EPIC INFORMATION WELCOME LETTER
Welcome to EPIC 2017 Where big happens
Dear EPIC 2017 attendees, Welcome to EPIC 2017, where BIG happens and welcome to Las Vegas! Thank you for taking the time to join us. We look forward to spending time with you over the next few days. There are so many BIG things going on here at EPIC 2017, let’s take a quick look at just some of the highlights:
EPIC Savings On Tuesday, be sure to visit the more than 140 exhibitor booths to learn about new categories, new services and new products to help drive your business. It just makes sense to take advantage of the tons of valuable Show Specials that are available this year! Last year, dealers wrote a
record $5.5M in show orders, and walked away with EPIC savings! EPIC Get Togethers (EGTs) These one-on-one appointments on the show floor, an EPIC exclusive, debuted last year in Nashville and are back, even better, this year in Vegas. EGTs are a tremendous opportunity for focused and productive discussions with exhibitors to help grow your mutual businesses. While we’re on booth visits, be sure to make them constructive – don’t cheat yourself and simply collect stickers. EPIC Learning Our innovative, forDealers, byDealers Education Forums are exclusive to EPIC and are all about learning from your peers. From panel discussions on best practices, to roundtable discussions and more – the content is all for you, and by you! Learn from YOUR fellow dealers, discover information and ideas

relevant to YOUR business, and walk away with tips and tactics YOU can implement back in your business! And be sure to jot those to-dos and takeways down on the handy “Reminder To Be EPIC” postcard located in this show guide for a visual reinforcement of your ah-ha moments when you’re back in the office. Thanks to our sponsor Bi-Silique/MasterVision for this. EPIC meets ISSA/INTERCLEAN for BIG Results This year EPIC equals two events in one: That’s right… EPIC 2017 is co-located with the industry’s largest Jan/San show, ISSA/ INTERCLEAN. More than half of you are making the wise decision to stay to tap into the power of ISSA at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Wednesday
and Thursday! See the ISSA/ INTERCLEAN Show Guide in the back of this booklet for more. EPIC Giving Again, EPIC is all about making a BIG difference as well. From the 3rd Annual Hike for Hope benefiting City of Hope, to the NEXT Give Back event, called Spreading Cheer benefiting Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas & City of Hope. EPIC is doing its part in the fight against cancer and supporting those battling other life-threating diseases. Visit the City of Hope booth to donate and learn more. And again EPIC 2017 exhibitors are doing their part to help children succeed in school by donating tradeshow product to the Kids In Need Foundation.
An EPIC Thank You Of course we want to recognize the generous support of our exhibitors and sponsors, so a BIG thank you to all of them, with a special mention for our Exclusive Premier Sponsor, Essendant. We’d also like to thank the staff and board members of both groups, our co-location partner ISSA and our business partners for their relentless efforts in making EPIC 2017, co-located with ISSA/ INTERCLEAN a big success! Finally, we wish you an enjoyable and productive time here this week. If there is anything we, our staff or board members can do to help you during the event, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Mike Gentile, President & CEO, Independent Stationers
Mike Maggio, President, TriMega
Sincerely
PS: Now’s a great time to save the date for EPIC 2018 taking place October 15 -17, 2018. Don’t miss Tuesday’s General Session and prepare to… Disrupt Ordinary!

The Bellagio is home to some of Vegas’s premier bars and nightlife. The two biggest venues – The Bank and Hyde will play host to the EPIC Club Crawl on Monday night. There are three Michelinstarred restaurants – Le Cirque (modern French), Michael Mina (innovative seafood) and Picasso offers fine European cuisine in the company of some of the painter’s masterpieces and a view of the hotel’s famous fountains. Also offering a fountain view are the Prime Steakhouse (below), Todd English’s Olives (Mediterranean

More casual fare can be enjoyed at Fix (classic American), Lago (Italian), Noodles (new Asian) and acclaimed Chef Roy Ellamar brings his talents to the table at Harvest. For even more relaxed eats, why not try the 24-hour Café Bellagio, The Buffet or the Pool Café.

There are also 56 private massage rooms where you can experience the luxury of a Bellagio Signature Stone Massage or perhaps some world-famous Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio are a mustsee. Open 24 hours a day and free to enter, this stunning attraction offers a spectacular mix of exotic plant life and fine art, arranged in themed areas that change with the seasons. Chocolate heaven The fountains outside the hotel are not the only ones of note at the Bellagio. The Jean Philippe Patisserie (JPP) is home to the world’s largest chocolate fountain (certified by Guinness World Records). What is your best piece of advice to someone who is visiting EPIC for the first time? Talk, talk, talk! Ask as many questions as you can. Attend ALL the events and get to know people. Don’t get stuck in circles of people you already know. These shows are for meeting new people. What do you like best about the EPIC experience? I like hearing about industry happenings and the education forums. What is your favorite memory of an EPIC event? Bowling in Pasadena! It was a casual night and super fun to be on competitive teams. What would be a good theme song for the EPIC show? Justin Timberlake, Can’t Stop the Feeling What special/secret skill do you possess? Total skill … I see solutions for everything. There are no boundaries or limits. Don’t ever tell me I can’t do something. There are always obstacles to overcome, AND there’s always a way to get what you want if you want it bad enough. What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do? Complete five marathons! What do you do in your spare time? I love spending beautiful, simple, quality time with my family. Riding bikes, playing at the park, going to baseball games, cooking, reading books. The simple joys of life. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received? My 20-year employee telling me that I’m the best boss ever.
What word do you use the most? EPIC! What is the best way to spend the weekend in Las Vegas? I’m too old for clubs and was born in Vegas, so I’m way beyond the strip clubs and nightclub scene, been there done that in my 20s and 30s. Here’s a local’s point of view: After doing a bit of shopping at the Fashion Show mall, start Friday afternoon with happy hour on The Strip. There are so many great restaurants, just pick one or two and chill. Then make your way to TopGolf to have fun! Saturday morning, after breakfast downtown at Chef Natalie’s EAT, drive out to Boulder City to zip line Bootleg Canyon or skydive! If you have time, touring Hoover Dam is quite impressive. Kinda touristy, but if you’ve never seen it, it’s awesome. Saturday night west side in Downtown Summerlin for live music in the park, and a great meal at Grape Street café. If you’re into gambling or a movie, Red Rock Casino is just next door. Sunday morning brunch at Giada’s, then drive up to Mt Charleston or Lee Canyon for a cool afternoon hike. Dinner at home with friends. Sounds like this weekend coming up! What is your pet hate? Dogs that lick humans, and humans that talk to their animals like a baby, that’s super annoying!

Scott Moore, V.P. Sales/Owner, AmeriSys Inc
Who is your most EPIC industry figure and why? Bob Nimmo. I miss him dearly. He embraced every minute of EPIC and his enthusiasm was contagious. I spent most of my time with him at these events and his spirit lives on. I am very glad Independent Stationers has chosen to honor him every year. What is your best piece of advice to someone who is visiting EPIC for the first time? “Network, Network, Network”, I met a fellow competitor at one of these shows and we struck a deal to partner on a contract. The relationship increased sales several million dollars over a few years. What is your favorite memory of an EPIC event? There have been several, however it always seems to be the evening theme
parties that stay with you. Nashville coinciding with the Country Music Awards was very special. No expense is spared at these parties. What would be a good theme song for the EPIC show? Any Way You Want It by Journey What are you most proud of? No thinking here, my family. What’s your most prized possession? Our summer lake house – it has been the basis of some of my fondest family memories and it is still producing them. What is the best way to spend the weekend in Las Vegas? I love Vegas; I have been there many times. However I always say “I can’t wait to get here and I can’t wait to leave”. I would tell you what I usually do there, but as “what happens in Vegas”… well, you know the rest.
If you were President, what would be the first law you pass? A simplified tax reform. If you could have the answer to any question, what would you ask? What is the market going to do NEXT week! What’s your worst character trait (to other people)? Sometimes my sarcasm gets me in trouble. What is your pet hate? Negative people, they can suck the energy out of you.

DEALER PROFILE
Dealer’s voice
Scott Johnson, owner, The Office Shop
Who is your most EPIC industry figure and why? Sounds corny but IS has changed our business dramatically. It leveled the playing field (almost) and allows us to compete in the marketplace. Best advice to someone visiting EPIC for the first time. Don’t try to win everything or anything at the tradeshow. Talk to vendors you want to see. When you eat lunch engage with the dealer next to you. What do you like best about the EPIC experience? Networking, by far, is one of the best things about EPIC. Of course, talking with my buddies I see once a year, we have to catch up, lots of late nights solving industry problems. What’s your EPIC theme song? Bad to the Bone
What special skill do you possess? I can talk to anyone about anything. I guess the answer would be I can bullsh!t. Of what are you most proud? This one is easy. Our son Zachary who has Down Syndrome, not only beat cancer at six months old, but has now moved into a house we purchased for him. He shares his home with another young man with Down Syndrome and a Host Mom. He grew up about 20 years in one day! I’m very proud of my daughter winning two Emmys. I guess the answer is… my kids. How did they turn out so good? (Clue: my wife!) Best way to spend the week in Vegas? Hanging with my wife Jodie and our friends people watching! They don’t look that way in Minnesota! (at least
not in downtown Aitkin, population 2,009) Where would you most like to visit/travel and why? My daughter, Kari Jo and myself, have been on a mission to visit all the baseball parks. It has been an awesome father-daughter thing. We have had a lot of fun! Colorado is next. But I have to say my wife Jodie and I, along with our best friends, went for 16 days to Italy. Put this on your bucket list! If you weren’t doing your present job, what would you like to be doing? I would be a stand-up comedian. I guess I shouldn’t quit my day job!

Succession Planning – Be Prepared to Sell Your Business, Inside or Outside of Your Family Tower 3 In this seminar, a panel of your peers will be discussing the succession planning process. We will cover specific details about the possibility of selling your dealership to your children, your employees, or another independent dealer. Each of these three avenues is structured differently and members of the panel will cover many topics. We will also discuss saving income taxes on the sale, valuing your business, and important retirement income options. Who Should Attend: All dealer principals and owners Moderator: Gary Pittsford, President and CEO, Castle Wealth Advisors Selling from a Position of POWER Raphael 2-3 Join sales and marketing author Larry Mersereau, with a blueribbon panel of TriMega & Independent Stationers dealers, for a discussion of sales strategy, technique and training. We all understand the importance of a well-trained and dedicated sales team. But how do you recruit the right people, get them on the same page with the rest of the team, and direct the whole team to make consistent contact and bring home more contracts? You’ll hear specifics these dealers have implemented successfully to identify prospects, make that critical first contact, follow up, nurture leads and close deals. And that’s just an outline! We’ll go where your questions and comments take us, making this a unique, can’t-miss session. Whether you hire and train a sales team or you are your sales team, whether you’re a large dealer or small, you’ll take home real-world ideas and insights you can put to work the minute you get back from Vegas to stand out in your market and grow your sales (and profits). Who Should Attend: Sales managers, sales reps, dealer principals and general managers Moderator: Larry Mersereau, CTC

From Good to Great – Taking Your Jan/San Biz to the Next Level Da Vinci 1-2 Ok, you know about the importance of the Jan/San category, are already selling it and, in fact, doing decent business in it – which is good. But how do you take that Jan/ San business from good to great? What does success look like and how does your dealership get there? Join a panel of your fellow dealers for a discussion moderated by industry expert Bill Balek of ISSA, on how to win in this category, move from the carpet to the concrete and take your business in the cleaning (and related) categories to the next level. Who are the right partners? What are ‘healthy’ margins in the category? What is the value proposition of the OP dealer compared to the incumbents? What are effective strategies for selling to the ‘back of the house’? We’ll cover these topics and more at EPIC 2017. Who Should Attend: Anyone looking to go from good to great in Jan/San Moderator: Bill Balek, ISSA Grow Your Federal Business with EPIC Business Essentials Tower 8 The Federal Government is still the largest purchaser of what we have to sell. Do your homework prior to the meeting to yield the best results. And, if you haven’t done so already – have a talk with these folks in your office to check on the following: • Purchasing manager: service issues, lead times, inventory, fill rates, etc • Operations manager: shipping issues, carton labeling, quality control, call frequency, sales rep accessibility • Sales and/or marketing manager: sales support, manufacturer rep group performance, marketing support required, customer feedback, training programs, etc.
2
Don’t be late! EGTs are scheduled in 15 minute intervals, so every minute counts. Arrive on time to keep yourself on schedule and help the exhibitor keep their meetings flowing smoothly too! Also, please try to wrap up your meetings on time so as to not keep the next dealer waiting. Doing so will help make everyone’s EGTs effective and efficient!
3
Your EGT appointments are only one component of the EPIC 2017 show floor experience. Remember, in addition to your EGT appointments, be sure to take the time to tour the rest of the show floor, discovering new exhibitors, taking advantage of valuable Show Specials and learning about all the opportunities to grow your business in 2018 and beyond!

TUESDAY: CHAT
Dealer’s voice
Demetrius Matthews, CEO, President, United Office Solutions, Inc. What is your best piece of advice to someone who is visiting EPIC for the first time? My advice would be to make sure to stay sober and alert during the day. Create a personal agenda before arriving and meet as many vendors as you can and create new relationships. During the evening party like a rock star. What do you like best about the EPIC experience? I like the information gathering process. You should conduct personal evaluations of yourself and your organization and then benchmark against your peers. Seek other business ventures and learn how to partner with other companies. Be nice and kind to everyone. What is your favorite memory of an EPIC event? My fondest memories of the event come from just spending time talking
to Grady Taylor… chatting with him in passing every single day, but just about nothing in particular. What special/secret skill do you possess? I ride a long board. What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do? Fight when I felt like crying. What do you do in your spare time? Play with my bulldog. What is your favourite gadget? Sony Camera A9 What word do you use the most? Bro What’s your specialist subject? Hobby breeding bulldogs What is the best way to spend the weekend in Las Vegas? Poolside parties If you were President, what would be the first law you pass?
Reforming and rewriting the education statutes. All education should be free to US citizens and paid for out of our military budget. If you could trade places with someone (dead or alive) for a day, who would it be and why? Brad Pitt If you could have the answer to any question, what would you ask? Do UFOs really exist? If you weren’t doing your present job, what would you like to be doing? Writing short stories and films.

WIN BIG
cash me in can you Color up for a chance to win $5000? At the EPIC 2017 Tradeshow, participating suppliers will be assigned one of three booth colors, which will be indicated by a sticker on the floor in front of their booth. You will have received a Color Your World card with your registration materials. On that card will be a list of all the participating suppliers, and what color sticker they hold. Your mission is to fill your card with the proper number of stickers by visiting vendors who correspond to that color.
hooked on fun Join us directly after the tradeshow closes on Tuesday, September 12 at 4:45pm for Prizeapalooza, a great chance to join your colleagues for a bite to eat, a few drinks and a great deal of fun after the hard work you’ve put in at the show. We’ll be handing out thousands of dollars in prizes. There’s onstage, show-related fun such as Minute To Win It and Color Your World (below and right, respectively), as well as other booth-based promotions giving you a chance to win BIG! We look forward to seeing you after the end of the tradeshow at Prizeapalooza for some EPIC fun.
won in 60
seconds It’s back for another year! Time on the tradeshow floor will increase your chance of cash prizes!
A minute isn’t a very long time… but it’s long enough to win cold hard cash! However, first you need to be a Tradeshow Warrior and put in some time on the tradeshow floor. Your hard work could lead to the chance to win BIG with our post-show competition… Minute To Win It. This fun-filled event gives you the chance to compete in a range of 60-second games, using household objects, for a shot at $500 cash. How do you win? From 1:00pm to 4:00pm a mystery individual will be walking the show floor, handing out random Minute To Win It contestant certificates to unsuspecting, hard-working dealer attendees on the tradeshow floor. Just be there, networking with suppliers, and you could be one of the lucky recipients!

You need to be a Tradeshow Warrior To obtain a sticker, you must have meaningful dialogue with the vendor about their products, services and your business experience with them. After your card is filled, you will drop it off at the EPIC Information Booth and that enters you into the drawing for $5,000! The drawing will be held live during the Prizepalooza Reception after the close of the Tradeshow on September 12th. Don’t forget, you must be present at Prizeapalooza to win!

ISSA SHOW GUIDE: KEYNOTES
TAke
NOTE
There will be two keynote addresses at ISSA/ INTERCLEAN 2017, both of which will be presented by household names, who will share personal experiences about what it takes to succeed, both in business and in life, in their own unique ways. You should not miss these dynamic and iconic personalities as they grace the ISSA Keynote Stage. First up, on Wednesday September 13 at 9:00am, Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman will present A Winning Playbook. Aikman has parlayed the skills that fired his Hall of Fame football career with the Dallas Cowboys into numerous successful business ventures since retiring from the game almost 17 years ago. His grit and determination in overcoming debilitating back pain to forge ahead and succeed off the field sets an admirable example. “I need to achieve for myself,” he explains. Let his keen insight, drive and dedication inspire your successes! The following day at 2:30pm you’ll hear from TV personality and talk-show host Howie Mandel. For Mandel, cleaning is more than a passion – it’s an obsession! A self-confessed germaphobe and hypochondriac, he has battled his fears all his life, going so far as to sport a bald head because, in his words, it “feels so streamlined and so clean”. Mandel may fear germs, but he certainly does not fear the spotlight! So why not top off your week with Coming Clean, a Q&A with Mandel and ISSA Executive Director John Barrett, along with a stand-up show? Mandel’s wit and charm are infectious as he takes a humorous look at his obsession with cleaning and shares experiences from his varied and successful career. Not only that, but several lucky winners will go home with a Golden Ticket offering unique Dallas, TX, experiences – which can be used in Dallas, during the ISSA/INTERCLEAN Trade Show and ISSA Convention in 2018! About Troy Aikman Troy Aikman retired from the National Football League after 12 seasons as the Dallas Cowboys’

quarterback. Aikman is one of only four quarterbacks to guide his team to victory in three Super Bowls (XXVII, XXVIII and XXX). In February 2006, Aikman was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. After leaving the playing field, he joined the NFL on FOX as a fulltime game analyst and has served on the network’s No. 1 NFL team since 2002. He has received three Emmy nominations for his broadcasting efforts and has broadcast four Super Bowls (XXXIX, XLII, XLV and XLVIII).
“Mandel may fear germs, but he certainly does not fear the spotlight! Mandel’s wit and charm are infectious as he takes a humorous look at his own obsession with cleaning, and shares experiences from his varied and successful career.” About Howie Mandel A constant force in show business for more than 30 years, renowned comedian, actor and host of his own syndicated talk show, Mandel has encompassed virtually all aspects of the entertainment spectrum, including television, film and stage. He is known for the series Take It All, Howie Do It and the hit game show Deal or No Deal. He currently serves as a judge on NBC’s hit summer talent competition series America’s Got Talent, with this being Mandel’s seventh season on the series.

STATE OF THE ECONOMY
Economic warriors One of the main events on Thursday is the State of the Economy panel discussion featuring the political minds of Brian Beaulieu, Jim Messina, Karl Rove and moderator Frank Luntz. These eminent panelists will begin their hour-long discussion at 9:00am and it’s guaranteed to provide a lively, insightful, thought-provoking – and possibly controversial – spectacle. Since the event is live and involves various personalities, there’s no telling what to expect, except that this phenomenal panel is just another reason to remain through ThurSTAY! “I can’t imagine finding a more qualified group of political minds to participate in this panel than these four gentlemen,” says Cleaning Management Institute training development specialist Lucas Wendt. “Their unmatched experience, knowledge and passion for political affairs will drive this discussion and guarantee an informative, can’t-miss event.” Meet the Panelists Brian Beaulieu For 35 years, in seven different countries, Brian Beaulieu has been delivering seminars and workshops to business owners and executives. He is a consultant to many organizations, providing a domestic and global perspective on how to forecast, plan and increase profits based on business cycle trend analysis. Jim Messina After running a successful re-election campaign for former US President Barack Obama in 2012, Messina received the Campaign Strategist of the Year Award from the American Association of Political Consultants for his efforts and unprecedented integration of technology into his strategy. He currently serves on the board of directors and/or advisory board for various technology companies, including Google’s Advanced Technologies. Karl Rove While serving former US President George W Bush from 2000–2007 as a senior advisor and as US deputy chief of staff from 2004–2007, Rove filled a wide variety of roles, including overseeing the offices of Strategic Initiatives, Political Affairs, Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs. Largely considered one of the best political minds of his time, he appears on several television shows and writes a weekly op-ed for The Wall Street Journal. He is also the author of two books, The Triumph of William McKinley: Why the Election of 1886 Still Matters and The New York Times best seller Courage and Consequence.
