HISTORIC
THE LEGEND of JOHNSON’S CORNER Johnson’s Corner was selected as one of the ten “Best Breakfasts in the World” by Travel and Leisure Magazine in November, 1998. On April 13, 1999 Johnson’s Corner was recognized in the 106th Congressional Record of the U.S. House of Representatives. From that record, “They exemplify the industrious spirit and can-do attitude that has made America great.” These recognitions sum up who we are and what we strive for. In November of 2005, Johnson’s Corner completed a two and half year, six and one half million dollar renovation that helped to ensure that our legacy would endure. Whether named best truck stop restaurant in the country or best breakfast in the world, Johnson’s Corner has excelled in the simple things that make our customers happy. For this, and our ability to survive the daily challenges and changes, Johnson’s Corner is a treasured Colorado icon and a legend home and abroad.
e h t f o e Hom
In 1951, Joe S. Johnson and one of his managers Clayton Bearly, marked the outlines of a new gas station and cafe to be located on Colorado Highway 87 (the current Frontage Road). At that time, the location was exactly halfway between Denver and Cheyenne. With nothing around but farms and a beautiful view of the Front Range, Johnson’s Corner opened in 1952. Where most thought Joe crazy for building his newest facility out in the middle of nothing but farms, little did anyone know that a few years later construction would begin on an interstate highway that would run right in front of his cafe. Yes, the words “ If you build it, they will come ” never rang more true. When the interstate opened up in the early 60’s, the legacy of Johnson’s Corner truly began. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, Johnson’s Corner has never closed its doors, even during a huge two and one half year renovation. Known around the world for our delicious cinnamon rolls, we were also featured in a Hollywood movie. In 1995, Johnson’s Corner was a location for United Artists’ “Larger Than Life” film, starring Bill Murray and Matthew McConaughey. The list of “Who’s Who” that have passed through these doors is too lengthy to mention, and our employees are never surprised to see a star or celebrity sit down to eat. The history of Johnson’s Corner is very rich, and having you as a customer adds to the number who have blessed our doors. We thank you very much for supporting us.
s u o m a F d l Wor ! l l o R n o m a n n Ci When Joe passed away in 1981, Colorado lost a true pioneer and a dearly loved and respected individual. Joe was a humble servant and friend to all. Joe demanded that this business operate by supplying good food and good service at a fair price. We stand here today to uphold the high ideals that Joe stood for and to carry on the Johnson’s Corner tradition. We think that Joe would approve of the mission statement that we all live up to. Since 1952, Johnson’s Corner has endeavored to steadily improve the operations, to provide our customers with high standards of quality service, safety, comfort and convenient dining. Our mission is to improve upon, and continue to provide these services to our customers through integrity, honesty, teamwork and excellence. Our philosophy is, “do what it takes to service and support the finest people in the world – you, our customers.” We offer our employees a safe, wholesome and uplifting work environment so as to provide and ensure superior service, food and products to our customers. We only ask that you enjoy our food, our service and that God protect you on your journey.
