GUCCI’S ICONIC FLORA MOTIF The signature pattern is tied to Gucci’s history, and dates back to 1966 when Rodolfo Gucci commissioned illustrator Vittorio Accornero to create the most beautiful print he could imagine for Princess Grace of Monaco. The ‘Flora’, a sumptuous, multi-hued, flowered template was thus destined to become a classic. A Gucci flora silk scarf is cut in small pieces and inserted in the mould, giving each a unique pattern, depending on which part of the scarf is inserted. Keep an eye out for these stunning frames from May 2015.

Morgan’s Beach Shack, Sorrento, Victoria... a different kind of DESTINATION WEDDING venue Bare feet. Board shorts. A pint of prawns. A mojito on arrival. It doesn’t quite sound like your traditional wedding experience, but then again Morgan’s Beach Shack is not your average venue. Since opening its doors in 2014, Morgan’s Beach Shack has established a firm following and is now hosting weddings and events. With panoramic views of the Mornington Peninsula, Morgan’s Beach Shack has a very distinctive visual narrative that pays homage to its enviable seaside setting. The interiors are layered with recycled materials: lobster pots are turned into lampshades, lifebuoys are suspended from old timber beams, and a pair of rowing oars sits against sandstone bricks. Taking cues from Baja-style cuisine, a Californian take on Mexican; Morgan’s has quickly gained a reputation for serving some of the best burgers, tacos and seafood in town. Morgan’s Beachshack partners with the Peninsula Kombi Bus company to offer tailored packages for wedding & special events. www.beachshacksorrento.com.au

From sexy plunging necklines to beautiful pastilles and beading, we have this season’s top emerging bridal trends as spotted by WHITE LILY COUTURE Style Director, Alera Kingham on the 2015 Fall bridal runways:
Fall 2015...
“
Every single designer attending the showings for the upcoming seasons showcased beautiful colours. From soft pinks and peaches to natural nudes and champagnes. Even blues and mint greens made an appearance! It was exciting to see the traditional ocean of ivory and off white turn into a delicate spectrum of modern bridal tones.

A couple of seasons ago we saw a huge trend away from beadwork and sparkle. In 2015/2016 designers are really experimenting with crystals, pearl and Swarovski detailing. From heavily-encrusted styles through to a delicate sprinkle of shimmer, many of the gowns we saw were definitely trending.

Bridal style always comes in waves and riding the rip this season is sexy, sexy, sexy! Sultry styles with superlow backs, open corset finishes, nude linings and curvy silhouettes could not be missed at the showings. We’re even seeing a shift from the beloved sweetheart neckline to lower cut illusion styles with just enough skin on display. To master this runway cue, check out Ilyssa by Enzoani. Ilyssa’s deep illusion neckline brings sexy back with an elegant, bridal worthy edge.

Lace is Forever
“
While the new trends are prominent, one strong theme still remains... lace. The use of French lace appliqués is still very fashionable and will continue to be popular for some time. Lace gives modern styles the edge... whether it be layering of various lace patterns or the hint of lace detailing beneath layers of soft tulle, lace is most certainly here to stay!

baby’s breath
Way back in the 1970’s it was hard to find a bouquet that didn’t feature these delicately pretty little flowers. Baby’s Breath is inexpensive and hardy and is a great filler for bouquets and floral arrangements... just some of the reasons it’s trending again, according to Jenny from Floriginality who created these beautiful bouquets.

Destination Wedding on
Heavenly Hamilton Island
Josiane Joubran & Sam Sfeir - 2014
“
We met at university in Lebanon and moved to Australia five years later. Sam proposed on our anniversary, which happens to be just a few days before my birthday. He booked a surprise holiday for both of us to Daydream Island in the Whitsundays, and I only found out the destination that same morning just before we boarded the flight. On the night of our anniversary he proposed and offered me the engagement ring which he was hiding from me the whole time we were on the island. It was one of the most beautiful moments of our lives, just the two of us, near the beach, on a remote island, with perfect weather! We wanted to get married in the Whitsundays because we got engaged on Daydream Island. We compared wedding packages on a couple of the Whitsundays islands and chose Hamilton Island. We were inviting a few guests from overseas as well as from around Australia and we knew everybody would enjoy the whole ‘Hamilton Island’ experience of swim-up bars, beautiful sandy beaches and cruising around in an electric golf buggy!
“
Our wedding planner at Hamilton Island Weddings helped us create our perfect wedding. She was extremely friendly and liaised with all the suppliers. A few weeks before the wedding, we flew up and spent a day with her, going over the details and visiting the locations. Getting married to a Project Manager is a bonus because Sam had even prepared a rundown sheet for the day to make sure nothing fell through the cracks! The ceremony was held in the island’s All Saints Chapel and the reception was in the Outrigger Marquee. My dress was ‘Tahira’ by Mori Lee and my bridesmaids also wore Mori Lee dresses… all from White Lily Couture in Brisbane. Hair and makeup was by the team at Island Hair and Beauty. Sam and the groomsmen wore black tuxedo suits by Hugo Boss. The colour theme was royal blue to complement the setting of the ocean and my love of Singapore orchids. The flowers were by Flora Collections on Hamilton Island and featured Singapore blue orchids, ivory roses and white orchids. Our dark chocolate and rum mud cake was showcased on an illuminated cake stand. Our first dance was to ‘Amazed’ by Lonestar. This is the song Sam presented to me on the first CD he created for us when we started dating.” Photography courtesy Justin Blake. “Justin was recommended by our wedding planner and we were so happy with the results. We spent our honeymoon in Fiji in an overwater bungalow.

Newlywed Advice
“
If you are planning a destination wedding, our advice is to make sure you visit the venue prior to the wedding date. Don’t just ‘assume’ that everything will be perfect, a lot of work goes into wedding planning! Not everything looks the same as it does in a photo, that’s why you need to visit the ceremony and reception venues a few weeks before your wedding and meet with your wedding coordinators in person as well as the florists, decorators and entertainment providers... and discuss the timeline, table plans, lighting options, bridal table location, food and drinks... and everything else! The wedding day itself goes incredibly fast. Try to relax, breathe deep, and enjoy every moment. Make sure you take a few minutes to forget about everything else around you and just hold your partner’s hand, look in their eyes and tell them that you love them.

Kate Ziakas & Michael Lonergan 13.09.14
“
I was a venue manager at the restaurant and bar next to Michael’s office. He often called in for a drink or two, and eventually worked up the courage to ask me out and the rest is history! The proposal happened on our two year anniversary when we went out to dinner at Southbank. Whilst we were out, our friends (Tony & Bernice) went to our house, and following strict instructions prepared the house with tealight candles lining our hallway, and a dozen roses, iced champagne and Michael’s first Valentine’s gift (Romeo the cuddly bear) in the living room. As we were leaving dinner, Tony lit the candles and as we arrived at the house. I was stunned to see the set-up. By the time I got to the champagne, Michael was down on bended knee. Our ceremony was held at Brisbane Powerhouse (Riverbend Terrace) and conducted by Tony Hennessy, Celebrant. The reception was at the BRISBANE POLO CLUB in the Morgan Room. My dress was from Winnie Bridal and the bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung dresses from Casar Elegance. Hair was by Hare’s Hair and makeup by Samantha Nash. The boys wore bespoke suits by Wil Valor. All of the vendors and suppliers we dealt with were fantastic, particularly Sandy from Always Fabulous Flowers and Jayne at the Brisbane Polo Club who went absolutely above and beyond. Our cake was by Cakes by Simone and theming was by Elegant Settings. Our wedding cars were London Cabs supplied by A Golden Roller. We had incredible support from family and friends who assisted with all the little things in the lead up to and on the big day, especially both of our mums. Our friend, Sam Eldridge, played the beautiful grand piano at the Brisbane Polo Club during our pre-dinner drinks. We then partied on with our own playlist. Our first dance was to ‘Baby Grand’ a duet by Billy Joel & Ray Charles. Billy Joel is one of my (Kate’s) favourite artists and the first time Michael heard this song playing in a friend’s car, he knew it was the one. Photography courtesy Andrew Tallon Photographer.

“
We met through a friend at Southern Cross University in Lismore in 2009. That friend set the whole relationship up and ended up being our Best Man! Shane proposed in a magical setting at one of our most favourite chill out spots, Coopers Shoot Road overlooking Byron Bay. We stopped off there on Boxing Day 2013 on our drive from Sydney to the Gold Coast. Shane had planned it very well. While we were enjoying the view, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We then spent the night at the Summerhouse, which is a stunning accommodation on Cooper Shoot Road overlooking Byron Bay. It topped off a great moment in our lives. My Mum, sisters and bridesmaids all helped to make the day possible. Lots of fun ‘crafternoon’ sessions were spent making candles (wedding gifts/name cards), sewing table runners, creating signage, a table seating chart, napkins, etc. They also planned a bridal shower for me with the ladies attending the wedding. The Byron Beach Café event coordinators also helped me plan the big day, providing guidance and inside local knowledge on how to scope the perfect day. I found our invitations and all other wedding collateral at Beth of all Trades on Etsy. We wanted a navy and white theme. Beth was very accommodating and no request was too hard.
“
Lisa MacDonald from PURPLE DAZE HAIR STUDIO in Brisbane was our hair stylist. She made the day extra fun. Lisa was with us from very early in the morning and was also a guest at our wedding as her partner was one of our groomsmen.
“
Our ceremony was held on Clarkes Beach, Byron Bay, at 4pm and was coordinated by The Byron Beach Café. The reception was at the Byron Beach Café, which is located directly behind the ceremony location overlooking Byron Bay – stunning view! My dress was by Made with Love Bridal. I wore the ‘Carla’ dress. The bridesmaids wore navy maxi dresses which we ordered through Made With Love Bridal. The colour matched the trousers worn by the groomsmen. The boys wore clothes from Industrie... navy chino pants and a white open collared relaxed shirt with boat shoes. Sarah-Jayne from Lady Bella did our makeup. The flowers were by Passionate Flowers, Byron Bay and our cake was by Rebellious Cake Co. I made all the decorations for our wedding reception.
My Mum tied her wedding ring around my bouquet as a token of good luck and well wishes.
“
We hired a VW Kombi through Coast 58 atw Byron Bay. It was in theme with the vibe of Byron Bay and our wedding.

I had always liked the navy and white theme. I had seen it done before and thought I’d adopt it and put my own spin on things.

Newlywed Advice

Stick to your own ideas and don’t let others tell you what you can and cannot do. This is the one time in your life where you can be selfish. Enjoy the lead up to the big day, soak up the ceremony and reception… it really does go by so fast! Enjoy the early stages of married life as it is easy to settle back into your premarriage routine.

Honeymoon
“
My husband is a keen surfer, but does not like to go to the beach and sunbake if there are no waves. So he set a couple of honeymoon rules - one being no tropical holiday! We both love the snow and snowboarding so we decided to go to Japan on a ‘snow trip’ so we could both enjoy it. We went to two ski resort towns on the island of Hokkaido, Furano and Niseko. Following the snow, we spent 4 days in Tokyo. All up, we were away for one month.
“
Our first dance was to ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. This is a song we have both loved for a very long time and feel it best describes us as a couple.

Glengariff Historic Estate ALDA MONTEIRO & OSCAR NINASIVINCHE were married on 25 January 2013 at Our Lady Of Victories Church. “We chose this gorgeous church because of its architecture which reminded us both of churches we love in Peru and Portugal. It tied in with our ‘classic, old world’ theme perfectly and captured our cultural backgrounds. I wore a gown by Mori Lee New York from WHITE LILY COUTURE and hair styling and makeup was by THE POWDER ROOM. Our reception was held at GLENGARIFF HISTORIC ESTATE. This gorgeous family estate perfectly suited our classically romantic wedding theme. The wonderful Channing took such care of us and our guests and made sure our day ran smoothly! We didn’t have to worry about a thing which allowed us to really sit back and enjoy every second with our family and friends. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful - they really went above and beyond to ensure we had a beautiful day. We love this venue and it will forever hold a special place in our hearts!” Photos courtesy Milque Photography & Films.

The Greek Club ELENI PIPPOS & NATHAN KOZIONAS were married on 14 June 2014. The ceremony was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George at West End and the reception was at THE GREEK CLUB. “Mrs Caterina Antonini, a very close family friend, made my wedding dress as well as my mother’s and Anna’s dresses. Special thanks to this very special lady who, at 70 years old, created a hand beaded and sewn piece of art - my wedding dress. I love the look of an outdoor wedding with hanging flowers and a fairylight canopy and worked with Styled Events to recreate the look indoors... ‘rustic with a touch of glitter and sparkle’. The cars were from Kenz Classic (bridal car) and LIMOSO AUSTRALIA. Our wedding favours were little jars of olive oil with a sprig of rosemary from my grandmother’s garden. Our hobby is eating and we also love cooking together and thought it reflected us both as well as being a practical gift for our guests! Our first dance was to ‘All of Me’ by John Legend. We chose PORFYRI PHOTOGRAPHY to capture our wedding day.”
MELISSA PERRY & JEREMY PHILPOTT were married on 29 March 2014. They had a beautiful riverside ceremony followed by a reception at The Landing at Dockside, Kangaroo Point. at Our Lady Of Victories Church. “We chose an aqua and white colour theme as aqua is my (Melissa’s) favourite colour and it perfectly suited the waterfront setting. I made the bonbonniere myself... coconut and lime soy candles. Our first dance was to ‘Beautiful in My Eyes’ by Joshua Kadison... the words couldn’t be more perfect! The girls were all dressed by Princess Collections Adelaide and the boys by Roger David. Our gorgeous flowers were created by Agnes from ANGIE’S FLORAL DESIGN... I just love her work!” Photos by Shona Henderson Photography.

Flaxton Gardens did such an amazing job, from start to finish. Georgina, Alan and the team were so professional and helpful, offering

Highlights Rachael: “There was absolutely nothing I could complain about, every service I used did their job so perfectly. It was just so special that everyone had such a lovely time. The biggest highlights would be marrying Chris, dancing with my father, and capturing amazing photos with my photographer and bridal party.” Chris: “Using my remotecontrolled truck to transport the rings down the aisle!” RACHAEL & CHRIS’ WEDDING IS FEATURED IN THE 2015 EDITION OF BRISBANE BRIDE MAGAZINE.

“ Highlights Nicole: “The highlight of the day for me was the unveiling of the dance floor and the dancing. Now, the rain had made my dress a bit of a mess and my satin shoes had gotten a little soggy, so I changed into another dress I had brought. This made our first dance so much easier. Nathaniel and I couldn’t take our eyes off each other. The fog from the dry ice smoke machine made the moment feel magical! The song we picked was quite dramatic and beautiful.”
Our ceremony was held at Maleny Botanic Gardens and the reception was at VUE DE LUMIERES. We had a lot of really great vendors who helped us out along the way. The person we liaised with the most, and who helped us organise the largest number of things was Kerry Cosgrove of Vue de Lumieres. Even though our ceremony was at a different location, Kerry still wanted to check that things were going to go smoothly over there and organised a marquee for us at the ceremony site as a wet weather option. Photos courtesy Helen McConnell Photography.
Nathaniel: “After the ceremony it started to rain so we were trapped under the marquee. However, after the rain had passed, there was a rainbow which made for some beautiful shots and made me feel incredibly lucky!”

Destination Wedding Inspiration Winter Weddings... Queenstown style ELIZABETH CUSICK & DAVID BARKER 26.07.14 Story by Courtney Barker Photos courtesy Alpine Image Company www.alpineimages.co.nz The biggest question I faced was: “What on earth do I wear to a wedding in the snow… in minus four degrees?” Like many of my fellow Queenslanders, my idea of a dream wedding included sun, surf and sand. That was until I visited Queenstown in New Zealand for a winter wedding! It was truly eye opening and has set the standard for my own wedding (fingers crossed not too far away... Curtis!!!) Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital, greeted us with minus four degrees and rugged snow-capped mountains... and we couldn’t wait for our five days of wedding festivities to begin! This wedding was extra special to me. One of my closest cousins, Dave (I have 39 first cousins and I love them all very much) was about to marry a wild girl from Cairns, the gorgeous Libby Cusick. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect setting for a white winter wedding. It was something from a fairytale. Celebrating in such chilly conditions... with the temperature pushing zero degrees at times... gave us a sense of togetherness and adventure and these gorgeous photos will give you just a hint of the atmosphere of this wonderful winter wedding. How can I even start to describe the scenery? It was like we were standing in a postcard! We all quickly gathered inside the church... not only to keep warm, but also because we couldn’t wait to see the bride walk down the aisle. Dave looked so cute standing at the front with his best mates. His hair perfectly combed and gelled (as Libby requested) and that smile I will never forget! And then, with a burst of fresh Amisfield air, in walked the gorgeous bridesmaids (two of my cousins among the beauty) and the man of honour – that’s right, MAN of honour! And... in true ‘Libby style’... she tried to kiss Dave when she reached the altar, forgetting she had to go through the nuptials first and then wait for the announcement of the kiss. After tears of joy from the entire congregation, we made our way to the cottage for mulled wine, oysters and s’mores. We gathered by the fireplace while the wedding party was taken by double decker bus to capture some breathtaking photos. I was having such a wonderful time when I noticed everyone was being moved back onto the bus. I thought it was the end of the celebrations, but my Uncle announced we were heading to Amisfield for dinner. And just five minutes down the country road, we stopped at another spectacular location. It felt like we had arrived at the old family home for a traditional roast dinner around the fireplace. It was simple, yet stunning and the idea of sharing and passing around the food was so welcoming. We enjoyed the food, photo booth, speeches and cake... until 8pm when we were strongly advised by the venue to head back to town in case of an unexpected blizzard which would mean we could get stuck there! I couldn’t think of a better place in the world to get ‘stuck.’ There was certainly enough mulled wine and food to get us through a few days. Back on the red double decker bus, Libby announced we were headed to the FINAL location for the evening – Bardeaux, a little wine bar in the heart of Queenstown. Bardeaux played host to those who wanted to kick on and dance and of course start on the celebratory shots! By this time Libby had tied the bottom of her gown in a knot so she could really get her dance moves going. Libby, your beauty shines through your smile and I cannot welcome you enough to the Barker clan... you really are just one of us... Happy ever after Dave and Libby x Courtney

BARCELONA... ESPANA
HALF-DAY BIKE TOUR A great way to see the highlights of this cosmopolitan city in a short time is on a guided half-day bike tour. You will be constantly stopping at traffic lights and to take in points of interest along the way. The pace is relaxed and there are no hills to conquer. The excellent English-speaking tour guides will show you the main attractions of Barcelona - including a stop outside Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia. There are no hills and the pace is easy. Stopping to have lunch (and a well-deserved drink at an outdoor beach bar overlooking the Mediterranean) is an absolute highlight. TAP Portugal flies direct from Lisbon to Barcelona (approx AUD $141 per person inc taxes) www.flytap.com
La Sagrada Familia finally has an approximate completion date... 2026 (or 2028)... more than 140 years after the first stone was laid. What would Gaudi think!!!
Park G端ell Another architectural masterpiece by the uber-talented Gaudi is Park G端ell, located in the hills overlooking the city of Barcelona and the Mediterranean. Access to the Monumental Zone of Park G端ell is limited to 400 tickets every half hour so it is best to purchase tickets (approx 7 EURO) in advance at www.parkguell.cat. A ticket will allow you to visit the most iconic parts of the park at the reserved times and go directly to the entrance checking point if you have a printed ticket or have the QR code on your smart phone or tablet. The views of the city and sea are spectacular. www.parkguell.cat
SAN SEBASTIAN... ESPANA A fast and comfortable train ride north of Barcelona will take you through the Plains of Spain to the northern coastal city of San Sebastian. The city lies at the northwest end of the Pyrenees mountain range and is close to the French border. The climate is mild all year round, with steady rainfall throughout the seasons. San Sebastian’s weather isn’t as sought after as other Spanish coastal destinations as the days are often dull and dreary with rainy periods and sunny interludes. Don’t let the weather deter you from visiting this picturesque city. Its stunning coastline makes it one of the most popular beach resorts in all of northern Spain. San Sebastian is the favourite destination for wealthy Spaniards who want to escape the tourism masses in the south of Spain. The city is sheltered by Isla de Santa Clara and bordered on one side by Mount Urgull and on the other side by Mount Igeldo and is built around the beautiful Bay de La Concha, a crescentshaped beach in the Basque Country. The open-top bus tour is a great way to see this beautiful city, but do take a brolly and a sun hat and you will probably need both before the ride is over! The tapas bars in San Sebastian are legendary and are the best way to sit, relax and enjoy the local wines while tasting the many flavours which Spain is famous for.

VIVA ITALIA... FIRENZE
Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and is the most populated city in Tuscany. Famous for its history, Florence was a centre of medieval European trade and finance and known to be the birthplace of the Renaissance. It is easy to spend days wandering around this historic and very romantic city. And when you can drag yourself away from all this shopping and culture, there are many tours which depart from Florence to take you into the amazingly beautiful Tuscan countryside. We stayed in the heart of downtown Florence in a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment with all the modern conveniences of home. Located above a fabulous Italian Restaurant, the apartment is air-conditioned and quiet with an ensuited main bedroom. “Grazie Alessandro for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous apartment Condotta Suite 14, Piazza Signoria, Via della Condotta, Florence www.airbnb.com.au alessandro@alessandrogiuliattini.com.
TUSCANY IN ONE DAY
TUSCANY IN ONE DAY
WALKABOUT TOURS www.walkaboutflorence.com/italy-tuscany-florence-tours Famous for a wealth of art, history, striking landscapes and outstanding produce, Tuscany really does have the best of all worlds! If you don’t have a lot of time to spare, this tour will allow you to experience the best Tuscany has to offer on a full-day guided coach trip from Florence. There will be time to explore the Gothic city of Siena (famous for its medieval streets) on a guided walking tour which includes a visit to the Gothic cathedral. Next is a visit to an organic wine estate to enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch and wine tasting among the Sienese Hills, where Chianti wine is produced. You will be seated at long tables on the shaded verandah overlooking the vineyards (just like the movies). After lunch you will visit San Gimignano where you can roam the maze of cobbled streets and small squares, grab a gelato and walk between San Gimignano’s famous 14 towers. Your final stop is Pisa, where you can make an up-close inspection of the Leaning Tower, view the Cathedral, the Baptistery and monumental Cemetery in Pisa before returning to Florence.
ONLINE
A visit to Siena will transport you back to the Middle Ages. The grand cathedral, built in the 1200s, has treasured artworks and marvellous marble floors. The Piazza del Campo, the main town square (above) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also home to the Palio, perhaps the most infamous horse race in the world. This is a medieval tradition involving bareback riders racing on cobblestones. Siena is an easy day trip by train from Florence, just 43 miles away.
DAY TRIP TO CINQUE TERRE
WALKABOUT TOURS www.walkaboutflorence.com/italytuscany-florence-tours Join the only tour that takes you to the Cinque Terre on a one-day hiking trip from Florence. Hiking is the only way to truly experience the magic of the Cinque Terre. Take a break from the bustle of the city to hike this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. It’s a unique and memorable experience, exploring the only unspoilt survivor of the genuine Italian Riviera. You don’t need to be super-fit to hike on this tour. You will be hiking between two of the five villages which form Cinque Terre (which translates to Five Lands and is comprised of the five small coastal villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso in the Italian region of Liguria). At the end of the hike, you will be treated to a fabulous lunch in a local restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean and the hillsides covered with vineyards. There’s time to discover the villages on foot and also a train ride between villages. You can take a swim in the clear blue water at Vernazza or Monterosso and (weather permitting) a 40 minute boat ride along the Riviera, giving you a totally different perspective of this amazing region. An air-conditioned coach will be waiting to take you back to Florence.
DAY TRIP TO CINQUE TERRE
MILANO... MAGNIFICO !!!
Anyone who has been to Milan will tell you not to miss visiting the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) which was described by Mark Twain as ‘a poem in marble’. You won’t be able to miss it as all roads virtually lead to this Gothic masterpiece which took nearly six centuries (1386 to 1813) to complete and is the fifth largest cathedral in the world (and the largest in Italy). There is a lift outside which takes you up to the Duomo rooftops where, on a clear day, you can see the Alps. Another way to see Milan is to hop on one of the red open top tourist buses for a guided tour of downtown. Milan is one of the world’s fashion capitals, and home to both Leonardo’s Last Supper and the world’s premier opera house, La Scala. This commercial hub also boasts art galleries, excellent restaurants, hotels and designer shops. Milan is currently undergoing upgrades to prepare to host the EXPO World Fair in 2015. We stayed at a luxury serviced apartment in downtown Milan and were thrilled to be upgraded to their best suite, with the main bedroom window directly facing the magnificent Duomo... spectacular !!!

LAKE COMO... SPLENDIDO !!! The northern Italian resort town of Como sits at the tip of Lake Como in Lombardy. Ringed with palatial villas, manicured gardens and snow-capped Alps, Lake Como is one of the most popular day-trip destinations from Milan. Wander through the town’s arcaded streets and very stylish shops, and relax under the trees in the lake-front gardens before taking a cruise on the lake. Other scenic towns dotted around the 146 square kilometre lake include Bellagio, Bellano, Menaggio and Lecco. Take a ferry ride on the lake to Bellagio, which is the prettiest of these towns, and have lunch at one of the outdoor restaurants overlooking the lake. After lunch you can catch a ferry back to Como, or take a local bus. The bus ride gives you a different perspective and there are some amazing views as the bus winds its way around the glacial lake to the train station for your return trip to Milan. Our tip: Catch the first train in the morning and the last train back to Milan because once you get to Lake Como, just like George and Madonna, you won’t want to leave! Trains depart from Milano Centrale and it takes around one hour to arrive at the Como Lago station.
FROM MILAN TO MYKYNOS We flew from Milan to the magical island of Mykonos (via Athens) and were greeted by a courtesy vehicle to take us to one of the most beautiful resorts I have stayed in... anywhere!!! MYCONIAN VILLAS at Elia Beach Offering magnificent views of the Aegean Sea and famous Elia Beach, Myconian Villas is an exquisite all-villa luxury resort which combines minimalist elegance and high-end luxury in an alluring blend of cutting-edge art and design. Designed to offer guests ultimate privacy, total relaxation and five-star personalised services, these superb villas feature magnificent interiors, state-of the art amenities and outstanding facilities, including gourmet restaurants, private infinity pools and a world-class thalasso spa centre. We were treated to a luxury spa experience during our stay which was second to none. www.mykonosluxuryvillas.com www.myconiancollection.gr

From discreet elegance to sheer glamour, they provide the perfect ambience for a truly dreamy and romantic occasion in stunning surroundings. Their professional and welcoming staff are always on hand to assist with all details of your glorious Mykonos wedding.
Little Venice... Mykonos
Even though Mykonos has a reputation for being the ‘party island’, we stayed at this beautiful resort and went to Little Venice and dined in the restaurants, drank at the bars, walked the shopping streets at night... and everything was idyllic and very romantic. Mykonos and Santorini are both ideal for destination weddings and honeymoons and each island offers something unique.
Sensational Santorini
A great way to ‘island hop’ from Mykonos to Santorini is to catch the hydrofoil and sit back in air-conditioned comfort while you are transported from one island paradise to the next. When you arrive at the port on Santorini, there will be buses, taxis and chauffeurs holding signs up everywhere. We chose to stay at OIA which is known as the best place on Santorini to see the sun setting over the Mediterranean. Caldera Villas offer traditional cliff house accommodation and are centrally located below the main street which runs through Oia. They do have a ‘plunge pool’ which is really small but is great if you don’t want to do laps, especially as many of the cliffside villas don’t have pools... and it is a long way down the steep hill to the sea.
There are so many restaurants dotted around the town of Oia and many have spectacular views over the volcano and the ocean. The sunsets are truly spectacular and people flock from everywhere on the island to experience at least one ‘Oia sunset’ during their stay. If you are lucky enough to stay at Oia, you will be spoilt with a sunset every day and you can walk to see it. While on Santorini, you have to experience a donkey ride. The donkeys are quite large (more like horses) and very well looked after. A highlight of staying at Caldera Villas is the donkeys walk right past the pool on their way down to the port to collect tourists. They can also take you to the restaurants along the water’s edge where you can eat delicious local seafood with the Mediterranean virtually lapping at your feet. If you don’t want to take a donkey ride back up the steep hill, there are taxis available, but it is definitely an experience you won’t forget... hold on tight and enjoy the ride!
A definite must-do is a sunset sailing trip out to the volcano on a catamaran. The boat stops for everyone to swim to a couple of beaches along the majestic cliffs of Santorini and then enjoy a BBQ cooked on the boat by the staff (and washed down with Ouzo) before setting sail towards the volcano for an amazing sunset.
ONLINE
Caldera Villas will give you an authentic Santorini experience... this is the view from these quaint cliff house dwellings, a few steps down the cliff from the restaurants and busy shopping streets of Oia.

Weddings Greek Style YIANNIS TEPETSIKLIS is a fine art photographer in Greece who also works as a destination wedding photographer. In his wedding photography, he is in search of the realistic point of view... “the spontaneous moment” but in an artistic way. The final result of each wedding project depends on the people, the place, the light... he doesn’t follow the same form or rules of photographing and editing his work. Here are three weddings to inspire anyone planning their own “Big Fat Greek Wedding”. www.weddingphotographer.gr www.facebook.com/yiannis.tepetsiklis
Vaida & Kostas “Kostas is from Greece and had been living on Mykonos for the past 15 years. Vaida came to the island for a holiday with some friends who had chosen Mykonos as the place to visit. On the day before she was due to leave, she met Kostas and fell in love.” Yiannis
Sandra & Mansru
“Sandra & Mansru chose Santorini for their destination wedding. They both come from Lebanon and always wanted to travel to Santorini, so they decided to take their family and close friends and have their wedding there. At the end of the ceremony, everyone stayed to silently watch the amazing sunset of Santorini. Yiannis
Laura & Zein “Laura is from Ireland and Zein is from South Africa. They were working on the same cruise ship around the Aegean and one of the stops was Mykonos. That’s when their love affair began... so they decided to come back with close family and friends to have their beautiful wedding ceremony on the island.” Yiannis
GREEK WEDDINGS by Sia Sia Aristidou writes a blog about Greek Weddings and Traditions and she sells beautiful wedding products at the GREEK WEDDING SHOP. Smashing plates and ‘big fat Greek weddings’ have always been a part of Sia’s life. She has been a bridesmaid more than a dozen times, a koumbara twice... and now she helps couples to plan their own ‘big fat Greek weddings’. Contact Sia if you are thinking about a destination wedding in Greece or if you would like more information about wedding crowns (stefana), candles (lambathas) or sugared almonds (koufeta). www.GreekWeddingTraditions.com www.GreekWeddingShop.com
Tying the knot... Crete Style story Sia Aristidou photos HannaMonika Wedding Photography (Crete) s1.hannamonika.com
Raquel and Evan had their destination wedding on the island of Crete. Evan's family are from Sisani and Omalo (both in the northern part of Greece). The couple chose Crete because none of their guests had been there and they felt there would be more things to see and do compared to the popular choices like Santorini or Mykonos.
Raquel & Evan “Wedding Crowns (Stefana) have been purchased by the best man (the koumbaros) to crown the bride and groom. These crowns have been hand made by Maria Trovas from Story of Stefania (also available on the Greek Wedding Shop) and they are personalised with the bride and groom's names and wedding date.”
Raquel & Evan
Raquel: “These two super cool Greek manges (swag guys) were a last minute addition (surprise gift) from Audrey and Christos from Luxury Weddings on Crete. They were amazing, I was so lucky to be accompanied up the hill by them and their magical tunes! The Church (on the hill at Milatos) is surrounded by olive groves and overlooks the ocean.”
The view from the back of the church.
The church where Evan and Raquel were married... Aghios Nektarios. It's an unmanned Church, the Priest was from the closest operational Ekklesia.
Sia: “The wedding ceremony is taking place at the back of the Church. In Australia, we are not allowed to have Greek weddings outside. They must always be inside the Church. However in Greece, weddings (and christenings) are often performed outside of the Church because they are built too small to fit all of the people. However, the wedding cannot be performed in a garden or on the beach. It must be directly next to the Church. The guests stand up for most of the ceremony. They sit when they are told to sit by the Priest. The koumbaros (best man) is standing next to the groom behind the priest.”
Raquel and Evan had just been crowned with the stefana. It is at this moment that they are connected to each other through Christ and officially man and wife. The guests throw rice to celebrate this special moment just before they begin the walk around the table - their first steps as a married couple - the beginning of their journey together.
There is always Greek Dancing at a Greek Wedding... and after a couple of bottles of scotch, the guests will get up on the tables to dance. Usually the men will dance around in a circle with a bottle of scotch and a shot glass. One by one the men will drink shots without using their hands. Sometimes, they balance the glass on their heads and sometimes they will just drink from the bottle. This is “Kefi - the spirit of joy, enthusiasm, high spirits and frenzy, in which good times, and passion for life are expressed with an abundance of excitement, happiness and fun. Smashing plates (representing all that is material)... nothing else matters when you are in love!
