As an artist, I also recognize how difficult it is to blow the shofar, and even though it is sometimes excruciating to be present at a moment during which the shofar blower has difficulty getting the sound out - I find it a harrowing reminder of how hard our own process of internal reflection is. Will we be able to do it this year?
HERE FOR REMEMBERING This holiday is called the Day of Remembering. This is a very deceptive name. It’s easy to think of it as the traditional old-fashioned image of God sitting in the sky, remembering what we did or didn’t do, and judging the world. However, it definitely isn’t God who needs to do the remembering. It’s us who need at least an annual reminder of why we are doing what we are doing. A reminder of the beauty of our world and our community, and of the fragility of everything around us.
