Listing During The Holidays

Afraid to list your home during the holiday season because you are afraid you won’t be able to decorate? Never fear, you can enjoy the holiday cheer in your home and sell it at the same time!

If done correctly holiday decorations can make a home feel comfortable and welcoming to prospective buyers. As realtors, we often hear our buyers wonder out loud, “where will the Christmas Tree go in this house?”. You can show them!

The key is to show the holiday spirit without taking away from the features and size of your home. This means keeping it somewhat minimal. Remember, when your home is showing the goal is to let your home shine, not your belongings.

1) When you get out those boxes of decorations go ahead and use them to pack away some personal décor. Family photos and nicknacks being stored away means you have room for some holiday touches.

2)

This may not be the year to display your collections. Nutcrackers, candles, villages…. the list of holiday collections goes on and on. They are lovely, but will overwhelm your space and will become a focal point instead of the bones of your home.

3) Put up that tree, but just one please. Also, make sure the tree is correctly sized for your room. There should be easy walkways around it and some space between the tree and the ceiling.

4) Skip the heavily scented holiday candles. Want to make your home smell festive but not overwhelming? Try simmering lemon and rosemary on the stove a couple hours before a showing. Your home will smell clean and welcoming but wont be offensive to sensitive noses.
