MRS. KNOTT’S CHICKEN DINNER AT KNOTT’S BERRY FARM

FAMILY DINING MAMA COZZA’S A hometown favorite of singer Gwen Stefani, this is the place to get your classic Italian on. Locals enjoy the build-your-own pastas and hearty portions. Pizzas are baked with cheese over the toppings, plus anisette and orange slices are served after every meal. 2170 W. Ball Road, 714-635-0063; mamacozzas.com

MRS. KNOTT’S CHICKEN DINNER Flaky biscuits and all things boysenberry are tastes that draw diners to the outskirts of Knott’s Berry Farm. Creamy chicken noodle soup in the updated dining room is as satisfying as those crispy birds. Remember to validate parking. Knott’s Berry Farm Marketplace, 8039 Beach Blvd., Buena Park, 714-220-5055; knotts.com.

ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE This reliable breakfast chain knows its pancakes, but be sure to study the comprehensive morning menu for a variety of other options. An oven-baked, puffy Dutch Baby dish with a side of thick cut bacon qualifies as foodie heaven. Definitely worth the possible wait for a table when the restaurant is busy. 1418 E. Lincoln Ave., 714-535-9815; originalpancakehouse.com

THE PIZZA PRESS Offering pies “published” quickly and to-order, go with the house recommendations or have a “newsboy” assist in creating your own “edition.” From assembly to finish, you’ll have a piping-hot pizza in less than four minutes. Walk from the theme parks or order to-go; this pizza factory gets crowded. 1534 S. Harbor Blvd., 714-323-7134; thepizzapress.com

RUBY’S DINER Step back in time to the 1940s and experience nostalgia. Have a seat at the soda fountain, or slide into a red-vinyl booth with Formica tabletop for access to delicious diner classics. Filling breakfasts, juicy burgers and veggie options at reasonable prices mean there’s something for everyone. 1128 W. Lincoln Ave., 714-635-7829; rubys.com

Catch a Shuttle All around Anaheim, shuttles create a convenient and cost-effective network of transportation. AIRPORT SHUTTLES Circulating between hotels and airports, these are a smart option for travelers. Many hotels offer their own complimentary shuttles, but a few local names to know are The Disneyland® Resort Express, graylineanaheimcom; Mickey’s Space Ship Shuttle, mickeysairportbus.com; Super Shuttle, super-shuttle.com; Prime Time Shuttle, primetimeshuttle.com; and Karmel Shuttle, karmel.com

Though you can find car rental businesses at airports, there are many within the Anaheim Resort district catering to all budgets, such as Alamo Rent A Car and Avis Car Rental. Interstate 5, which runs directly through Anaheim, takes drivers north to Los Angeles and south to San Diego. The same interstate also connects to State Route 22 to Huntington Beach and State Route 55 to Newport Beach. alamo.com; avis.com

Call a Car If you aren’t renting a car, hiring a taxi or driver is a great option for seeing more of the city. California Yellow Cab and VIP Limousines & Coaches are two reputable organizations, or you can connect with Anaheim’s network of rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft. Riders can purchase single- and multiday passes from ART. californiayellowcab.com; viplimos.us; uber.com; lyft.com

THOUGHT

A GOLDEN CELEBRATION The Anaheim Convention Center marks its 50th year, boasting a rich history of hosting presidents, rock stars, comic book characters and the nation’s leading companies.

I T R E M A I N S A J EW E L O F the county, a striking, sweeping and inspiring structure that still looks as though it’s waiting for history to catch up with it. The Anaheim Convention Center opened its doors on July 12, 1967. Over the next several years, Elvis, The Who, The Bee Gees, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Elton John and David Bowie all played the world-class venue. The Center has hosted presidents and sports fans. In 1970, President Richard Nixon held an event in support of Ronald Reagan’s gubernatorial reelection campaign here. Several sports teams—including the American Basketball Association’s Anaheim Amigos—have called the Center home over the past five decades. The Anaheim Convention Center has expanded numerous times to accommodate more guests, including major additions in 1974, 1982, 1990, 1993, 1998 and 2000. Today, events such as the NAMM Show, Disney’s D23 Expo and BlizzCon are held here, making it one of Southern California’s premier venues.
