RITUAL T H E

A P P R O A C H
Every week Shabbat dinner offers a chance to take a break and be fully present. Ritual and blessings might help carve out a moment to connect with yourself and others. LIGHT Strike a match, create light, take a breath and enjoy the moment.
On Shabbat, the light within everyone and everything is revealed. We need only the will to see it. Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha’olam asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav vitzivanu l’hadlik ner shel Shabbat.
Blessed are You, Infinite One, who makes us holy through our actions and honors us with the light of Shabbat.
SANCTIFY How do you let go of the week that was? Let wine or juice do the work. Raise your glass and sanctify Friday night with a blessing and a toast. Here’s to you, to all you do, to Friday night. L’chaim!
All of creation becomes closer on Shabbat. That movement begins with Kiddush. Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha’olam borei p’ri ha’gafen. Blessed are You, Infinite One, creator of the fruit of the vine.
Baruch Atah Adonai m’kadesh ha’Shabbat. Blessed are You, Infinite One, who sanctifies Shabbat.

CLEANSE This isn’t about soap and water, this is about welcoming Shabbat with open hands and an open heart.
Through the power of ritual, the hands become a channel of spiritual force. Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha’olam asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav vitzivanu al netilat yadayim.
Blessed are You, Infinite One, who makes us holy through our actions and honors us as we raise up our hands.
NOURISH Slow down, savor good food. More than satisfying hunger, challah truly nourishes.
Challah is one of the three things for which the world was created. Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech ha’olam ha’motzi lechem min ha’aretz.
Blessed are You, Infinite One, who brings forth bread from the earth.
APPRECIATE You made it through another week — give thanks to your community, your colleagues, your friends, your family.
When you eat and are satisfied, bless. Brich rachamana malka d’alma marei d’hai pita.
We are blessed with compassion by You, Infinite One, who sustains us with bread.
