The Top Three Factors That May Stunt Your Height By Allan Armstrong

Although genetics plays a significant role in determining what your final height will be once you stop growing at a certain age, there are also many other factors in your environment and lifestyle that can actually prevent you from reaching your fullest height potential. You need to be aware of these factors and avoid or correct them as much as possible if you want to get as tall as you can be. Below are the top three factors that may stunt your vertical growth at any age.

1. Poor posture Haven’t we all been there before while we were still kids, when our parents would repeatedly scold us for slouching? Having poor posture is more common than you think, and it can be a serious problem which could greatly limit your height. Just think about it – your spine alone accounts for nearly half our vertical height already! Having a habit of poor posture from our childhood up to the time we’re adults not only makes us appear shorter than we really are, but over time our body actually gets used to it and causes our muscles to contract and keep our spine in that condition. It therefore takes more time and effort for us to re-train our muscles in the shoulders and back to hold our spine in a better posture. A good trick to help improve your posture immediately is to always imagine that you’re like a puppet with a string attached at the top of your head, and you’re constantly being pulled upward as you stand and as you walk. When you’re seated, train yourself to sit up straight as much as possible without leaning on the chair’s backrest. This helps strengthen you back and shoulder muscles to help support your spine and improve its posture over time. It may be hard to do at first because most of us are so used to leaning, but keep at it and see the results for yourself. Also, don’t underestimate the power of visualization! Always visualize yourself standing tall, walking tall, and sitting tall. If you do this repeatedly, pretty soon your body would automatically follow suit and adjust! Not only that, but your self-image will also improve and greatly give you more confidence about yourself.

2. Lack of Proper Sleep It may be common knowledge that you need to get at least 8-9 hours of sleep each night in order to grow taller, but there are some little-known facts about sleep that you may not know about. There is a big difference between regular sleep and proper deep sleep! You may be sleeping 8 or more hours each night, but your body may not be benefiting from it if you’re not getting the right kind of sleep your body craves for. The first question you should ask yourself is, “Am I sleeping in a room which has any form of light shining through?” Whether it’s from a dim light turned on each night ora little moonlight shining through, your body will not be able to secrete the proper amount of sleep hormone it needs to fall into deep sleep. It can only do so in the complete absence of light while you’re asleep. Also ask yourself at what time you fall asleep every night. Is it at midnight? Is it past 2 a.m.? Did you know that your body only repairs itself and grows between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.? If you go to bed later than 10 p.m. or worse, past 2 a.m., then you’re missing out on those 4 crucial hours of growth!

3. Having a toxic lifestyle and environment Have you noticed that most of the foods you can find at the supermarket these days are processed and junk food containing hydrogenated fats and chemical flavor enhancers like monosodium glutamate (MSG)? Most of the crops are from genetically modified organisms. The eggs, poultry and meat products have antibiotics and hormones injected into them. The beverages are made from artificial sweeteners and laced with preservatives and food coloring. Go around your home and notice all the different chemicals found in most household items like cleaners, detergents, soaps, shampoos. Our tap water is treated with poisonous waste products like chlorine and fluoride, and contains traces of lead and aluminum. These are just a few examples of how toxic our diet, lifestyle and environment can be. The newest generation of children is being exposed to an exponentially greater amount of toxic chemical compared to the previous generation before them. All these toxins are very difficult to eliminate and slowly build up in our bodies and affect not only our health, but our genetic structure itself. Studies have shown that too much accumulated toxins in the body can actually cause mutations in our DNA, which then get passed down to our children and the next generations after.

These mutations can seriously affect how tall we grow, since our DNA can no longer express their fullest potential. This is why it becomes very important to get rid of as much toxins in our bodies. Scientists have also shown that once the harmful toxins are lowered and completely eliminated from our system, our DNA start to regenerate and go back to their original, healthiest state! Regular and proper detoxification for growing taller is therefore an important key to prevent our growth from being stunted. As you can see, whether you’re still within the age range for growing and especially if you’re past that age and still want to grow taller, the three factors mentioned above need to be addressed in order for you to maximize your growth potential. It takes perseverance and dedication to accomplish, but the rewards will be great in the end not only for your height, but even for your health and wellbeing in the long run!
