Jojo’s Bangkra ‘Sow your Passion’

At Jojo’s Bangkra we create the most stylish fabric tote bags and accessories for all life’s adventures … so you can ‘Sow your Passion’. The idea for Jojo’s Bangkra was born out of a desire to see more handcrafted fabric bags in the leisure market that incorporated some of the traditional craft methods used in the past. We are passionate about our craft and lovers of ‘fabric bags’. We love weaving and mixing different fabric colours, textures, sewing methods, painting techniques and fashioning them into wearable works of art. Our designs are influenced by the beauty and complexity of the islands as we explore picturesque countryside and comb craggy shorelines cataloging their unique elements to then represent them in our products. We believe in sustainable practices and support the preservation of traditional craft methods handed down through the ages. We are happy to be able to offer such a product to you our fellow ‘fabric bag’ lovers to express your passion. Life offers endless possibilities, ‘Sow your Passion’ whatever it may be and soar!

his is a moment for us to pause and reflect. We have had so many comments, words of encouragement, constructive criticism but the most common word we have heard is WOW. We are delighted because that is exactly what we aim for in every issue. Our biggest WOW is that we are already in over 40 countries. Many readers have commented that we are not like the usual magazine in format and content. We know. We intend to think out of the box. The words this has never been done before inspires us to do it. We have no financial backers, we put our money where our mouths are, and stepped out in faith. Our business model is simple, effective, inexpensive, and targeted. Our most important objective is to support and showcase Black television and film globally. To increase knowledge of Africa, the Caribbean and the Black Diaspora, and to provide a platform which encourages hope, drives innovation, and creates opportunity. Our contributors are not seasoned writers but they all have a desire to write. We believe

that everyone deserves a hand up, in particular, we want to highlight Sports Arrow’s writer, Josh Grant. Josh is 15, doing his exams, with a passion to be a sports journalist and analyst. We offered him a section and he took up the challenge. Continue to support, share and enjoy the magazine, learn as much as you can through Onyx TV Online and our website. y priorities at this stage of my life? To keep learning, to remain ‘teachable’ (personal development), and to remain healthy. To keep my family united and to positively impact my inner circle with the right values and behaviours. To empower my own community over here and to be a game-changer in Africa, especially in DRC, my country of origin.. To “run well” the race of life, to leave a legacy, to leave assets on which others will continue to build and to grow. Rather than a strategy, my chosen vehicle to bring change, growth, and development is business. Some people are called to preach, some are called to be soldiers, others are called to be writers, some are called to be philosophers. My calling is to be an entrepreneur. That is my route!

BM. What would you define as an ntrepreneur? An entrepreneur is a builder, a farmer (he/she grows, waters, nurtures, harvests!). I call him/her a ‘practical dreamer’. Someone who turns ideas (his/her or others) into actions and is willing to pay the price for it. Someone who understands that money is a just a tool, but a powerful one if you have plenty of it, to bring change. Someone who understands the need to acquire knowledge, because knowledge is not just power, knowledge can also be profit. 8

BM. You are a French citizen, but your roots are in DRC. Could you tell us about this country, which is seen as one of the richest countries on earth based on the minerals in its soil? DRC stands for the Democratic Republic of Congo, independent since June 1960! In land mass, DRC is nearly ten times bigger than the UK but with an estimated population of nearly 90 million inhabitants in 2019 compared with nearly 67 millions in the UK. So the place is big but ‘empty’, with a very young and vibrant population. DRC has everything the world needs and this is why this extremely rich (potentially) country has been at war for nearly two decades. Too rich for its own good! Some examples. The only landscape you don’t find over there is the desert (but you can ski in DRC!). There is a rain forest (the second largest in the world after the Amazon); fresh water (the third largest fresh water river after the Amazon and the Nile) and the Congo river could power in electricity all the Sub-saharan Africa; an enormous surface for agriculture and farming; an incredible potential for tourism with lakes, savannah, mountains, volcanoes, wild life, the Equator crossing the country…; great market for property developers, house builders,… .

Entrepreneurship must provide you with freedom (freedom of your time, freedom to implement your ideas), ownership, a sense of fulfilment, the vision to generate wealth. The quality of your partners will determine the level/success of your venture(s). So chose very carefully who you decide to be yoked with. And be ready to persevere because the journey is not for the weak.

Minerals. You find Cobalt, which is the strategic mineral for everything which is ‘electric’ (i.e electric planes or car) and green energy. So quite a few folks would love to access DRC’s Cobalt (for free if possible) to boost their own industry at a lower cost so their products are more competitive. You find Coltan: the mineral which boost telecommunication, AI, 5G. This is another of the strategic minerals found in DRC. How could we live without telecommunication, mobile phones, computers,…? You cannot be a modern superpower without controlling your communication. Hence, for example, the big battles around 5G, the telecommunication satellites. And this is where Coltan is fabulous. It helps miniaturisation but still delivers the power: smaller devices but more powerful devices. Therefore, if things can be made smaller but more powerful, this becomes interesting to everyone. Coltan does not just make electronics more powerful, it also makes things faster. When satellites and probes are sent all over space, information exchange needs to be quick. Therefore, there will be an interest in a mineral that can boost all this. Also to run computers, allowing it to process much more data much quicker especially in the future of AI, this can only be done using Coltan.

“If it were a European country which had discovered this remedy, would there be so many doubts?’’ Andry Rajoelina Madagascar produces COVID-ORGANICS a herbal cure for coronavirus. Congratulations go to Andry Rajoelina, President of Madagascar for the production of the herbal drink Covid-Organics. He withstood probing questions by FRANCE 24’s Marc Perelman and RFI’s Christophe Boisbouvier. His response was “What if this remedy had been discovered by an European country, instead of Madagascar, a poor African country? Would people doubt it so much? I don’t think so”. He also refused to tell them what ingredients make up the drink. He went on to say, “What is the problem with Covid-Organics, really? Could it be that this product comes from Africa? Could it be that it’s not OK for a country

like Madagascar, which is the 63rd poorest country in the world... to have come up with (this formula) that can help save the world?” asked Rajoelina. He said the infusion cures patients within ten days. Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Niger and Tanzania have already taken delivery of consignments of Covid-Organics, which was launched last month. Madagascar has reported 171 coronavirus infections and 105 recoveries to date, with no deaths. Rajoelina said the patients that have been healed took the herbal drink and nothing else.

Cover story

The Sexiest Thing A Black Man Can Do Today Is Lead And Understand Algebra A conversation with Dr George C Fraser, CEO of FraserNation is best described as a Maths lesson, an historical experience, a philosophical encounter, a parental counsel in sexual behaviour, and jolly good fun. By Beverley Cooper-Chambers, Editor of Butterfly Magazine (BM). BM: You started your speech at the Courageous Conversations on Race in Denver, Colorado with ‘The Sexiest Thing a Black Man can do Today is Lead’. Could you expand on that? GCF: Of course, it is dependant on that thing that resonates with those who prescribe by my formula of what leadership is. I think that leadership is sexy in a man or a woman, that’s me. I am secure enough in me not to be intimidated by someone who is smarter than me or leading. I find that sexy. As I said, in men or women, as I have said to many groups, sex alone cannot sustain a relationship. At some point in time, you must invest your energy, your vibrations, and your assets into the whole of a person. So to me, attractiveness and sexiness are holistic. It is one of the leading elements is leadership. Let me just define what I believe to be the sequence of leadership: A. A leader is one who demonstrates that they can lead themselves. If you cannot lead you, you sure can’t lead me. So it begins with taking the proper steps to lead you and to develop you. That’s step A. B. To demonstrate the ability to lead your family. If you have a family, but however you define family, are you leading them? Let’s say, for example, you have a wife and three children. 24

Transform your viewing...

Two of the children are criminals doing crack spending time in jail, out of their minds for one reason or another. Right, that is not proper leadership as a man or a woman of the things that are closest to you, your family. So leadership is demonstrated leadership of your family. C. The third is leadership within the community. Are you part of an organization or a church? You are not just sitting in the pews but you are ministering, evangelizing, leading your deeply held beliefs; leadership in the community. D. The final, the ultimate stage is the leadership of our people. Only few rise to that to that occasion Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King, Jnr., W.E.B. Du Bois. This has been demonstrated through the ancient and the modern history of African people of our race, not their race, our race. I am a race man. Those elements, those levels if you will, of leadership demonstrated with humility, the lack of narcissism and ego, those things to a woman is the sexiest thing on earth. Women and men gravitate towards men that lead and demonstrate the character and the integrity contained within leadership. I think that is far more that is far sexier and sustaining than how good you look. That does not mean that

looks don’t mean something because they do but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is defined differently in the consciousness of our own individual minds. There will be other brothers that say she does not have an hourglass figure. That’s not beautiful to me I think that’s shallow. BM: I understand you have a mathematical formula for good relationships of all kinds, marriage, or business? Could you share that with our readers? GCF: Yes it’s called, ‘The Click’ it is in a book I wrote, Click: Ten Truths for Building Extraordinary Relationships. This is my theory that I have tested and proven out in my 75 years of living I have developed one of the biggest and most powerful networks of top Black professional, business owners and community leaders in the world. Having done major research, commissioned studies to prove my theory. Here it is in a nutshell You do not click with everyone that you network with You have people you meet, you enjoy, you bond at some level, you have fun with, do certain things with, and you develop a relationship. And that’s a beautiful thing.

Then you have certain people, selected people that you meet in life with three things are almost immediately in alignment. BM: What are those three things? Chemistry, Fit and Timing We could have a good fit, good chemistry but bad timing we won’t click. We could have good timing, good fit, bad chemistry we won’t click. If you take any one of those three things out of the equation, out of the alignment, out of the algorithms and you won’t reach the level of clicking. I reduced that to an algebraic formula to simplify it as best as I could with symbols. This is what people are talking about C²xFxT√=W³ C = Chemistry - when you square a factor in an equation you increase the power of it. x =Times not plus or minus because when you use times in an equation it means all factors must be present in the equation to reach the final solution. F = Fit x the square root of T when you square root something it reduces the power of that factor. = W to the third power You Win, I Win, and the people that we both serve also win. Everybody wins. We are all serving someone. What does Chemistry mean? We all vibrate at a certain level. It’s like a radio station unless you are tuned in to the right frequency on the radio dial you will not get your programme. You have to be precisely tuned in to the

GEORGE FRASER RISE or DIE

right frequency. We all vibrate, we all have a frequency, there is energy we are pure energy anyway. There are people that we meet in life where there is something about them. The best way you could explain it is sort of magical, you are attracted to them, and some people call that charisma. There is chemistry about them, it’s an aura about them, it’s the way they deport themselves, it’s the way they conduct themselves, it’s the syntax of their language, it’s the nod of their head, it’s both tangible and yet intangible, things that oftentimes are inexplicable to the average mind…There is something there that you can’t put your finger.

country in which you are living in. You can’t blame white people because you are living in their country and Europe is predominantly Caucasoid white they are going to teach you about their history, their culture, not your history. They are not interested in teaching your history in your way, that’s up to you.

BM: Somebody mentioned something called the Butterfly Effect. GCF: Yes I have heard of that I would frame it something different and the word I would use comes from the great Carl Jung called it synchronicity. He defined it as the seemingly accidental; intermeshing of meaningless circumstances it is what he discovered in his life’s work that there are meaningless circumstances that you are always where you are supposed to be. When you least expect it something magical happens. BM: Another thing I noticed in your presentations is that you stress I am Black? In these days more and more of us are connecting with our African heritage. I know you were born in Brooklyn but where is your family originally from? GCF: Guyana, in the Caribbean and my grandparents were raised in London. They got there as slaves from Africa. They are originally from Cameroon and the Tikar tribe. I have done two DNA searches. We know that dark people or people of African descent at the end of the day they come from one place. We know how we got to Jamaica, We know how we got to the Caribbean, We know how we got to Europe - no one should be mystified by that – that is not the question - the question is where do to really come from and what do you know about where you really come from or do you only know about the history of the

BM: The fact that you were fostered, at a young age, resonated with me for the same reason except I was 10 weeks old. At what point, during the 14 toxic years you spent in the orphanage and foster homes, did you decide I am not going to let my situation define me? GCF: There is a wonderful place in our brain that processes our situation at the moment especially if it is negative. It is a unique quality that only human beings have in the frontal lobe, we take in whatever the negative is, we process that, and we produce synthetic happiness. People call me all the time and ask, “Dr Fraser how are you doing with the pandemic?” “Oh, I am doing great, this is the best thing that could have happened to me, and here is why. So, I have taken a very toxic situation, I’ve processed it through this unusual portion of the brain, and I have done all this a look at the Dan Gilbert, Ted Talks and I have converted it into what is it that I can extract out this calamity and pandemic that I can stay at home; that will advance my life; make me happy; allow me to do things that I would never have had time to do, think, be innovative, be creative and those are the things that make me happy - it’s a mindset.

BM: Was there a defining moment? GCF: As my sister tells me I was a very unusual young child. That I never complained. I just made the best, although the situation, I recognized toxicity, I recognized that things were bad but I never focused on that. I did things that made me productive and happy. She said I was doing that at 6/7 years old. She was freaking out needing therapy and all kind of things and I was not. There must be something inexplicable in my mind, in my brain the vibration of it, because the average brain vibrates at about 100 vibrations per minute…if you are in the 80 vibrations per minute range that is a sign of genius. Don’t ask me to explain the science. So, obviously, I am constructed in such a way that this part of the brain that evaluates the circumstances in your life and converts them to a synthetic form of happiness is pretty active in my life and has been all of my life.

Like Dr. Fraser, Blair Underwood discovers his roots within the Tikar people of the Cameroon.

Akhenaten had a child, Tutankhamen. Akhenaten said there is only one God. BM: Unfortunately, we are not taught this unless we engage in Black History Studies. GCF: John Henrik Clarke, the great Africancentric scholar from Harlem, New York, said it best when he said a tree without roots will not grow, it will die.

It is partially, and I say this with all humility, why I have achieved so much. I am not going to let the situation control me I am going to control it.

BM: In the UK, unlike America, Black people do not feel an affinity to this country. Racism is rife, although subtle. More and more young adults want to invest and/or relocate to an African country, even more than to the Caribbean but there is a lack of cohesion and a level of distrust, based on how the media perceives Africa. In a practical way, how can the Black Diaspora coordinate such economic, political, financial, and social development?

GCF: Well, I grew up in Black orphanages and foster care and fundamentally Black people in America are Christians so you grow up in the Black church its belief system and culture. So I was acculturated at a very young age as a Christian, hell what the hell did I know? Right. So this was my belief system. I have since gone on to do a tremendous amount of comparative religious studies. I am very interested in comparative religion. The doctrine is in the theology of five or six major religions and just looking for the common threads. I’ve landed at 75 where the Dali Lama has landed where he simple says when you compare religion it is, all the same, the stories are different but the points are the same. Most of the stories emanated Kemet, now known as Egypt. The first of the stories started there. Most other stories are variations on those themes. What most people don’t know is the first concept of there is only one God came from Egypt by a king called, Akhenaten. Akhenaten was married to Nefertiti and

GCF: FraserNation – No Barriers No Boundaries, No Borders. Citizenship, you join a nation not as a member but as a citizen. Every nation that you apply to as citizen has its requirements. You have to apply and you have to meet certain standards. We are no different. We have standards and it is in how we brand ourselves. FraserNation citizens of generational wealth where we are committed as citizens to demonstrated excellence, equity and investment, and entrepreneurial thinking. I did not say entrepreneurship, thinking, taking risks, taking responsibility, and taking ownership of our own lives. When you can demonstrate those three things you will be authorized to become a citizen. So remember I said demonstrate excellence, I did not say excellence, if in fact, you are excellent in whatever it is you choose to do in life as a person of African descent, you must demonstrate that to us. Help us understand how you have modelled and acted in an excellent way. So that is the criteria. So,

No, FraserNation is not for everyone. Let me say it this way. Not everything is for everybody; But, there is something for everybody; But if you are building something for everybody you are building something for nobody. GCF: Does it echo back to the click formula? BM: Ah, we apply the formula. GCF: We make it very clear when one applies for citizenship. What are the three basic requirements? BM: We have a wide variety of readers. GCF: The only people I want are people who want details - people, who read, people who are intellectually curious, who are capable of critical thinking. BM What is the essence of FraserNation? It is to aggregate a database of Global Black excellence and to make excellence in every category known to man available to each other in one click. Just like when you go on Amazon you can buy anything you want in the world with one click. As we continue to build on our nation with one click you can find what you are looking for. Example: I am looking for an intellectual property attorney in Chicago. And then all the Black intellectual property attorneys in Chicago will pop up. Whoever has access to coltan, you can see the consequences of mixing with all these industries and DRC has the largest amount of Coltan in the world. I believe that just with cobalt, it will be enough for DRC to sit on the table as a power player. But when you have cobalt and coltan it becomes something else. And if it was not enough, in DRC we also have Gold in big quantities, Diamonds in big quantities, Mercury in big quantities, oil and high-quality Uranium. Many people are unaware, that the first atomic bomb was made from Congolese Uranium. The reason for this was, at the time The Congo was still the colony of Belgium and America, needed to finish the war. They understood that if they wanted to finish Japan and to minimise their casualties, they needed to do something radical. At the time they had the knowledge but not the technology to develop and to purify Uranium to the stage of making an Atomic Bomb. However, the Congolese Uranium had a certain purity level to it, meaning it was good enough to be used in an atomic bomb. Meaning, the Congolese Uranium of today based on its quality is of particular interest to those countries who are involved in terrorism because if they can get their hands on Congolese Uranium,

it will save them all the different steps of purification. As one imagines, certain people or countries shouldn’t get access to Congolese Uranium. Therefore strategically a lot of countries are interested in controlling DRC just because of the Uranium to ensure it is not easily accessible. Let us not forget the challenge of food across the world including the West. Due to economic growth, a lot of the space which was used for farming are now being used for housing. In years to come, many industrial countries will not have the landmass to feed their own population, DRC alone has an enormous space it can use to feed European countries. Who wants a country like this (and with people like this?) to have control of all their own resources? Few of these assets, and we don’t have the space for all of them, if they are well managed by a wise ruler could transform DRC into a superpower in one generation. But is there the will for that? Interview with Jeremie Alamazani continued from page 28

Children at school in Jeremie's hometown, Kisangani. He is one of the patrons who support the school. They contract a tailor to provide school uniforms, providing him with a business. Other craftsmen make the desks and chairs, so everybody feels a great sense of pride and community.

DRC is the most incredible place. People from The Congo tend to say, on the seventh day, God took a rest in The Congo to meditate on His creation and when He stood up, everything He had in His pocket, the Cobalt, the gold, the diamond, the coltan etc, felt to the ground. BM. Do you think we would be able to transform Africa in our generation?

RT Documentary

Yes! Because it is our responsibility to bring change to things that we have been empowered to do rather than placing the burden on our children and grandchildren, that type of thinking is a completely different mindset and epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit. In my opinion, that mindset has plagued Africans for years. There are many people with the ability and all the qualities to bring change but they are scared and not bold, a vast majority of them have the mindset of employees. Nothing

Kisangani Jeremie’s hometown. can be achieved without discipline. One of the most important things in life is consistency, the ability to work hard every day towards your goal. If you put aside ability if you are determined to work hard daily in whatever you do, you are more likely to be successful. We must not let other people define us with their fears and limitations. Therefore, we start to entertain the idea that change cannot happen in Africa in this generation due to corruption. Let us not be put into a narrative of denigrating ourselves but rather focus on what would make it possible to start the process of transforming Africa for the better. Today makes tomorrow. BM

The Inspirational Legend

Paul Canoville By Josh Grant

E

arlier this week, I hooked up with first Black and former Chelsea player Paul Canoville for a heartfelt interview. Paul has a great story about how he turned his negative experiences into positive achievements after starting a charity. He strongly emphasised how important it is to talk to people during this current pandemic and about this great service Talk2us, which is completely free. The man who bagged 15 goals for Chelsea described his favourite and first goal, a sweet leftfooted volley against Fulham at Craven Cottage. It was an important goal for the season, as they needed to win every game to stay in division 2. We quickly moved on to how racial abuse was a big part of his football career. He spoke about how his own fans shockingly abused him on his debut. This forced him to concentrate on his game and to practice blocking out the noise throughout his career. In contrast, he expressed how the premier league has now helped to cut down the amount of abuse in game. Unfortunately, in his prime years, Paul Canoville picked up a serious knee injury, which threatened his career. This caused depression, the use of drugs, which was exacerbated by a diagnosis of cancer. This event really messed with his mental health and triggered some forgotten emotions. Who knows where he could have reached? After that, I asked about his charity with the Chelsea Academy and how that started. He explained how he become a teacher after his football career but left the profession for medical reasons caused by a bad immune system made worse by the cancer.

Later, he returned to Chelsea, by invitation, to share his story with current players. He has given numerous speeches in schools and colleges. He released his memoirs, called ’Black and Blue’, and won the Best Sports Book of the Year in 2008, which is available on Amazon. He talks about his journey in more detail. Later he released a documentary on Sky Sports entitled Black & Blue: The Paul Canoville Story. Finally, he stresses that parents should always give their children encouragement and mentoring in order to keep them on the right path, as he didn’t really have that when he was young. It was great getting an inspiring and motivational interview from Paul Canoville. Make sure to support the Paul Canoville Foundation and don’t forget to call Talk2Us. Call 0-800-059-0123 if you’re ever feeling like you need someone to talk to. Until next week, watch this space. Transform your viewing...
