A FINE ART EXPERIENCE

@sixcrowsfineart www.sixcrowsfineart.com 0457 071 641

SIAN + KIERAN SIAN AND KIERAN’S MOTHERS WENT TO COLLEGE TOGETHER AND WERE REALLY GOOD FRIENDS BUT THEN DRIFTED APART WHEN THEY STARTED THEIR FAMILIES. THE COUPLE MET AGAIN WHEN SIAN’S MUM ARRANGED FOR HER TO WAITRESS AT KIERAN’S BROTHER’S ENGAGEMENT PARTY IN 2011.

Sian describes the proposal: “We were meant to drive down the coast one Friday night after work. On my way home from work, Kieran called and said he couldn’t be bothered! He knew I would be a bit annoyed by that, so he suggested instead we go for a hike at Springbrook National Park the next morning. I had been wanting him to go hiking with me for ages so I jumped at the opportunity! During the hike we walked under a beautiful waterfall and stood there taking photos for ages. I started walking away and he called me back. When I turned around I saw the fear/panic in his eyes and guessed! By the time I walked back, he had gotten down on one knee and proposed. The rest was a blur but Kieran says I was too excited and pulled the ring out and put it on myself, haha. He designed it himself and had it made. I couldn’t have designed a more beautiful ring myself.” Sian Cooper and Kieran Williamson were married on 12 April 2019 in a ceremony at St Anthony’s Catholic Parish, Kingscliff NSW. “Our priest was Father Paul McDonald. One of my school friends, Emily Phillips sang our Responsorial Psalm ‘You are Mine’. She absolutely blew us away and Kieran and I couldn’t stop looking at each other while she was singing. It was incredible!” “My family surprised me on the day. Walking down the aisle I saw Kieran, but then I immediately saw that my nana and granddad had made it down. I really panicked that I was going to start crying and not be able to stop. I couldn’t help myself and went to give them a big hug, in the process losing my veil straight away haha. Mum had organised someone she knew to hire a van to bring them to the ceremony as my granddad is in a wheelchair and hasn’t been well. I had been quite upset they weren’t going to be there, so to have them turn up on the day and surprise me was the best thing ever. So, so special.”

The reception was held at Fins at Plantation House, Duranbah NSW. “What an absolutely incredible venue! Kieran chose the venue. We had only seen a couple of venues prior to this one and when we walked in, he said straight away, ‘this is it’. I said no we needed to keep looking, but we never found anything better. It was perfect! I wanted a cocktail style reception initially but Kieran really wanted a sit-down reception with a bridal table. We ended up compromising by having cocktail style entrées with food stations followed by seated mains. Our guests are still commenting on how great the food was.” “Roy Byrne was the photographer at my bridesmaid Megan’s wedding a couple of years ago and we knew we didn’t want anyone else. He is so relaxed and easy-going and, of course, photos to die for! Megan did the graphic design for our invitations and they were printed by Cyclone Print & Design. I wore Rime Arodaky, purchased at The Mews Bridal at Notting Hill in London. Megan was living in France at the time and I was in UK/EU for a holiday. I felt bad she missed out on the dress shopping in Brisbane so I thought we would visit a couple of stores in London ‘just for fun’. She found the perfect store and the perfect outfit for me. It was a great price and was purchased off-the-rack so I could take it home with me on the plane. I left my outfit behind three times on the journey home; twice on the plane and once in an airport lounge. My mum nearly died when I told her!” “My bridesmaids wore custom made dresses by Isabella Llonginou in Brisbane. I knew I wanted them all to wear different dresses. I wanted the girls to choose their own design to hopefully wear again. Hair was by Bella from Isabella Jane on the Gold Coast. Tanielle Jai MUA did the makeup for my bridesmaid Chantelle’s wedding a few years ago and I knew straight away that I wanted to have her for my wedding. All morning as the girls were getting their make up done, we couldn’t stop exclaiming how amazing she was and all the girls looked so beautiful.”

“My highlight was definitely seeing Sian walk down the aisle. She just took my breath away! Also making my debut singing Paul Kelly’s ‘How to Make Gravy’ with the wedding band was so much fun!” KIERAN

“When it comes to planning a wedding, I think it can be really difficult to plan everything ‘together’. It usually ends up being one person more than

CEREMONY St Anthony’s Catholic Parish, Kingscliff

the other. With us, I did all the background research and made shortlists.

together. It is great getting advice and recommendations from other people but make the final decisions together. A few people had told us to make time to appreciate everything on the day and that is so important. Sneaking away at least once for a couple of moments to look around you and see what you have created is incredible! Money is usually the biggest stress in planning a wedding. We were very fortunate to have family help us but we still did not anticipate just how much those ‘little extras’ add up to. If you can, try and budget for those unexpected additions in the last few weeks leading up to the day.” “We had an eight-week trip through UK/EU in July/August 2018 so for our honeymoon, we wanted to be able to drive somewhere to have some quiet alone time and if we got bored, to have the option to do activities. Kieran found the Little Red Barn on Airbnb, a beautifully renovated red barn on acreage in Doonan on the Sunshine Coast. It had a beautiful big deck and pool, a fire and high ceilings. We had an amazing week, a mix of hanging out and drinking and eating and going on a couple of hikes, to the beach and to amazing restaurants. We are looking towards a possible African adventure next year.”

Kieran wore Sartorio Rossi. “While we were on our UK/EU trip in 2018, Kieran was adamant he wanted to buy his suit over there. He has a lot of style and chose his outfit quite easily. It was me who was more nervous about the white pants scenario. I was even more nervous when I chose my outfit which also had white pants! He pulled off the look really well. His shoes were purchased in Florence and his bow tie was made by Isabella Llonginou. The men wore suits by MJ Bale, shoes by Aquila and bow ties by Isabella Llonginou, custom made to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses. Tracey Barker, my friend’s mum, made my little niece, Addison the most beautiful playsuit/romper with tutu in fabric to match the bridesmaids; so beautiful and sweet - everyone loved it! Kieran’s nephew, Carter was our page boy and he wore a matching bow tie made by Tracey Barker.” “I wanted a vibrantly colourful wedding, then ended up featuring cacti in our invitations and other bits and pieces. When I bought my rose gold shoes, it morphed into a rose gold, peachy, pink theme and ended up being a bit of everything. The flowers were by Sarah-Mae from Florals & Co. I really had no idea in regards to flowers and colours but Sarah-Mae knew exactly and they looked amazing! Katie Larkey from Sweet Obsessions created our salted caramel mud and coconut zing sponge cake. Sammi from Love n Wishes created the beautiful hanging balloon installations as well as a great photo wall. She gave us a single balloon for the flower girl and page boy to hold walking down the aisle. AVIdeas provided our fairy light wall, bar furniture, festoon lighting and tassel bunting. We created a little photo book and bought a polaroid camera. We also bought lots of rose gold stickers and tapes off Etsy for guests to attach their photos and write messages.”

“Golden Child entertained our guests. Again, chosen from a bridesmaid’s wedding. We knew they were good and they delivered, even allowing Kieran to get up and belt out his own version of ‘How to Make Gravy’. Our first dance was to ‘We’re Going Home’ by Vance Joy. The first dance song was quite hard for us. We really are not ‘slow dance people’ and are not the emotional/public affectionate type, so we really just wanted a song that meant something more to us that had an upbeat tempo so we could have some fun with it. We saw Vance Joy live and he was incredible. Since then he has become a staple in our play lists.” “Limoso provided our wedding van. The ceremony and reception weren’t that far away so we hired a Mercedes Sprinter Van to take the boys to the ceremony and to take the bridal party for photos, which was super fun. They brought an esky and we supplied drinks. Guest transport was provided by Surfside Buslines. They were really easy to work with and well priced. Ngaire Hogan from Event Stylist & Co was probably the best money we spent on our wedding! I started looking into event planners/coordinators mainly because I really wanted my mum to be able to relax on the day and not get too stressed running around doing everything. After the rehearsal on the night before our wedding, mum came over to me and said: ‘Where did we find that Ngaire lady? She is amazing!’ and we were so happy!” “Brittany from Wallflower Weddings was our Videographer. She filmed my sister’s wedding a few years ago, so again another really easy choice. It’s nice when you already know someone for these roles and it makes everything more relaxed, particularly during the photo shoot. We can’t wait to see the video, particularly to watch the speeches and be able to see our niece and nephew walk down the aisle!”

relaxed elegance among the rolling hills AT SPICERS HIDDEN VALE

KATE + ANDREW

ANDREW WHEADON MET KATE DUFF AT TOUCH FOOTBALL ON A THURSDAY NIGHT. “ANDREW FOUND ME ON THE SIGN-ON REGISTER FORM. HE MESSAGED ME AND I IGNORED HIM FOR A WHILE, UNTIL HE FOLLOWED ME UP. I WASN’T INTERESTED AT FIRST AND THEN I GOT TO KNOW HIM. SUCH A KIND MAN, HOW COULD I SAY NO?”

Kate describes the proposal: “For Andrew’s 26th birthday, I bought a skydiving voucher for Andrew and his brother, David. Little did I know, Andrew had organised for his best friend Ned and his wife to make the trip up to the Sunshine Coast to watch him do the skydive. In the days leading up to the event, Andrew had snuck into the city and finished paying off the bling! He secretly arranged for Ned to have it on him for when they landed! As the plane took off from the airport he could only think of two things: Would he die doing something incredible? Like free falling from 13,000 feet, or would he die from asking me to marry him? They had an absolutely amazing skydive. Andrew’s plan was once they landed, he would walk over to the family who were eagerly waiting, get Ned to slide him the box and then turn around, drop down to one knee and present me with the opportunity to spend the rest of my life with him. The plan would have been flawless had Ned not received poor directions to the landing zone! While they were approx 250 metres above the landing zone, Andrew could see someone running towards the landing zone. Low and behold, it was Ned... late! After landing on the beach and thanking the parachutist, our family came walking over and within seconds, Ned arrived. I gave Andrew a big hug, followed by his mother. Andrew then turned to Ned, gave him a big hug and that’s when he slipped the box into his hand. I was gazing over the ocean when Andrew tapped me on the shoulder, quickly dropped to one knee and asked me if I would like to spend the rest of my life with him. Andrew thinks I said ‘yes’, although he could not make sense of all the blubbering and tears. Oh well, the rest is history! If you can survive skydiving, you can survive a proposal!”

“There were so many highlights of our day. When Brittany from MBK Events turned up, I felt like everything

was in control and it would all be ok! Geed Up Music were fantastic, the venue (day and night) is absolutely

breathtaking and having Liam, our rescue dog there was really incredible. Liam was looked after by First Class

Pet Wedding Assistants. They brought him to the venue (with signs etc.) and took photos all day for us. They also stayed at our house for two nights and looked after Liam and our other rescue dog.

Andrew and Kate were married on 7 March 2019. Their ceremony and reception were held at Spicers Hidden Vale. “Andrew is a country boy and I am a ‘city slicker’. As Spicers Hidden Vale is located just outside of Ipswich, it has the country feel. Spicers Hidden Vale has heritage cottages, paddocks, livestock, a large barn and serenity! It felt like home to Andrew and as for me, well I just loved it. The only ‘city slicker’ part of our day was what I wore. My dress was from Melbourne, my shoes had some bling on the back and I added Swarovski crystals to my dress. I drove my dad’s 1957 Chevrolet 2-door sports coupé Belair to the ceremony, where our friends, family, Andrew and Liam waited for me to arrive. The day was absolutely perfect. I was fortunate enough to have all the help at Spicers Hidden Vale and Brittany from MBK Events to style our wedding and make the whole process run smoothly. We made our own wedding favours, each guest received a plant. I love gardening and this represented us perfectly. We loved the countryside location with a splash of classic and city thrown in and cannot wait to head back to Spicers Hidden Vale.” “Although I spent one and a half years planning our wedding with Brittany from MBK Events and family, it was tough getting through each stage. I suggest taking the help when it is offered. And if you need help, ask! Write everything down; find at least three quotes for services and most of all, enjoy it. We were told by a few guests to stand back on the day for five minutes and watch all our friends and family enjoying themselves. We are so glad we did.” “With styling, we found nearly all of our items second hand or we built them. We are going to sell our decorations for another couple to enjoy! I can highly recommend having a videographer. The day goes so quickly and little moments can be forgotten. Our videographer captured all the special moments and it is amazing to watch over and over.” “We honeymooned in Europe.”

MELISSA + BENJAMIN MELISSA AND BENJAMIN MET WHEN THEY WERE 6 YEARS OLD AND WERE IN THE SAME SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS AT CHURCH. “WE STARTED DATING AT THE END OF GRADE 11, WENT TO EACH OTHER’S FORMALS AND HERE WE ARE, EIGHT YEARS LATER.”

Melissa describes the proposal: “It was the last day of my friend’s hens weekend and Ben called to say he was going to pick me up to have dinner at Versace with his family. I was upset because I didn’t have a nice dress for dinner so Ben, being the master of misdirection, handed me a new dress and shoes and told me he was going to surprise me with them on Valentine’s Day but I could wear them that night instead. So I got dressed and we drove to Versace and had some cocktails then walked along the pier at Marina Mirage. Knowing that I love gondolas and the water, Ben pointed out a stunning vintage gondola and said we should take a look while we are waiting for our table. We walked over and the lady greeted us with chocolates and welcomed us aboard. At this point I was so confused and asked him what was going on and he said his brother and his girlfriend were going to join us. I got so excited thinking that his brother was going to propose to his girlfriend! As the gondola took off without his brother, I was even more confused, but my favourite dish of carbonara and Moscato came out and distracted me. Ben simply asked me to close the curtain and as I struggled with this for a while he had sneakily pulled out the most beautiful ring and asked me to marry him.” Melissa Daoud and Benjamin Ibrahim were married on 3 November 2018. Their ceremony was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George by various Priests of the Brisbane Coptic Orthodox Community: Father David, Father Matteous, Father Abraham, Father Bishoy and Father Abanoub. Special mention of Father Anastasi from Hawaii, Father Flexinous from Egypt, Father Moses and His Grace Bishop Daniel from the Sydney Monastery, who all blessed us with their presence. “In the Coptic Orthodox church, the bride and groom are anointed, cloaked and crowned as king and queen. This is a tradition I absolutely adore because once we are crowned as king and queen, we end the ceremony by turning around and bowing down to our Heavenly King. MELISSA

The newlyweds celebrated with family and friends at Hillstone St Lucia. “My wedding dress was definitely influenced by Jennifer Aniston’s character, Rachel Green on Friends. I love the off-theshoulder look - it is classic and timeless. In terms of style and theme, I decided that I really wanted to keep it simple and let the venues speak for themselves. I think this was really well achieved thanks to our florist, reception coordinator and styling team. I got a lot of my inspiration from Brisbane Bride Magazine, Instagram and Pinterest. Our first dance was to ‘You and I’ by John Legend. Ben chose this song because he’s always said I was his number one girl since we were young.” “We spent our honeymoon in Cancun and New York. The reasoning behind our choices were two-fold. Sunny Mexico was on my list and an NBA game was on Ben’s. Where better to see an NBA game than the Big Apple.”

“Our advice for anyone planning a wedding is to enjoy it! The actual day goes by so fast. Wedding planning is whatever you make it. Once you have made a decision, be confident with it. Remember that your dream wedding isn’t really about what it looks like; it’s about you and the person in front of you, surrounded by the people you love. Trust in your family, friends and vendors to get jobs done and if they can’t or don’t, just work with what you have and move on. Everything always works out. Believe me when I say, once you see your partner, everything you thought was a disaster in the planning process becomes the past and all you will see is your future.” “I have to say the highlight of my day was seeing Ben as my husband and king in church. Seeing that was seeing everything I have ever wanted since I was a little girl. Corny I know, but true.” “Ben’s highlight was our first dance because it allowed us to have a moment together amongst the craziness of the night.”

The theme for this gorgeous styled shoot was F R E N CH P R OV I N C I A L and the venue was the award-winning AUSTINVILLA ESTATE in the Gold Coast hinterland. And on the day... it rained! The weather only enhanced the mood, with the mist gliding through the mountains to create a stunning setting and the clouds softening the light to make the images all that more dreamy. The open air chapel was out of the elements, making it the perfect setting for the intimate reception which followed the ceremony.

AUSTRALIAN CAKE ARTISTS & DECORATORS ASSOCIATION ACADA Australian Cake Oscar Awards 2019

WITH THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF A TOP CLASS VENUE, DELICIOUS FOOD AND DRINK, A GALAXY OF CAKE STARS AND THE BRILLIANT HOSTING SKILLS OF BRITISH EXTREME CAKER TV CELEBRITY ROSIE DUMMER (ROSIE CAKE DIVA) AND PAUL BRADFORD (CAKEFLIX), THE ROOM WAS PACKED FULL OF SUPERSTARS. THERE WASN’T AN EMPTY CHAIR IN THE HOUSE AS ATTENDEES RUBBED SHOULDERS WITH THEIR CAKE AND SWEET CRUSHES. THERE WAS HOWEVER A VERY SERIOUS SIDE TO THE NIGHT AS THE AUSTRALASIAN CAKE DECORATING INDUSTRY PACKED THE GATSBY THEMED BALLROOM TO CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE BEST OF THE VERY BEST WITHIN THE INDUSTRY.

Yamba based ALLISON TURNER (ALWAYS SAVE ROOM FOR CAKE) took out the International Cake Show Australia SHOW CHAMPION Prize with her exquisite unicorn and fairy.

The ACADA Australasian Cake Oscar Awards were held with all the glamour of a Hollywood production, complete with red carpet. Held recently at Brisbane’s Stamford Plaza Hotel, the winners of each category were announced. The night was hosted by Australia’s peak industry body ACADA (Australian Cake Artists & Decorators’ Association). The awards winners were announced after an extensive public search across Australasia for the best of the very best cake artists and decorators. More than 18,000 votes were received across a wide range of categories. A stringent multi-tiered judging process which involved a combination of pubic nomination and voting, and judging by official ACADA Judges, high profile global cake artists and industry professionals decided the finalists in each category. Competing against superstars based within Australasia, Queensland came out a clear winner on the night. Sunshine Coast based wedding cake designer Zoe Clark (Zoe Clark Cakes) won one of the big awards, Australasia’s Haute Couture Wedding Cake Designer of the Year. Gold Coast based Louisa Massignani (Cakes Alouisa) was runner up. Mt Warren based Trina Thomson (Sweet Ruby Cakes) won the big gong, the most sought after award Australasian Cake Artist of the Year. Trina also won Cake Sculptor of the Year as well as being part of a cake artist collaboration who won Best Show Feature of the Year.

Daniel Dieguez from Spain with his Queen of the Sea made from over 100 kg of chocolate cake and couverture chocolate.

Brisbane based cake artists won more than their share of awards. Alderley based Diana Llanos (The Sweet Society Co) won Rising Star of the Year while Brisbane based cake artist Camilo Murcia (By.Aletoso) took home two awards, Best Buttercream Artist of the Year and Best Teacher of the Year. The Best Show Feature was won by five local cake artists who built a huge jawdropping ‘Wind in the Willows’ sugar feature. The winners for this category included Norman Park based Zoe Byres (Sugar Art by Zoe Byres), Mt Warren based Trina Thomson (Sweet Ruby Cakes), Tarragindi mum Annette Ibrahim (Bella Sophia Cakes), Gold Coast based Louisa Massignani (Cakes Alouisa) and Yamba based Allison Turner (Always Save Room for Cake). Allison also took out the International Cake Show Australia Show Champion Prize with her exquisite unicorn and fairy. ACADA’s National President Joan McDermott said: “With the emergence of shows like ‘The Great Australian Bake Off’ and ‘Just Desserts’ there is a huge underworld of cake decorators spread throughout every part of Australia. It’s a huge and thriving industry. The winners of the Cake Oscar Awards are recognised globally as the most elite within their specialty fields. Most will go on to have international teaching careers.” “The search for the Australasian Haute Couture Wedding Cake Designer was one of the most difficult categories. Nine finalists from throughout Australasia were selected. Each was given the challenge to design and make a haute couture wedding cake of five tiers or more, in a Gatsby or 1920’s theme. Zoe’s work is unique, modern and exquisite,” said Joan McDermott. “Each cake was on display at the International Cake Show Australia at the Brisbane Showgrounds. Over two days the public and judges were set the task of voting for the winner. Every cake was exquisite, however Zoe Clark’s design was a stand out winner”. “To be named a finalist in a competition at this level is no mean feat. The other Haute Couture Wedding Cake Designer finalists deserve a huge applause,” Joan McDermott said. They included Gold Coast based Bree Meldrum (The Cake That Ate Paris), Gold Coast based Louisa Massignani (Cakes Alouisa), Brisbane based Caitlin Mitchell (A Little Cake Place), Sydney based Faye Cahill (Faye Cahill Cake Design), Sydney based Monica Cavallaro (Moreish Cakes), Sydney based Jade Moore (Ivy & Stone Cake Design), Sydney based Anna Maria Roche (Anna Maria Cake Design) and Wollongong based Paul Delaney (Delaney’s Cakes). Sydney based cake artist Mio Shih (Deliciously Yummy Sydney) won Sugarcraft Artist of the Year, Lockhart (NSW) based Anita Human (Vintique Cakes) won the Royal Icing Artist of Excellence Award and Melbourne based Michelle Nyguen (Michelle’s Sweet Blossom) won Sugar Floral Artist of the Year. Dell Khalil (Cake Salon) won Best Statement Cake Artist of the Year. Wollongong based Verusca Walker took out Best On-Line Teacher and Julia Day from Melbourne won Best Cookie Artist. Adriano Zumbo, Verusca Walker, Paul Bradford and Dorothy Klerck were also inducted into the Australasian Hall of Fame on the night. The Hall of Fame recognises those who have made a huge contribution to the cake and sweet industries. Nominations for the next Australasian Cake Oscar Awards open in February 2020. Information is available through the ACADA website www.acada.com.au

The Best Show Feature was won by five local cake artists who built a huge jaw-dropping ‘Wind in the Willows’ sugar feature.

ISABELLA + JOSEPH

“WE MET AT THE FIRST UNIVERSITY CLUB NIGHT OF 2014. WE HAD A MUTUAL FRIEND WHO THOUGHT WE WOULD MAKE A GREAT MATCH, SO HE INTRODUCED US THE FIRST CHANCE HE GOT. THE INTRODUCTION WAS UNDER THREE SECONDS: ‘JOE THIS IS BELLA, BELLA THIS IS JOE, BYE’. WE SMILED, LAUGHED AND TALKED ALL NIGHT, AND HAVE BEEN INSEPARABLE EVER SINCE.”

The proposal happened on the night of the couple’s three-year anniversary. “We had signed the contract for our first home that very day. We already had dinner and celebrations planned for the Friday night as well as the whole weekend seeing family and friends.” Unsuspecting, Bella had been saying all day: “This is just the best day ever; it doesn’t get any better than this.” Joe had been waiting three months with the ring for this day to come and had been struggling to find new hiding places for the ring around the house. That night, Joe got down on one knee and made ‘the best day ever’ one to never forget. With a big gasp from Bella followed by a smile, tears and then ‘YES YES YES’ on repeat. “We had a lovely two-year engagement, which gave us plenty of time to find the right venue and businesses to make our day perfect.”

“The ceremony was the highlight of the day. It was picture-perfect.

The pure emotions of eagerness, joy and love from everyone present were very special and beautiful. Our Marriage Celebrant, Knots tied by Kylie, was extremely organised and made everything very easy leading up to the day.”

Isabella and Joseph O’Connor were married on 16 March 2019. The ceremony and reception were held at Preston Peak Winery in Preston, Queensland. “Our guests were in awe of the pavilion and the magnificent view. The food was unbelievable and unbeatable - we would highly recommend choosing the banquet option and the chocolate fountain too... yum! Preston Peak is stunning, with the thousands of fairy lights around the grounds, beautiful sunset and spectacular locations for photos all at the one venue. When we had our first meeting with the venue, we were told if we did not like their food on the night of the wedding, we would get a full refund! Safe to say, we certainly did not ask for a refund. Our grandmothers were devising a way to corner the chefs to steal their recipes; they thought it was all that amazing. To this day, our guests are still raving about the enormous food servings and how delicious everything was.” Bella and Joe’s rustic themed wedding included polished timber with bark from the family farm, courtesy of Joseph’s dad and simple greenery such as fresh Rosemary, Lavender and Murraya from the family garden. The bride’s necklace and sapphire earrings belonged to her mother and grandmother. They were her ‘something old and something blue’. “We were lucky enough to have hair and makeup done by some of our beautiful friends who attended the wedding, and our wonderful sister-in-law made our delicious cake. Dreamlife Photography Brisbane were absolutely fantastic. Our photographer was very professional, he arrived early and left late, and he was very funny, having all of our guests in tears of laughter with his witty humour. Our guests were entertained by Kent Tonscheck. He did a fantastic job! Lovely guy and very talented musician.”

“Don’t sweat the little things. If you have the right person standing with you at the ceremony, nothing else matters. That’s really all the day is about. And just think, if the day goes absolutely perfectly, you will have nothing to laugh about afterwards!” ISABELLA + JOSEPH

TEKITA + CALE

TEKITA AND CALE MET THROUGH A MUTUAL FRIEND. “WE WENT TO THE MOVIES ON OUR FIRST DATE. CALE PROPOSED WHILE WE WERE RIDING BIKES AROUND CENTRAL PARK IN NEW YORK. IT WAS PERFECT.”

Tekita Archie and Cale Agosta were married at Tennyson’s Garden at The Brisbane Golf Club on 5 May 2019. “We couldn’t be happier with the ceremony and reception venue. We cannot speak highly enough of all the staff and the beautiful venue. Brooke Cramp was our Marriage Celebrant. She was amazing and made us feel so relaxed.” “Mac from Mac Loxton Photography took so many great photos. He also brought a photo booth which was a huge hit. Josh from Peter & Mae Photography & Videography was so easy-going and professional. He did an excellent job. I found my dream dress was at Wedding World Toowoomba. I received so many compliments on my dress and would definitely recommend Wedding World. I wanted my dress to look unique and modern and they made sure I got my wish. Hannah from Kidman Hair Studio made all our hair look perfect. Annyse Makeup Artist did an amazing job. She made me feel and look so beautiful.” “Brisbane Market Flowers created our bouquets, which were perfect and exactly what we asked for. The cake was by Aldos Cucina and not only looked better than what we could ever imagine, it tasted incredible! We had guests eating 3 or 4 pieces. Styling was by Events and Settings who were very easy to deal with. Jared Bullock provided the entertainment. He is a soloist and DJ. We had so many people compliment him on the night and they asked for his details afterwards. He has an incredible voice. Brisbane Limousines made everything hassle-free and were affordable.” “For our first dance, we chose ‘Riptide’ by Vance Joy. We love that song and it’s something a bit different. My highlight was dancing at the reception with our friends and family. Cale’s highlight was having a drink and driving the golf buggies with the bridal party.” “Our newlywed advice is to take things one at a time and take everything in on the day. It goes so fast.”

“We chose Hawaii for our honeymoon as we wanted to go somewhere nice and relaxing.” TEKITA & CALE

KRISTIN + CHRIS

“WE MET ONLINE INITIALLY AND HAD OUR FIRST DATE ABOUT A MONTH LATER. OUR FIRST DATE WAS DINNER AND PUTT PUTT. CHRIS PROPOSED DURING A HOLIDAY TO FIJI IN DECEMBER 2017. HE SUGGESTED A ROMANTIC DINNER IN A PRIVATE CABANA AT ONE OF THE BARS OVERLOOKING THE INFINITY POOL AND GORGEOUS SUNSETS. WHEN WE SAT DOWN TO EAT, EVERYTHING WAS SET UP BEAUTIFULLY AND WE WERE NEAR THE SPA; THERE WERE A COUPLE OF LOUD TOURISTS IN THERE AT THE TIME AND CHRIS WAS GETTING INCREASINGLY ANNOYED AND I COULDN’T UNDERSTAND WHY! WHEN IT STARTED GETTING LATE AND THE SPA WAS MEANT TO BE CLOSED, HE REQUESTED THE STAFF ASK THE TOURISTS TO MOVE ON! I WAS A BIT EMBARRASSED BUT UNDERSTOOD WHY WHEN CHRIS PROPOSED ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER!”

Kristin Zuehlke and Chris Hughes were married on 30 March 2019 at Customs House, Brisbane. Their ceremony was held in The Long Room and a reception followed in The River Room. “We went for an elegant wedding theme with rich Autumn colours to fit our venue and time of year. We also found little ways to honour our family members who, unfortunately, couldn’t be with us that day.” “Pinterest played a big part in finding ideas for our overall theme! I also didn’t want a lot of white at the wedding reception so it helped that burgundy, gold and dusty pink were all pretty popular at the time.” “We chose ‘Your Song’ by Ellie Goulding for our first dance. I first heard this song in the movie ‘Moulin Rouge’ and fell in love with it, even before I heard the original version by Elton John. We both loved the cover version by Ellie Goulding and felt it was the best fit for us.”

“We went to the USA for our honeymoon. About 90% of the reason we chose that destination was because WWE Wrestlemania is on

every year on the first Sunday in April and Chris has been a big fan

since childhood. We even planned our wedding date around it too!

“Our newlywed advice: Wedding planning can be so stressful but even so, try to enjoy as much of it as you can! It’s also never too early to start planning despite what people may say; the first thing I did was download a wedding app with a built-in checklist and started planning about a month after we were engaged. On the day, try not to stress about anything; if it hasn’t been done already, it’s just not going to get done! Try to be in the moment as much as you can, I took a panoramic picture of my view from the bridal table on the night and it’s one of the best things I did.” “My highlight was walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Chris there. He looked so proud! Also, the speeches and dancing were such fun! Chris said seeing me walk down the aisle was easily the best part of the day for him.”

HIGH IGH C CHURCH HURCH H

Have your dream ceremony and reception together in one perfect place - Brisbane’s most unique wedding venue. “We recently held our wedding at High Church and it was absolutely amazing. Not only is the venue stunning, the staff were so helpful leading up to the event, and they created the most beautiful floral arrangements for the day. They allowed us to have our fur baby Rufus on site, which made the day even more special for me and my husband. We’d definitely recommend High Church to anyone looking for an informally formal wedding space!” - Stephanie R.

ASH + JEN

“WE FIRST MET THROUGH WORK IN 2011, WHICH ISN’T SUPER ROMANTIC BUT IT ALLOWED US TO BUILD A REALLY STRONG FRIENDSHIP THAT WE BOTH BELIEVE HAS BECOME THE FOUNDATION OF OUR RELATIONSHIP TODAY. WE ALWAYS HELPED EACH OTHER OUT WHEREVER WE COULD AND WE NEVER REALLY KEPT SCORE. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT CAME TO BUYING EACH OTHER A MUCH NEEDED COFFEE.”

Ashleigh Thompson and Jenifer Davis married on 11 May 2019. Their ceremony and reception were held at High Church, Fortitude Valley. Ash proposed to Jen. “Jen is quite a private person and is pretty much an introvert. She tends to have a few good friendships instead of spreading herself too thin.” It was really important to Ash to propose in a way that would make Jen feel comfortable and have that ‘Oh! this is perfect’ moment. Both Jen and Ash are avid readers, so Ash chose to propose through adding a new page to an old book. There is a bit of a ritual between the two, where they would lay in bed and read and pass books to each other, sharing pages and passages. So on an ordinary night, Ash passed her copy of The Great Gatsby to Jen, with a new page added. Jen read through and explained that she didn’t remember that part of the book the first time she read it, to which Ash clarified with a follow up question, “Will you marry me?” and Jen said “Yes”.

“We disregarded a lot of ‘traditions’ and stayed together as a family (with our two children)

the night before the wedding. This allowed for

a relaxing morning with coffee and breakfast at a local cafe before getting into the busy day.” Jen’s daughter Charlotte prepared a surprise

speech with Ash’s help. “Charlotte delivered the last speech and after that one, I don’t think there was a dry eye left in the crowd.”

“We didn’t have a theme but we were pretty clear on the aesthetic we were aiming for. We wanted our wedding to reflect our easy-going and down-to-earth nature. Understated yet sophisticated. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money either, so we really took the time to think about what would make the most impact but also be cost-effective. For instance, we wanted nice florals but we knew we would arrange the flowers for the tables ourselves which saved money but was a really nice thing to do as a couple.” “The inbetween moments were a big highlight for us. Lots of people had told us to make the most of every moment and that’s what we did. We looked at each other every chance we got. We stood still when everyone else was busy and just let the moment happen.” When they first started dating, Jen found a quote that read something along the lines of: ”You’re a human being, you live once and life is wonderful, so eat the damn red velvet cupcake.” Jen shared the quote with Ash and a few days later, Ash surprised Jen with a red velvet cupcake. It was her way of saying: “Let’s give this a go!” On the morning of their wedding, Ash arranged for a friend to deliver a red velvet cupcake to Jen, accompanied by a little card. “Another highlight was announcing our new surname. Ash lost her mum to cancer when Ash was 18 and we felt it was fitting to honour her by taking her maiden name. We kept it a surprise and so many of the family were touched when we introduced ourselves as Jen and Ash Ivory. It meant a lot and it really felt like Kath (Ash’s mum) was with us on the day.” “Our newlywed advice is to take your time and make sure you love your vendors. It was really important for us to work with people that shared our values and ‘got us’ as a couple. To us this meant LGBT+ friendly and able to have a laugh with us; an amazing Marriage Celebrant who really takes the time to get to know your story and a photographer that you feel comfortable with (considering you will spend as much time with them on the day as your new husband/wife). Know what the traditions really mean and don’t feel obliged to follow them if it doesn’t resonate with you. For instance, we walked down the aisle together rather than having someone ‘give us away’. We also didn’t worry about a bridal party as we wanted to spend time with each other and then with the wider group of friends and family. We would highly recommend doing a first look as it’s a really special moment especially for two brides.”

ERINN + REECE

“REECE AND I MET IN PRIMARY SCHOOL. ALTHOUGH WE WENT TO SEPARATE HIGH SCHOOLS, WE STILL KEPT IN CONTACT. WE BOTH MOVED BACK TO NOOSA IN 2012 AND THAT IS WHEN OUR DATING JOURNEY BEGAN. WE WENT ON ONE DATE TO HAPPY HOUR AT BISTRO C AND BASICALLY HUNG OUT EVERY DAY AFTER THAT!”

Reece proposed to Erinn on Christmas Day 2017 with a ring he creatively hand crafted. “I was so excited but I’m pretty sure I said “NO, are you joking?” about 10 times before saying “OF COURSE I WILL MARRY YOU!” Erinn Bowtell and Reece Newnham were married on 8 March 2019. They held their ceremony and reception at Obi Obi Hall, Obi Obi in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, one hour from Noosa. “We didn’t really have a theme. I guess the style of the wedding was quite simple, but still really fun!” “Reece’s sister is a designer and she made our invitations, website, name cards and menus. She did the most amazing job. I accessorised my Zimmermann dress with a veil that one of my best friends wore to her wedding. My sisters were my bridesmaids and we all wore matching Gucci heels. Reece’s mum made the most amazing cake for us, it was so special. We had a mobile bar supplied by Little Rum Runner. They were the most amazing bartenders and created incredible cocktails for us all night! Our guests enjoyed woodfire pizzas and salads. For our wedding favours, we ordered custom made matches for the guys that had our names on them along with ‘the perfect match’ – so cute! For the girls, I ordered star and moon hair clips. It was so cool to see everyone on the dance floor with matching hairclips.”

“My dad has the coolest car collection, so I was spoilt for choice. I ended up choosing to arrive in a hot rod that he built. My two sisters also used this car on their wedding day, which was pretty special.”

Our DJ was one of Reece’s friends, Sean Bate. He was incredible. I think there were at least 40 people on the dance floor most of the time. We nearly didn’t get our bond back because apparently, ‘we wore the floor away’ where the dance floor was positioned! Everyone had the best time. We hired a photo both from Noosa Photo Booths and it was so much fun.”

I remember during the day I kept thinking, ‘Wow, this is so cool, everyone I love is in one spot’. It was so magical.”

KRISTINA + ROBBIE IN SEPTEMBER 2011 KRISTINA WAS PART OF A GROUP OF YOUNG AUSTRALIANS WHO WERE SELECTED TO TRAVEL TO THE UK AND IRELAND AS PART OF A PROGRAM ORGANISED THROUGH THE JINDALEE ROTARY CLUB. KRISTINA VISITED LONDON, THEN BELFAST, THEN A SMALL TOWN IN NORTHERN IRELAND, CALLED COOKSTOWN. WHILE IN COOKSTOWN, KRISTINA AND THE OTHER GROUP MEMBERS HAD DINNER AT A LOCAL WINE BAR THAT WAS OWNED BY ONE OF THE HOST FAMILIES. KRISTINA GOT CHATTING WITH THE OWNERS OF OTTER LODGE WHO HAPPENED TO MENTION THEIR SON WAS THINKING OF TRAVELLING TO AUSTRALIA. ROBBIE WAS INTRODUCED TO KRISTINA AND THE REST, AS THEY SAY, IS HISTORY.

“We were on a holiday in Japan with my family when Robbie decided to pop the question. It was Christmas Eve morning, Robbie had hood-winked me into an early start to take a casual stroll through Tokyo’s traditional gardens of Shinjuku Gyo-en. It was a beautiful place, surprisingly calm and peaceful in such a vibrant city, though little did I know what was about to unfold! As I enjoyed the surroundings of the gardens, Robbie stopped at the foot of one of the island bridges and told me he’d take a photo of me with the stunning backdrop. When I came back down the bridge towards him after taking the photo, a young Japanese woman ran up to us asking to also take a photo. She explained she was a university student and needed some images for her photography portfolio. Completely clueless to anything out of the ordinary (and feeling a bit chuffed), I obliged and grabbing Robbie, ran back up onto the top of the bridge. She said, ’the lighting is good!’ and at that cue, Robbie turned and dropped down on one knee. I had no idea and was completely stunned! He had coordinated the whole thing - exact time, exact location and a local photographer to capture it all! He pulled out the ring box, kept in secret the entire trip, opened it up and asked me to marry him. It was magical.” Kristina Whitehead and Robbie Moffett were married on 30 November 2018 at Flaxton Gardens. “From the moment we first met with Mariana, we knew we would be in very safe hands by choosing Flaxton Gardens as the venue for our ceremony and reception. We felt very drawn to the venue as that extra personal touch and commitment of a family-run business was clearly evident. Throughout the planning journey, fine tuning every detail and especially on the day, we felt so supported by the Flaxton Gardens team, especially our Wedding Coordinator, Megan. Her attention to detail ensured no stone was left unturned. The venue itself is breathtaking. Nestled in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, the venue boasts the most gorgeous views which our guests thoroughly enjoyed and was the perfect setting for our outdoor ceremony and afternoon bubbles with canapés. Being foodies, we wanted our guests to be well looked after with tasty food and Flaxton Gardens certainly did not disappoint – credit to Alan and his team behind the scenes. The honest guidance and precise attention to detail from the team really helped ensure our day was all that we dreamed of. This was also reflected in the fantastic feedback we have since received from all our guests on just how impressed they were with the day and how much they enjoyed themselves. Finally, our favourite thing about Flaxton Gardens, is that we can come back at any time to visit Mariana, Alan and the team, enjoy the food and reminisce on the amazing experience we had.” “Ashley Oostdyck from Stories by Ash did our photography and videography. Having put great importance on our chosen photographer, we searched for quite some time before we fell in love with her ‘story’ style to document the precious moments of a wedding day. We loved her ability to spot the candid laughs, hugs and tears before they happened and her keen eye just meant so many gorgeous shots were captured for us to cherish. The vast selection of photos, from getting ready in the morning to filling the dance floor at night, ensures we get to relive our day over and over again.” “Sandy from Rolling Scissors was our hair stylist and she was so lovely to work with, even arriving with a bottle of bubbly to help start the celebrations! Melita from Boudoir Blush was also easy to work with. I loved my make-up and the beautiful natural look she gave me was exactly what I was hoping for. Sandy from Willowbud created our florals. She created the most gorgeous floral arrangements and bouquets, which accented our wedding colours beautifully. For us, our choices of suppliers was as much about the people providing the service as the product itself. My (Kristina) cousin, Rachelle Agnola created our cake. Rachelle was my mother’s flowergirl at her wedding, so having her play a significant part in our day meant the world to us. The cake had three tiers - the bottom was chocolate and raspberry, the middle was white chocolate and salted caramel and the top tier was lemon sponge. Rachelle fantastically played the roll of wedding guest and supplier, going above and beyond with ease to make sure all went to plan on what was a balmy Queensland summers’ day.”

“Theming our wedding was influenced by my love of burgundy peonies and the colours dusty rose and pastel pinks. We just went with our instinct, using Pinterest to gather our ideas together. We were going for a rustic, but tasteful mix of décor items and features to not only accent the things we love, but also the beautiful surroundings and features on offer at Flaxton Gardens. For us, the floristry was a big feature, as well as the winery. We used wine bottles to display our table numbers, as well as menus and personalised corks to display the place cards. Wine barrels were used to stand as back drops in our ceremony and Willowbud’s gorgeous standing floral bouquet designs topped them to complete a beautiful feature. The lace roses added a beautiful yesteryear feel. Robbie chose the fabric for his tailored jacket and waistcoat long before the theme was set… he’s lucky it worked perfectly!” “With the food and music being Robbie’s department, finding the perfect band meant endless youtube videos and visiting multiple showcases and events. That’s where he found The White Tree. With a large group of talented musicians to choose from, The White Tree allows you to select the musicians you want. We opted for a duo of Chris, a male guitarist/vocalist and Kirsten, a female vocalist, to play our selected ceremony songs and an upbeat set during the post-ceremony drinks and canapés. Then we added Tnee, a male vocalist/keyboardist, and our drummer and bassist to complete the full band that played the night away.” “With such a short trip and only one stop to make, we hired a large 7-seater and my dad drove the girls and I to Flaxton Gardens. It was so memorable seeing my bridesmaids and flower girls altogether with me in the one car, with dad in the driver’s seat. Mystic Mountain Tours provided transport for Robbie and his family and groomsmen then also the drop off for all our guests staying in the local area at the end of the night.”

“I stayed at The Lake Terrace, Montville. This gorgeous Queenslander was booked even before we chose the venue. I had fallen in love with the vintage features and country décor feel. Robbie was keen to have all his family and bridal party who had travelled over from Northern Ireland in the one place the night before and night of the wedding, so finding somewhere that could cater for such a large group was difficult. The Lemon Grove mansion (through Montville Real Estate) provided the perfect facilities and setting to do so.” “Our first dance was to ‘Can’t Take My Eyes off You’ by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons. We wanted a song that would set the tone and start the night off with a bang and we loved the fun feel that this song would also bring for our guests. Sure enough once the beat kicked off, everyone was on the dance floor with us roaring ‘I LOVE YOU BABY!’. “We included a prayer read by my dear Uncle Trevor during the service. We loved having him be part of our special day as a tribute also to my late mother. Not having her with us was difficult, but there were so many moments throughout the occasion where she was honoured. To close out his speech, rather than just another toast, Robbie kindly asked everyone around the tables to turn to those next to them and give each other a big hug or tell them you love them, or simply just shake their hand in greeting. This was something he had remembered fondly about my mum having always given him a warm welcome and it was a beautiful thought that he chose to honour her by. With Robbie being from Northern Ireland, we had such an unexpected number make the long trip to Australia for the wedding. It was incredibly special seeing so many of our nearest and dearest from both sides of the world in one place – very surreal actually!”

“After getting married in Australia, we headed over to the other side of the world to celebrate with Robbie’s family and friends at The Chelsea in Belfast. This was our big excuse to continue the celebrations! I had a second wedding dress made by Ruth McInnes in Mansfield. It was more relaxed and much easier to dance in. We chose to take three months from work to spend Christmas and New Year with family and friends in Northern Ireland, followed by a few weeks to travelling through Europe - Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and London. We love touring about and seeing new places, so anything to experience a different culture and of course the food is right up our alley!” “Our newlywed advice is get onto things early. Being organised helps reduce a lot of the stress as you get closer to the big day. We managed by making a gigantic geeky spreadsheet (Robbie’s fault) where everything was accounted for. This helped keep track of things given that we were also planning our overseas trip at the same time. One of our closest friends, Emma, who made the trip to Brisbane from London and was our Master of Ceremonies, told us when we got engaged to always ‘stop and smell the roses’. We truly lived by this during all the planning, decision making, and meetings and especially on the day itself. As everyone says, it really does fly by and Emma’s advice made sure we savoured every moment as best we could.” “My highlight was seeing Robbie’s face as I walked down the aisle. He broke down in tears with his head in his hands. Another highlight was the fun of getting ready with my beautiful bridesmaids at Montville Lake Terrace – it was pristine. Robbie’s highlight was seeing me walk down the aisle. ‘I intentionally kept my gaze down until I knew she was in clear sight. I’ll never forget the moment I lifted my head and looked up.’”

JESSICA + JONATHAN

“JONATHAN AND I MET WHEN WE WERE AROUND 11 YEARS OLD THROUGH SCOUTS. ALTHOUGH WE KNEW EACH OTHER, WE ONLY BECAME FRIENDS WHEN WE WENT ON A WEEK-LONG CAMP YEARS LATER. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, WE BECAME BEST FRIENDS (ONLY THAT) AND WERE ALWAYS BY EACH OTHER’S SIDE! WHEN I WAS 19, JONATHAN HAD HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY AND AFTER A COUPLE OF DRINKS AND A BIT OF DANCING, WE FINALLY LET EACH OTHER KNOW HOW WE FELT... AND WE HAVEN’T LOOKED BACK.”

Jonathan proposed to Jessica on a holiday of a lifetime to Canada and America in January 2017. “He proposed to me halfway down the ski mountain at Whistler while we were snowboarding. It was the best view and it was just the two of us.” Jessica Woodcraft and Jonathan Williams were married on 15 June 2018 in the Anglican Church of Noosa. A reception followed at Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas. The theme was simple and rustic. Our reception was certainly one to remember! We had Dennis from Music4You Brisbane as our DJ and he was absolutely amazing. We had a big age range, from kids to grandparents and he got everyone up dancing! It was amazing to see how he read the crowd and knew exactly what to play next. We had a fabulous time and couldn’t have asked for a better day!”

“To choose one highlight would be too hard. It was the best day of our lives. From getting ready with my bridesmaids to marrying each other... to the fun time we both had at our reception dancing the night away. The whole day was just perfect!” “Our advice to others planning a wedding is don’t stress! We did all our decorations, dessert bar and set up ourselves but if you worry too much, it will ruin it for you. We had fun setting it up with our family the night before with the music going! Don’t stress about buying the best of the best. I took my time and shopped online for bargains and re-purposed old things. Take your time with it and remember, you are marrying the love of your life; that’s what the day is ultimately about, so you will have an amazing day no matter what.” “Three weeks after our wedding, we went on a road trip to Cape York (the very tip of Queensland). We had an amazing adventure.”

He knew just what to play and was always reading the vibes of the crowd to see what he should play next! Dennis met with us beforehand to make sure he could make the day exactly how we wanted it! DAMON + MICHAEL

“OUR LOVE STORY BEGAN 12 YEARS AGO WHEN WE MET AT A VERY ROMANTIC LOCATION... A CLUB IN THE VALLEY! MIKE AT FIRST, WAS NOT INTERESTED IN ME. BUT I WAS PERSUASIVE! MY PERSISTENCE PAID OFF AND WE WENT ON A FEW DATES. IT BECAME AN EASY RELATIONSHIP AND WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER EVER SINCE. WHAT MAKES US A STRONG COUPLE IS THAT WE ARE A UNITED TEAM. WE HAVE SUPPORTED EACH OTHER THROUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES, ILLNESS AND GRIEF. WE SHARE THE SAME GOALS. WE COMMUNICATE WELL, RARELY ARGUE AND NEVER GO TO BED ANGRY. WE SHARE THE SAME INTERESTS, CARING FOR OUR VERY MUCH LOVED AND SPOILT PETS, BRUCE, GEORGE, BOLLY, BARNEY AND OLIVE AND SOON-TO-BE DAVE. WE BOTH ENJOY TRAVELLING, COOKING AND GOING FOR WALKS. MIKE LOVES BEING OUTSIDE AND TAKING CARE OF THE GARDEN, WHILE I LOVE TO LOOK AFTER THE INSIDE OF OUR HOUSE AND MY OCD HELPS ME TO DO THIS METICULOUSLY! FAMILY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BOTH OF US.”

Damon describes how he proposed to Mike: “It did take me around eleven years to pluck up the courage to propose to Mike. We had booked a family holiday in April/May 2018 to the USA with Mike’s sister, brother-in-law and his three nephews. When Australia finally embraced the ‘Yes’ vote, I knew exactly where I wanted to propose. I decided to do it while we were in Central Park, New York. Mikey had arranged a photographer to take family photos in Central Park and in Times Square. I took the photographer aside and told him about my plan. He then gave me some ideas and locations. When the photographer gave me ‘the nod’, I proposed next to the Bethesda Fountain. I got down on one knee, told him how much I loved him and wanted to spend the rest of my life with him and of course he was surprised and everyone clapped and cheered. Mikey said ‘Yes’ and here we are today.” Damon and Michael Gwinnell were married on 30 March 2019 in a ceremony at Kookaburra Homestead. “We were looking for somewhere unique, private and luxurious and Kookaburra Homestead at Ocean View was the perfect match. This beautiful 6.5 acre property has awardwinning gardens and scenic ocean views and provided us with the perfect setting for our ceremony and post-ceremony celebrations. Our guests were served cocktails and canapés while we had photos taken around the manicured grounds. Located on Mt Mee in the beautiful Moreton Bay Hinterland, the homestead offers luxurious touches, beautiful spaces and spectacular views to Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast. We stayed at the Homestead for two nights to really soak in the atmosphere and spend quality time with our families before and after the big day. The homestead sleeps up to 14 people so having our family stay with us made the occasion even more special.” “We had the great pleasure of having Anita Pryde as our Marriage Celebrant at our beautiful autumn wedding. Anita was attentive to our needs as grooms. She truly has a good heart. My (Damon) dad passed away three years ago and we wanted to acknowledge him in spirit so we lit a candle for him. Many people came up to Anita after the ceremony to say how ‘real’ the words were and how they enjoyed it. There was so much love in the room surrounding the both of us and for that we are forever grateful.” The reception was held at Entangled Events in Dayboro. “Entangled is a boutique event space in the grounds and main building of the Dayboro Butter Factory. It oozes character and charm with an eclectic mix of artisan-inspired furniture and objets d’ art, and a jungle of indoor plants. We took the guests on an indulgent sensory journey. It is moody, enchanted and ethereal. We started with an awesome grazing table outside under the bamboo arbour. This provided the ‘wow’ from the getgo. The food was amazing and was accompanied by a range of quality boutique wines.

“Our photographer was Colin Boxall from True North Photography. Mike and I are so happy with the photos Colin has taken and for capturing all the special moments from our big day. We have loved spending the time looking through and reliving what felt like a whirlwind, but incredible day. So many wonderful memories.” “Hair and makeup was by The Style Room on the Gold Coast. These two ladies kept the mood relaxed while we got ready. The hair and makeup was stunning on all the bridesmaids and the mothers of the grooms. Even though we lost power for an hour and a half, the girls soldiered on and did an amazing job. The florals were created by The Little Flower Market. Emma created bouquets, buttonholes and corsages for the bridal party using a soft colour palette to complement the styling and surrounds. The ceremony location was changed last-minute due to rain so Emma created a lovely ambience inside Kookaburra Homestead with florals placed above the fireplace and blooms down the aisle in keeping with the bridal party styling.”

“Our cake was created by Amanda Bakes a Cake in Brisbane. It was a delicious carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a caramel drip.” “We sourced our menus, seating charts, welcome signs, wishing well chalkboards and table numbers on Etsy. For our guest favours, we had Seed and Stem hessian styled succulents with handmade name tags.” “Brad Stokes provided the entertainment. He is an eclectic musical powerhouse with over 25 years of guitar (and drums) under his belt. Brad is a highly sought after singer and guitarist who blends smooth vocals likened to Ed Sheeran, Bernard Fanning and Pete Murray, with occasional heavy rock styles similar to Chad Kroger and Dave Grohl. He sung acoustic during the meals and then played a list of songs and requests we emailed him before the day.” “Our advice to anyone planning a wedding is to have a clear plan before you start. It will help you keep on top of everything and be sure that you don’t forget something important. Rough guest list numbers and budget should be the first things to consider. Costs per head will most likely be your biggest expense, so don’t be guilt–tripped into inviting people you don’t want to come. It’s the biggest and hardest decision but at the end of the day it’s your wedding. Make sure you have a Plan B in place in case it rains. Be organised and book early. Communicate with each other and on the day, take five minutes together to check on each other and reflect on your day.” Damon and Michael honeymooned in Hong Kong, London, Paris, Netherlands, Cancun Mexico and Los Angeles.

“My highlight was getting to marry my best friend surrounded by the people we love the most and seeing our guests eating, drinking, dancing and laughing and having an amazing time. My dad passed away three years ago and at the exact time he passed, a double rainbow formed over my mum’s house. On the day of the wedding we lit a candle in memory of him. After the ceremony and while we were getting our photos taken, it rained a little bit and all of a sudden our guests yelled out, ‘your dad is here’. A double rainbow appeared stronger than ever. The photographer captured that moment with my husband, my mum and I pointing and trying to reach out to the double rainbow. It truly was an emotional moment. My dad was there.”

BIBIANA + JASON

BIBIANA RODRIGUEZ ROMERO MARRIED JASON HERMANN IN A CATHOLIC WEDDING CEREMONY IN COLOMBIA ON 28 JULY 2018. THEY CELEBRATED THEIR MARRIAGE WITH A WEDDING RECEPTION AT CUSTOMS HOUSE IN BRISBANE ON 29 SEPTEMBER 2018. JASON MET BIBIANA IN THE SUBWAY STORE SHE MANAGED IN FORTITUDE VALLEY. “WE CROSSED PATHS AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE WEEK LEADING UP TO CHRISTMAS WHEN EACH OF US WAS DRAGGED RELUCTANTLY BY FRIENDS TO FRIDAY’S RIVERSIDE.”

Jason describes how he proposed to Bibiana: “Given that our birthdays are only three weeks apart, I hired The Joinery at West End and invited about 85 family and friends for a ‘combined birthday party’. My good friend, Mojo Webb and his band played for us and I got up halfway through the night to play guitar with them and then took a shot at singing the Etta James song ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’, after which I got down on bended knee and proposed in Spanish.” “Bibiana and I were very fortunate to have a spectacular wedding and reception in Colombia (Bibi’s country of origin). We had another reception in Brisbane at Customs House. With such a distance and so many family members, this was the only way to ensure all of our collective family and friends were involved. The Catholic ceremony was conducted in English and Spanish by Father Juan Carlos Leon Gonzalez in the Chapel of Hacienda Montecano. The chapel and reception area is surrounded by magnificent gardens and rolling hills in a renowned horse breeding region just outside of Bogota. Our amazing wedding planner, Nelson Hoyos arranged for L´Arte Eventos to photograph and film the occasion.”

Bibiana’s brother, Robby Rodriguez Romero created the invitations which were printed in Colombia. Music, lighting and the MC were provided by G&M Event Group. The cake was made by my (Jason) niece, Taryn Stewart from Zaber Creations. Photography and videography was provided by Studio SW19. “We had a photo booth supplied by In The Booth which was a huge hit with our guests.” Bibiana’s dress was created by Alvaro Barragan (Colombian Designer). “Alvarito made sure I felt happy and comfortable while he created my stunning white gown, which was exactly like I always dreamed. Aurora Amaya (Colombian Designer) is one of my mum´s long-time friends and a professional tailor. She made the beautiful dresses for our bridesmaids.” “Our Brisbane reception was held in The Long Room at Customs House. Customs House is

a clear vessel to create layers. We chose blue and yellow which were the favourite colours

of Bibiana’s father and my mother, who sadly

an iconic venue and The Long Room is the ‘jewel in the crown’ with its historic charm and spectacular location overlooking the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. It was a visual delight to enter and our guests likened it to a fairy-tale. Rebecca Neubauer from Customs House organised the floral decorations and was so helpful, making sure everything for our big day was perfect and indeed it was!” “We played a video we made to showcase our lives growing up, meeting, holidaying, the proposal and our wedding in Colombia, along with tributes to our parents, all backed with cuts from many of our favourite songs from our birth years - 1972 and 1981.”

“For the first dance we chose ‘What A Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. Selecting a song for the bridal waltz is never easy and we felt the song had to convey our love for each other and our friends and family; and the gratitude for all that we have in our lives and this world. It was very important for us that it be a song which will stand the test of time and remain as beautiful and relevant when we play it for our grandchildren as it was on our special day. Our second dance was to ‘Cancion del Mariachi’ by Los Lobos and Antonio Banderas. This song featured in the opening scene of one of our favourite movies, ‘Desperado’ featuring Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayek (who my wife Bibiana just happens to resemble). It was an obvious choice for a more up-tempo and sexy dance to contrast the bridal waltz.” “Bibiana had always wanted to go to Europe. I had been and actually asked Bibiana to be my girlfriend while I was holidaying in Florence with a mate about five years ago, so we had to include it in our honeymoon. We started in Nice then Monaco, Rome, Florence (for Christmas), Zurich, Swiss Alps, Paris (New Year’s) and Frankfurt. It was amazing!” Bibiana’s Highlights: “Colombia: Everything was perfect thanks to God, our parents and our Australian friends and family who travelled so far to spend a wonderful time with my family and friends. Brisbane: A perfect venue, beautifully decorated and perfectly timed to coincide with Riverfire! My biggest highlight was having my mum for the first time in Australia to celebrate our big day with us.” Jason’s Highlights: “So many! Entering The Long Room full of cheering family and friends; the beautiful speeches; Riverfire, and my cousin and uncle performing. It was a wonderful surprise when my cousin, Dana Kingsford (professional Opera singer) sang ‘Ave Maria’ accompanied by her father, Reg Kingsford on piano. You could have heard a pin drop and the acoustics were incredible. They received an extended standing ovation. My biggest highlight would have to be the bridal waltz with my beautiful wife.“

“We had Colombian carnival props for ‘Crazy Hour’ which is a very typical way in Colombia to show the happy culture - full of dances, colours, happiness, sombreros, flower necklaces, colourful masks and high-energy Colombian music.”

“Our newlywed advice is go all out and do what you have always dreamed. You will not get this day again and it is a day you will always treasure, so put in the effort and spend the money - it’s worth it!

AMY + CLAYTON “CLAYTON AND I FIRST MET IN 2012 WHEN WE WERE WORKING FOR LEIGHTON CONTRACTORS AT DAWSON NORTH COAL MINE IN MOURA, CENTRAL QUEENSLAND. WE HAD A LOT OF MUTUAL FRIENDS. WE WERE NOT FRIENDS AT THE TIME, BUT WE KNEW OF EACH OTHER. IN 2014, AFTER I HAD LEFT LEIGHTONS, I ATTENDED A COUNTRY RACE DAY WITH A GIRLFRIEND. I STARTED CHATTING TO CLAYTON AND AS THEY SAY, THE REST IS HISTORY! WE HAVE BEEN INSEPARABLE EVER SINCE. WE EVEN THREW IN OUR JOBS AND MOVED TO THE MIDLANDS IN ENGLAND TO LIVE FOR A YEAR PRETTY SOON AFTER WE FIRST STARTED DATING.”

Amy describes the proposal: “Clayton took me away for my 29th birthday to Alinghi Beach House at Agnes Water. On the original weekend he had planned to take me there as a birthday surprise, there were severe thunderstorms and flash flooding and we were unable to get through. We ended up going a week later when the flooding had subsided. I honestly thought we were just going for my birthday. Clayton got down on one knee as we were relaxing on the deck overlooking the ocean late one afternoon and asked me to marry him.”

Amy Pointing and Clayton Tarry held their destination wedding at the Marriott Resort, Momi Bay, Fiji on 20 September 2018. “A lot of our friends are farmers and small business owners and we wanted to have a week long celebration in a beautiful location with all of our favourite people. It made our wedding stretch out over a week and we loved each and every second. We wanted something fun but still elegant that would last the test of time. When they arrived in Fiji, each guest was given a tote bag full of goodies as a keepsake. My sister’s best friend helped me design the bags and their contents.”

“Our first dance was to ‘My Best Friend’ by Tim McGraw, which was the song Clayton played when he proposed. We honeymooned in a luxurious overwater bungalow at the Marriott, where we spent eight beautiful nights.” “Our newlywed advice is to make sure your wedding is enjoyable and a day you can both remember fondly. Also, find a photographer who makes you feel comfortable! Jess was a beautiful person who we enjoyed spending a big chunk of our special day with.” “My highlights were walking down the aisle and seeing Clayton waiting for me with a smile on his face, and dancing the night away to the amazing 5 piece band. Clayton’s highlight was ‘Marrying my best friend’.”

ZIVA WEDDING DRESSES

There are so many emotions that come with planning a wedding and, of course, everyone wants their skin to look the best it can when that day arrives. Having the right preparation and skincare routine in the months leading up to your event is key. Vitamin B5 is also key. Vitamin B5 (and a tonne of other skin-loving nutrients) can be found in every product from Australian skincare brand, skinB5. Here’s how to combat some common problems brides and grooms may be facing before their big day. STRESS Stress causes your body to produce more hormones (such as cortisol), which means your skin creates more oils, making it more susceptible to breakouts. • Use skinB5’s Skin Purifying Mask to remove oils and revitalise pores. You can also dab on the mask as a spot treatment overnight. • Take 1 tsp of the Clear Skin Superfood Booster which contains 63 ingredients, including Ashwagandha, a stress-relieving ingredient that also supports immunity and gut health. REDNESS Weddings usually mean a full day of photography. Red and irritated skin can be emphasised in professional and iPhone photography. • The Australian Botanicals Cleansing Mousse and Hydration Essence are made up of 8 super active phyto extracts that contain anti-inflammatory and anti-pigmentation agents which reduce redness and puffiness. Use them regularly in the months leading up to your wedding to remove redness from the source. • Add the Skin Purfying Mask into your foundation – it helps conceal any redness on your big day. ENLARGED PORES AND SCARRING • Take Extra Strength Acne Control Vitamins every day for at least 3-4 months prior to your wedding day. The patented formulation can really help shrink pores, lighten up scarring and restore the glow to your skin, allowing easier application of makeup. These vitamins aren’t just great for skin; they strengthen nails, hair, enhance immunity, boost energy levels, promote healing and regeneration (think new skin!), support inner balance and improve your body’s response to stress. Order online or find your nearest stockist www.skinb5.com

Congratulations Bridie. Bridie Willis is an Australian bride who had persistent cystic acne for many years and with an impending wedding, she was urged to find a solution. VitaminB5 – the immune-boosting vitamin - was that solution for Bridie that worked to gradually improve her skin and overall health from the inside. Bridie overcame her cystic ance through a skincare routine that uses products from Australian skincare and wellness brand, skinB5. skinB5’s Extra Strength Acne Control Vitamins, Acne Control Cleansing Mousse, Acne Control Moisturiser, and Skin Purifying Mask, all contain the all-important B5 vitamin in combination with other natural ingredients that calm the skin and reduce redness and inflammation.

FUN, UNIQUE HANDCRAFTED MEN’S ACCESSORIES, DESIGNED ON THE COAST OF VICTORIA, FILL GAP IN THE MARKET. Showcasing Australian native flora, including banksias, colourful proteas and striking waratahs, PEGGY AND FINN’s collection of printed ties, bowties, pocket squares and socks feature unique and bold designs, packed full of personality. Founded by Torquay-based mates, Jarrod Craven and Olly Parsons, PEGGY AND FINN was born out of a need to create outside-the-box designs that provide men with the opportunity to showcase their individual style. “When Olly was looking for accessories for his wedding, we soon realised there was a gap in the market for unique, bespoke and handcrafted men’s accessories that were different to everything else available”, explains Peggy And Finn Co-Founder Jarrod Craven. “After being unable to find what we were looking for, Jarrod decided to make some wooden bow ties himself, and that was really the beginning of PEGGY AND FINN”, said Co-Founder Olly Parsons. Initially launching with men’s wooden bow ties, the PEGGY AND FINN collection has since expanded, with the introduction of a range of printed ties, socks, pocket squares, cufflinks, wooden suspenders and tie bars. And there may be some printed men’s underwear coming soon too! It is the bright and bold prints that really set PEGGY AND FINN apart. “Being surrounded by the natural beauty of the Victorian coast, we are constantly inspired by the environment”, said Parsons. “Ultimately we just want the men who wear our accessories to have fun with their style and not take it too seriously. Whether it be in their 9-5 job or to a wedding or special event, when they wear our designs we hope they can show off their own unique point of view and stand out from the crowd”, adds Craven.
