1How long does it take to charge an EV?

Most EVs charge fully overnight, which is great if charging at home. A rapid charge-point can charge an EV battery to 80% of its range in just 30 minutes. While that's not as quick as filling up with petrol or diesel, if you've driven far enough to need a battery recharge, chances are you'll also want a comfort break. In the UK there are currently more than 30,000 public charge points at over 12,000 locations. At any given time, only 6% of the EV charge-point network is in use so ‘lack of infrastructure’ is no longer a valid excuse not to go green.

2What is the range of an EV?

Most modern EVs have a range that comfortably suit most people's daily needs. For longer journeys it's a good idea to use rapid chargers to top up. You can find them at motorway service car parks, petrol stations, larger shopping centres and supermarkets.

3Are electric cars expensive to run?

The short answer is ‘No!’ – running an electric car costs around 4p per mile, a petrol car costs about 11ppm whilst diesels cost approx.14ppm. To keep your costs as low as possible, it’s wise to make sure you’re on the best EV tariff for you needs.

4Do electric cars break down more?

No, they don't. An EV is less likely to break down than a petrol/diesel car because it has fewer moving parts. This is great news when it comes to EV maintenance costs. Even the brakes on an EV get much less wear and tear because EVs use regenerative braking.

5Can you drive and charge an electric car in the rain?

Of course you can drive or charge an electric car in the rain. You can drive through puddles safely and take your EV through a car wash whenever you like.
