MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR From a single exhibit hall with sold out audiences for the leading performers of the era to its proud place today as the second largest convention center in North America, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has been on an exhilarating journey of growth through the years. Since opening its doors in 1983, the OCCC has undergone five expansions and has been the home to the meeting industry’s finest conventions and trade shows. With these major milestones, the OCCC facility has proven itself time and again to be a world-class venue capable of accommodating events from across the spectrum. After three decades of activity, the OCCC has embarked on its largest renovation project in history: a five-year, Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) which will ensure an even stronger foundation for its next thirty years and beyond. This is a time of great transformation and

OCCC CIP PREVIEW: CONNECTIVITY In keeping with the changing meetings landscape, much emphasis has been placed on the OCCC’s overall connectivity via technology and pedestrian bridges. Now, more than ever, show managers, exhibitors and attendees must be able to stay in touch across various platforms with multiple devices. Likewise, getting around the OCCC campus and to neighboring hotels with our above-ground bridge system is more than a welcome improvement. It is a necessity for convenience and — most importantly, safety. Through the CIP, the OCCC will ensure ongoing updates to connectivity.

INTERNATIONAL DRIVE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE The OCCC currently links to all of its neighboring hotels via a network of four pedestrian bridges. The fifth pedestrian bridge, spanning International Drive between the West Building’s Central Lobby Level III and the sidewalk in front of the Hyatt Regency Orlando, is estimated to be complete in early 2017.

WIRELESS UPGRADE A rendering of the International Drive Pedestrian Bridge due for completion in 2017

As part of its capital improvements and commitment to connectivity, the OCCC has upgraded its wireless system in both the North/ South and the West Buildings to accommodate the large volume of attendees on cell phones, tablets and portable devices at the same time and ensuring more reliable coverage. Now with 1,100 access points, the OCCC boasts one of the most robust convention center wireless networks in the nation.

OCCC CIP PREVIEW: ENHANCED INDOOR SPACES Repurposing areas throughout the OCCC complex is a primary aim of the CIP. Placement of new furniture groupings throughout OCCC concourses and renovation of the Gary Sain Café in the Central Lobby of the West Building are among the creative space makeovers included in renovation plans. The following are additional examples of CIP in action.

DESTINATION LOUNGES In the South Building, room S222 has now become a multi-purpose room for client use as well as client-related functions. Our goal was to create spaces that are designed with comfortable seating and open views, and that are technologyfriendly for small groups, individuals or private events.

VALENCIA BALLROOM The 62,182 square foot multiple-purpose room has been converted into a beautiful Ballroom with similar design as the new Tangerine Ballroom. Features includes new electrical, LED lighting and controls, access control system, data infrastructure, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection and architectural features such as

PUBLIC SPACES New carpet, renovated restrooms, energyefficient lighting and furniture groupings add a fresh look and feel to all public spaces throughout the West Concourse. The West Hall E/F Lobby public space has also benefited from custom terrazzo installed throughout the atrium area.

CENTER-TO-TABLE GARDENS

High-tech destination lounges offer opportunities to regroup and relax

Located in the Westwood Lobby, the 2,000 sq. ft. aeroponic structure has the ability to serve edibles grown on property in an all-natural, chemical-free environment. There are 81 towers cultivating 44 planting spots on each tower which will produce herbs and vegetables for meals prepared at the OCCC provided by our food service partner, Centerplate. The newly completed Center-to-Table Gardens provide herbs and edible greens for the Convention Center’s onsite food & beverage partner
