NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
How do you create a character who is half man, half dog? Or a robot called 80HD? How do you make giant buildings that come to life or a truck hauling gallons of French dressing? Writers Kevin Del Aguila and Brad Alexander, two dads whose sons were mega Dog Man fans, came up with a ‘supa’ idea. They would set the show in George and Harold’s treehouse, and have the boys create a musical using objects on hand. Since George and Harold are the creators of Dog Man, this made perfect sense. Once that decision was made, it was a lot easier to come up with creative production solutions. After seeing Dog Man: The Musical, we hope you will be inspired to use cardboard, cottage cheese containers, boxes, Slinkys, and your imagination to put on your own Dog Man Musical.
Enjoy the show, Barbara Pasternack Artistic Director, TheaterWorksUSAA few words about the hero of our story:
While we celebrate Dog Man’s achievements and root for him, we also acknowledge that police reform is still needed across our country. Abuses of power and racially motivated killings by officers are not a matter of “a few bad apples,” but rather the result of a system embedded with institutional and cultural failures, institutional racism, and implicit bias that can all work together to expose civilians and police officers to harm. We hope that by lifting up a law-abiding, effective, empathetic police officer such as Dog Man as the example, we can help teach our next generation to hold the system accountable when it fails their community. For more resources geared towards young people about police reform and social justice, please check out this resource for parents.
Michael Hammerstrom Director of Marketing & Development, OCTLand Acknowledgement
Every community owes its existence and vitality to those who came before us, and whose lives created the story that has led us to this moment now.
Oregon Children’s Theatre respectfully acknowledges that we are on the unceded traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Cowlitz, Clackamas, Kalapuya, Molalla and many others who made their homes along the Columbia River.
We respectfully acknowledge the stewards of the land and continue the practice of Land Acknowledgement to offer recognition, respect, and remind us of the true story of the people who were already here, and broaden our perspective on our collective history.
In this spirit, Oregon Children’s Theatre pays respect to their elders, past and present. Please take a moment to consider the many legacies that bring us together here today.

We’re so happy you’re here! Whether this is your first time at a play, or you’ve seen many before, here are a few things to expect and ways to enjoy the show!
Be Attentive: Look and listen to the actors and musicians on stage. Notice how the costumes, scenery and music help tell the story. You may even be invited to sing along!
Be Careful: Remember that, during the performance, the lights in the theater will be dark, so if you need to move around it is best to go with a parent. Be safe by walking instead of running in the theater. Staying seated in your chair (or on a parent’s lap!) while keeping your hands and feet to yourself (not kicking the seat in front of you) will make sure everyone around you has a safe space to enjoy the show!
Be Kind by laughing when something is funny and applauding after songs! This lets the actors know you’re having a good time. We can also be kind by making sure the folks around us can see and hear the show. It’s easier for everyone to see and hear when we’re in our seats and listening carefully.
Remember that no food or drinks are allowed inside the theater during the performance, so enjoy your snacks outside before the show begins. If you feel overwhelmed and need to take a break, you can leave the theater at any time, just make sure you go safely with a parent. When you’re ready you can come back to see the rest of the show!
Parents, please remember that the video or audio recording of this performance by any means is strictly prohibited. Please turn off or silence any mobile devices that may make noise during the performance.
