From page 4

Close your eyes and imagine the summer holidays have begun. You and your family are on the motorway in search of "sun, sea and sand". The anticipation in the car is great, when suddenly smoke rises from under the bonnet and the journey has to come to an abrupt halt. Whether this happens on the way to your holiday, on a stressful business trip or on your average day, breakdowns are always unexpected and never come at a good time. They are often the result of a simple but annoying reason – wear and incorrectly installed spare parts. Find out what wear indicators to look out for in your timing belt to avoid major damage by reading the section "Wear is a serial offender".

From page 10

Whether we’re talking of meat and fish, fruit and vegetables or medicines and chemicals – for numerous goods, it’s essential that the cold chain is never interrupted if their freshness and perfect condition is to be guaranteed. If refrigeration units fail, companies face considerable financial losses. To ensure this does not happen and that frozen and refrigerated goods find their way into the retail trade unscathed, particular attention must be paid to quality when choosing spare parts. optibelt COOL POWER belts such as kraftbands, V-belts and V-ribbed belts ensure high operational reliability and reduced maintenance.

AUTOMOTIVEBRANDNEWS

It should also be borne in mind that refrigeration units also operate when trucks and commercial vehicles are not actually moving. To prevent breakdowns or technical problems, the belts must meet the most stringent quality requirements. As an original equipment manufacturer, Optibelt customers benefit from our competence as a leading belt specialist. Years of experience and expertise with kraftbands, V-belts and V-ribbed belts go into the development and production of COOL POWER belts at our headquarters in Höxter. With over 200 different measurements meanwhile, Optibelt has one of the largest aftermarket ranges and so is able to offer its customers the right product assortment.

Rostselmash is the biggest manufacturer of agricultural machinery in Russia and Eastern Europe. The company has been producing products such as combine harvesters, forage harvesters, tractors and balers for 90 years and sells them to more than 50 countries. The nine production sites of the overall corporate group employ 11,500 people, who now achieve an annual turnover of one billion euros. The best-selling combine harvester is the "Acros" model. It contains 30 different belt types with dimensions ranging from 92 cm to 986 cm. These belts from the optibelt AGRO POWER product line prove their mettle with their longevity, impressive smooth running properties, efficient power transmission and their capacity to withstand the forces of powerful modern engines.

s from sectors such as mechanical engineering, agriculture or household technology appreciate the high quality and reliahe bigger picture with you and present two interesting customers from Mexico and Russia.

Cement production requires enormous effort and extremely heavy-duty machines. In addition, the crushing of hard rock, the use of sand and the large amount of dust generated result in increased material wear. Customers such as LafargeHolcim, the world‘s largest cement manufacturer, therefore require high-quality, low-maintenance belts. As a result, Optibelt‘s maintenancefree drive solutions are also used at the Holcim plant in Colima, which is located in the middle of the Mexican jungle.

The safety aspect is of particular importance for production engineer Amado Gómez: "We are well aware of Optibelt‘s especially good quality and are fully satisfied with the products. That‘s why almost 100 percent of our machines are equipped with belts from Optibelt."

SECRET RECIPES. STRONG MACHINERY.

ALL CUT AND DRIED

STEP 1: Mix well …

MIXING In the first step, the various ingredients, such as rubbers and mineral oils are processed into a homogeneous mixture – 90 tons of rubber per week alone is needed in the parent plant at Höxter. Additives, such as carbon black or fibres are automatically fed and precisely dosed. Optibelt has mastered over 60 different "base mixes" – the mixing parameters must be accurately maintained in order to ensure the desired material properties in the later end product.

STEP 2:

Roll out and shape …

CALENDERING The material is rolled and cooled by rolling in the friction calender. The length and intensity of the rolling times are crucial for the material properties. Before further processing there is a thorough quality inspection and the resulting rubber sheet is placed wrinkle-free.

STEP 3:

Layer by layer …

STEP 4:

Bake in a mould …

MOULDING AND VULCANISING The basic belt is almost completed and will be vulcanised by means of high temperature and pressure to form a unit. It already stands out (depending on type) due to the previous steps with exactly defined material properties. Through the vulcanisation of the belt it gets its characteristic shape and profile (rib expression or tooth shape). By the way: Approximately 750,000 belts per year leave the Optibelt factory and are used worldwide.

STEP 5:

As good as ready!

CUTTING In the last production step customisation is required. Depending on the production order, or request of the customer the desired belt with individual number, ribbed V-belt, or special number of ribs is cut out from the vulcanised belt sleeve using precision tools. Last but not least they undergo intensive quality control because Optibelt customers only place perfect products on the table.
