Japan has had no lockdowns for the entire Covid period. Since the Second World War, laws have been enacted to protect people's privacy about their whereabouts. Checking where people are or where they are going is a rather sensitive matter and so the Japanese government had to think of something else. It became the 3C measure: Avoid Closed areas, Crowded places, Close contact. Bars closed, restaurants closed, underground stations places to avoid, don't stand or sit too close to each other... All of Japan outside, the only thing that was still possible. Outside is the only and very welcome change from inside, inside, inside.
Because traveling does not fit well within the 3C rules either, I limited my photography projects as well. For almost a year, I focused my camera on Sarushima Island in Tokyo Bay.
