OneMind Dogs method makes sense to dogs!

TABLE OF CONTENTS Foreword Front Cross False Turn Running On The Dog’s Line Sequence Training

Version: Metric system / Metres

FOREWORD:

HOW TO MASTER A DOG AGILITY HANDLING TECHNIQUE? The road from starting to learn a new handling technique to actually applying it on the course can feel long and tricky. Follow these steps and you’ll be using the technique on a course in no time! These exercises help you to develop different handling techniques and the ability to find many handling options in one sequence. You will also practice the application of a variety of OneMind Dogs handling techniques consecutively. When you and your dog can perform all of the handling techniques correctly, you can compare how different line and technique choices affect your course time.

TECHNIQUE TRAINING – FROM ONE JUMP TO A FULL COURSE Watch the technique training video of the technique you want to practice. You can find the list of all handling techniques here. Practice the mechanical performance of the technique by yourself first. Think about how each handling element works and focus on your footwork. Practice the execution of the technique first with a “human dog”: ask your friend to be your dog, and see if your handling makes sense. Switch roles to see what the handling looks like for your dog. Practice the teaching phases with your dog by following the instructions on the video. Pay close attention to the way the dog should be rewarded at each stage. Practice the technique equally on both sides. If you run into problems, watch the troubleshooting section at the end of the video.

SEQUENCE TRAINING

SEQUENCE 7 - SEQUENCE TRAINING Simple sequences with just a few jumps and a couple of tunnels are the best way to practice applying handling techniques on a dog agility course and to see how the combination of the Three Cs - Connect, Commit, Cue - actually work. Try this exercise and find out which handling option works best for you and your dog!

TIPS FOR THE EXERCISE You can find the course map for this exercise on the next page! If you have just started to practice these handling techniques, you might want to start by watching the videos of each of the handling techniques in the sequence. Here are a few tips for your training session: Try to imagine the ideal lines for your dog. Practice each sequence thoroughly with your virtual dog before bringing the actual dog into training. Before you start practicing with your dog, always think about how and where you are going to reward him. Can you reward from your hand in this part of the sequence, can you pre-place a reward somewhere or do you need an assistant? When you practice with your dog, split the sequence into smaller sections first and combine them only when you can handle each section smoothly on its own. Practice one new thing at a time, don’t combine too many new things in one sequence. Don’t forget to have fun and reward your dog! By following the OneMind Dogs method courses you will know everything you need to know about understanding agility from your dog’s perspective, how to use the seven elements of handling and what skills you and your dog need to be amazing in agility.
