I am Hylton Warburton, and I am an illustrator and designer based in Durban (aka Dirtbin), South Africa. After studying graphic design at DUT, I plunged into the design world, doing any and every job I could find. My days are spent doing the corporate stuff for a local agency, while moonlighting as an illustrator. As an illustrator, I am influenced a lot by my surroundings. People, music (one of my other passions), social situations, relationships, faith, the international art scene, and the diverse and vibrant local art scene that is unique to South Africa are the things that drive the work that I do. I believe in South African art, and want to be a part of it. A lot of my work is character-based, as I love to play with the characters’ expressions and emotions, giving them both dark and playful characteristics, and my work has been described as having a ‘Tim Burtonesque’ feel to it. Out of the many dreams I have, the biggest is to become a published children’s book author/illustrator.
