A Note from the Director
O
ur season continues with GRAMMY® award-winning trumpeter Chris Botti. This performance is one of the handful that was rescheduled from our 2019-20 Season. Thank you to Peter Boulware Toyota for their sponsorship of this evening’s performance. Botti is a familiar face to Opening Nights, performing with us last in 2017. In his dazzling performance, Botti will play alongside a full band and accompanying singers including jazz vocalist Veronica Swift, who just performed with Opening Nights at The Moon in June. Botti is an impressive instrumentalist who lets his bandmates shine, making for an incredible evening of music ranging from jazz to pop to rock. Diversity in genres being extended by Opening Nights is a benchmark of our history at Florida State University and in Tallahassee. Examples of that range of artistry in upcoming events are represented by the multi-platinum album group, Little River Band to the internationally acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem. The range is extended by local partnerships including that with the Chain of Parks Art Festival with their Keynote Artist, Lana Shuttleworth, as that with the FSU College of Music and their annual spectacular blend of music with PRISM. Our next performance is Roger McGuinn, frontman of The Byrds, with his trademark 12-string Rickenbacker guitar. McGuinn pioneered folk-rock and, by extension, country-rock, influencing everyone from contemporaries like The Beatles to acolytes like Tom Petty and R.E.M. in the process, becoming the very definition of the burgeoning musical form. I hope you’ll join us.
