of Microsoft Surface had begun. As more applications were built, the team saw the value of the computer beyond simply gaming and began to favour those applications that took advantage of the unique ability of Surface to recognize physical object placed on the table. Since then, surface prototypes, functionality and applications were continuously refined with more than 85 prototypes being built for use by software and hardware developers and user researchers. Finally in 2007, the Surface team transitioned from prototyping ideas to building and preparing to sell the first multi-touch and mutli-user computer.

Hangover 2009 It is that time of the year when everybody gets nostalgic about what’s gone by, so we decided to ponder too, on why 2009 rocked and why 2010’s got to be bigger and better. Here’s to a happy year ahead! The Race is On! Running through, here we list the hot wheels that set the roads on fire in 2009.
Food for Life Let’s start with places that gobbled up recession and gave us reasons to snack happily. ID –Mamma’s kitchen now has a new competitor@ Satyam. Idlies, dosas or pongal, ID has got the best of them all. McDonalds – Yes, the clown has finally come to Chennai (Ascendas, Anna Nagar and Ampa Mall). If you haven’t tried their burgers yet, buddy, you sure are missing something! Mocha Mojo – With swanky looks and great food (By the way, their one pan meals are recessionfriendly), Mocha spins its magic in Adyar this time. Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory – Just when you thought you have had enough of chocolates, one look at Sandy’s at RA Puram is sure to make you go on a chocolate binge. If anything went wrong last year, just wash it down with their Happy Jack! Kokum – Yummy vazhaipoo vadas, the tangy Goan prawn balchao or those dazzling banana dosas, there are just too many reasons just why you would love this one @ MRC Nagar. Kokum quickly made its way to the top with its deliciously diverse South Indian fare.

10. IDBI Bank: The Industrial Development Bank of India wanted to show the people that they are not for just the businessmen and industrialists but also for general public. Their ad showcased a boy taking shelter under an elephant during a downpour with a tagline, ‘not just for big boys’. Sure thing. 9. Nippon Paints: The Japanese paint giant gave us a great ad with cute little paint creatures jumping and dissolving themselves on the walls to give a colorful surrounding. Appealing background jingle helped the commercial become popular. 8. Center Fresh: Many ads came marketing the Center Fresh chewing gum but one that was funny and memorable will definitely be the dancing lions concept. Animation was brilliant, making us wonder why our advertisements have superior quality graphics while our films suffer. 7. Airtel DTH TV: Airtel has managed to give great commercials with relationships as their concepts (not as high as you see in films or serials, but of light dosage). Saif Ali Khan identifies his childhood sweetheart when he saw the unique pendant on TV, which has Airtel DTH service and hence the clarity, but ends up meeting Kareena. The other girl was also good, right? 6. Lux: The beauty soap showed the real life couple Abhishek Bachan and Aishwarya Rai in a whole new light with a simple concept that clicked. Backed with beautiful background score, the ad was an instant hit. 5. IDEA: IDEA cellular launched the concept of ‘Walk and Talk’ with Abhishek Bachan in the lead, followed by Shriya and Siddarth making the people who talk to walk. IDEA was also smart to post warnings not to use mobiles when crossing the road. ‘What an idea Sirji!’. 4. Dairy Milk Shots: Giving the street vendor both the crook’s loot and the Government’s prize money may be more than generous, but what made the ad popular were the laddoo vocals. Two laddoos for two rupees was as sweet as the Shots. 3. Surf Excel: Remember Rosie Madam? The commercial succeeded because of its theme and the way it was filmed, of a student trying to make his teacher overcome the demise of her dog. Last heard there has been some controversy over the ad’s concept. 2. Tata Docomo: Do Do Do Mo Mo Mo Co Co Co Do Co Mo Mo Mo Do Co Mo. Heard it anywhere recently? Everywhere. That’s how popular the ad and its catchy BGM have become. Pay per second plan became as popular as the ads, with competitors going the same way. Do Co Mo Mo Mo Do Co Mo Mo Mo Do Co Mo Mo Mo.
1. Vodafone: The marketing team at Vodafone is known for their fresh and different concepts. So it was no surprise when they came up with the Zoozoos. But even they would not have dreamed this big a hit. These white egg-heads, with their distinctive language and body language, ruled the ad slots in every channel. Zoozoos have become so popular, that Vodafone released merchandise based on them.

It Rocks! I
t might look like just any other bar, but as you get comfortable in your plush seating and observe, you’ll realise it’s not just another restaurant you’ve entered - but a fine dining experience called ‘On The Rocks’. Located pretty much in the heart of Chennai, Sheraton Park’s nine month old infant takes your palate experience to an altogether different experience. The double floored restaurant has a humble 34 seater dining place overlooking a live kitchen on top and a cozy relaxing lounge area at the first level. For people who enjoy having their food in absolute style and, like being part of it rather than just ‘waiting’ to be served, On The Rocks offers a unique sensation in more ways than one. Gentle, soothing music of a live violinist, a wine library-where diners can taste the wine they would like to order, a brand new menu every fortnight that keeps you wanting for more and the most enthralling partcooking your own meal. That’s right, you have the option to don the chef’s hat and flip the fresh, unmarinated chicken, lamb, prawns and fish which are procured either locally, from Nellore or those exclusively imported from Europe, France, Brazil and Australia - making it a complete global cuisine!
Grilled Chicken and Cherry Tomatoes in barbeque sauce and Mustard Fish in Lemon Sauceaesthetically presented in a spoonplate kick started our European dining journey. For the vegetarians Broccoli and Bell Pepper in Pesto Sauce is a not to be missed. Also, ‘Short-Eats’ which complement the taste of your choice of drink is an exclusive and great idea compiled by Chef Nagpal, who independently manages On The Rocks.
Crushed Pepper roasted Vegetables. Along with some Spanish wine and we truly could not have asked for more.
Some tender crab in crispy wonton sheets with a hint of ginger and aioli sauce along with some fresh cilantro rolls with mushroom and coriander pâté made for some excellent starters. The main course was served to us “on the rocks” quite literary. One can choose from five varieties of meat, ranging from giant prawns to lamb. We stuck to the chef’s specialturkey and good old chicken. The meat served on a small slab of lava rock heated to 400 C is perfectly raw and shows no signs of marination. But when accompanied with one of the twenty sauces to choose from, it sure does excite your taste buds. The vegetarians need not feel left out as the live kitchen caters to your tastes and needs. We suggest Soya and Mustard Glazed Grilled Cottage Cheese with lemon and
For dessert we recommend you give the regular chocolate a miss and opt for some authentic European Cheesecakes- with the mango and strawberry sauce which made an interesting combination. A double thumbs up to the delectable food which would definitely get you to re-visit the restaurant. All though the food doesn’t seem to have too many many spices, the flavours are intact and gives you a wholesome meal. When asked, Chef and Manager Nikhil Nagpal replied

Odds, Evens & Squares Combining ingredients which vary in taste is becoming quite popular these days. Read on to know more about the ‘odd couple’.
These retro foods are making a slow comeback and most restaurants are concocting ‘odd’ ingredients and serving up an interesting fare. You may not be able to try all these additions and subtractions at home, but here are a few simple combinations to kick start the home cooks, ‘retro food course’. Do check it out, it’ll change your whole and (c)rusty perspective on cooking! Coffee & Salt This sounds really salty! But a pinch (just a tiny weeny pinch) is believed to heighten the flavour of your coffee. It is common to add salt to most desserts , including your puddings and even in your pies, so adding it to coffee might bring in
that tangy difference. Chillies & Chocolates A very famous combination in South America where ‘chili bake-offs’ are common. Chocolates apparently deepen the flavour of the chili and peppers. So, the next time you make yourself a mug of hot chocolate, add a few chillies. Popcorn & Milk This combination doesn’t sound too weird, but it is mushy. Mix hot, buttered, salted popcorn in a glass of cold milk (you’ll be surprised at how much you can cram into a bowl!). Instead of your cereal, you’ll be eating popped cereal!
of medicine. But it seems to have worked well in kitchens and is tried across the country at least once! Jelly & Bread
This is not unheard off, but it is a combination people rarely try. It’s a hit with kids, not for the taste, but for mixing two of their easy to snack items together! It’s neither gooey nor crunchy; the taste of the jelly and the bread are intact, yet, it’s simply... weird.

plate of masala dosa and coconut chutney is a fast selling dish. But, have you considered serving the same dosa with peanut butter or apricot jam? Welcome to the world of ‘retro foods’ – the place where anything and everything, the odds and evens, are combined to form one very unique dish. About 100 years ago, retro foods were very much a part of life. Women folk would mix and match ingredients, serve up a concoction, some that worked and others which were forcibly swallowed down. It was along this way that they learned from their mistakes and that we landed up with the likes of channa & bhattura or even curd rice & pickles.

Warranty and Guarantee W
hen we buy a product say for example a digital wall clock or any household durable item, a warranty card duly stamped with date and signed by the seller will be given along with the bill. It will run like this:
k n o w . s p e a k . a c t
“ Congrats on becoming a user of our product. We guarantee that all our products are tested and come with a one year warranty against manufacturing defects. “The manufacturer warrants the products to be free from defects in workmanship and material under normal use and service conditions for a period of one (1) year after the original date of purchase. This warranty does not cover damage to the product resulting from accident, misuse, abuse, or improper handling and/or care. …. In addition, this warranty does not warrant the length of service of a battery since the effective life of a battery is primarily determined by the usage patterns and the quality of care given over a battery’s lifetime. This warranty extends only to the original purchaser. Warranty is void if the warranty sticker has been removed or if any internal component has been altered or modified. The manufacturer’s obligation under this warranty is limited to, at our option, the replacement or repair of the product under warranty. ………” Some companies even word it like this:
If for any reason you are not satisfied with the product, you may return it within ….. days and get a replacement……your satisfaction is our priority..”. What’s a Guarantee & Warranty? Now many have wondered (indeed a genuine doubt) about the use and meaning
of the two words, ‘Guarantee’ and Warranty’. One legal interpretation is that a guarantee is given in cases when a product malfunctions the manufacturer will replace the whole product; whereas in a warranty, the product will be set right if it develops any defect within a particular period of time. Guarantee is an assurance for the performance and warranty is an undertaking for setting right the defective functioning, of course within the period indicated. A guarantee can be called a contract legally binding the supplier and under which the consumer has the right to claim replacement of the item. The procedure to make the claim by a consumer is given along with the service centres list. A warranty can run alongside a guarantee. The law says that a warranty is a stipulation collateral to the main purpose of the contract, the breach of which gives rise to a claim for damages but not to a right to reject the goods and treat the contract as repudiated. Whether a stipulation in a contract of sale is a condition or a warranty depends in each case on the wording and terms of the contract. “A stipulation may be a condition, though called a warranty in the contract. Where there is a breach of warranty by the seller, or where the buyer elects or is compelled to treat any breach of a condition on the part of the seller as a breach of warranty, the buyer is not by reason only of such breach of warranty entitled to reject the goods; but he may(a) set up against the seller the breach of warranty in diminution or extinction of the price
(b) sue the seller for damages for breach of warranty”. The Consumer Protection Act (CP Act)includes under unfair trade practices the following: a) making a false or misleading representation concerning the need for, or the usefulness of any goods or services b. ) giving to the public any warranty or guarantee of the performance, efficacy or length of life of a product or of any goods that is not based on an adequate or proper test thereof.. The CP Act further says that if a warranty or guarantee is based on adequate or proper test, the burden of proof shall lie on the person raising such defence. Therefore, any aggrieved consumer can complain to the consumer forum in his area if the guarantee or warranty given is not honoured or does not help him to get the problem set right by the manufacturer or service provider.
The main points to remember are: Do not throw away the bill, manuals and warranty / guarantee card that come along with the product you buy. All is fine as long as the product works well, but when a problem crops up, the consumer has to show the necessary records when he takes up a complaint. In some cases, extended warranty is offered. If a problem arises within the warranty period, a complaint is to be lodged with the authorised service centre. Their service personnel who look into the complaint are supposed to give a job sheet and a service report after repair. Keep these papers in a file as they may be needed when the problem recurs . - Correspondent

Volvo is recalling 136,100 vehicles from the 2001 to 2005 model years, including almost every vehicle in its lineup from those years. Life is eetle. You can’t help but admire it. You can’t deny but desire it. As Volkswagen rightfully portrays, ‘First you won’t be able to take your eyes off it. Then your hands’. The New Beetle, the car that has the longest running and most produced automobile to its credit, is in India and has already started selling like hot cakes off the rack. The automobile giant Volkswagen started its journey to stardom with this car. Beetle was designed on the request of Adolf Hitler, who required a people’s car for the citizens of the Third Reich. So what is so special about the Beetle that had given the car its cult status? Well the answer is its simplicity in the design, the build quality, the reliability and its efficiency. It has been a car that has it all. Its sales rocketed during 1960s and there was no stopping this bug to achieve honours that no other car dreamed of. So after about 70 years from its inception, the New Beetle is ready to roll in Indian roads. Sharing the exterior appearance with its predecessor, the New Beetle is completely different inside the hood. Unlike the rear mounted engine and rear wheel drive in the old Beetle, the new one has its engine in the front and a front wheel drive. The exterior is classy or should I say “buggy”? Sloping headlamps and tail lights, two – door entry, large alloy wheels make the
Beetle all the more adorable. The curves and corners of the Beetle are well rounded and complete. A new rival to the size zeroes? Definitely. Coming in, the design and build quality is evident. The seats provide utmost comfort with leather upholstery giving it the edge of style. Height adjustable driver seat and rake adjustment of the steering wheel gives you that exact driving position for the absolute driving experience. And the instrument cluster is there to provide you with all the necessary information with cool blue illumination. Above the rear view mirror you have a dual display that flaunts the time and outside temperature. Storage boxes and compartments surround the interiors conveniently giving you the space to stock up. And yes, there is also the renowned flower vase.
Volkswagen has launched the Beetle with only one variant, a powerful one at that, 2.0L Petrol. It is one small car that surely packs more power than what meets the eye. The 1984cc 4-cylinder petrol engine pumps out a maximum power 116 PS at 5400 rpm and a maximum torque of 172 Nm at 3200 rpm. The efficient engine allows you to scale high speeds without any superfluous vibration. And it’s as easy to maneuver through the busy roads of the urbane environment. The Beetle comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission that is seamless and well supported by the exceptional suspension endowing you with jerk-free smooth ride. The inbuilt MP3 compatible music player gives you non-stop music with Aux-in features for plugging your
USBs, music pods and mobiles. Safety features include four airbags, disc brakes, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme). The materials used in Beetle are top notch with international standard that exudes excellent workmanship. The New Beetle is available in 6 chic colours. Go fancy with Satin Red, Sunflower Yellow or Laser Blue. Or if you want a bold statement, choose from Solid Black, Candy White or Reflex Silver.

The wheel of time Now that we have reused the tube, why not give life to an old recycled aluminum bike wheel. In the given picture, they have changed one into a clock. Yes, you heard it right! Imagine gifting one to a bike-crazy friend of yours or the looks it might garner if placed in your hall. People sure do know how to make fashion out of nothing.
That’s news! Now that the news is old, do you burn the messenger. Next time, you think about throwing those old newspapers or burning them out, do a favour to Mother Earth by creating a cool paper bag instead. You stay green and it can make quite an impression when made the right way!
A message in a bottle Those green tinted empty glass bottles that make their way to dustbins in every home have been given a fresh lease of life. Just check this design from www.recycledbottleworks.com and create your own unique lamp shade.
Pretty tube? We saw this cool vase in www.teteknecht.com. We liked the idea of how they turned an old motorbike tire into a centre piece. All it needs is a bit of imagination to transform an eyesore into a pretty little vase or necklace. Are you in for a change?
When you can create something as beautiful as these and help our earth in the process, it sure is worth a try. The next time you see a half-broken glass bottle or that ancient plastic tube, you know just what to do. Don’t you?

All izz well S
econd day and first show in the morning, I should say the crowd in the theatre was simply maddening, and I sat there contemplating the movie when the rest of the hall roared with applause. Yes, a movie worth watching once and even twice. An unimpaired adaptation by able Rajkumar Hirani, the movie has a typical cocktail of messages (jaadu ki jhapi and gandhigiri) for the audience along with a fabulous entertainment quotient. ‘3 idiots’ is simply a fun-filled entertainer making you think even as you laugh your way through the movie. With portions of it borrowed from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, the script churned out the most appropriate parts of the book and of course some slapstick humour woven with some emotional moments and the core message of the movie
was added on to make it complete Hirani-giri. Characterisation was however similar to that in the book and the three idiots – Ranchoddas Shaymaldas Chajaad a.k.a Rancho (Amir Khan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), Farhan (R. Madhavan) flawlessly matched the protagonists and did some impeccable work. Viru Sahastrabuddhev alias Virus (Boman Irani) needless to say, gave the best of his performances; thanks to his work in Munna Bhai and his doctor daughter Pia (Kareen Kapoor) who falls in love with Rancho but has to face this whole war sequence at home with her father. Each of these actors pulled off a great show. From this ensemble, Boman wins hands down with a brilliant performance as an eccentric prof who has a protruding jaw, random thought patterns and the funniest of all; lisped speech. At no point in the movie, he comes out of the shoes of the vicious virus. The chemistry of the lead actors on screen was perfect and did a good job in keeping the audience on the edge of their seats, bursting out laughing very often. The dialogues were also crafted to
be witty and the audience continued to use these dialogues even after the movie.

It takes on from there and at right places it flashes back and the audience cannot help but simply laugh till they are off their seats. From there on it went through some extremely hilarious instances before the hero and heroine get together, as in a classic Hindi masala flick. The plot is well packed with many other ingredients and has a take on many serious issues like pressure in engineering colleges, student suicide etc. However, at no time during the movie, you will feel the brunt of these rather serious issues.
Film : 3 Idiots Starring : Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani Director : Rajkumar Hirani Music : Shantanu Moitra
Shantanu Moitra’s music did the rest of the job. The music complemented the script well doing its job of keeping the audience in tune to the action on screen. The song sequences also successfully got across, and every other person is seen humming the tune of these amazing songs. On the whole, this flick has been a treat and there could no better way to end a year than with such a memorable and enjoyable movie.
