Introduction

Technology is a critical point of innovation and even today, teachers find it difficult to interest students in this area. Could teaching robotics change that?

INQUIRE NOW 

Robotics would correspond to new digital technologies, strongly supported by the sector and universities in the coming years.

Before explaining to our children how to program a robot, we must first understand what a robot is.

The robotics technology has a processing unit, sensors to perceive its environment, and a motor to be able to move its limbs or its wheels. He can speak, produce sounds or flashes of colored lights in response to a certain environment following a certain instruction. Robots follow programmed commands and don’t just be controlled by remote control.

R O B OT I C S I S F U N ! It’s fun for kids: they can design their own robots and run races between them to develop positive competitiveness. The game and the pleasure are privileged, while remaining in direct contact with the theoretical concepts of programming.

KEY SKILLS FOR THE WORLD OF WORK Creating robots is the best method for teaching computer programming. Students find it abstract and complicated to learn programming. But by experiencing something physical like a robot, toy robots for kids , children can better understand concepts when using their hands. This gives them the knowledge and skills for the future labor market: thanks to the programming of robots , students can discover their abilities to a labor market that will soon require technological education in all areas.

C R E AT I V E T H I N K I N G Few areas of knowledge simultaneously integrate creativity and pleasure. Studies have shown that robotics can do both. In fact, students like to participate in activities in which they have full control, which is possible with robotics. And when learners are able to do cool things, they want to do more. Robots are a great way to experience learning by trial and error. Making mistakes and going back to work to see your robot act as desired is one of the educational virtues of programmable robots. Since the robot does not wait for the instructor’s consent to function well or poorly, the student is therefore forced to see for himself that his program is wrong. He will thus learn to identify the error responsible for the dysfunction and to remedy it by imagining a satisfactory solution. Because working with robots always aims to find a solution for the program to work and involves errors that can be corrected by keyboard. And when it comes to programming , there is not just one solution to achieve this goal, but several that the student can enjoy exploring.

A N I N T E R D I S C I P L I N A RY A P P R OAC H Robotics integrates a range of skills and thus promotes a learning environment for people with different talents. If properly operated, it also fosters a culture of teamwork. It helps students who might have difficulty learning in traditional classrooms. Robotics kits are the best tool for project-based learning and the most exciting way to learn by doing which involves a dynamic approach. Instead of teaching disciplines in silos on independent subjects, the lessons are well-rounded, project-based and inquiry-based, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. There are many courses for robotics apart from the ones that are taught on schools.

CONCRETE LEARNING Robotics allows students who need a concrete context to engage directly in their learning. Rather than attempting only the exercise of reflection in an abstract context where they must arrive at the solution by imagining the possibilities, without being able to manipulate and test their hypothesis. The integration of robotics makes it possible to make tangible concepts related to programming and computer thinking.

Conclusion

Creating and programming robots is a challenge. However, working on frustration helps students develop their ability to deal with failure. It gives them determination, which is crucial in the development of the personality. Robotics is gaining momentum in many schools around the world. It enables students to reap enormous benefits, not only for the present, but also for the future. So let us encourage the new era of technology and help our kids learn STEAM through this transversal tool.
