Merlot-Driven Wines

The Right Bank of Bordeaux or Libournais, as it is known in France, is on the north side of the Gironde estuary and Dordogne River with Pomerol (its most famous Appellation) and Saint-Émilion inland. Soils are various combinations of clay, limestone and sand. Due to the cooler climate, earlier ripening Merlot dominates most right bank wines.
