Sean Mcleod grew up in Johannesburg with photography and all its wonder. Despite an early-developed awareness and love for taking pictures, he only began taking photography more seriously about three years ago when he purchased his first digital SLR camera. Fuelled by a passion for continuously capturing and collecting still images, Sean is a self-taught photographer – learning the art purely by taking many photographs and experimenting while doing so. For Sean, capturing the image is just the first step in a creative process and digital processing always forms part of the workflow – whether it’s simply converting to black and white, or layering multiple photographs and textures. He doesn’t particularly have a favourite subject or style, and rather prefers to capture whatever interests him, as well as playing around with different methods and tools. Most of his inspiration comes from looking through other people’s photographs and art that he discovers in various magazines and books, and more extensively by browsing online photographic publications and sites, which offer a never-ending flow of fresh and exciting soul food. Currently, photography is a creative escape from the daily grind for Sean, and remains a passion he hopes to take to the next level.
