Welcome! The uncertainty that Covid19 presented has been a challenge, but when the opportunity arose to take the spot usually reserved for the annual Labour Weekend ‘Spring Fling’ at the Kawhia Community Hall, coupled with the enthusiasm of the Pastor at Zion Church in Te Awamutu, and the added bonus of a ‘pop up’ style event at Te Awa the Base on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, OCT's 'Orchestra on Tour was born. We believe that all people of the Waikato can benefit from extraordinary orchestral experiences, and that means getting the orchestra out of the concert hall and into communities that don’t normally get the opportunity to hear live music, especially from an orchestra. OCT Ensemble, comprising 24 professional musicians, is conducted by David Kay, a French Horn player and conductor with the Auckland Philharmonia, and features soprano Jayne Tankersley. Music ranges from the popular ‘Libertango’ with exciting percussion beats, to Bach’s Air on a G String, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, to movements from Mozart’s Horn Concerto. The programme also includes the much loved Margaret Mahy story ‘The Lion in the Meadow’ which is narrated with a delightful orchestral score by Philip Norman, along with a brand new poem written especially for the tour which is set to music written by NZ composer David Farquhar. We want to encourage people of all ages to attend these concerts and hope this ‘family-friendly’ programme will appeal widely to our Waikato people. Due to the nature of the venues, this will also be a chance for anyone who has never heard a live orchestra to get up close and personal with the music and the musicians. The programme runs for approximately 75 minutes. PROUDLY SUPPORTED BY:
