Hanaya Jones Family Day Everyone said hey We all enjoyed the occasion then went our way I was so glad to be with them, I didn’t know what to say While we were on the bus we prayed When we got to the park we didn’t even have to pay We been planning this day since May. Every other family that was there, “K!”

Anno Clerveaux Anno, a football player I am Anno the football player The only thing that makes me, Anno, happy is football I play when I’m bored and I play it when I’m mad. I even play it when I’m sick and also when I feel bad. Because I’m Anno. When I play football It relieves my stress And sends me home to rest I take showers when I get home after I play and sleep and get ready for practice the next day. Football is fun, football rules. I play it all the time And think You should play it too.

Shewaye Charles Observant I see everything I hear everything Even when you think I might Not be watching or listening, trust me, I know. But some times seeing and hearing everything could be scary or make you want to cry It can hurt you for maybe a minute, hour or a day or maybe your whole life Have you ever seen someone you loved cheat or hear a family had died or even maybe seen a person get murdered in front of you?

John Abraham John I’m so funny, Kevin Hart #2 I’m not only funny, but Im friendly too. I am nice, I mostly hype I am John, that funny guy type chilling in the crib, in the house On the couch, you know me, watching Verizon TV, I’m laid back, stress-free and relaxed open up your ears cuz I could rap, that’s true so it’s a fact, don’t turn away, don’t turnback. Always thirsty I need a bev, lets go back put this rap in reverse, I told you I’m funny Did you know I like money? I always came first, I never came last! Only a few times, but that was in the past, I’m jiggling up, just like J-E-L-L-O keep shooting three’s like I’m Carmelo.

Victoria Myrie Female vs. Female Geesh, being a female is tough “It’s a man’s world” my crack Us females have it bad Labor, heartbreaks and life itself! Nobody understands us but us. The big breast and fat “junk,” don’t make You a bad (you know what) Education and respect makes your successful All the fake this and that, what happened to natural beauty and the intelligence of a women. Wow, don’t get me wrong, some women make men do the (ISH!) they do! Lie, cheat or leave “O-M-G, he left his no good cheating-self behind!” “Chick! Shut up!” You eating up all his money and spending it on your Brazilian and Malaysian Going to the club, leaving your kids at ya Mumma’s house! Wasting your child support check on Yourself instead of your kids! What happened to the females that woke up at 6:00 a.m. and coming home at 9:00 or later. Women had to work, not twerk.

Hadarah World-lee Afraid Afraid, Afraid, Afraid Afraid of love Afraid of hurt Afraid of what might happen if I fall in the dirt Afraid to try Afraid to die because I want to live my life high.

Tatyana Clarke Fashion I see different types of styles Each has it’s own value That fits each personality Rock, Gothic, Neutral, Black is all that Fashion is mysterious, its hard to figure out, fashion is unique That’s what its all about Fashion to me is life itself. It explains me physically instead of verbally.

7

Adonis Barnett Like Honey I am funny, and I like honey, my Mother bought me a bunny, and then I told her to give me some money and then she was like sorry honey. I am humble, my Mom screaming from the sidelines “Don’t Fumble!”

8

Asa Francis Traits No matter what sport it is I am always willing to play This shows you that I am athletic all the way I will never give up No matter how far I have to go Even in the rain Even in the snow This trait can pass the test To show I’m determined to do the very best This last one may not be the best Telling a lie can put you to death I only do it for your feelings This would break us to pieces

9

Marquise Haubourg Untitled I am creative. I make new things and brainstorm ideas. My Ideas never fail because I put a lot of effort into it. I don’t like losing because all I do is win. Up next I’m persuasive, I convince people to do what they don’t want to do. So that’s how I am the leader of my crew. People say I’m caring, because I’m really always sharing. I put people before me.

10

Leylande Frank Untitled I am caring, creative and confused Thoughts going through my mind of Who I am and who I am going to be. Creativity is like a river of ideas just Waiting to be explored, a way to express Who you are I am sarcastic, stubborn and loyal. Loyal to my friends, loyal to my Family. I’m a stubborn person that likes To do what I want.

Anne-Isabelle Ponyon The Reader The reader in me is an explorer. Can read from a, b, c, d, through z. Non-fiction, fantasies, biography, History. It’s all a maze to me. Knowing all but not enough. Believing that you could do anything but in reality not doing anything. Rather be at the Bottom of the well than at the top. Now black African-Americans are put To the side. Getting shot, gang business, like this is not what our ancestors created for us to be black is nothing like that It’s hard for us today, we have to Work hard to get what we want But we’re still keeping our race.

Genevieve Pierre Charles The Four-Eyed Champion Full of knowledge and insight from a proud people of dark skin connected to my past, ready for my future intelligent, inquisitive, observative, analytical, that’s me looking to explore a world full of the unknown, my thirst for knowledge cannot be satisfied by tiny droplets of insignificant words it cannot be quenched by gulps of smalls volumes of letters not even novels of the highest degree could stop me from searching for the answers to everything. I’m a foureyed champion with big hopes and dreams, aspirations you wouldn’t believe limitations are the stop signs of our generation, expectations hold us back from innovation the creation of myself is one I often wonder about my purpose is unseen in a world full of possibilities dreams as small as the palm of my hand grow to be as limitless as the sky, my dreams are the answers to the question, “why?” I am a reader, writer, thinker, for life.

Kavari Hercules Power Power stays within you sometimes Someone else’s power may overpower you. It may refrain you from just being you. We sit here, try to make sure everyone feels you. While it silently kills you. Just. Be. You. Find the power. Sometimes finding the power is the problem. Finding power is a long term journey that will make you sad sometimes you will feel like an irrelevant blob. It is difficult to untap yourself from the lies, the front. Outside you silently cry while inside you violently die. It may take you a while, but find The power to express you and your style. Your personality should fit inside a Manila folder. You should always try To innovate, never imitate the Portrayal of someone else. You are You but there is only a few that fit Into your shoes. Everyone is obsessed (with) being cool but remember to just be you.

Ana’Shay Straw Conceited Pretty Mirror looker Fashion Make-up/wake up to look good They say I’m conceited I’m beautiful Independent and calm With a bad spicy attitude I call it flawless! Confident is what I call myself I love myself inside and out I’m an independent girl “yes” that’s what, call me “cocky” It me before anyone else I come first.

Jahliek Sutton Rebel* The tale of a darker brother snatched away from his Mama place inside a living hell to dwell in the darkness desperately seeking his birthright. Did you hear the rebel in his skin next to kind full of dead cells? Til’ his very last breath. With his eyes bugged out placed at the bottom of the well. Did you hear the rebel in his skin next to kin full of dead cells? Did you, the rebel scream next to kin with deferred dreams? Go ahead brother, put him in his Sunday best, he’ll Awake and resuscitate a planet of apes. I fear In the coming years of the oppressor. Did you hear the rebel in his skin next to kin full of dead cells? What happens when colored faces catch chronic cases of belief the common man, with common agenda all for one and then you’ll hear the rebel.

* Inspired by the original poem, “Dead Cells” by Sa’eed Ali
