A WORD FROM

Headquarters Greetings Friends, It is my privilege to briefly share with you what God is doing around the world. I believe the reason there are victories and opportunities to rejoice about is specifically because the work of Mission One Eleven is in direct alignment with God’s purpose: that people from every tribe, tongue, and nation will stand before the Lamb in white robes (Rev. 7:9). However, research shows that there are still people groups today who have not yet had a chance to hear the Gospel and make a personal decision. Mission One Eleven is championing this cause for Christ as we declare the vision, “One Chance for Every Person,” and raise up missionaries who fully commit and dedicate their lives to this effort. For the past few years, our training centers at Canyon Hills, in Bakersfield, California, and at Covina Assembly, in Covina, California, have been successful in training young adults on how to reach unreached people groups. Volunteers who said yes to God’s assignment have traveled to both Ethiopia, and Indonesia. The teams that traveled to Ethiopia traveled deep into the bush to reach the Malle and Kwegu people. Last year we were presented with an opportunity to expand our efforts in a new territory of Indonesia. I traveled to Indonesia for three months in order to establish partnerships and locate tribes for our teams. God continually paved the way by providing local church partnerships and through divine meetings and friendships, it became evident that teams were to go to the Abun tribe of West Papua, Indonesia. Reality struck as our two teams discovered what it takes to truly find a tribe. A seven hour boat ride, three hour canoe ride, and a three days hike through the jungles of West Papua to live among the Abun people. Although malaria and fatigue followed close behind, not one student lost heart. Because of their efforts, many of the Abun tribal people accepted Jesus as their Lord as they heard about Him for the first time. In the spring of 2014, Epic Bible College caught the vision and became the first college to accredit our Core Teaching and overseas trip. While overseas, students who participated taught God’s story to the Mao people. They witnessed signs, wonders, and miracles. Muslims gave their lives to Christ and women were set free from demonic-possessions. A church was planted among the Mao people and is still thriving today. Although, we have seen great accomplishments in the past few years, 2015 has proven to be a pivotal and an exciting one for Mission One Eleven. I am proud to announce that two more training centers will be opening in North America for the fall mission excursions. In Northern California, our long time ministry partners in Brentwood, California will be officially 3 Mission One Eleven

MATT & ALLISON PETRISSANS running their own training center. Also, we now have a campus in Brampton, Canada. In 2016, Mission One Eleven will be offered at Messenger Bible College in Euless, Texas. Their goal is to provide teaching and experience that will catapult their students to full-time ministry. God is is raising up laborers for the harvest! Currently, we are also seeing believers from around the world with the desire to be apart of finishing God’s assignment. This summer, two of our leaders have aided in expanding to countries we have not yet been. Michele Turner, was sent on assignment to Madagascar specifically to train local missionaries in our Core Teaching and Storytelling. Michele has established relationships that will now allow us to send our teams into the unreached areas of Madagascar. Also, Marcus Johnsen, one of our leaders in Sweden, has a heart to reach Muslims. This passion has led him to partner with local Pakistani missionaries. Marcus was able to disciple and minister to these young missionaries via Skype video chat. They have already begun using the training to bring people to Christ, despite the persecution that awaits followers of Christ in their country. This August, Allie and I will be journeying back to Indonesia to further the work that has been started. I am excited to say that the local Indonesian churches are also grasping the vision of “One Chance for Every Person.” We will be preparing the local church so they can partner with Mission One Eleven teams in translating the Gospel to the Kawe and Biga people, tribes located on islands off the coast of West Papua. It has been my pleasure to provide for you a glimpse of what has been happening in Mission One Eleven. My hope is that you are encouraged by what God is doing around the world and that you, if you have not already; join the adventure within God’s Assignment. Sincerely, Matthew Petrissans Executive Director for Mission One Eleven

REMEMBERING OUR FRIEND

HENDRIK by Karl Hargestam

I

met Hendrik “Jonki for the first time in 2006 when he translated at a Gospel Festival that we held in Siantar, Sumatra. He expressed his passion and conviction for soul winning unlike any other pastor I have met. He had been trained to work for MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). This training resulted in us having a unique connection and partnership because aviation has played such a large role in our pioneer missions involvement. His time with the MAF opened his eyes to unreached people groups and the concept of pioneer missions. Years later, when Mission One Eleven prepared to reenter Indonesia and engage the remaining unengaged tribes there, Hendrik became a critical partner and friend. His was tremendously helpful in his partnership with Mission One Eleven, which stemmed from his vast ministry involvement and experience. His ministry developed into not only pastoral ministry, but he began leading the Bethany Foundation that provided covering for many Wycliffe missionaries in Papua. He also became the new Missionary Director for the Indonesia Assemblies of God and had the desire to lead the denomination in the passion for unreached people and missions. Hendrik went to be with the Lord in 2014. Hendrik was an incredible blessing to MOE and will be missed. Sincerely,

DWELLING IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY by Michele Turner Often times, the pathways towards the dreams God has given to us are the most difficult to walk. It has been almost four years since God put the vision to go to Madagascar in my heart. Since then, I have watched seemingly idly as many of my friends have taken huge steps into their callings and begun to fulfill the plans of God for their lives. I felt like God had forgot His Word to me, and that I would be the one kid left sitting in the bleachers rather than playing in the game. Has anyone else ever felt that way? The season got more difficult as I was moved out of a position of “going,” and into a place of “staying.” I had to fix my focus. I had to become settled. Not settled in the place of “staying,” but settled in the shadow of the Almighty. There’s a place we have to find along the journey- a place where we decide that we will place our trust in God to fulfill the plan. It’s God’s job to make things happen, it’s our job to be obedient, no matter the season we are in.

WHERE ARE WE NOW? One Chance for Every Person

STORY FROM Marcus Johnsen

We believe

that the gospel has no chains, barriers, or walls too high to climb and Mission One Eleven is willing to go wherever God wants to send us. But this year, we tried something new. Marcus Johnsen, a Mission One Eleven leader in Sweden, has a pastor friend in Pakistan. For quite some time, Marcus was asked to travel to Pakistan and preach the gospel.

TThis Pakistani pastor truly liked the notion of using Storytelling to reach unreached tribes. As Marcus and his friend were talking one day, it suddenly occurred to them that they could provide the Mission One Eleven training through Skype. When they prayed about the opportunity, they sincerely felt that God was leading them to set up this resource. After many discussions and some weeks later, Marcus’ pastor friend gathered 47 students for a summer Mission One Eleven training center. “I was a little nervous,” said Marcus, “because the internet was not so good.” As they began with the training, they found that the students were very eager to go out with the gospel to the unreached, despite witnessing Christians being burnt alive and killed on a daily basis. “Their hunger and passion for people to come to salvation really touched my heart deeply,” Marcus replied. Every morning at 6am, due to the time difference, Marcus would call and begin to teach the class for one hour before he went to work. He would speak to the pastor and then the pastor would translate to the class, and it worked! “It was really fun to do it,” Marcus mentioned. “The best part was to pray with them and listen to them telling stories in Urdu.” Urdu is the main language spoken in Pakistan. The class really loved their Storytelling training and said it gave them a good tool to reach out to people whom have never heard the gospel. During the 2 months that the training was in progress, the students prayed with over 300 people who gave their hearts to Jesus. God is amazing! Now more Pakistani pastors would like to do the training within their own churches. Will you pray with us for God to make it happen?

You could see them processing the truth we shared!

INDONESIA From Kelly Stewart “We will remember what you have told us and we will tell it to our children and their children.” These are the words that were shared by a leader from the Abun tribe in West Papua, Indonesia. It was our last night in our first village, Krisnos, and a message that continued in the other two villages. This was a time to rejoice and remember how far we had come. The locals said it would take us five hours to reach Krisnos. The journey took close to eight hours and we cut through some of the most dense jungle I have ever seen. The air was thick with humidity and the sweat kept pouring out as if I had been submerged in the nearby river. We followed narrow foot paths, crossed over gaps on bridges made of thin tree trunks and waded through rivers. I kept one foot in front of the other and we entered into the village in pouring rain. I must have been a sight to see as I was covered in mud but no condition could steal my joy. After six weeks of preparation we were here. The Abun had heard of Jesus but really had no gospel foundation. As we shared the stories and answered their questions God began to open my eyes. Not only is there a need to speak of Jesus where He has not been named but a need for discipleship as well. I always knew about that step but I never truly saw how great the need was until that day. I watched the people as each one of the team shared the stories and 9 Mission One Eleven

they were intently listening. You could see them processing the truth we shared. They were on the edge of the seat as we presented the drama of Abraham and Isaac. They were somber as Jesus was arrested and killed. The people clapped with beaming smiles when Jesus appeared to the disciples. I was changed by my time with the Abun. Their hunger for the truth made me value the Word of God like I don’t believe I ever have. It is easy for us to undermine the insight God has given us and yet it is not just given for our growth. God has invested in us so that we can invest in others. My heart began to burn for others to have that solid foundation in the Lord that cannot be shaken. It is a burden not just for the Abun but for everyone and I know I am not the only one with that fire. I believe that Lord desires to give that flame to everyone. It is a fire for those who do not understand to hear and know the truth of God’s Word. This fire is the heart of God and it calls out to all who would answer. It calls out with no guaranteed picture of where you will go or who you will meet. People may say you are crazy or ask if it is worth it. Is it worth all this discomfort? All this ran through my head as that leader spoke that night and with sweat running down my face I smiled. Yes, it is always worth it. .

HISTORY MAKERS OR WE WILL LIVE COMFORTABLY IN CAPTIVITY?

Sometimes we choose favor in captivity rather than choosing God’s assignment for our lives. In the book of Ezra, God called His people, in the midst of captivity, to fulfill the great assignment of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. King Cyrus shared that God appointed him and all who considered themselves to belong to the Lord to go and build the temple (Ezra 1:3). The Lord made it very clear that anyone who was His child was qualified to participate. When we take this concept and apply it to the church’s new covenant assignment: go and make disciples of all nations, it is oftentimes difficult to understand why more people do not say yes to this call of God. As you continue reading the story in Ezra, Scripture states that about 42,000 people initially said yes and obeyed God’s call (Ezra 2:64). Scholarly opinions differ on exactly how many people came out of Egypt prior to this, but it was approximately three million people. Included in that large number, some people died in the desert, some were killed, and some were taken to continue living in captivity. It is fair to observe that God’s people may have asked themselves, “What is there for me in Jerusalem? How am I going to survive? What if it is dangerous and difficult?” The choice to respond to the call was not abandon God or not, but rather the temptation to choose favor in captivity over God’s call. This is one of the greatest challenges for even the church today. The blessings of our culture can sometimes cause us to be so comfortable with our good and stable lives that we miss God’s call. Our assignment was given 2,000 years ago: to build God’s house by preaching the gospel to every person. We are living stones that fit together, with Jesus as the chief cornerstone. However, God’s house will not be complete until every tribe, tongue, people, and nation is reached and represented in the blood-washed church of Jesus Christ. The Lord has commissioned His people to change the world for His glory. People that connect with their assignment are the people that change history.
