OPERA ON TOUR
Opera Colorado’s Young Artists hit the road with abridged performances of two exciting operas sung in English – the classic fairytale Hansel and Gretel and the blockbuster Carmen. OFFERED: Hansel and Gretel – October-May; Carmen – January-May COST: $600 single / $700 two back-to-back performances
HANSEL AND GRETEL
CARMEN
Follow the trail of breadcrumbs to Opera Colorado’s production of the beloved fairytale Hansel and Gretel. When they become stranded in the magic forest, things look “Grimm” indeed for Gretel and her brother Hansel. Their unexpected adventure takes them on an enchanted odyssey where they meet a cunning and zany Witch. This performance offers a unique and creative way to incorporate classical literature and fairytales into your curriculum!
Join us for Bizet’s most famous opera. Carmen, a fiery Spanish rose, loves to live on the edge and uses her feminine wiles to get what she wants – but beware; play with her and you might get burned. This production frames Bizet’s celebrated melodies in a minimalistic setting, allowing for the power of the story and the drama of the characters to take center stage. True to the lure of classic Spain, Carmen will draw you deeply into an unforgettable opera experience.

CHAPERONE RATIO REQUIREMENT
Take advantage of this extremely unique opportunity for your students to experience the World Premiere of a brand new American Opera. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter is America’s first great tragic novel, but the story could easily be played out today: how individuals react to and survive oppression and judgement. The opera looks at individuals who hold fast to their personal beliefs and secrets to protect themselves and others; how their mistaken actions result from fears of being judged and disliked; and how people either make peace with their decisions, or live out lives of tortured conflict because of them.
One supervising teacher per 10 students (admitted free of charge). Homeschool groups must meet the ratio requirement for supervising teachers to be admitted free of charge. Opera Colorado reserves the right to limit the number of additional adults. Performance takes place at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in downtown Denver.
Stay for an interactive talk-back with the cast and crew following the performance. GRADE LEVEL: K-12TH GRADE
