HORNSEY DEPOT

PUBLIC CONSULTATION UPDATE

Hornsey Depot

Key findings

The Hornsey Depot site lies at the heart of Hornsey Town Centre. St James Group and Sainsbury’s are planning to develop the site to include a supermarket, residential apartments, work spaces and car parking.

Overall development - 57% of comments about the development were positive, with people keen for the site to be brought back into use. 13% of comments were neutral. 30% of comments raised concerns about the impact on the local area.

St James and Sainsbury’s aim to submit a planning application to Haringey Council at the end of September 2013, and hope to begin works on site in Spring 2014.

Transport and parking - This was by far the most cited topic - 30% of all comments. Of these, 45% of people had concerns about traffic and a lack of parking as a result of the new development. 37% of comments were suggestions for mitigating traffic issues.

Consultation to date Nearly 300 people have been involved in the consultation to date through the exhibitions and workshops held in June. We are very grateful to everyone who took the time to share their views. Soundings has analysed over 1000 individual comments and identified the key priorities from this feedback.

Scale and massing - People questioned whether the height and mass of the scheme is appropriate for the neighbourhood.

St James and Sainsbury’s will present their latest scheme at the next exhibition in September (see overleaf for details), responding to your comments on the initial proposals.

Pedestrian routes - The majority of comments were positive about the new routes being opened up through the site, or suggestions such as improving safety or cycling access along these routes.

Impact on local businesses - Concerns focused on the impact on local traders as a result of Sainsbury’s opening up. Many people made positive suggestions to mitigate this.
