Travelers Health Insurance: What Does Travel Health Insurance Cover?
When we are looking at this subject, our starting place must be to ensure that everyone understands the Canadian Healthcare system. Whilst it is under constant reforms, which generally seems to have more to do with politics than the welfare of its citizens, Canadians are very proud of their healthcare system. All Canadian citizens are issued with a health card.

Although paid through taxes and in some provinces an extra levy, on production of their health cards, the residents of each province have full entitlement to emergency care and medical treatment without ever being presented with a bill. The healthcare providers do all the necessary paperwork and billing between each other. Each province has its own rules when it comes to healthcare but again, on production of their health card, emergency treatment and medical care is provided and the necessary paperwork is taken care of between provincial HMO’s. Some costs are incurred, such as prescriptions or crutches but nothing that would break the bank.
Is Travelers Health Insurance Necessary if Traveling Within Canada
After having explained a little about the healthcare system in Canada, you may instantly think there is no need for any form of Travelers Health Insurance. This may not strictly be the case.

Canada is an enormous country. It has all climates, a lot of beautiful scenery, and the opportunity to take advantage of many sports. There is also the chance to visit the cities which are modern and very cosmopolitan. Beaches offer surfing opportunities and of course there is the chance to ski, walk, cycle and lots of other sports.
This now shows you why you should consider a travelers health insurance policy. On a planned holiday within Canada, with all the opportunities there are, it would be terrible to need evacuation back home and
not be covered for it. Ambulances are one of the things that you cannot be sure is covered. The same goes for air evacuation. If you had to pay for that, you would find yourself considerably out of pocket if you could afford it at all.
There is also the activity factor, in many cases there is general insurance by the company organizing an event you may want to try. The trouble with this is limits will be set as low as possible in order to make as much profit as possible. Whilst this is perfectly understandable in the business sense, that is not much comfort to you if you end up stuck for months in an area you don’t know, and you may be hundreds or even thousands of miles away from your family and friends.
The other thing to note is that General Travelers Insurance will rarely cover people for sporting activities. You need to take out a policy that covers your particular trip and the activity or sport you intend to take part in. Do not forget to include things like the hiring of equipment or the use of your own. Also, you should check if there is any personal liability with the policy. Just remember if you have been deemed to have caused the accident and subsequent injury of another person, you want to be covered for their expenses or else you had better talk to the real estate agents about selling your house.
