Exclusively Yours! Let’s take a walk through the gateway to elite specialties… peeding down the Nungambakkam High, King Khan is easily discerned, thanks to the glam quotient attached to it; the flashy lights and the maddening crowd. People seldom notice the subtle street that surrounds this area brimming with enthused activity and sizzle. I would not blame you if you never noticed the rather humble street near to the roaring KNK (Khader Nawaz Khan). Rutland Gate, very much a fragment of this bustling area in Chennai, I must say, perhaps it lost out on some of that razzledazzle, but nevertheless is a street worth exploring, with niche stores, catering to the crème of the crowd. Are you curious now? Then be certain to slow down and take a detour into Rutland Gate, a road less travelled by, to explore a part of Chennai that never can be discovered elsewhere. With retail outlets, rather few and far between, Rutland Gate is a gateway to many more avenues for a person with deep pockets. More than outlets for tangible product shopping, there are better opportunities to indulge in invaluable and priceless services. One tip coming your way, stroll down this street, because the palatial and marvelously done houses on your way, simply steal your sight and leave you with an everlasting awe. As you walk down this shady and cozy street, the first thing you have got to inevitably see is the famous and divine Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory. Desserts made with concoctions of cream, butter, nuts, ice-cream and yes, loads and loads of chocolate and served in an eccentric and unconventional manner can be no less tempting. For those who get high on chocolate, this is the place you need to directly head with not much ado. With equally attractive ambience and congenial atmosphere, your experience will certainly be royal. But, be prepared to spend here like in no other dessert pub in the city; but also prepare yourself to indulge in the best chocolate desserts of your life. I must confess the mousse I had at Sandy’s has been the finest I have had in 21 years. As it is open through the day, from about 8 in the morning till about 11 at night, you can take a call of either stepping in before the journey begins or ending it on an excel-
lent note. The next big thing you notice on this road is the Good Earth store. A store that can help you revamp and recreate your living space. To say that the Good Earth Store is the choicest decision is an understatement. Being a store that encourages customers to plunge into luxury and splendour, the Good Earth store has equally splendid collection which reflects the most ideal blend of opulence, style, aesthetics and Indian-ness. Transform the space around you to radiate class with strong and grounded Indian designs with a tinge of a contemporary feel. Needless to say with such celebration of style and extravagance comes a heavy price to pay. So if you are game for it,
this is the place you have got to barge into. Along the same lines and the same road, there is another irresistible store, Tulsi Arterior. This store is a true symbol of antiquity and class. You could probably walk in and have a look at the most dramatic

With the most unimaginable collection in a sprawling bungalow, this store leaves you with quite a change of plans. I must say this place is pretty affordable Good Ea rth Show and reasonable for the kind of room exquisiteness they portray.

Rutland Gate has a lot in store for you. All you have to do is take some time off and walk through it. As you walk through, you will find other interesting diversions to take as well, but you have got to tread this road to explore it completely; of course you will eventually enjoy it and have something to take back from it. Summer is Home! S

ummer in Chennai is becoming hotter day by day. This means not only a change in weather , but also in one’s mood. There’s a bounce in our step as the days grow warmer . This ‘light’ feeling shall increase when you let your surroundings, your home, and your place reflect the season .. This week, let’s choose to brighten our space and our lives. Clean and clear The first step to lightening your space is attained by ‘lightening your load’. Simply de-clutter your home! A clear and clean space will lighten all aspects of your life. Your space will not only feel to be cleaner, it will also take less effort in terms of cleaning and it will give you a feeling of leading an organised life. Your mind will feel more at ease and you will have an overview of all that is yours. All you see, without searching, is all you own! Lightness will be yours. Colour codes Once the clutter is removed, you can choose to bring in different
accessories, in brighter colours. Choosing light shades of the colours you most prefer, creates a feeling of space. This need not have to be a time-consuming activity or a costly exercise. Be creative and use techniques and skills you have, but had forgotten about; such as sewing new cushions and sofa-throws or painting pictures and sketching. Well, if you have really forgotten your hidden talents, use other aids to support your creativity, such as stencils and patterns. Give old accessories a new lease of life, with a lick of paint or some bright fabric. Also add glass vases, containing your personal favourite aspects of the outdoor summer life, that will blend well with the new look you are creating. Simply fill them with seashells, sands, dried flowers or coloured stones. If you are feeling adventurous, then take this opportunity to give the walls a fresh coat of paint. If this is too time-consuming, then choose to paint just one wall and make that wall extra special by hanging up your new creations, such as framed fabrics or enlarged poetry from which you can get inspiration, at every glance. Let there be light You can rearrange furniture (if your space allows) in such a manner that the windows let light flow into the room, as much as pos-
sible. Let the windows be the central element in the room. You will not only brighten up your space , but your spirits as well. The scent of nature A scent of something fresh in the air, no matter how subtle, is something many homes lack, in the summer months. So indulge in fresh flowers, and give the air in your home a distinct scent, now that you get fragrant flowers. They not only make the space smell fresh but also put an instant smile on your face. Enjoy what nature offers and spread the aroma of the outdoor throughout your home. If you are extra keen on burning incense, change the scent you were using previously and choose one that is associated with this time of year, something light, sweet and fresh. All is yours Lightening your place shouldn’t be seen as a chore. Instead it should be a refreshing way of expressing yourself and your own personal style. If there are colours that make you feel light, use them! And yes, whatever inspiration you get outdoor is most welcome. Bring in a little ‘u’ (unique) touch to your home.
promise this. Whatever you learn as you tackle this project is guaranteed to stimulate your mood. Who knows what talents may come to the surface! Don’t hesitate to experiment fearing that your choice may go wrong, ineffective or may even go unnoticed. For soon, you will discover that the small adjustments can make a big difference and even a little appreciation of what you have created, will be your reward. So enjoy and make the best use of this beautiful season, both inside and outside home. - Jayanthi Somasundaram

It’s a Hot one! D
espite the onset of the hot summer months, there seems to be no such thing as a bad day for sizzlers. A few restaurants in the city where sizzlers are hot on their menu… New Yorker Situated on the bustling Nungambakkam High road, New Yorker offers some tasty sizzlers; and their options reflect their multi-cuisine menu. They offer Lebanese sizzlers with a falafel, Mexican sizzler with fajita, rice and curry, and paneer sizzlers, all accompanied with vegetables and sauces. The sizzlers here are not the restaurant’s best offering, but are definitely worth a try and make for a sumptuous meal. Meal for two: about Rs 550
Cream centre This vegetarian restaurant offers a tidy lot of Indian influenced sizzlers. Most of their sizzlers are served over a hot bed of rice or noodles, a jacket potato and vegetables. Their Indian sizzlers include the vegetarian satellite sizzler served with a thick black-pepper garlic sauce and a falafel culet, the paneer sizzler and the Indian sizzler served with jeera rice and a samosa.
They also offer a Mexican sizzler with paneer, nachos and tortillas, and an Italian sizzler with pasta in a creamy cheese sauce with mushrooms. Cream centre is a good option for vegetarian sizzlers. Meal for two: about Rs 600
Tangerine The sizzlers at Tangerine have gathered favour among many foodies in the city. They serve beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian sizzlers, all topped with either a delicate flavoured tomato sauce, or a peppery white sauce; and accompanied with vegetables and rice. The sizzlers here somehow manage to come in just the right quantities and will leave you satisfied without feeling like you are bursting at the seams. The sizzlers at Tangerine are definitely among the best in the city. Meal for two: might add up to Rs 450 at Tangerine
Kobe The sizzler brand from Mumbai, recently made an entry into the city with a rather compact outlet on Khader Nawaz Khan road. They offers a wide selection of meat and vegetarian sizzlers – like the lamb and beef shashlik sizzlers served with a generous helping of sautéed vegetables, fries and meat; and vegetarian satellite sizzler served with herbed rice. The sizzlers here are quite yummy, but might disappoint if you walk in with sky-high expectations of the brand.
Footnote Most of the above mentioned places serve sizzling brownie with cold ice cream, and topped with chocolate sauce! A decidedly sinful option to end your meal. So, what are you waiting for? Sizzle your way through this summer.
Meal for two: will work out to about Rs 700.
Holy smoke Another new sizzler joint in town, Holy Smoke, in Ispahani Centre, serves sizzlers on a ‘rock’, quite literally. The sizzlers here are served atop hot rock, and accompanied by small helpings of sautéed vegetables and gravy. Apart from the popular rounds of vegetarian and non-vegetarian sizzlers, their menu houses some rather interesting options – like the Madras curry sizzlers – a dosa, fried idlis and chicken curry served with rice and vegetables. Meal for two: The sizzlers are priced at about Rs 350 each.

Normally summer is a time when the layers of wool blended clothing come off, but Chennai’s weather pushes our geography lessons ab the four seasons into the oblivion. Here is the mos utilitarian summer fashion surviv guide for the city, so read on. Colour decoder
Yes, yes, we do get that the ‘wi ter’ in Chennai has been gloom cold, dark and dull, but now the sun glows fiercely on the city. S push all those greys, charcoals, navy blues and blacks to the ba of your wardrobe. While the colour palette for summer hasn been too bright for a couple of years (we blame the economic recession) it is still brighter th 2009’s colour scheme. Be FAB Fabric is another thing that the city dwellers don’t have to worry too much about. As always, cotton rules the roost during summer! This time around there is a definite lean towards cotton blends that are wrinkle and maintenance-free. This apart, chiffon, georgette and light silk crepes make a huge come back. These flowy fabrics again appear to be whimsical yet sophisticated. They work towards lending the richness that humble cotton cannot.

For Her: The chiffons and georgettes are especially for women! Be it a sari or a dress; make sure you buy enough of these versatile fabrics. Go in for bold peppy prints and don’t just stick to colour blocking! Try silky crepe dresses or saris that are bejewelled with stones and sequins for the evenings or occasion. For Him: Stick to cottons and cotton blends. The rugged cowboy look is back with wee bit of modifications. Look for American like Wrangler and Lee for checked shirts. Beachy Hawaiian shirts are also in this season, so don’t shy away from prints! The hems and the lines

For Him: The zesty yellow, light turquoise and mellow lime green are ideal for men too. These combine with whites, shades of teal, stormy greys, sand and Chinese lacquer colours. All in all, it’s a season to mix strong earthy shades with bright, perky ones!
Surely, it is the time for hemlines to rise, for sleeves to get shorter or even disappear! The lines and cuts for this season again draw classic inspirations. It is time for a cute tomboy look for the girls and a rugged yet gentlemanly look for the guys. For Her: Apart from the classic saris and cute dresses, women can also borrow bits for their wardrobe from
their men. Boyfriend shorts and blazers are big this season. Opt for dresses with bows and lots of junk or real jewellery. Even if you go for a long dress, make sure the dress has high split to show off your legs. Keep the sari blouses simple sans the windows and doors! A low back one with short sleeves, or sleeveless will add sophistication. Leggings are still big this season, so invest in more full and three-fourth leggings. Save metallic shades for the night-outs and evening dates. For Him: Go in for more checks this season. Roll on your sleeves! Double breasted suits have made a big come back this season, but they are sleeker than in the past. Three-piece suits have made a come back too! Waistcoats are hot this summer. Ditch the flat-front pants and go in for tailored pleats that are more comfy and guarantee more breathing and moving space. Rip them
you could try to repair your jeans using denim patched ripped from another pair. Sigh, luckily ripped and patchwork jeans are in fashion at the same time! Peek-A-Boo! This one is purely for the women. See-through, sheer fabrics and lace are smoking hot this season to help you create a smoking hot look! So even if you are worried about rising hemlines, you can still cover your legs with sheer stockings. Or if you are weary about the batwings in your upper arms, you can use sheer or lace sleeves on your blouses and dresses! So lather on the sunscreen, bring out bugs eye gogs, and do up your wardrobe with our style decoder. Shine back at the sun by letting your inner Gods and Goddesses shine through! - Swetha P Venkatramani
This one is common for both men and women. Do not throw your old, worn out denims ; instead wear them
out more! Rip them if need be, since ripped jeans of the 80s and early 90s are finally back to get their revenge. This time it is not just ripped, it is pretty much shredded! So after you have done with the ripping and shredding,
Celeb Inspiration! - Trisha’s wardrobe in ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya’ is definitely great for Spring/ Summer 2010 for its sheer simplicity and sense! - Mumtaz’s individual style and clothes are worth keeping your eyes on to get the flirty, feminine look
ook for men is ‘Rugged Gentlemen.’ Try looking Jay-Z for the gangster, yet serious businessman look! Or take a cue from Jude Law for the boyish, man charm. - On a more national and local note, men can also draw inspiration for the off-screen looks of Hrithik Roshan and Surya, they are normally spot-on with fashion trends!

Light Up the ambiance Switch on the art of lighting.
P
lay of light has a great impact in architecture and interior design. Light has become an integral part to brighten up the interiors. Technology advancement has allowed lighting design to create a unique touch in architecture and interior. Considering its function, light can be divided into several types, ambient, accent and decorative lighting. Mainly in interiors, the use of lighting has become more substantial and innovative. One of the most overlooked elements of interior design is lighting. It is also here that there is a great scope to make an impact. Lighting can be peaceful and comfortable, romantic and intimate, or cheerful and festive. Here we give some tips for each room to set the mood. Living room With most of the activities in the house taking place in the living room, the focus should be on making it more expressive than the other rooms. The living room is the heart of your home and light it well to make it inviting. Light fittings should be set for all occasions, and it should be possible to use them at any chosen brightness and intensity according to the needs of the moment. The main lighting should be slightly dimmer than the required level and can be supplemented with other light points, bit brighter, at complementing positions. Use soft coloured bulbs in this kind of fitting to enhance your colour scheme. Well directed at a particular feature, spotlights can add a real sense of style and elegance. Plan your lighting in your living room that allows you to control the mood changes. Dining room Lighting in the dining room must make eating and conversation relaxing. It must complement the furniture, table settings and the food. Lastly, it needs to be bright enough for practical purposes. Your guests should be able to see the food you are serving. With varied lighting

controlled by dimmers, you can create a relaxed elegance that will set the mood for any dinner party. And for that candlelight dinner set-up, the flameless candles add great ambience. They operate with flickering LED bulbs and batteries. Even from a few feet away, they look like real candles. Kitchen Bring out the long-forgotten shape and beauty of kitchen cabinets with cove lighting, which can add a warm, accenting glow. Replace solid cabinets’ fronts with glass and add disk lighting to create a new, more inviting look that’s more like furniture. Lowvoltage lighting lets you create a contemporary, retro or elegant look. Install pendants over tables and island counters for dramatic effect or more direct lighting. Incorporating
pendant lighting over long counter areas lets you create an entirely new look and focal point. Halogen lighting makes the most of your food. The natural, white light really makes food look more colourful and appetising. Bedroom Relaxation, peace, romance, make-up, dressing, or bedtime reading – bedroom is the place for a multitude activities that require a subtle combination of lighting. There is a role for lighting in here also. Low pressure mercury discharge lamps, soft dim-lit bedside lamps and neatly aligned bulbs on the walls add to the perfect atmosphere. Bathroom Bathrooms have to be clean, fresh and
bright at dawn and relaxed, quiet and intimate at dusk. The lighting in the bathrooms needs to create a relaxed ambiance. Go for bright, fresh lamps that give out clean feel. Halls, stairs and corridor It is in these places that
to improve your space. Go for solar powered lights to save up on your electricity bills. Opt for lighting fixtures that use insect repellent bulbs. Lighting fixtures that use mosquito repellent bulbs are also a great idea if you want to add ambiance lighting to your backyard. Options for lighting each room are as varied as the colours of paint. Each choice sets a different mood, casts a distinct shadow and emits a certain glow. If you’re highlighting a piece of artwork, lighting a bathroom mirror, or shedding light on your favou-
most of the accidents occur and lighting here necessitates a special attention. Lighting in these places tends to be used for long periods. Hence energy-savers can be used wherever possible. Lighting the pictures and tapestries along the wall is more effective than overall lighting. A bright pool of light on the floor at the end of a corridor or hallway will have a welcoming effect, as the eye is naturally drawn to brighter areas. To ensure that every step is clearly illuminated, stairs require good, even lighting and they should be brighter than the hallway. Decorative lights and energy-savers are a wise choice. Backyard Having a backyard is fun. It allows for parties, big and small. It allows you and your children to play in the backyard, in the privacy of your own home. When night falls and you want to be outdoors in the summertime, consider adding lighting
rite novel, light can add to the functionality and beauty of every room. Now switch them on.

S
olar energy is one of the cleanest, limitless and boundless forms of renewable energy. In the past , efficiency, technology and cost issues were deterrents to exploiting this bountiful energy . But the advancement in technology has helped us move to an era where the benefits of solar application have outweighed the need for dependence on fossil fuels. There are many practical solar devices available in the market, specifically designed for home or personal use. Listed below are a few of these great applications and devices that will help you achieve eco-efficiency. Power play
Pump it up Get rid of your old generators that cough up tonnes of smoke while pumping water and replace them with solar water pumping systems. These systems are safe,
Heat it right! This is the best way to get yourself hot water and not worry about the damage that you might have caused to the environment for it. Solar water heaters are useful in the long run as it helps you to cut your electricity bills and cushions you from any price rise in electricity. Solar water heaters use the sun to heat either the water or a heat-transfer fluid in collectors mounted on the roof. They are then stored in conventional water tanks. The solar water heaters are operational in any climate but it is imperative that the roof is not shaded and the heaters are placed on the south facing area of your home. Another benefit of solar water heater is that it
can be used to heat outdoor or indoor swimming pools. Lead, kindly light Solar lanterns are useful as they are simple, portable and maintenance-free devices. They can be used during power cuts or for outdoor lighting and trekking. The solar lanterns work on three main components- the photovoltaic panel, the storage battery and the lamp. These lanterns work for about 3 - 5 hours depending upon the lantern’s performance. More lights Solar lighting kits are ideal for home gardens, sheds, workshops, garages etc. They are simple to install and the lights are bright and long lasting. These kits can be powered in any weather conditions and can be operated within an hour. Solar security lighting is also available to provide one with an efficient and easy movement activated security lighting. Let’s charge! This is one of the most useful inventions till date in the field of solar energy. Disposable batteries are hazardous to the environment and human beings. Since many appliances in our day-to-day life require the use of battery, normal batteries were considered almost indispensable. But not anymore! The solar battery chargers are not only environment friendly, but do not require traditional electricity to recharge the batteries and also allow the batteries to be re-

Solar panels are a useful way to generate electricity that can be used to power an average home. These panels use photovoltaic cells to capture sun’s energy and turn it into electricity. These cells are usually made of silicon alloys. There are solar panels being developed to achieve 80 percent efficiency in converting solar energy into electricity. Another benefit of such a method of generating electricity is it can serve as a backup source in locations plagued by frequent power cuts that damage home appliances.
easy to install, require minimum maintenance, cut the need for fossil fuels and produce zero air pollution. Besides pumping water from underground, it can also be used for other applications such as water circulation, sprinkler systems and water transfer.
Bike around This one’s sure to keep all the young guns zipping around happily. There is a solar powered bike called the ‘Solartrike’ that can travel at a speed of about 25 – 30 kilo metres per hour and at a distance of about 16 km per charge. It consists of either a 200 or 400 watt motor, a 80 watt solar panel and 2x2 square steel frame. The bikes take about 6 - 8 hours to charge. Not bad, considering the fact that you can pay a visit to your friend’s place in the neighbourhood without having to shell out a penny on fuel! This one is yet to arrive in India, let’s hope it has a safe landing. We can expect many more such innovative inventions soon as more emphasis on keeping the planet green increases. So be a part of the eco-friendly diaspora and let’s make the most of the sun while it shines. - Sagar S

Telephone subscribers (landline and cellular) who do not wish to receive telemarketing calls can opt for this facility by registering their numbers with their telecom service providers for inclusion in the NDNC which will stop Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). UCC has been defined as “any message, through telecommunications service, which is transmitted for the purpose of informing about, or soliciting or promoting any commercial transaction in relation to goods, investments or services which a subscriber opts not to receive.” However UCC does not include any message (other than promotional message) relating to a service or financial transaction under a specific contract between the parties to such contract; or any messages relating to national security, morality, public order, charities, national campaigns or natural calamities transmitted on the directions of the Government or agencies authorised by it for the said purpose. The Telecom Service Provider should enter the telephone number in the Registry within 45 days of registration. The telemarketer will have to verify his calling telephone numbers list with the NDNC registry before making a call. To discourage calls to the numbers registered in ‘Do Not Call’ list, a tariff has been fixed whereby Rs.500 shall be payable by the telemarketer to the service provider for every first UCC and Rs.1000 for subsequent UCC. There is a provision for disconnection of the telemarketer telephone number / telecom resource if the UCC is sent even after levying charges of Rs.500 / Rs.1000. In case of non-compliance with the Telecom Unsolicited Commercial Communications Regulations, 2007, the

service provider is also liable to pay an amount by way of financial disincentive, not exceeding Rs.5000 for first noncompliance of the regulation and in case of second or subsequent such non-compliance, an amount not exceeding Rs.20,000 for each of such non-compliance.
According to the petition, the complainant P.N. Ranganathan, a physically challenged person, along with his wife had booked tickets from Coimbatore to Bangalore and return tickets. He also availed himself of the concession provided for physically challenged senior citizens.
One can register his / her telephone number in NDNC registry by calling or sending SMS to toll-free 1909 saying ‘Start DND’. The registration will become effective within 45 days from the date of registration. If after registration, one continues to get UCCs, a complaint can be made to the service provider within 15 days giving all the details, such as the time of call, name of the caller, phone number etc. Insist on the complaint number for follow-up. The service provider has to tell the complainant about the action taken, within 28 days (in case of UCC belongs to his own telemarketer) and 35 days (in case of telemarketer is of other service provider) from receipt of the complaint. There is also a facility to de-register your phone number from NDNC by calling or sending SMS to toll-free 1909 saying ‘Stop DND’. It will be removed from the National Do Not Call Registry within next 45 days. Once the phone number is registered, it is stored in the NDNC so that all telemarketers can remove the phone number from their call lists. The NDNC is open for all types of phones. In case of disconnection, the number should be re-registered. NDNC do not have a provision for selective telemarketing. The Telecom Unsolicited Commercial Communications Regulations, 2007., were issued by Telecom Regulatory of Authority (TRAI) in order to establish a system to protect the subscriber’s privacy and at the same time ensure that these regulations do not, in any way, infringe the fundamental rights of individuals to the freedom of speech and profession, occupation, trade or business as guaranteed in Articles 19(a) and (g) of the Constitution of India. TRAI concurred with the view of Reserve bank of India’s (RBI’s) working group on regulatory mechanism that it might not be advisable to ban all marketing calls, since they are an important marketing tool and a number of people are in favour of receiving calls regarding new products/information updates on existing products. Therefore, these regulations do not ban telemarketing as a whole, but only restrict the incidence of unwanted UCC.
He was allotted berths in coach S12 for his return journey, but, on reaching the Bangalore station on the date of the journey, he was shocked to find that the train did not have S12 coach, nor was the couple provided with alternative accommodation. The authorities at the station did not help them either. The aged couple who were forced to take a bus back to Coimbatore approached the consumer forum seeking compensation. The Reserve Bank of India has also issued a circular to all scheduled commercial banks / NBFCs giving instructions regarding maintenance of ‘Do Not Call Registry’ by all credit card issuing banks in order to tackle the complaints relating to unsolicited commercial communications being received by customers / non-customers.

he number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 600.69 million at the end of February 2010 from 581.97 million the previous month, registering a growth rate of 3.22%. As a result, the overall tele-density in the country has reached 51.05. And no wonder, telemarketing has become one of the most effective means to increase sales or promotional activities. And many a time, most telephone users have been annoyed by unsolicited calls at busy hours and have been putting up with the ‘nuisance’, unaware of the facility of the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC) introduced about three years ago.
The Coimbatore District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (CDCRF) slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000 on the Southern Railway for denying accommodation to a disabled senior citizen and his wife inspite of their having confirmed tickets.

The Southern Railway, in its counter, averred that the passenger who booked the ticket from Bangalore Junction tried to board the train at Cantonment. It was contended that there was a separate arrangement for physically challenged persons in the brake van of the train and therefore the complaint did not merit any consideration by the forum .The Railways were unable to make alternative arrangements at a different station, where the stoppage was only for a few minutes. The District forum did not accept the Railways argument and said when the S12 coach was not attached to the particular train, nor alternative accommodation provided, boarding the train at the next station would not disqualify the passenger from being a consumer. The forum said there was deficiency in service on the part of the Railways, causing mental agony to the complainant. It ordered refund of the train fare of Rs. 154 along with the bus fare of Rs. 480 and a compensation of Rs. 5,000 to each of the passengers, besides Rs. 1,000 towards the cost of litigation.

Paint it Red... Or blue, or yellow or green... but paint it right.
I
t’s the last thing you do to a car, but it’s the first thing people see. What most people note about your car is its colour. So why not make a good impression right then. Flaunting is not bad if we have the stuff. And with the sun throwing the heat waves on to us, a bright colour for your car is sure to keep the car and you cool. Picking the right paint for your car (and you) will be a tough mission. Even small things can make or break your ride. The right colour and design can make your car a cooler one than it already is or make a dull looking car a radiant one. And we are here to help you pick the right paint. For making the right choice, we have to do the right things. And to do the right things in a game without any rules needs interest and passion. But there are some pointers also to look out for. Find a pro To get a professional paint job to be done, you need to find a professional, a reputed one at that. Get in touch with your friends and their friends for their suggestions for a professional. It will cost you more money but hey, the last thing you would want is a bad paint job. Rapport with painter Yes. You are the owner and you want your desired colour on your car. But the painter is the one who’s doing the job and knows pretty much more than you. The more you communicate with the painter, the more close you will
come to make your vision come true. Reflecting persona Be it urbane, traditional, flashy, or otherwise, the car should reflect the owner’s personality as much as his taste. Get in touch with an artist or designer to establish whether or not your concept can be worked to reality and also to help the painter to understand what you have in your mind.
To be stared
Theme thesis Getting the right theme for your car is as important as other components in painting your car and it should reflect the overall personality. For luxury cars, mean and wild style would be fitting. For the street and sport rides, flashy and exotic colours are sure to attract the guys and girls alike. Shades inspired You have to think beyond what you have already seen in other cars and the paint company’s palettes. Be different. Get inspired from whatever you see around. From the dress you wear to the shopping malls you visit, inspirations can be anything. Read car magazines, visit car shows to get creative ideas. Dynamic duo Traditional painting of neutral colours are always safe but where’s the fun? Two tone paint schemes do have a striking
appearance but a rarity. The cost of the paint comes around Rs.60000 per litre and for the whole car it will put a hole in your purse with around 3 lakh rupees for the paint alone. Now you know why this is a rarity. Job to do The car’s usage plays a major role in selecting the colour and quality of the paints to be used. If you use your car for daily purpose, go for simple colours with low price tags that can be easily retouched. Choose colours that you won’t get tired of looking at daily and that will stay in style for another couple of years. And if the car is used less frequently, there’s nothing wrong in going for a trendier, costlier and bolder colour.
We put so much time and energy to paint a car and what for? The whole purpose of picking the right colour is to draw attention. So when picking colours, you have to determine how much attention you want, from whom you want and so on. Think about unique colours that haven’t been done too many times before. What’s hot and what’s not Striking blacks, lingering coppers, billowing blues, shades of green and deep reds have been making waves for some decades now. Today’s colours have more depth, gloss and range. Classics will always remain classics as the classier-looking colours are not likely to go out of style for many more years. Get updated on the latest patterns available and be intuitive. Your car’s paint is like a makeup of a woman or a suit of a man. It should complement the looks without calling attention to the fact that it’s there. Don’t follow any specific trends and style. Trust your instincts, it’s your car. - Balasubramaniam.N

I am Back! S
Actress Sada
on sets
l i g h t . c a m e r a . a c t i o n
he’s been there, done that, reached the heights of fame and fortune in Kollywood. Then she took a short sabbatical venture into Bollywood and we didn’t hear from her. But now the svelte Sada is back in town in Director P Vasu’s next film ‘Pulivesham’. Talking to her we discover all about her recent touch down in Kollywood and how excited she is to be back… Bollywood ride I have been busy with a few Hindi projects like ‘Love Kichadi’ directed by Srinivas who was Mani Ratnam’s assistant. Then I did ‘Click’ with Shreyas Talpade and I have ‘Khalbali’ with Nikhil Dwivedi. So I guess my plate has been a bit full. Goodbye, Chennai? Not at all, language has never been a barrier for me. I started my career in the South after all. But Hindi is my mother tongue so I am a bit more comfortable with the language, that’s all. I plan to balance my career with films from all languages. Homely or glam-doll I did homely and traditional girl roles according to what the people wished. But with ‘Anniyan’, it changed and I started getting glam-doll offers. But I have my limitations and I will never go overboard with glamour. Back in Kollywood This time, it’s P Vasu’s ‘Pulivesham’ opposite RK who is also producing the film. I am very excited about the role. Karthik is also playing a cop in it. You will see negative shades in my role. I am so excited at this offer since I have always wanted to work with P Vasu but just kept missing it everytime. And yes, I have never done such a role before. Will you dub in Tamil? My Tamil skills are not that good yet though I want to do it some day! Working with newcomers That’s a big risk to take if the entire banner, director and actors are new. I tried that in Telugu and it didn’t work for me. But yes, I don’t mind working with new actors since I have done so in ‘Unnale Unnale’ with Vinay and in Jeyam with Ravi. If I do so now however, I would need the producer, director and story to be really strong so as to carry the film to the audiences in the right way. So are you here to stay? Definitely! - Rinku Gupta
Simply Sada ‘Brand’ed: Calvin Klein for perfumes, Mango for glares and Levis for jeans. My dream holiday: Amsterdam because I just love tulips and haven’t been able to explore all that yet. Favourite hangout spot in Chennai : The Park My mobile phone is: A Nokia, I don’t even recall the model! It’s a basic model. I am not a gadget freak. My favourite cuisine: Home-cooked food is the best. I am a person who enjoys the simple and basic things of life.
