CLIMATE SENSITIVE DESIGN Climate sensitive design approach intends to address opportunities and constrains of climate so that the comfort conditions of urban living can be improved and more livable cities can be achieved. Climate sensitive design provides fundamental principles specific to different climates, since the requirements of each climate differ with respect to their particular thermal needs.

SITE DESIGN 1:500
GUIDELINES Maximizing the site’s natural potential through a precise selection of location, orientation, H/W ratio and density Obtaining maximum efficiency from the sun as reducing the reliance on artificial lighting and active heating/cooling systems, and from the wind as providing natural ventilation Reducing the amount of unpleasant wind flow and solar radiation, Advancing water efficiency; re-using all rainwater and wastewater Utilizing a various plantings throughout the physical properties; vegetated roof, green walls, vertical gardens and vegetation-covered surfaces, sky courts Enabling recyclable and renewable building materials, and advancing thermal insulation

Remind. & React. Post-it’s are most common and well known reminders. In years they have almost become a icon for this purpose. The biggest fragment to remind is our Home, The Earth. To strengthen this idea and share it through the world Post-it places reminder boards across the world in 20 different airports. Those reminder boards will be completely public to give the ability to send and recieve messages around the world through continents.

GRADUATE DESIGN STDUIO BRIEF: DESIGNING FOR NARRATIVES, 2017 credits. G. Mura & O. Demirbas
Design enables us to tell stories. Outcomes of various design disciplines equip people to narrate stories through places, objects and services. Urban place provides us visual and sensual vocabulary with which we live our daily practices and we create stories.
In such designed environment, we explore, recognize and communicate values through appropriating the existing or creating a new one.

GRADUATE DESIGN STDUIO BRIEF: DESIGNING FOR SMART IZMIR , 2018 credits. G. Mura
Be Smart. / Be Connected. / Be Sustainable.
Explore potentials/gaps/problems to design smart industries and connect them for Izmir, to research and discuss how people/city/industries might be integrated through IOT and narrate new stories through design. You may look at how and where industries might communicate, behave, interact, locate so forth through design. Based on design research methodology, explore “Smart Izmir concept design opportunities in the city. Develop design concept that enables industries/services, place/mobility and people/narratives to get connected/networked.

Along with the ongoing global inter-urban competition, the city of Izmir planning on rebranding itself in the Mediterranean culture and geography, has recently taken attempts to be a “Design City. To this end, the presence of design and creativity as well as their production, distribution and consumption carries considerable significance.
72
These exhibition series intend to map the creative assets and construct awareness in terms of its design potentials, merging and integrating different components of Izmir that indicate design and creativity through photography.

New Spaces for Spectacle
Universities Design & Art (üTAS) as the major component of the Good Design İzmir event is a spectacle platform for the newly graduated designers and artists of İzmir. üTAS Graduation Projects Catalog, conceived as part of this spectacle, was designed in order to demonstrate, encourage and maintain İzmir’s design potential. Fourteen chapters contained in it compiled through an interdisciplinary approach, work together in harmony. The manifests that can be found under the chapters give food for thought, by pointing out at how various designs of different themes and scales are perceived in a holistic approach, and how design is structured in the triangle consisting of the society, individual and science angles.
I hope that this catalogue, which I believe will evolve as a design reserve in the long run, will offer the most important proof on the progress the city of İzmir has made with respect to design.
