Most of us spend a good portion of our lives working for a paycheck. Yet we have conflicting emotions about money and wealth. We envy the rich and famous. At the same time we berate the so-called 1 percent for being greedy and selfish. We play the lottery in search of a sudden windfall. Yet many of us still believe that money is the root of all evil, and that it’s easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich person to enter heaven. Money, not sex, is the last taboo. But if you want to make a successful life for yourself and build up resources for a comfortable retirement, you need to get beyond your mixed feelings about money and start thinking like a rich person. 8

Here’s what Rich People Believe 1. Money is not evil – it is the fuel that produces good things in life Greed may not be good, but money brings health and happiness and a comfortable lifestyle for you and your loved ones. The wealthy are not inherently dishonest; they do not feel ashamed of their first-class lifestyle or their bulging portfolios. In fact, most rich people take pride in their accomplishments and enjoy the fruits of their labours.

2. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more money Many people find it more difficult to talk about money than they do about sex. But there’s nothing shameful or dirty about money. And while there are always people trying to keep you down – who say you’re too big for your britches, or too full of yourself – the real road to riches is paved with rising ambitions, a focus on the future and your willingness to bet on yourself.

The way to achieve real wealth is to earn more, not save more Sure, you can squeeze out a few extra dollars from your monthly budget to deposit into your retirement account if you clip coupons and shop at the outlet mall. But the way to get rich is to play offense, not defense. You need to earn a bigger paycheck, not pinch pennies. Your time is better spent cultivating your career and developing new opportunities. The key is not to view your job as drudgery, but to enjoy what you do, expand your skills and look for new opportunities. Don’t be afraid to take a few risks, learn from your mistakes and let failure roll off your back.

6. Spend more on education and less on entertainment Nobody ever struck it rich reading the tabloids, watching television or playing video games. Successful people spend their time improving their skills, researching opportunities and figuring out ways to solve problems. Yet these people typically do not put a lot of faith in formal education or fancy degrees. They focus on useful, practical skills that are relevant to their career.

4. Rich people tend to live below their means, not above Too many middle class Americans run a budget deficit every month and struggle to pay the interest and penalties on their credit card bills. They may take on debt to start a business, pay for training or buy a house, but not to purchase the latest consumer item. They get on a virtuous cycle: the more you invest, the more you earn and the easier it is to live below your means.

5. Rely on brain work, not a lucky guess Millions of people play the lottery, but only a handful win the jackpot. Millions of investors trade stocks, but the people who get rich are not the day traders but the Warren Buffetts of the world – the ones who do their homework, invest for the long term and end up retiring rich. It’s no different with your career. Yes, a few lucky people are discovered in Hollywood or make a hit record. But most people who get rich do it by working hard, solving problems and planning for the future.

7. You think you deserve it Magazines and newspapers are filled with articles about successful people in all walks of life, from business to education to government. There’s no reason why you can’t be one of them. But you have to believe in yourself, develop your skills and trust your judgment. You need to look after yourself, and not defer to other people. find change fascinating. We often hear these sayings, “You’re either on the train or under the train.” Sometimes we “blow away the cobwebs” or find a “breath of fresh air.” There are occasions when we “get outside the box” or “shake things up a bit.” There are, of course, situations that are far more serious when we realize we “can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs” or we encourage innovation by “turning lemons into lemonade.” The most supportive of these clichés, however, is a warning that, “You’re either at the table, or on the menu.”

Some people are averse to change. They like to keep things the way they are; they like to stay in their comfort zone. But great people ask questions like, “What’s next?” and “What am I getting better at?”

“What’s Next?” What’s next is a wonderful positive statement to state, to ourselves. Take a positive approach of our life and go for the next step. It opens you to a new world of possibilities. You begin to think bigger. You begin to ask yourself what’s possible, if only you could challenge yourself. If we were to ask ourselves these questions, we might find ourselves leaping toward change with excited anticipation.

Prosperous people appreciate and embrace change as a universal law of life, as they understand that if they are not changing and growing, they are not creating more space to accommodate the new desired levels of prosperity they wish to receive in all areas of their life. One never knows what each change may bring. When you turn from your usual path there will be plenty of different opportunities waiting for you. Changes will bring new choices for happiness and fulfilment.

Having coached 100’s of clients around the world, including Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and the UK, there are certain patterns that come up regularly. It does not matter where people are from, or what culture they are bought up in, everybody still dreams of having MORE. Everybody says they want to be financially free, and/or to be rich, and everybody says they want more time, more money, and more freedom.

So the big questions remain: If everybody wants it, why is it that statistically only 3% of people actually ever become financially free? Why is it that the rich get richer, whilst the poor get poorer? Why is it that there is an abundance of Wealth at our disposal, and yet only a small few understand how to acquire it?

My purpose ultimately always comes back to answering these kinds of questions. Obviously there is no simple answer to this, however there are fundamentals that can be learned by everyone, in order to take you much closer to what you really want. The problem is that the society you live in does not want you to find the answer! They want you to stay exactly how you are now, and to continue to fit into that system, as that suits them just fine!

Creating an Effective STRATEGIES

You are being conditioned from the moment you are born to fit into the system, and to ultimately be a consumer. You earn and you spend, and that’s what works in the system. Your subconscious mind is your loyal servant, who’s number 1 job, is to keep you safe. To do something different to what is “the norm” requires a change in the programming of your mind, in order for your mind to be convinced. Of course one of the biggest excuses people use in order to not have what they want, is money. If you carry this lack of money thinking and feeling, then you are already guaranteeing that you will not succeed.

The truth is that there is an abundance of money, and an abundance of opportunity for everyone. The only restrictions to this are those that you create and impose on yourself.

We teach our students how to remove the limiting beliefs that have been holding them back. These excuses must be taken away before you can achieve what you desire.

An example of this is with investing. There are plenty of very good, and very safe investments giving very high returns, and it is not actually difficult to double your money every 3 years. If everyone did this, then they would all be financially free in just 7 years!

Then you must learn to know what you really want, and how to create that into your life. You must know how to dream and to create the movie of your life how you want it to be. If you do not do this, then you will continue to wait, and life will pass you by, until it is too late.

Instead people continue to follow the herd, and rely on the wrong people to tell them what to do. You must educate yourself as it is ultimately down to you to know what is best for you.

Once they have created their movie, then the next step is to design the action plan. Here is the thing when it comes to planning there is absolutely no point in always planning too far ahead for 2 main reasons:

1.It is too far ahead for you to really believe it exists 2.You do not know and cannot know what opportunities will come in the short term! What this means is that, too many people plan for the long term based on what they have now! However your short-term goal should be to create a platform to have so much more! Long term planning, is more about having foundations in place to secure your future. This means making the right investments to remove any risk. (Yes that’s right it is possible to take losing off the table when you invest!

| Your short-term plan must excite you, otherwise I assure you that you will not take the necessary action. Remember that you are not a machine, you are a human being, and it is important to live life and make the most of it throughout. You do not have to make sacrifices! Instead you make clear choices and enjoy making them, because you understand how they take you closer to having your dreams now! In terms of financial success there are some fundamentals, which you must action if you want to be successful financially.

Creating more money: You must create value, as your income will be a direct result of the value you provide to others. If you value yourself as a salary of RM20,000 per year, then that is exactly what you will get. Review what value you provide, and how you can create more value. This is a must for you to start creating more money.

Spending: You must review your emotional spending habits, as these are sabotaging your financial future. Achieving success financially does not just come from making more money, what counts is how much of that money you get to keep!

Investing: You should be aiming to invest at least 30% of what you earn. In fact if you achieve this you can replace your salary in 6/7 years, from this one strategy alone. You must ensure that your cash works for you, and the most important factor is how you manage your cash flow.

Risk: In my opinion you must ensure that you take losing out of the equation. There is no point in making 100% returns, if you also risk losing it all! The best way to remove risk, is by effectively managing your cash flow, and investing in the right cycles. The most important thing is to stay in the game!

Trade Union Dec by Ramesh Kumar A trade union is an organization whose membership is comprised of workers. According to Malaysia Trade Union 1959, trade union had defined as any temporary or permanent association or combination of employers or of employees within a particular establishment or industry or trade or occupation or within similar industries or trade or occupations. The trade unions objective is (1) to protect and advances the industrial, community and intellectual benefit of its members in workplace; (2) to make sure their member’s salary rates are fair; security of employment and sensible working hours and condition of work; (3) to enhance the education and social welfare of the members; (4) to promote legislation influencing the interests of the members in particular or trade unionists in general.

rade Unions Act 1959 (TUA) and the Industrial Relations Act 1967 (IRA) are current legislative apparatus controlling trade unions and trade union activities in Malaysia - the TUA use to control the activities of trade union while the IRA use to manages the employer- union relations. In Malaysia, the number of trade unions in private sector had gradually decline from 433, 702 member in year 2009 to 378, 188 member in year 2012 (Labor Force Survey Report Malaysia, 2012). Therefore, in this study we will identify the factors that motivate employee’s intention to not Join Trade Unions and to strengthen these factors in order to overcome the decline phenomenon.

1. Union Related One of the main reasons that the employees leave trade union are related to the union itself. The union members leave union because of the instrumental reasons. Involvement in the event of bargains for the state that are not value or the union lacking with the services are the instrumental reason that cause member leaving the union. In addition, high monthly union fee also consider as a factor that drive member chooses to withdraw the union.

Although the trade union will bring a lot benefits for the member, but there are still many members prefer to leave the union. What are the reasons? Work related reasons that make the member leaves union is like the changes to work situation, job satisfaction and treatment by the employer. For this reasons, it is not related to the union ability or policy. When there is a new environment of new job, the union member will reconsider the benefits of participate in the trade union, thus, that member will leave the union when he or she found that there was no benefits to join the union. While, the benefit of membership will becoming offset when the member are unemployed. The job instability becomes a big reason for the employees to leave the union. The workers who are only the temporally staff or sign the short-term contract with the company are refuse to join the trade union, thus make the union facing the declining situation.

Today’s workers have their personal and family motives to leave the union, which includes the birth of a child, health problem or divorce, each of which can influence the decision to leave a union. The personal and family motives are connected to the work related reason. For examples, personal motive, when the employee have the health problem, he or she have to resign the job, in order to regain his/her health; while for family motives, a female employee will choose to quick her job after birth a child because she wants to take care of her newborn child. Implication

In order to overcome the problem of union related, first of all, union need to take it serious with the instrumental reason. Other than providing a lot of benefits to union member, union also needs to concentrate to member’s personal need. Different people have different needs. Therefore, unions should base on the member’s personal needs and requirement to fight for the right and benefits that meet the member needs. Besides that, regarding the high monthly union fee, union should reduce the fee and adjust it on an acceptable level. It is because the main reason member join trade union is to reduce the burden as union will help them to fight for more benefits. If union’s set the high monthly fee, then it will cause the member overburdened. Next, regarding the work related reasons; union should reconsider the benefits that a member wants when there is a new environment of new job. For example, when a member was sent abroad to work, then unions need represent this member to negotiate with the company to fight for the allowance for airfare, because if the member is working in local, then this type of allowance are not providing by company. Moreover, union also needs to provide membership for the worker who are temporally staff or sign the short-term contract with the company. Many companies treat their temporally staff or shortterm contract staffs with the unfair treatment just because these temporally staff are not being protected by unions. Lastly, personal and family motives are the most difficult problem to overcome useless there is a good reason to retain. Many of the union’s members leave unions because of the personal and family motive. Therefore, unions should use this motive as a reason to retain their member. For example, if member facing health problem, unions can provide financial support for him/her by helping him/her pay part of the medical expenses. In addition, unions also can help this member to negotiate with the company to let them has a flexible work schedules in order to let them have much more time to has a rest. If unions able to provide this kind of benefits, then sure the member will retain as the member. In the conclusion, trade union is organizations with the objectives to protect the workers and make sure the employer are fair to the workers. Trade union were participated by the workers, they prefer to join union because the workers have the expectation to have the higher salary rate after join the union. Besides, unions are able to provide benefits, job security and legal consultant to the workers. The other factor that motivates the workers to join union is the social needs. Although union can provide some benefits to the workers, but there are still have a lot workers refuse to join the union because of some reasons such as union related, work related and personal and family motives of the workers. In my book A+B=C™ Practical Guide for Students to Develop Attitude and Behavior for Character Building, Charactervity™ is described as the rate of activity utilized over a period of time in developing our attitude and behavior to result in good character. In crux, it is the time and efforts spent to develop our attitude and behavior to determine the achievement of our character outcome. The Human Resource Department of a company strives to provide interventions for employees to spend more time in meaningful activities, with an aim to develop positive attitude and behavior contributing to the bottom line results.

2. Villain Character Such employees serve for selfish purpose in which others may well be harmed or abused in some way. This character is the flip side of the gem character. A Company must be cautious with such character as it could destroy its cultural fabrics. Such character embodies the wrong path in life. Usually the law breakers. This employee could be the false character pretending to be something he is not or deliberately being falsehood. Over the course of serving the corporate world, it is observed, to achieve organizational effectiveness, people in the organization must be developed in their attitude and behavior. It is surprising to know how the behavior and character issues overall impact productivity. In fact, it would not be exaggerating to conclude that Charactervity actually determines productivity.

If a person has 50% skills and knowledge and 100% positive attitude, sooner or later with that positive attitude he could easily enhance his knowledge and skills. Whereas another person with 100% of skills and knowledge may not sustain his knowledge and skills at that level if he has a bad attitude. Complacency and arrogance will set-in to defeat him eventually.

How? Here are some points: 1. Vital Over Trivial Matters People with character are able to distinguish between important tasks and trivial ones. Their attitude towards task is by working on the vital issues, the trivial ones will be resolved.

2. Know Priorities People with character have clear direction. Again, they don’t just get things done they get the right things done. Armed with positive attitude, they also delegate. They don’t spend time on tasks that someone else can do. Instead they focus on “where their energy is best spent. Positive characters are able to control their schedules and know how to prioritize work so they can make time for important activities. They know the obvious that they can’t be available to everyone every day.

3. Stay Focused People of character are able to concentrate on the task at hand and tune out distractions. Like productivity, finding focus isn’t a natural ability. It’s a skill anyone can cultivate as long as they are having the right attitude and behavior. By staying focus, these people are able to achieve the desired results for the company and in return enhance productivity.

By being disorganized, that extra time spent looking for a phone number, email address or a certain file forces a person to lose concentration. Once it’s gone, it takes a while to get it back and that’s where the real time is wasted and productivity is lost.

5. Disciplined People of character are able to eliminate time-wastage, take personal responsibility and strive for constant improvement and build high accountability. When an employee consistently achieve goals, meets deadlines and commits to teamwork it will help in achieving productivity. By this discipline, they also build strong work ethics, a requisite for integrity. By displaying a positive attitude toward work, employees get work done in timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction and meeting organizational goals.

By establishing standards for business conduct, company employees set expectations about acceptable behavior. By valuing each other’s opinions, treat customers with dignity and recognize cultural diversity, companies ensure that employees show respect in the workplace. If employees have negative attitude toward other employees because they come from a different culture, productivity tends to decrease. “Come on, put the concealer on. It is not that big a deal. Even David Beckham has make-up on!”, I heard, Tania convincing her boyfriend, Brandon as we were all getting dressed for our good friend, Leia’s wedding.

Q

uietly, I laughed to myself, not being able to accept the fact that the attitude of being image conscious has also caught on the male gender today. I can get away unhurt if I mess with a girl’s hair but this is not the case if I mess with a guy’s neatly spiked or gelled hair. Well, the entire point here is, whether it’s male, female, young or aged person, everybody wants to look good. The influence of media showcasing a whole new dreamy world with slim and curvy girls and six-packed guys, all boasting their flawless skin and sparkling eyes with perfectly curved lashes has in some way inspired us, the non-model-people to also own such physical asset. It is hence, no wonder that a United Kingdom based consultant company called as The Beauty Company discovered in their research, that the beauty industry is one of the least affected industry during an economic downturn. Narrowing down to Malaysia, the beauty industry stands strong here with Malaysians spending close to RM1.6 billion annually on cosmetics. Either as a result to serve the growing demand of the industry or as passion to venture in the beauty industry, we have beauty salons set up all over the town today.

There are many who are interested in this industry. However, what does it really take to succeed in this industry? The crew has met up with Ms.Surjeet Kaur, a very determined 53 year old woman who is the founder of Mitra Beauty. Located in Petaling Jaya, Mitra Beauty provides beauty services which include facial, manipedi services, waxing and threading, bridal, studio photography and training. Ms.Surjeet had quite a rough beginning. She lost her mum when she was 15. Since then, she was more self-dependent as her father was most of the time in Singapore due to work responsibilities. “I did not have the opportunity to study further to acquire a professional degree. My path was clear. I completed school and I knew I had to make money. So, I begin working”, explained Ms.Surjeet. However, nothing stopped this iron woman from succeeding. The urge to become successful in life was so strong in her that she was juggling part-time study on accounting and work at the same time. She recalled that her first job only paid her RM180 per month. For a woman born in the 60s with no tertiary school education, Ms.Surjeet stands out amongst others of her own age group by proving that challenges are nothing for those who take their dream seriously. To the younger generation, Ms.Surjeet has set an example as to which extent one can succeed purely through determination and hardwork. Whether you are an entrepreneur or aspire to become a successful entrepreneur or a housewife who may assume that it is just so much that you can achieve, the following interview session with Ms.Surjeet is a must-read as it definitely offers a lesson to everyone.

“Be it business or my personal life, if there is an issue, I stay focused on solving the issue” How long were you working? What have you learned by being an employee and do you see any difference in the working culture of today’s generation compared to the working culture of the older generation?

I was working for approximately 24 years in four different companies. Work life has taught me a lot. In the early 1990s, I took up a job as a project buyer in an oil and gas firm. This was a whole new industry I was venturing into. Adding to this, prior to this job, I was not working for two whole years. So, there was a lot for me to take and learn within a short period of time. However, I am not a person who would not give up easily. Instead of sitting down and whining about a problem, I prefer finding a solution for it. I learned up my job and also performed in it. And this is not just job I am talking about. Be it business or my personal life, if there is an issue, I stay focused on solving the issue. Sometimes, people get so busy being worried about the damage an issue can do in their life, they forget about solving it. On the other hand, there is certainly a lot of difference in the working culture of today’s generation in comparison to generation of my time. Youngsters today lack good work attitude. To most of them, work serves solely as a platform to earn monthly salary and not as a learning curve. This is totally wrong. We will never know when the lesson learned from a job would serve us in our personal life or in our future job or in whatever it is that we wish to do in our life.

How did this transition from job to getting your own business started happen?

I often get asked this question. I would say mine is a very different story. I could be a makeup artist today but I was never one of those who dabbled in makeup during my younger days. When there were parties, I have never helped anyone with makeup or in getting them dressed up. I discovered my passion for colours and makeup while being in this industry. It all started with this advertisement I saw in the newspaper which advertised about “Career in the Beauty Industry”. It was a U.K (United Kingdom) affiliated programme with the trainer coming from overseas. I decided to go. After attending the introduction course, I had no second guesses. I decided to enrol in the programme right away. It was a two years diploma course in Beauty Therapy. I studied both theory, which included understanding the mechanism of skin and body, and practical, which included makeup, client handling, professionalism and time management in this diploma course.

Walk us through your journey of turning your home based beauty salon to a full-fledged beauty salon today.

Well, it was a partnership actually. From a home-based salon, I went into partnership with a friend of mine. I was in partnership for four years. However, my demand started growing when my eldest child had to go to university and my business was unable to accommodate to my demand. This was when I decided to end the partnership. In fact, I wanted to go back to work that time. Just then, a Chinese man approached me. He wanted to set up a one stop centre which provides wedding related services like catering, decoration and bridal. I really did not want to go back but this Chinese man just wouldn’t give up. He bugged the life out of me. Finally, I decided to give it a go for one last time. I told myself, six months down the road, if things do not turn out well, I am going to close everything down and never look back.

Upon completing the course, I got my business started by turning a room into a beauty salon in my house. Although I was operating from home, I practiced professionalism. I had friends coming over for facial, but during work hour, I treated them solely as clients. I avoided talking personal issues and problems to them. I also trained my children not to knock my salon door unless there was something really urgent. Besides that, you know, we Indians practice eating with our hands. If I was going to have a client coming over later, I will avoid touching onions or fish or even using my hands to eat (Laughs). The smell sticks to our hands and the client is not going to like it.

But you know what, things did turn out well. The Chinese man rented out a 200 sq. ft. space to set up my salon. While operating there I participated in my first exhibition and my business began picking up. So, I moved from a 200 sq. ft. space to sharing a premise with another company from the same industry. Then, I went on opening a premise on my own in Brickfields and just two years back, I moved out from Brickfields due to congestion and high rental to opening a 2000 sq. ft. Mitra Beauty outlet in Petaling Jaya.

My job that time was on a contract basis. So, I decided not to get my contract renewed the following year as I wanted to venture on my own. Since you were working from home, how was your husband’s support?

Oh, he is a lovely man. He had been very supportive actually. As long as he knows that I am clear with what I am doing, he is all happy and supportive.

| Tell us the reason behind the name Mitra Beauty and the steps that you have taken to promote it.

Mitra means friendship in Sanskrit and I felt that it best suited the beauty industry as I totally believe in building a good corporate social relationship with my clients. Promoting a salon is important. We do constantly update our facebook page, participate in exhibitions and bridal fairs, but let’s face the fact, all of these become redundant if you do not deliver what you promise. I mean, the clients have got to trust you haven’t they? So, me and my team here also focus on making sure that our services are good and most importantly, we ensure that we keep up to the promise that we have made to our clients. Word of mouth is one of the best promotion. How competitive is the beauty industry and how do you keep up with the changes?

This industry is extremely competitive. There are always new players entering the market. Trend changes very fast and if we keep doing what we have always been doing, we are only going to move backwards. Hence, it is very important that we keep innovating. What I do is that I invest a lot in makeup books from overseas. I will pick a tip or two from there and modify it to appeal to Malaysian trend. What is pre-wedding photography?

Photos taken prior to wedding. In Mitra Beauty, we keep working on identifying new locations and new ideas for the photoshoots. Instead of sticking to the same old trend of being all dressy, we also shoot in a more practical and casual attire. We understand that pre-wedding photoshoots are monopolized by Chinese. How do you handle it and what are the other challenges you have faced in this business?

I have been involved in pre-wedding photoshoots for five years now. Yes, it is true that customers used to go to Chinese but now the trend has changed. Customers have begun believing that Indians too can deliver a good job. And also, our biggest advantage is that we are able to tackle both modern and traditional styled photoshoots whereas other communities may only be able to cater to modern styled photo-shoots. They may have penetrated the Indian traditional market but in terms of understanding it and meeting the exact requirement of customers, I believe, we being Indians ourselves are definitely ahead of them. Besides that, one other major hurdle we had to overcome is in letting people know that we were good at makeup, good at pictures and ideas, in whole, in letting people know that we were indeed good at pre-wedding photography. What are customer’s expectations when it comes to pre-wedding photo-shoots?

Reasonable pricing, good pictures and neat end job. 28

| How are you different from other players in the beauty industry when it comes to bridal?

We treat every bride individually. Not every bride would want a strong-smoky-eye or thick eyeliners. I believe in doing what suits a bride the most and most importantly, in what she is very comfortable in carrying herself with on her Big day. It is totally pointless in pushing what is trend when the bride is not comfortable having it on her. This would result in her not feeling happy which will then result in the pictures not looking good. Hence, we will always listen to the requirements of a customer, go through a trial round with her where we would compare her requirement and our suggestion and come up with a decision everyone is happy with. What are your measures in ensuring a good customer service?

In Mitra Beauty, we believe in practicing time punctuality, delivering a good job and respecting our customer’s needs. We make sure we sit down with every customer to identify what they are truly expecting from us. It is wrong for us to perceive a customer to be fussy. It is after all their Big day and they will definitely have the anxiety of wanting to look good. If a customer is being too precise and particular in how she wants things to be, it is most probably because she does not have the full trust on us yet. She is still afraid that we might make mistake or under-deliver. At times like this, instead of just brushing it away, it is best to sit down with the customer and give her the assurance that we will be able to deliver it. On the other hand, if we do not have the confidence that we can deliver what the customer wants, we must inform her.

Do you have any plans in taking Mitra Beauty international?

At the present time, no. We need more manpower to do that. The fact is, managing it in Malaysia itself is quite a job. So, perhaps, later in the future. One’s attitude decides one’s altitude. In regard to that, what are the attitudes of yours that you think has contributed to your success?

I am a very strong person. I do not give up easily. I also observe others and see what are the positive attributes that I can pick from them. Besides that, like everyone else, I have my share of problems as well. However, I do not allow my problems to hinder my progress in business. Problems are issues which I will have to solve or sometimes learn to solve. That’s it. We are all human being and we do make mistake, So, I continuously work on refining my work to ensure I make the least percentage of mistakes as possible. I also think it is very important for us not to be complacent with what we do. No matter how well we have done something, there is always room for improvement. Instead of being complacent, we must always be a learner.

“Never ever underestimate yourself because we, women are very very strong people!� What is your advice to others who would want to venture in the beauty industry?

Well, it is definitely good to do a business of your own. We cannot say that we must know it all to get a business started. Yet, we also cannot claim that we know it all when we had only known up till certain extent. Like what I said earlier, we must keep learning and improving our services. Also, my humble request to my Indian friends who run a salon, please do take cleanliness and hygiene more seriously.

As an entrepreneur, what do you plan to give back to the society?

There is a lot that I would like to contribute. Presently, I am working on creating a good training platform for those who intend to venture in the beauty industry.

As a women entrepreneur, what is your advice to other women out there who intend to get a business started or who are already running a business?

Never ever underestimate yourself because we, women are very very strong people! It is just that sometimes we allow everything else around us to bog us down. Then, we give up faith in ourselves which then leads us to giving up hope in our dreams and ideas. I am not asking you to neglect your responsibility towards your family. We are strong. I am only asking you to work around it because you actually can and most importantly, you own it to yourself.

ith the price index of 106.9 last year, Malaysian wholesale business is ranked 59th in the World. Wholesalers are basically the middle man between producers and users. Wholesalers buy goods in large quantities at very low price and sell it to retailers, distributors, institutional and professional users or public like us with a healthy profit margin. To learn more about wholesaling, the crew has met up with an individual who had been in the industry for the past 40 years and have his business running successfully in Malaysia, Mr.Seeni Sulaiman.

At a tender age of four, Sulaiman left India to come to Malaysia with his father. The family resided in Penang. Whilst his father managed a small retail shop, Sulaiman was focusing in his studies. Once completing his LCE examination, Sulaiman decided to contribute to his family’s income by working in Kuala Lumpur. Being young, vibrant and with full of determination to build a successful career path, Sulaiman ventured into working in various industries such as printing, textile and stationery. Life was good for Sulaiman until one day he received a news that his father met with an accident. He rushed to Penang only to find out that his father no longer will be able to take care of the family’s retail shop. . When life leaves us with only one choice, facing it head-on rather than whining would be the best decision to take. That was what Sulaiman did. He left his job in Kuala Lumpur and took over his father’s retail shop which was then located at 63- China Street. With nothing but pure hardwork and focus, Sulaiman has developed his small retail shop to two wholesaler stores today which supply goods constituting of dailyused-products such as milk, toiletries and soft-drinks to the entire Penang Island. Some may assume that a wholesale business may not generate good revenue as goods sold in a wholesale store is cheaper than those in normal retail shops. This is not absolutely right. It is true that goods sold in a wholesale store are cheaper, but those goods are also sold in large quantities. This generates very good revenue. On top of that, in a competitive market today, wholesale goods become more desirable as it offers a much less price compared to hypermarkets like Tesco and Giant which only offers promotion on certain days in a year. Now that we have understood that a wholesale business has a potential to generate good revenue, how do we get a wholesale business started? Alright! Please stay calm and listen further. Mr.Sulaiman has advised us on a step by step process to helping one build a successful wholesale business. Step 1, do not rush and invest right away in a wholesale store. That’s right folks. To get the hang of the industry and build important network, get started with a retail shop first. Step 2, learn in and out about the business and build a good relationship with as many suppliers as possible. You will be needing

says Mr.Sulaiman. He further adds that people should quit running after fast money as fast money wouldn’t last. Some of his most memorable moments had been those times he returned the extra cash customers accidentally had given him which is then accepted by the customer with a smile of gratitude. Next, we were very interested in knowing Mr.Sulaiman’s perspective about the progress of Indian community in business. Well, his answer was really not favourable to the Indian community. Not favourable but rather awakening. According to him, Indians in Malaysia prefer an easy life where they would be able to earn some money at the end of every month after a routine-like eight hour job everyday. Sadly, it is indeed painful to admit that Indians are moving backwards in business in Malaysia. Of course money is earned but money earned through job will not be able to provide one the ultimate lifestyle that he desires to live. Everybody goes to job but the extraordinary ones build a business, make a difference in the World and provide job opportunities. So, we have to understand one fact here, building a business takes a lot of effort and hardwork but it is worth it. Hence, Mr.Sulaiman concluded that youngsters today must be more entrepreneurial. They should be bold and break the mundane culture of Indian community of working under someone and limiting their dreams to only climbing the corporate ladder. Some Indians in Malaysia aspire to get their business started in India. When we inquired Mr.Sulaiman about this matter, he says that it is a very good idea mainly because of the population strength that India has. The population of India is almost 36 times more than Malaysia. Of course this sets a large customer database for any entrepreneur. However, we must also understand that India already has all kinds of business from various industries running successfully in the nation itself. Therefore, having an intention to get a business started overseas is not wrong, but again, market research is important. Be innovative and bring something unique and new to India or any other nation for that matter. Finally, the topic of discussion moved to more personal matters as to how an entrepreneur should behave and what are the qualities one needs to become more successful in life. Mr.Sulaiman is a man of simplicity. Having achieved such great success, he never allows his success to slow him down. Till today, he still lives his life by setting goals and working 365 days a year to achieve it. The best formula, he believes, which contributes to a successful life is nothing else but hardwork. However, based on our experience, Indian businesses have filed a relatively lower number of trademark applications compared to other business groups. A trade mark is the face of your brand or company. Usually in the form of words, logos, pictures, names, letters, numbers or a combination thereof.

What is a “trademark right”? A trademark right is a right that grants sole ownership of a trademark. Therefore, if some one else using your trademark, it is possible to stop them from using your trademark. Registering your trademark gives you the exclusive rights to use your mark for the goods and/or services that it covers in the country that your mark is registered in. What is a “registered trademark”? Registered trade mark is trademark that has been granted by the Trademark Office. Certificate of Registration will be issued by the Trade Mark Office and this certificate of registration serves as an important document to establish the ownership of goods and/or services exported to other countries. If you have a registered trademark, the symbol ® should be used, and is usually placed on the right shoulder of the word to warn others against using it. However, using this symbol for a trademark that is not registered is an offence. What is a “renewal”? To ensure your trade mark registration remains alive, you must renew your trade mark. In most countries around the world, including Malaysia, a registered trademark must be renewed once in every 10 years. If a renewal is not filed, the trade mark right will be terminated. It is important to be aware that, after termination, others can acquire the same trademark right and then use this trademark right to sue the former trademark right holder if they continue using the trade mark. What is a “trademark right”? A trademark right is a right that grants sole ownership of a trademark. Questions about filing an application Where can I file a “trademark registration application”? A trade mark application is filed with the Trademark Office. In Malaysia, trademark applictions are filed with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). When a trademark application is filed, the Examiner will examine the application to determine whether the trademark should be registered or refused. When do I file a “trademark registration application”? There is no specific deadline by which the trade mark application must be filed. However, it advisable to file as soon as possible, preferably before you start using the trademark in the country. How long does it take from filing a “trademark registration application” to being granted a “trademark registration”? In Malaysia, if a trademark application does not face any objections or oppositions, the trademark will be registered around 12 months from the date of filing of your trademark application. The time taken will be longer if there are a lot of objections from the Examiner and/or if the application is opposed by a third party. The time frame to complete the registration procedures is dependent on the country where the application is filed. Certain countries like United States, United Kingdom and Singapore take about six to nine months to get a trademark registered if a trademark application does not face any objections or oppositions. On the other hand, countries like Thailand, Indonesia etc. may take around 24 months to get a trademark registered if a trademark application does not face any objections or oppositions

Questions about trademark rights Is a “trademark registration” valid in other countries? No. Trademark protection is territorial, that is, your rights are confined to the country in which your mark was applied for and registered. Consequently, if you are in the export business, you should register your mark in the countries to which you are exporting your goods to to ensure your trademark rights are protected in other foreign countries as well. What do “ R ” & “TM” mean? ® and TM are common symbols associated with trademarks, although their use is not a requirement and generally provides no special legal protection. The ® symbol is used once the trademark has been registered. The TM symbol denotes that a given sign is used by the holder as a trademark (whether this sign is the subject of a trademark application or not).

McCurry appealed the High Court’s decision in the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal in deciding this case, had considered several issues in this case, involving McCurry‘s presentation of its business was in a style and the get-up distinctively different from McDonald’s. The different getup that McDonald’s consist of a golden arched “M” with the word “McDonald’s” on it. Meanwhile, McCurry‘s signboard carried the words “Restaurant McCurry” with white and grey letters on a red background with the words “Malaysian Chicken Curry”. The Court of Appeal had also considered the types of food sold in McDonald’s outlets and McCurry and noted that the types of food sold in these two businesses are very different. McCurry caters only typical Indian food whereas McDonald’s serves western fast food such as hamburgers. There are also differences in terms of customers that patronised in McCurry and McDonald’s. The Court of Appeal found that there is no confusion and proof of the tort of passing off. McDonald filed an application for leave to the Federal Court. The Federal Court dismissed the McDonald’s application for leave and awarded McCurry cost of RM10,000.00 This case, clearly shown the importance to registering your trademark in all possible variations, especially if the business is referred to by such a name by customers. For example, in this McDonald’s case, McDonald’s did not register Mc as it’s trademark. Hence the

This is an interesting David-vsGoliath case involving the giant of McDonald’s Corporation against a small Indian restaurant based in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. As readers will surely appreciate, McDonald’s is a world-renowned international fast food chain. McCurry Restaurant (KL) Sdn. Bhd. sold Indian food and other Malaysian cuisine under the name and style of “Restaurant McCurry”. McDonald’s brought a legal action at the High Court of Malaya against McCurry for passing off in relation to the usage of the prefix “Mc” alleging that public would wrongly presume McDonald’s is associated with McCurry. McDonald’s won the case in the High Court.

It is a known fact that for passing off action to succeed, the onus is on the plaintiff to prove that the customers must be confused to think that the plaintiff and defendant are associated. If there is no confusion, then there is no passing off. Trademark registration is the quickest and most cost-effective way to ensure legal exclusivity for the use of your name or logo. It also prevents traders from using identical or similar mark. Further, it protects you from infringement claims and that may be a complete defence to you to sue someone who infringes your trade mark.

Case 2: Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) v. Syarikat Faiza Sdn Bhd This is another interesting case involving an Indian food agency (APEDA) against a Malaysian rice distributor. APEDA had filed a legal action against Syarikat Faiza requesting for the cancellation of trademark “Ponni” which was registered as a trademark by Syarikat Faiza in Malaysia by rice. The High Court invoked the traditional concept of confusion and the provisions governing the registrability of a mark to protect the term “Ponni”, which had become synonymous with a particular variety of rice originating from the Cauvery Delta region (which is also known as Ponni Delta) in the southern Indian Peninsula. The High Court had indicated that no one should retain exclusivity over the use of the trademark “Ponni” for rice and revoked the trademark. This case shows the importance of considering various issues before one registers a trademark. It is a requirement under the trademark law that a trademark cannot claim geographical location as a part of the trademark. This is also in contrary with the requirements of the Geographical Indications Act. The Court considered on two provisions in the Act in finding that ponni did not meet the requirements for registrability (namely, it was a descriptive word and not a coined term) and that use of ponni was likely to deceive or cause confusion and, hence, its registration by the respondent should have been prohibited. There was sufficient evidence to show that ponni rice was available for sale and consumption in India, Malaysia and many countries around the world. Ponni rice was recognizable in the trade and among consumers as the name of a variety of rice from the Tamil Nadu region as of the date of the trademark application. For that reason, the High Court judge held that ponni was not a coined word. Instead, he concluded, the word was directly descriptive of a particular variety of rice originating from the Tamil Nadu region of southern India. Hence, registration of ponni under the Act would prevent others from legitimately using it as a descriptor for a particular variety of rice originating from that region. Accordingly, the company’s registered trademark PONNI was expunged and removed from the register. The decision is significant in that it shows the continued relevance of the traditional concept of confusion to the protection of geographical indications.

The Digital Era can be seen as the development of an evolutionary system in which knowledge turnover is not only very high, but also increasingly out of the control of humans, making it a time in which our lives become more difficult to manage. For example, in the second generation Internet, ‘the semantic web’, functionality, which understands meaning, replaces the search function of unknowingly matching words, which often have multiple meanings. In time, within this version of the Internet, software agents will exchange knowledge without human intervention. Equally, our understanding of the knowledge embedded within the human genome about how we relate to the world, generated in association with technology and freely available on the Internet, raises questions about our assumptions of control. Do we know enough about our future to change our genome? Can we control such changes and their diffusion? The social and economic implications of the Digital Era are huge and will increase as technological functionality becomes more knowledge-based, our everyday lives and understanding of ourselves become more linked to it, and it takes on a ‘life’ of its own. Understanding the Digital Era in terms of evolution will help ensure we build sustainable socio-economic relationships both with technology and with the advanced knowledge that technology helps us create.

Did anybody expect for Magazine Newsweek to go totally digital in its production? Most of us really didn’t see that one coming, but after the first of next year, the magazine giant will be available in only a digital format. This is probably a pretty big clue for the rest of us on what to expect in future trends in the world of digital marketing. Even though our world is largely digitally based, it was not always that way and it had a seemingly insignificant start.

The Web 1.0 The digital age as we now know it began with the Internet and the Web 1.0 platforms of the early 1990s. This was a rather static world in which users could get the information they desired but it could not be shared on the web. There was no such thing as interaction, as the only activity was reading of content. In 1993, we saw the entrance of the first clickable banner ad and by the next year, Hotwired, had begun to purchase huge numbers of banner ads. This was really the first step in getting us all shifted over to a new digital age.

New technology began to make its entrance into the digital marketplace after about 1994 and in 1998, Google was founded. Blogger came soon after in 1999. About this time social networking sites began to be birthed and Blackberry had launched their own mobile email program. Myspace was one of the first social sites to arrive on the social scene and Facebook came soon afterward. It did not take too long for companies to realize that these presented them with some excellent opportunities and soon these social sites became new way for businesses to communicate directly with consumers. Businesses began searching for new ways to implement web marketing strategies so that they could capitalize on the new digital platforms. It did not take long for Google to start expanding and improving their internet search engine. Savvy marketers soon learned how to implement search engine optimization strategies in order to improve the ranking of their sites. Google also added options like AdWords and AdSense to marketing potential. It wasn’t long until Google figured out how to analyze content that was entered in a query in order to target users with ads relevant to their interests. Google was not actually the first ones to incorporate targeted ads, but they did help develop algorithms which helped search results become prioritized.

The “Cookie” Advertising networks soon began to develop ways that they could capitalize on some of these new developments and the “cookie” came on the scene. The first cookie was actually developed in an attempt to analyse user’s browsing habits. But since its inception it has evolved into a useful part of the e-commerce sector and allows marketers and businesses ways of collecting literal user data. Amazon still uses this method for targeting its audiences and offering them products based on previous searches. This was a huge impact on the digital marketing world. Enter the Web 2.0 The Web 1.0 slowly evolved into the Web 2.0. In this new digital world, audiences were no longer passively taking in information; but instead, the internet became a sort of super highway where users could directly interact with both other users and businesses. The Web 2.0 became a social world at last. In the early 2000s, numerous networks and social platforms were developed which allowed users to connect and interact. By 2004 we saw the rise of sites like WordPress, LinkedIn and finally Facebook. It was not long before social media became a thriving entity and we saw more sites like Digg, Skype, Flickr, and Gmail all make their appearance. By the end of 2004, internet advertising in the US alone brought in around $2.9 billion. By 2005, YouTube had entered the playing field and now there are more than 3 billion hours spent watching YouTube videos each and every month. In 2007, the iPhone began to change the web one more time and everything began to shift to cater to the mobile user. By 2010, mobile marketing alone brought in approximately $650 million.

What’s Next? It’s very difficult to understand that all these changes have occurred in only 2 decades. Digital marketing has changed drastically, and will continue to change. Web marketing remains an essential part of SEO campaigns and provides numerous tools and strategies. Telemedicine Act 1997 The Telemedicine Act 1997 ensures that only qualified medicalpractitioners can practice telemedicine and that their patient’s rightsand interests are protected. These act provides the futuredevelopment and delivery of healthcare in Malaysia.

Communications And Multimedia Act 1998 The implementation of Communication and Telecommunication Act1998 ensures that information is secure, the network is reliable and the service is affordable all over Malaysia. 3RD NETWORKING SESSION

Our third and final networking session for this year was held on 28th September 2014 at Pearl International Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The event was attended by 50 entrepreneurs both established and aspiring women of different ages and races. Ms Kalaichelvi Ponnambalam, the President of PPUW in her opening address stressed the need to network with each other as well as with other NGOs where business women could capitalize on each other’s strengths and talents. PPUW had invited the Presidents of 4 other NGOs namely WIN, WENA, Peniagawati and Human Resource Development Association. We also had three dynamic speakers who not only imparted with their knowledge on business but also motivated the crowd and to add the hype of the day, each of the business women had an opportunity to present a short introduction of their business. There were also table booths for the participants to showcase their goods and eventfully sell their products. Mobile Commerce Global mobile commerce is growing fast, despite still being somewhat fragmented, complex and full of challenges. Global mobile transactions are averaging 42% annual growth in volume and value between 2011 and 2016, and a market worth $617 billion with 448 million users has been forecasted by 2016. Worldwide mobile payments are predicted to reach $1 trillion by 2017.

A number of key global markets reach an important milestone in mobile device usage. Since 2010, mobile broadband subscriptions, and thereby the adoption of smartphones, have tripled. Especially in developed countries the growth is exponential and lead to a near market saturation point. In developing countries the rise of smartphones and mobile internet is expected to pick up over the coming years as well. Thus, it is moving closer towards a situation where smartphones replace feature phones as the commonly used device around the word.

n 2014, the global smartphone users represent nearly 40% of all the mobile phone users, which means 25% of the global population. By the end 2017, smartphone penetration among mobile phone users will approach 50%. Global mobile commerce levels increased by 31% in the first quarter 2013, boosted by increasing tablet use and improved customer service. Mobile commerce now accounts for 17.4% of total online retail sales, up from 13.3% in the previous year. Overall ecommerce expense was up 20% in the first quarter 2013. Mobile sales are predicted to reach $626 billion by 2018. Tablets play an increasing role in mcommerce growth, as more people use these devices to shop from home. In 2014, 31% of tablet owners and 38% of smartphone owners will make a purchase on their devices.

In the US, mcommerce sales will total $114 billion in 2014. Mcommerce has grown by 23% between 2013 and 2014. Mobile purchases will represent 29% of all online purchases in the US. Tablet transactions will represent two-third of all mobile sales in 2014, reaching $76 billion. Tablet penetration however still lags behind smartphone penetration in the U.S, at roughly 44% compared to over 55%. Asia-Pacific is leading the world in terms of mobile users’ enthusiasm for shopping via mobile device. China has the highest percentage of users who buy products using mobile devices, 69% of Chinese consumers owning a smartphone. As a comparison, only 22% of US smartphone owners use their device to shop online.

Demographics In 2014, there were more than 1.25 billion internet users in Asia, representing around 47.5% of the online population worldwide. This means that 32% of Asia’s population is connected to the internet. Looking into more detail at the big players within Asia when in terms of internet usersit becomes clear that China is still the top internet country within the region, with 591 million of internet users, followed by India, with 213 million, and Japan, with 101 million. Most of the top internet countries within the Asia Pacific region are still in a developing stage, meaning that broadband access is still increasing and there is still massive growth happening within Asia in comparison to other regions such as Europe or the US. However, in January 2014, Asia’s internet penetration of 32% is still 5 percentage point under the world average penetration rate of 37%, indicating room for improvement, which is likely to happen over the upcoming years.

CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT IN ASIA PACIFIC The overall media consumption habits of consumers within the region are continuing to change at a fast pace. Social media is for many consumers an integral part for sharing brand experiences with their friends and family. Online product reviews are influencing heavily on the industry. Consumer are very engaged in Asia Pacific as a region, however, audiences also differ a lot within the region. Therefore, the tourism industry needs to closely monitor developments and aim to identify relevant target groups to target in Southeast Asia, Consumers market brands from Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are engaging online review through social media. Accessing social networks is a big factor for consumer engagement and ranked as a top online activity. Consumers are taking an active online role not only following online discussions but also actively participating. In Vietnam, news reading is an important activity: 90% Internet users read online news in Vietnam and spend 194.8 minutes on this online activity.

ASIA PACIFIC AND MOBILE Half of all global smartphone users are from Asia Pacific, totalling 951 million users. Also, the smartphone penetration is heterogeneous in the region. China is the world leader in terms of smartphone users with 531.7 million. But smartphone penetration in China will only reach 50% by 2018. South Korea has the highest smartphone penetration in the world. The time spent on smartphone is growing. In Southeast Asia, smartphone owners spent three hours a day on their smartphone. Instant messaging apps, games and online video are the principal engaging activities. Also, mobile video is increasing in APAC. In Hong Kong, 53% of the smartphone users viewed a video in the last month, they were 38% in Singapore and 37% in Malaysia. Tablet adoption is also growing in APAC. The region is expected to become the biggest tablet market by 2018, with 108.6 million units sale in 2018. In 2013, 58.5 million tablets have been sold in APAC.

s I have been inspired by undeniable irretrievable issues, as I might have overstated it, are of such grave issues that many of my relatives and even clients sadly had drawn themselves. They, as I would always say, gave me a deeper insight of the need for potent legal service/knowledge to be imparted in every single brain. And that I record herewith, my dear friends, they had never failed to establish before our very own eyes, how important lawyers are! Well, that last sentence was solely meant to justify us, the legal practitioners, for the years of sitting on foot-high pile of books and paper works to give our clients another glimpse of peaceful night while we look into the ways of settling their headaches. Jokes apart! Let’s hit the goal post! Here I am penning down with deep prayers hoping that the readers shall feel the significance of having “anything and everything” under the sun WRITTEN, as we, lawyers, at all times tell anyone we confront coming with a paper (summons) and shouting to us, “ I have been sued!

And might you ask me how I would justify that? It is believed that we, the human beings are the very embodiment of story lovers, for the Creator is His deep meditation is carefully and wonderfully crafting parables for every single being in the Universe. Bringing you back to the interesting case in my legal fraternity. Simple yet surprisingly potent story that believed to whittle your trail to a hassle-free and undisputable business deals. A close friend of ours (myself and my partner) who took up a lease to run his business in one of the nation’s renowned college’s café wherein he was grinning over the successful business that welcomes him with hugging arms. Least he know that he would be neeing a written lease or tenancy agreement in order to support his verbal contracts with the college’s management. Of course fatty throwbacks were given to him wherein nothing was complied and he had to vacate the premise in order to fight back his paid deposit. Unfortunately, our friend did not have anything in writing and had nothing to support his contract made with them. None of the solutions were cogent to soothe the remorse and bad luck stricken friend cum client of ours.

Most common reasons we hear are that the other party is my best buddy and “he is such a nice and trustworthy guy”. Oral contracts can be enforceable but when there are potential debate rooms, one can site up as “did I ever say that”? At the drop of a hat, we can never deny that there are many people out there, even the successful and experienced small business owners, are seem to be rather laid-back about accomplishment of essential agreements in writing. Name it! There are many case studies being gazette in the law journals as lessons to everyone. Many of our mistakes are that we have no idea that we can be jeopardized by our very own potential business prospects that we have contractual relationships. You finally disembarked that much soughtafter client and are ready to get started on the project. Though you are unable to resist to move on with the deal with a handshake, it would be a wise move and perhaps, worthwhile to take the time for your client to sign a written contract. You are getting it wrong only as a binding legal agreement as it also serves as an important point of reference for parties. Why don’t you make it a habit to practice the many aids of a executed document, as that would define the client-consultant relationship and iron out all your terms and conditions in advance. One highlighted to me, “But madam, it is just a matter of 1 year. Least you know the contract will be over. Why should I waste money on paying for the cost and time”. Good for you. Let’s look at the simplest example as a projection of such careless thought or deed. While realizing your business deal or any contracts in papers (written), apply the non-compromising rules: i) it should be stamped , and ii) witnessed. What else do you need to take up as your thumb rule while drafting a business plan:i) Most coherently keep in written, no matter what; ii) Keep it simple and clear; iii) Be pretty sure that parties are identified and spelt out correctly; iv) Agree on the terms and include consideration and alternative dis pute resolutions/mediations/legal claims; v) Specify payment obligations; vi) Though many of my colleagues debate with me that it should be kept confidential, I would rather say atleast inform your spouse and best friend, as they would back you up during stormy days!

Okay, so we know working for your father in the family business might seem less glamorous than being a cog in the big machine but let us look at the pros as well as the cons of working for your father.

It will be personal and down the road people are going to remember you as the person who made strides with your ideas and creativity on a path that many do not or will not take as they would rather contribute to the big machine. That legacy you leave behind will be an accumulation of all your good deeds, your achievements, your trophies and your contributions. Would you not want that contribution for the excellence of your family? So leaving a personal and profound legacy is one of the main advantages of working for your father. But every coin has two faces, as there are advantages. There are also disadvantages to working with your father or family. The most common disadvantage of course is to be accused of nepotism which happens regardless of the effort you have put in in to building the business. Outsiders with barely any knowledge of the business will mindlessly accuse you and your father of promoting nepotism or even people who work within the business might do the same. It is

a) Risk Management. When you rely on someone to provide trading signals or managed account service you need to keep an eye on the risk factor that they use in their trading processes. If someone randomly places a lot of trades into a neverending hedge carrousel, they probably don`t have a good strategy and is more like a gamble, waiting for some trades to close on profit. And this is more dangerous when those trades are not opened with the right lot size. Let`s take an example here: you have a $4,000 currency trading account and the lot size in a trading session is 2 standard lots /pip which means you trade each pip with $20. If the market goes in the opposite direction for only 100 pips, you are already risking 50% of your equity and that is huge! A good risk for a $4000 account would be 0.2 standard lots, which means $2 /pip. With this risk you are safe if a bigger drawdown is happening while you keep making new profits because you have enough additional margin to trade with.

b) Money Management. Someone who is using more than 10% of the whole equity into a trading session is probably not having a good money management strategy because you should always trade safe and also because market may turn back on you and you would find yourself in a big margin problem. With a good risk management, having 2.5% of your account invested, can bring consistent returns with no problems.

c) Profit Rate. Some traders can`t make 10% per year. Others can safely and consistently make 30% per month and they are not afraid to show their verified performance as a solid proof of what they offer. While taking into consideration a proper risk and money management, you should never aim to make millions in one week with a small account because that would probably mean hitting margin call. Just remember: a good strategy and analysis will always bring profits. And if at the end of the month you have only 1% profit, that means you don`t have -1% loses.

d) Service Costs. When you’re considering paying for a service that brings you profits keep in mind a few things. Is it worth to pay anything for it? Does it have solid background and proofs? Does it have honest reviews? All those things are required as a proof of reliability. And if those are provided and you are convinced, do your math. Let`s say the service costs $100 per month. Your $500 account will likely not make even the service costs so it`s useless. If the service made at least 10% per month in the last year, you should know that $1000 accounts will make $100 profits and if the service cost is $100, you will not make any profit. Of course you can always leave the account to grow in order to make more and to pay from your own pocket for a few months and that, in my opinion, is the best strategy for small accounts.
