Understanding insulation
Understanding noise
Since the heat flow resistance of still air is much greater than that of glass, a glass unit made of two panes enclosing an air space will have about twice the insulation value of a single pane window (half the heat loss).
There are various ways to measure how effective a product is at sound control. The chart below uses Perceived Sound Reduction (PSR). With this system a 10 decibel reduction is generally considered as having reduced the original noise level by 50%.
Argon gas is a naturally occurring inert gas, which is not harmful to you. By trapping a measured amount of argon gas between the panes of glass and sealing it in, the insulating performance of your double glazing increases. Argon gas is denser than air and acts as a greater barrier to heat loss and heat absorption in the home. Low E (Low Emissivity) glass reflects the long wave radiation, keeping the heat inside the home during winter and preventing heat absorption during the hot summer months. Using a combination of Low E glass and argon gas you will receive ultimate insulation performance. The different insulating glass unit (IGU) products available will offer varying levels of insulation: IGU type

The benefits of double glazing Reduced condensation, which is that crying look that windows get. This is a serious problem, it causes mould and mildew, and in some cases it will also rot timber window frames and damage your family’s health. Reduced noise for a calmer, quieter home. High performance double glazing can reduce outside noise by up to 60%, making it a great investment if you live by a busy road or beneath a flight path.
Many thanks for the quality service we’ve had regarding the installation of our double glazing. Nothing was too much trouble, your team ensured we were completely satisfied!
Enhanced resale value of your home. Now an older home can be just as desirable to the purchaser who wants to ensure that the home they buy is efficiently insulated. With retrofit double glazing any home can get the benefits! Reduce the need for thermal drapes that can block the exterior view. Reduced interior fading by using glass combinations that reduce the transmission of UV radiation. Discourage intruders for safety and security.

Double glazing provides insulation creating a warmer house in winter and a cooler house in summer. And because there’s less need for heating and cooling systems you’ll be reducing energy consumption, which saves on your power bills and helps the environment.
It’s more difficult for intruders to break in through double glazed windows, particularly if you include laminated or toughened glass.
What is retrofit double glazing?
How does the retrofit process work?
Retrofit double glazing is the process of replacing your existing single glazing with insulating glass units (IGU’s). The process is quick and unobtrusive. The only difference you will notice is a more comfortable temperature all year round.
Step 1 After discussing the problems that your home is experiencing (heat loss or gain, noise, condensation, glare and fading, comfort, safety or aesthetics) our representative will conduct an initial measure of the windows and provide an obligation-free quote.
This is not a low quality, clip-on solution. Our IGU’s are purpose built for each home, and meet the highest construction standards. All materials will be colour-matched as close as possible to suit your existing window frames. High performance double glazing can reduce heat loss by up to 73% when compared to single glazing. Even a modern, well-insulated home may still lose up to 50% of interior heat through single glazed windows.
Step 2 I f you choose to accept the quote, we will complete a final measure, manufacture the IGU’s in one of our factories and set a date for installation that is suitable for you. Step 3 O n the day of installation, our Metrofit team will bring the IGU’s to your home and begin installing them. The process is quick and unobtrusive.
Since the installation a lot of external noise has been stopped or muffled. And in terms of warmth, I have found the house to be warmer both at night and in the morning. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.
