Silver Street Tavern
History
Silver Street has been a centerpiece of 2 downtown Waterville since the early 1900’s. Originally, the building was home to Giguere’s Clothing Store, hence the ornate "G" on the beautiful stained-glass windows. In the early 1970’s, a major renovation transformed this structure into a landmark restaurant known as The Silver Street Tavern, and so it operated for more than 30 years. Growing up only blocks away, I remember the crossfire of opinion as the beautiful and scantily clad lady was hoisted to the corner of Main Street to provide signage for the restaurant. As time passed, the naysayers soon grew to appreciate the artistry of the sculptor and the beauty of this mysterious woman. Who she is, we do not know. However, we do know that this timeless lady is a symbol of downtown Waterville at its finest moment and we welcome her back to our city. The Silver Street Tavern is available for
