• Understand our clear purpose for teaching and learning at ASP – preparing every student to achieve personal and academic excellence.
• Feel confident that your children will greet their first day of school with enthusiasm and quickly set aside any normal fears or concerns about their new learning home.
• Understand our commitment to a personalized approach in addressing the educational needs of each individual student. • Experience first hand our aspiration to work closely with you. We believe that a strong relationship between home and school makes all the difference for learning and good citizenship.
• Know that we are here to help everyone in your family make a strong beginning at ASP and within the Paris region. We have many resources available to you and your questions are always welcome.

ASP Welcome Program At ASP we understand what it is to be new… everyone here was once new!
Every year we welcome more than a hundred new families to our school. We have developed an extensive Orientation and Welcome Program to help them find their footing, make new friends and feel right at home. Our program is designed to make your integration into the ASP and Paris communities as quick and smooth as possible. From the online resource center, buddy program and Parent Welcome Cocktail parties to Living Skills seminars and our Community Connections Fair, our goal is to help.
Upper School Placement Testing
Thursday, August 23 12:45 pm Performing Arts Center (PAC) In order to ensure that the Upper School students are properly placed in classes, they will need to take an oral test in French and Spanish and a written test in mathematics. New students who have not already taken the online tests should plan on taking the tests on this day. The students should not be overly anxious about these tests; they are given in order to help place students into the levels that are appropriately challenging. And of course, parents are welcome to stay and meet current ASP parents and other new families at our informal “coffee house” and learn more about ASP resources.
5
Orientation Day Monday, August 27 8:00 am ASP Gym
This special day is mandatory for all new families. Scores of current ASP parents will be on hand to welcome you and help you and your children discover what the year ahead at ASP holds. Starting with check-in, you will receive your Registration Packet and be able to complete any outstanding paperwork. The children will then be directed to their classrooms while parents will be invited to attend a special presentation for each division (refer to page 3 for program details). Orientation Day is an exciting moment for the students to see the campus more fully, meet their teachers and some of their new classmates. This is their first real introduction to the school! Parents will be able to collect their pre-prepared security ID badges, car stickers (if car details are known ahead of time) and the student cards which serve as bus, library and cafeteria cards. Orientation Day is also a good opportunity to be introduced to all the groups of the Parent Faculty Association and find out how you can get involved. At the end of a busy morning, all new families are invited to enjoy a relaxing moment at our BBQ lunch on the cafeteria terrace.
Community Connections Fair Thursday, September 6 9:00 – 11:00 am ASP Gym
This is a great venue to discover the many English-speaking resources and services available in and around Paris. There will be more than 50 groups and organizations set up in the ASP GYM for you to visit. Groups attending the fair include local language schools, clubs, cooking schools, religious and service institutions, publications, health and beauty services, IT support, banking and much more. In addition, PFA representatives will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions that you may have.
Upper School Community Picnic
Saturday, September 8 5:00 – 9:00 pm Cafeteria Terrace
All our Upper School families are invited to hang out, listen to music from our students and faculty, play sports and enjoy a casual meal. The picnic is a chance for the teenagers to get to know one another and the parents to relax in the sun and get to know faculty and other ASP families.
Living Skills Seminars Tuesday, September 11 9:00 am – 12:30 pm “Food & Shopping” Thursday, September 13 9:00 am – 12:30 pm “French Healthcare” Tuesday, September 18 8:30 am – 12:30 pm “Getting Around in Paris” Tuesday, September 18 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm “Lunch with New Friends” At these information sessions, you will get tips and useful information related to living in France. From the Head of School Dear ASP Student and Parents, Our school is flourishing, and all the more because you and your family have joined us in the grand adventure of 21st century learning. The American School of Paris is a remarkable school, nearing 70 years of excellence in college preparatory teaching and learning. Spending any amount of time with us at ASP – be it one, two or twelve years – becomes a lifetime experience built on the strength of relationships among students, parents and highly-skilled teachers. High expectations for each student’s learning are matched by an environment of caring and support. We are all part of a new age where both exciting possibilities and unsettling questions exist. In response, our students must develop adaptable skills today to greet the jobs, opportunities, uncertainties and technology that await them tomorrow. We want our young people to have all the tools to get to the future and to thrive. Our ideas and decisions on how we engage students in learning are measured against our ASP mission– and you expect and deserve a school with strong direction. We emphasize traditional knowledge and skills, yet ensure new fluencies for critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, responsible global citizenship and communicating in multiple languages. Our students become whole-minded thinkers who are flexible in working analytically, creatively and compassionately – and are people of uncompromising character.
7
As we actively imagine our school’s future together, we point to the value of our freshly minted strategic plan. Our ambitious blueprint for action looks beyond the present to a future where we ensure a broadly diversified education and excellence in teaching. The backdrop is an environment of heightened expectations within a dynamic curriculum for learning, facilities, technology and resources to engage our young people intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically. We are proud to be a founding school of the International Baccalaureate and are one of the few international schools in the world that also offers Advanced Placement coursework– so a rigorous curriculum and the wholeness of learning are dominant in the DNA of our school. We are delighted to open our doors to your family for the 20122013 school year. We are a school very much on the move and our mandate is to respond with thoughtful and innovative change and ensure every student of ours achieves personal and academic excellence. The days and years ahead hold remarkable possibilities for teaching and learning–especially now that you are here with us. All Good Wishes. Mark E. Ulfers Head of School

Bienvenue from the Board Dear Parents, Students, Faculty and Staff, Welcome to ASP and to the start of the 2012-13 school year. If you are new, please remember that we have all been new once and understand that change can be challenging. As you start the school year, many of your impressions will be based on comparisons to another school, friends, favorite teachers or different places you many have lived. Comparisons are an important part of any transition and we encourage you to use those comparisons constructively. Please help us as a school to reaffirm what we are doing well and, with your fresh perspective, to look at areas to improve. Take time to get involved. Staff, faculty, students and parents are looking forward to doing all that they can to help you feel at home here and to make the transition as easy as possible. As in many other schools, the Board of Trustees is responsible for the long-term viability of the school, strategic and finance oversight and governance. We work in partnership with the Head of School to ensure that resources are allocated and used optimally and that programs continue to develop and serve the needs of the ASP community. ASP is in the second year of implementation of a 5-year strategic plan and we are looking forward to a campus refurbishment plan inclusive of a fundraising campaign to help ensure the work can be carried out as soon as possible. You will be hearing about the progress of these projects throughout the school year as well as at an information evening in November. The Board is currently composed of a group of trustees that includes current ASP parents, former parents and alumni. A cross section of skills and experience are represented and we are all volunteers. The standing committees currently are Finance, Advancement, Facilities, Education and Trustees. As a self perpetuating Board, we are often looking for new members to be in involved on committees, so please be in touch if you would like to know more. On behalf of the entire Board, we look forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you in person to ASP. All the best,
Lis Seeley President of the Board of Trustees 2012-13 board@asparis.fr

What is Advancement at ASP? We get this question often, so we’ll explain! “Advancement” is a word that can be defined in several ways, but one thing is consistent – it’s about moving forward. At ASP, we’re all about looking ahead! As you settle into life at ASP, you will hear people talking about our 5-Year Strategic Plan and our campus development project. You will see teachers walking around with iPads and discussing the “future of learning”. Your children will experience once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunities on a regular basis. These are just a few examples of ways we stay ahead of the curve at ASP.
As a new parent last year, it was great to discover all the ways I could get involved at ASP, and I jumped right in. I’m looking forward to another fun-filled year supporting our ASP students and faculty alongside my fellow parent volunteers. Welcome! – Radhika Bhandari, 2013 Gala Auction Committee Chair & PFA Volunteer
Connecting our Community Whether you’re here for two or ten years, we’re here to help you be an active community member while you’re in Paris and after you depart. We organize many activities thourghout the year. At the moment, we’re working closely with Admissions and the Parent Faculty Association (PFA) to organize the Welcome Program. In November, we promote the annual appeal – a global initiative inviting everyone to make a gift to support our ASP students and faculty. In January, we collaborate with the Board of Trustees to organize our Bonne Année community cocktail. Also, please save the date for ASP’s Belle Epoque Gala on April 13, 2013!
ASP’s Advancement Office Getting Involved We’re here to help you find your “role” at ASP — and feel good about it! In the upcoming year, you’ll hear from Advancement about: Volunteering – Interested in lending your time or skills to benefit ASP? Kim Sheehey, our Community & Alumni Coordinator, works closely with our PFA and parent volunteers to find the right “fit” for each person. You can reach her at ksheehey@asparis.fr or 01 41 12 83 54. Giving – Each year the ASP community is invited to support our students and faculty by giving to the Excellence Fund. This unique and valuable resource allows us to respond to immediate opportunities throughout the school year and is invested in: • Technology for learning • Innovative educational programming • Professional learning opportunities In November, our entire ASP community will be invited to make a gift to our 2012-13 appeal, and all funds from ASP’s Belle Époque Gala in April will also benefit our Excellence Fund.
How many schools can say they have something like the Excellence Fund? Zero. I’m proud of ASP for developing something that allows us to constantly innovate and enhance our teaching at ASP. I’m happy to say I’m a donor and I’m thankful to all the parents who support me and our students by giving to the Excellence Fund! – Chris Friendly, Upper School Social Studies Teacher

On behalf of the Advancement team, welcome to the American School of Paris for the 2012-2013 School Year!
It’s important for us to gather together as a community to celebrate our accomplishments throughout the year. We hope to see you at the Parent Welcome Cocktails this fall — you can come to one or several! Please also mark your calendar for our Bonne Année — a complimentary community event sponsored by our Board of Trustees for all parents, faculty and staff – on January 19, 2013. And don’t forget our Belle Époque Gala in April, an evening filled with dancing and revelry!

Getting To Know You In the same way that we organize an extensive Welcome Program for ASP families and parents, we also organize trips at the start of the year with the main objective of getting new ASP students integrated as quickly as possible. All Middle School grades undertake a week’s trip – either here in France, in the French Alps of Savoie (Grade 6), or in the British Lake District with Outward Bound (Grades 7 & 8). The longer trips for Middle School create an amazing first impression for everyone! Our Middle Schoolers spend a week working within their assigned groups of 12-14 students. The goal is for each group, along with its ASP Advisor, to gel and for the students to develop a sense of trust, friendship, cooperation and good spirit.
The longer trips for Middle School create an amazing first impression for everyone! They go through a series of challenging outdoor activities including a gorge walk, high-ropes course, tunneling, canoeing, rock-climbing and an overnight expedition in the mountains. Only by working together can the group succeed, and through the de-briefing sessions that follow the activities, they grow to understand each individual’s strengths and weaknesses. Importantly, they also learn to respect and listen to each other. It’s a lot of time to take out of the academic schedule, but the teachers would tell you that especially for students of middle-school age, the benefit is tremendous. It builds a foundation for cooperative learning that will carry on throughout the year. It creates a pool of shared memories which are still reference points in June. After our week together, there are no longer any new students in the Middle School!
“I made so many new friends.”
11
In Upper School, a special Upper School Activity Day is organized at ASP in early September. The students will be involved in a range of activities to help them learn more about the school and its expectations as well as get to know and form new friendships with other upper schoolers. More information about the program will be communicated at the start of the school year.
“We really learned to work as a team.”
Parent Faculty Association What is the PFA? The PFA, or Parent Faculty Association, is an organization run by the parents to enrich and support everyday life at ASP by offering additional activities, community events and volunteer opportunities for parents at the school. Many of these activities also provide a wonderful platform for student groups to perform in front of an audience, engage in the broader community and raise awareness and funds for their service projects.
Dear American School of Paris Community, On behalf of the ASP Parent Faculty Association, welcome to the start of another exciting school year. For our children, it’s the anticipation of new teachers and friends. For the parents, it’s the start of a year filled with many possibilities. If you are new to Paris, to ASP or a returning family, this is the time to meet new friends, reconnect with old ones and hopefully participate in many of the exciting opportunities sponsored by our ASP PFA. As we get closer to the first day of school, things may seem a little overwhelming especially if you are just arriving. Don’t worry, this is normal and we have all experienced it at some point. We have an amazing group of parent volunteers who have a wealth of knowledge ready to be shared. You will see in these next pages the many resources, groups and events taking place throughout the school year. Have a wonderful school year and we look forward to meeting you soon. Theresa Schott ASP PFA President 2012-2013 For contact information, please visit our PFA webpage: www.asparis.org/pfa
At the beginning of the school year, there are several events you will definitely want to attend: Community Connections Fair on September 6 from 9 am to 11 am in the ASP Gym. This is your chance to discover the many English speaking service providers, groups and organizations in and around Paris. Living Skills Seminars on September 11, 13 and 18 from 9 am to 12:30 pm in the ASP Performing Arts Center. These PFA sponsored seminars will help you with adjusting to life in France. Subjects covered include health care, transportation and shopping. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new and current ASP Families and have many of your questions answered. PFA Welcome Meeting on Monday, September 17 from 9 am to 10:30 am in the LS Cafeteria. What makes ASP such a successful school and incredible community is the involvement and support from our parents. Each family is automatically a member of the PFA and we encourage you to attend our monthly PFA meetings. We have many events planned throughout the school year and invite you to come see all the ways you can become involved!
Here are some of the PFA volunteer resources available to you: Grade Liaisons – For each grade level, these parent volunteers are a point of contact and a communication link between the school and parents. Throughout the year, parents will receive email updates from Grade Liaisons regarding activities, events and volunteer opportunities. Neighborhood Liaisons – Representing most locations in Paris and the surrounding suburbs, these parent volunteers are a great resource for information about your new neighborhood or a neighborhood you might be considering. International Liaisons – As we are a multi-national community, you may want to get in touch with parent volunteers from your home country or be able to ask questions in your “mother tongue”. International Liaisons are there to help. (See page 15)

Practical Resources If you are new to Paris and your French is not quite up to par yet, do not despair, there are plenty of easy to use and easily available English language resources on the web. And if you are still living out of packing cases and don’t have access to internet just yet, you are welcome to use the computers in both the ASP libraries. ASP Marché is an online service for the ASP community to help match up buyers and sellers. www.asparis.org/asparismarche And that is not where it stops… You can also post apartments to rent, or holiday homes for swaps. This is truly a marketplace! The Community Bulletin Board, located in the reception lobby, offers a similar service in addition to advertisements from the broader community.
PFA Activities The following describe some of our activities and the involvement of some of our groups: Community Room You will always find a warm welcome in this bright room which serves as the HQ for the Parent Faculty Association. The Community Room is located in Building 6. In addition to being a meeting place for ASP parents, the Community Room is also the place where you can: • Buy logowear to support our athletic teams. • Buy second-hand English language books – for youth and adults. • Access a computer and the internet using the PFA community computer. Friends of the Arts This group supports the drama, fine art and music departments by assisting with events and programs. They raise funds to help support post concert receptions, drama and musical productions, student art exhibits, the IB film festival, MS Honor Band festival. The funds may also be used to replace musical equipment and sponsor the “Diane Flaum/Bev Price” arts scholarship. Friends of the Library Friends of the Library support the two school libraries. One of their initiatives is a program called “Celebration Book Club” which invites families to commemorate a school year at ASP or a birthday or another special occasion by making a donation to the ASP library. With the donation, the library will purchase a new book in honor of your child and include a dedication in your child’s name on the inside cover. The group also raises funds to support author visits, guest visits and computer software or programs. Sports Boosters Our Sports Boosters bring a lot of spirit to ASP! They support the athletic programs by raising funds through the sale of ASP logowear and food concessions at tournaments. They also work with the Athletic Department to coordinate the Saturday sports program for ASP’s Lower and Middle School students. Family Links Welcoming new families to our ASP community is a top PFA priority. We understand what it is like to move not only to a new school, but also to a new country. The brand new “ASP Family Links” program aims to match new families with current ASP families who are happy to share their knowledge about the school and Paris, and to help make the transition a little bit easier and as enjoyable as possible for our newcomers. Please contact Andrea Richardson at pfavolunteers@asparis.fr for additional information. Senior Parents Senior year is a momentous event for the future graduates AND their parents! The Senior Parents group helps plan special activities every year to keep our hard-working seniors sane and to celebrate their special year. They do this by raising funds with champagne sales and other fundraisers. They coordinate graduation announcements, monthly treats, senior t-shirts, help organize the prom, award luncheon, graduation dinner, class gift and senior directory.

ASP Sports Program ASP offers its students a comprehensive range of extra-curricular sporting experiences within the framework of an interscholastic program. The year is divided into three seasons with the following sports offered at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School levels. Eligibility: • Students in grades 8-12 are eligible to try-out for the Varsity teams (when cuts have to be made and student’s abilities are equally matched, Upper School students will have preference over 8th grade students). • Students in grades 8-11 may try-out for the Junior Varsity teams (in CrossCountry, Swimming and Track & Field, 7th graders are also eligible). • Students in grades 6-8 are eligible for the Middle School teams.
Practice: • Varsity teams practice from 3:40 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Junior Varsity teams practice in the same time slot on Tuesday and Thursday (exception: JV tennis practices Monday and Thursday). • Middle School teams usually practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but days and times can vary per season. Registration forms will be sent home with the students for Middle School sports with detailed practice information.
The Varsity and JV teams will also make trips to ISST schools and we in turn will host ISST schools during the season. Our athletes will be housed by the host school on these occasions and we reciprocate by housing visiting athletes. As you will appreciate, this is a big responsibility for the Athletic Department and it is therefore part of the Varsity and JV Athlete’s commitment to house visiting team athletes. If you have any questions regarding any of the above information please do not hesitate to call me on 01.41.12.82.94 or e-mail: hhoegen@ asparis.fr Yours in sport. Han Hoegen Athletic Director

ASP Extension Program
What is the Extension Program? The Extension Program has been part of ASP for the last 17 years. The Program offers English instruction as a foreign language to the French-speaking community, including French citizens and expats who live in the Paris area and whose children attend French or bilingual schools. Every year we welcome on average 350 students on Wednesdays, 250 on Saturdays, 330 during school breaks and 700 for summer camp. More than 48 nationalities are represented within our Program, with 30% of our students coming from multicultural families, 10% of them being Franco-American. In addition, 30% of our Franco-French families previously lived in an English-speaking country. About 22% of our student body is enrolled in our advanced/fluent sections. The Extension Program offers language courses to children, young adults and professionals throughout the year, during school breaks and over the summer. Our goal is to promote a total language immersion, allowing students to understand a culture on its own terms. Students are taught to use English naturally and spontaneously and are encouraged to explore creative ways of learning. All of our teachers are native English speakers. Our approach is theme-based and relates to American culture and traditions. The program goes beyond language acquisition, emphasizing cultural awareness, as our students are fully immersed in an American setting. Last year, we offered two 7-week courses of both beginner and intermediate French classes to ASP parents. A key priority for us is to ensure that our After-School program be a rewarding, energetic and enriching cultural and linguistic experience for your children. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome to help us achieve this and to continually improve. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or suggestions. We look forward to launching our expanded Extension Program and wish you a wonderful school year!
NEW! After-School Activities for Grade 3-8 Students One key area of ASP’s Strategic Plan is to enhance our school’s French and additional language program. This is a great opportunity to build on ASP’s international perspective and for the Extension Program to play a larger role in the life of ASP students. As such, the Extension Program will be growing in 2012-13! Our aim is to develop and implement a comprehensive Extension/After-School program that will include both ASP outreach to the French community and increased opportunities for ASP Lower and Middle School students to enhance their French language skills in full alignment with ASP’s school mission. Starting in the first week in October, the After-School program will introduce French classes at all levels – a Language Exchange Club for ASP and Extension students. As well, a few additional activities (art courses, dance classes, cooking clubs) will be taught in French and a sports program will be offered on a weekly basis. More detailed information will be communicated at the beginning of the school year, so please look for upcoming announcements about our exciting new program soon!

Payment of Tuition Fees and other fees: Payment of Tuition Fees and other fees should be paid as per contract terms for all returning families, and three (3) weeks after invoice issue date for new families. If tuition and fees are paid in total or in part by a third party, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that payment is made to ASP on time. In the case of students enrolling after the beginning of the school year, payment of tuition fees is due within three weeks of billing. Unpaid tuition fees may result in students being put on a waiting list or suspended from the school, report cards and transcripts are withheld by the school and, in the case of failure to pay, the account is transferred to a recovery agency. Do not hesitate to contact the Business Office if you have problems paying tuition fees.
Access to Campus
Personal Insurance: It is important that your children are covered for their activities related to the school. Your household insurance policy, in French, assurance multirisques, may cover incidents involving your child for which you could be held personally liable (responsabilité civile). Some policies exclude liability coverage for extra-curricular activities, use of the school facility outside normal school hours, or school-sponsored sporting events. Please doublecheck to make sure you have adequate insurance coverage before a problem occurs. If your policy is incomplete, your housing is provided by your employer, or if you do not have an assurance multirisques, we recommend you purchase a student liability policy. You will find a list of Insurance companies on the US Embassy website under the section “Living in France”. Health Services: All students are required to provide the school nurse with a current list of vaccinations. Vaccinations must be up to date. Parents should make sure that the B.C.G. vaccination for tuberculosis or the Tuberculin (TB) skin test is valid. Please take care of these vaccinations before school begins. Accidents or Illness at School: All accidents or illnesses occurring during school hours are reported to the school nurse. If the nurse recommends immediate medical treatment, she will contact the parent or the emergency contact. If there are medical expenses incurred as a result of treatment ordered by the nurse, you must submit the claim to French Social Security, and to your supplementary insurance (Mutuelle), or health insurance carrier for reimbursement. The school’s insurance policy provides limited third party coverage for medical costs. It will intervene only for the portion of the medical expense that remains unpaid after the parent has claimed reimbursement through his medical plan. Thus, if your insurance will not cover the expense, even partially, neither will the school’s. Please review your medical coverage to verify coverage for accidents or illnesses that may occur while your child is at school. Should you require assistance in any of the items aforementioned, please do not hesitate to contact me. Joyce Kearney Director Finance & Human Resources jkearney@asparis.fr

There are three gates on the ASP campus. Here are the instructions and schedules for each gate. Please refer to the map on page 6 for their respective location on campus.
• During normal school days (Monday-Friday) please use the Garches (West) Gate from 7:00am - 7:00pm • The Middle Gate or Exit Gate is used for departure until 11:00pm on school days. • The Paris Gate (East) is open from 7:00am 9:00am on school days and again from 14:30 - 18:30, or until our late buses leave campus in the evening. • On weekends, use the Paris Gate from 8:00am - 5:00pm. The best way to remember is to use the Garches Gate on school days and exit at the Middle Gate. On weekends, use the Paris Gate. Note that our guard service is on duty 24/7, including holidays.
Family Information
You will find a Family and Emergency Contact form in your packet (also available on the website). Please take time today to update this form. It is vital that we have at least one local French telephone number for you. If you cannot give us this new information today, you can access and update your personal information on Powerschool directly. Your codes for access to Powerschool are enclosed in your packet.
Student ID
A card is issued to all Middle and Upper School children as school ID, cafeteria, library and bus card. Only Lower School students who take the bus also have a card. Your child(ren)’s card(s) are in your packet but if not, it is possible that we have not been able to make them. Please contact our Admissions Office for more information. It is not compulsory for students to wear the card in school but it should be kept in their school bag to use/show when necessary (to access the bus and for meals at the cafeteria). If lost or broken, the Student ID cards can be replaced. Broken cards should be brought to the Admissions Office and a replacement card will be provided free of charge. If a card is lost, there will be a charge of 10 euros for a new one.
Bus Information: Letter
A. To ensure that all the students behave in a safe and sensible manner
Dear ASP Parents & Students: The ASP bus system is very diverse and transports children not only in the suburban areas near the school, but also in far removed and often isolated areas of the western suburbs and in numerous sectors of Paris. The difficulty of this system lies in the fact that the buses are limited in their routes by road weight limitations, narrowness of the roads and streets, and quite often, especially in the morning, by snarled traffic conditions. Yet, an intensive effort is made to minimize the travelling time the children spend on the bus to and from school. Because of the above hindrances and due to the language barrier between the drivers and the students, the school relies on children’s understanding of correct behavior and on the Bus Monitors, selected from the student body of the Upper School, to ensure a safe and comfortable ride for everyone. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to your Bus Monitor(s) by email, phone call or on the bus. Communication of any problems/emergencies on your bus line is done by SMS text direct to your cell phones. Please ensure that we have your numbers and send us any changes that may occur during the school year. In addition, please have your cell phones with you and in service during bus hours. All Middle and Upper School students will be required to show their school ID cards before boarding the bus. Lower School students should have their ID/bus cards in their possession (in their backpacks is ideal!) at all timaes. The communication between the school and the monitors occurs on a regular basis through the use of a weekly bus monitor report. Any unacceptable or dangerous behavior is reported to me immediately upon arrival to school. The settlement of the situation involves parental contact, discussion with the youngster(s) involved, and eventual discipline measures as described on the LOST ITEMS: Please note that ASP and the SAVAC bus company are not responsible for items left on the buses. The buses are not on our campus so we can’t check them in the evenings and mornings. We ask that you please label all your children’s items with their names so that we can easily contact you if the object is found by the bus driver and returned to our office. We have a contract with the SAVAC bus company, but they often have other client runs to do immediately following our service so lost items may be picked up by others riding the bus after our students. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for items left on the buses, but we will always do our utmost to locate them. It is of paramount importance that lost items be reported immediately to the Admissions Office to increase the chances of finding them. I am confident that with your cooperation and frequent reminders and discussions at home with your children about the bus rules, we will be able to offer the best bus service possible and minimize eventual problems.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any comments, concerns or questions. Brenda Heussaff Director of Admissions & Bus Coordinator bheussaff@asparis.fr Office: 01-41-12-82-45 Mobile: 06-85-31-51-17

Directors or the Admissions Office immediately upon arrival in the morning
D. To help with new students joining the bus throughout the year

Bus Rules & Regulations 1. All Lower School children should be in the company of an adult or a
high school student while waiting for the morning bus. In the afternoon, Lower School children should be met by an adult, or accompanied by a Middle School of Upper School student when descending at their stop. In case of an unforeseen problem where the adult is not at the stop to meet the bus, the child must STAY ON THE BUS AND BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE SCHOOL after the bus has finished its route to be picked up by the parents at the school. Please instruct your young children not to get off the bus if you or a baby-sitter/ guardian are not there to pick them up!
2. It is forbidden for Lower School students to sit in the first row of
seats on the bus. Seating for Lower School students is from the back exit forward to row 2.
3. There is a strict rule concerning the use of objectionable language on the bus. Any violation of this rule must be reported to the bus monitor or to Brenda Heussaff immediately.
4. I n the interest of safety, ALL students must be seated and facing forward with their seat belts on while the bus is moving.
5. *** Disruptive behavior can be dangerous! Any violation will be viewed as a serious offense.
6. Food and drinks are prohibited on the bus. Trash should never be
left on the bus. The drivers arrive with a clean bus and the children should leave a clean bus at the end of the route.
7. ASP is not responsible for items left on the bus; nevertheless, please contact us immediately (01-41-12-82-45, 01-41-12-86-59, or admissions@asparis.fr) if your child leaves something on the bus and we will do our best to coordinate with the bus company to find the item. Please write your child(ren)’s name on backpacks, lunchboxes, sports bags, etc. to help us return found items to you.
8. Enter the bus by the front door only. 9. Please remember that the bus monitor is on the
bus to assure that safety and correct behavior are observed. They are to be respected, as you would want them to respect you.
***Any conduct which endangers the safety of students on the bus will result in a phone call and letter to the parents and the student being removed from the bus for a period of one week. All other violations of bus rules will result in a warning letter being sent to the parents outlining the student’s behavior. After a second violation of the bus rules, the student will be removed from the bus for one week. Additional violations will result in additional suspension from the bus and additional sanctions until the bus privilege is finally removed permanently. Thank you for taking the time to review the above information with your children.

Lower School Cafeteria
Here is a brief summary of our program for 2012-2013: It is our belief that students who are enrolled in the cafeteria program should receive a healthy and satisfying meal every day. Our goal is to prepare meals that are nutritionally balanced and pleasing to the children. We also integrate organic food when possible. Our Lower School Lunch Program features the following: • Students enrolled in the lunch program may join for a trimester or for the entire year. • You may register for our lunch program online. This system was successfully implemented with the Lower School last year. It is fast and simple — see sidebar for detailed instructions. • You will no longer need to pack a lunch on Field Trip days if your child is enrolled in the lunch programs. All children participating in the lunch program will now be provided with packed lunch when going on a day trip. • We continue to look for ways to ensure that our cafeteria is eco-friendly. All the plastic items have been replaced by real cutlery (glasses, knives, forks etc). New recycling garbage bins are also provided.
At ASP our Lower School students can either enjoy the Hot Lunch Program provided by our French chefs or can bring with them to school each day a packed lunch from home. The dedicated Lower School Cafeteria has several microwaves to allow children with packed lunches to heat up food brought from home with supervision.
Signing up for the Lunch Program 1. Click through to the SIGN UP SITE located on the Lower
School webpage/Cafeteria. Please carefully read the instructions below.
2. Once you have clicked through the Sign Up Site, enter your ID and password (if you didn’t receive it, please contact IT Manager Michel Lami: mlami@asparis.fr).

4. Fill in the banking data and submit. 5. Make sure you validate at the end of the transaction. 6. Your transaction will be registered when this message appears: “Your transaction has been recorded”.

• As always, if your child has allergies or requires a special diet, please inform us. The cafeteria team welcomes you to ASP and we are looking forward to another healthy and delicious school year! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. With kind regards, Patrick Ginestet Cafeteria Manager pginestet@asparis.fr

Additional information for Algebra I and Geometry students For advanced math students who will be taking Algebra I or Geometry, a Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculator may be used but is not required; this model will be used in the following years in the Upper School mathematics courses. As these graphing calculators are expensive, you should only purchase one if you are not likely to misplace it! (You may find these to be less expensive in the United States or in a duty-free store.) Otherwise, a scientific calculator (with sin, cos, tan, square root, and exponent features) is fine.
