Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has traveled the world advancing rapidly and has already settled in the Dominican Republic. The issue of the health crisis is a concern for governments, given the future prospects that are looming in the socio-economic landscape. In this context is the Dominican Republic with a great impact on the health system. Impact that affects other sectors of the country. In this sense, the study deals with the psychosocial effects of the coronavirus in the country on the population. The measures adopted by the authorities and their importance regarding confinement are discussed. Expert opinions are presented to observe the effects studied. The collective actions carried out because of the coronavirus that reflect the communities’ fear of contagion are relevant.

Communities that also expressed their opposition to the installation of isolation areas, and in which labor conflicts arose due to the suspension and cancellation of workers and the payment of wages and bonuses. As for the sectors that requested psychological attention, they basically correspond to the middle and upper middle classes with a predominance of women. It was observed that the economic paralysis has been devastating for the most vulnerable sectors of the population. The sanitary and economic conditions have influenced the psychological effects, generating anxiety, anguish, depression, and stress. The conditions of the informal sector with people who live day to day become more difficult, being one of the most affected.
