CELLAR UP

WINES TO SHAPE YOUR CELLAR

As we've said before in this feature, different wine regions around the world tend to be known for specific styles, varietals or sub-regions. This is very much the case with Spain. We've featured regions and grape varieties here that represent the essence of Spanish wine. Add these to your cellar, and experience the best of all possible worldss. Once these wines arrive, experiencing Spain in your armchair, on your deck, at your dinner table or even at your favourite "Bring you own wine" restaurant, is at arm's length in your own cellar.

...AND FOR YOUR BAR

Gin

BELLADONNA NIGHT SHADE GIN, LANGEBAAN, LOT 3356, P63

Another contribution to the cocktail craze. Here is one that is a wine lover's dream. Distilled from the harmless and tasty Black Night Shade (Solanum Nigrum), you will be amazed (and will amaze your friends) with the colour changes that occur when you add tonic.

TARRIDA BRUT, TRADITIONAL METHOD, DO CAVA, ORGANIC, LOT 3322, P39

It is said that sparkling wine pairs with everything. Cava is no different. These versatile sparklers are made in the traditional method resulting in a fine, aggressive mousse. Refreshing! This particular Cava is a brut (dry) and will provide you with a quality sparkling for your cellar.

Albariño is to Spain what Viognier is to the northern Rhône in France: classic! Known for its distinctive botanical aroma and citrus notes, this varietal is expressed beautifully in this bottle. Born in Galicia, raised by a talented winemaker, enjoyed by us all.

MEDIUM-BODIED WHITE

Seafood such as oysters, scallops, sashimi, or salads with mild vinaigrettes

YOU & ME ALBARIÑO, DO RÍAS BAIXAS, VIONTA, 2021, LOT 3306, P55

LIGHT-BODIED RED

Many pastas, pork, poultry, sipping on its own

MEDIANÍAS, LISTÁN NEGRO, VIJARIEGO NEGRO Y TINTILLA, DO VALLE DE LA OROTAVA, TENERIFE, BODEGAS SUERTES DEL MARQUES, 2020, LOT 3297, P57

Just because the grapes in a wine are from a small parcel of land (think single vineyard, single barrel) doesn't make them exceptional. Winemakers spend a great deal of time discovering the best parcel's harvest for their premium labels. This is just such a wine. From the volcanic soils of the Canary Islands. Light in body, but full of spicy flavours.

MEDIUM-BODIED RED

Versatile; many meats without heavy sauces, casseroles

LA VIEJA ZORRA, SELECCIÓN ESPECIAL, DOP SIERRA DE SALAMANCA, 2017, LOT 3328, P57

Last year, Opimian Members provided this producer with the largest order they had ever received. They were so delighted; they had a party. This unique wine belongs in every cellar. A perfect expression of Rufete, an indigenous grape variety, in a blend. Wine of this quality with help get DOP Sierra de Salamanca featured prominently on the global wine map.
