Ron Swanson STYLE
BREAKFAST With all the bacon and eggs they have Ron Swanson once said: “Give me all of the eggs that you have,” and by golly, Eugene does not disappoint when it comes to legendary breakfast dishes, even ones for the likes of a Swanson. Whether you’re looking for the largest portions of bacon around or want to indulge in egg-free-eggs, the local eateries have a before-noon meal for you. Original Pancake House
The Original Pancake House has a menu that's not limited to but includes pancakes, omelets, crepes and waffles. Their famous Dutch Baby and Apple Pancake are mouthwatering treats. The Dutch Baby is a popover like a pancake covered with powdered sugar. It is soft on the inside and crunchy on the edges, which makes for the perfect combination. They make all their batter and syrups in-house, which is a lengthy task of love that you can taste in every bite you take. The service is lovely, and the atmosphere is welcoming.
3
Off The Waffle
One of my favorite breakfast spots is Off the Waffle. They brand themselves as “a magical place where everyone's dreams are bound to come true,” and I couldn't agree more. Off the Waffle offers a variety of creative sweet and savory waffles that are to die for. They specialize in making Belgian waffles and offer plentiful toppings. From bacon, cheese, avocado, and eggs to syrup, Nutella, fruit, and whip cream, your salty or sweet cravings will be settled. Goat In Headlights is one of their most popular waffles. It's a fluffy Liege Waffle with chevre, avocado, two sunny- side up eggs, and sprinkled with paprika. This local favorite leaves people wanting to come back the next day.

Addi’s Diner

Jazzy Ladies Cafe
Addi’s Diner is one of the most beloved places in Eugene. Their menu is known for having a little bit of everything, which makes it the perfect place to go with a group. I’d recommend ordering the pancakes and sharing a few different types. The restaurant's interior design is based on the movie Chevy Chase's Vacation, and it’s full of vintage vibes, which makes the place feel comfortable and fun. The place is quaint, and you may have to wait for seating, but their service is quick and makes up for it.
Jazzy Ladies Cafe and Coffeehouse has homestyle dining for the people of Eugene. They have some of the best breakfast enchiladas in town, and they’re a crowd favorite. Their eggs benedict are always perfectly done and delicious. It is a bit on the pricey side, but that is because they’re using highquality ingredients and fantastic seasoning. It’s a small place, but the food looks and tastes like it was made with love. Not only is the food out of this world, but the atmosphere and staff create a pleasant experience that leaves you wanting to return. It’s incredibly cozy, and, if you’re lucky, the sun shines throughout the place, which makes it a gorgeous place to eat on a lovely afternoon.
Morning Glory Cafe
Morning Glory Cafe is the place you want to go if you’re dining on a vegan or vegetarian diet. They are committed to making all their items from organic and locally sourced products. They have an egg-free omelet, made with a crispy potato shell, and are heavenly. Their sweet and tangy fresh-squeezed juice quenches thirst. On the weekends, there is often a long wait, but it’s worth it. They give you large portions, and the staff is very flexible if you need to order with dietary restrictions.

Best Breakfast Places to Beat Your Hangover Written and Photographed by Janie Velarde
Need a breakfast better than toast and and a cup of coffee? Well, here’s a list of the 10 best breakfast places for you and your friends to enjoy the morning after your evening escapades.
The Original Pancake House:
The Original Pancake House is the perfect spot if you wake up with a need for pancakes—or any signature American breakfast for that matter. Though it gets a little busy on the weekends, the huge servings are well worth the wait.
Cornbread Cafe:
Cornbread Cafe is a vegan and gluten-friendly breakfast spot in Eugene and Springfield. The eclectic little cafe has all your favorite breakfast dishes, but with the vegan alternatives everyone in your group can enjoy a hearty meal. If you thought this place couldn’t get any better, guess again. The patio area is pet friendly, so you might be able to admire some little creatures while you enjoy your breakfast.
Jazzy Ladies Cafe:
Are you looking for healthier alternatives to some traditional breakfast dishes to start your day right? Jazzy Ladies Cafe is a nice, intimate cafe that will appeal to your healthy cravings. If you’re not into breakfast food you’ll be happy to hear that Jazzy Ladies Cafe also serves lunch.
Brail’s Restaurant:
Brail’s Restaurant has won several awards for having the best hangover food in Eugene and if you eat here you’ll understand why. The staff and owners of Brail’s are so hospitable and attentive to their customers. Not to mention the food and coffee are unbelievably good. Check it out for yourself!

Riva’s Taco Shop:
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably looking for a breakfast burrito the morning after a much-too-fun night with your friends. It’s a whole breakfast wrapped up in a warm tortilla bigger than your head, what else could you possibly ask for? There are a wide variety of burritos to choose from and “giant burritos” if you’re dealing with the drunchies.
Mandy’s Family Restaurant:
Morning Glory:
Morning Glory is a vegetarian and vegan paradise. It’s the oldest vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Eugene and the perfect place to recover from a hangover. Even though the menu is all vegetarian and vegan friendly, meat-eaters who eat at Morning Glory will leave satisfied, smiling and hopefully a little less hungover.
Cafe Roma:
You’ll never have to worry about making it to Mandy’s in time for breakfast. This breakfast, lunch and dinner spot is open 24 hours. With such a massive menu it’s sometimes hard to make a decision, luckily you can’t go wrong with any of the dishes.
If you need something light to settle your stomach and heavy amounts of caffeine to help you through your hangover, visit Cafe Roma on 13th. They have fresh bakery items to nibble on while you enjoy your java. There is plenty of space for you and your friends to recover from your evening and brief on your antics from the night before.
McDonald’s:
Off the Waffle:
McDonald’s is a classic cure for any hangover and you won’t burn a hole through your pocket like you probably did at the bars last night. For under 10 dollars you can build a breakfast combination that will revive you so you can face the day with hungover gusto.
Off the Waffle is Oregon-based and Belgian inspired. The family-owned restaurant serves authentic liege waffles, waffles with small clumps of sugar in the batter and a variety of gourmet toppings to choose from. You will not find a better waffle house in Eugene.

Being a college student means drinking coffee and taking breakfast to-go more often than not. Throughout Eugene, there are countless numbers of coffee shops where you can buy a cup of joe, a matcha latte or delicious donuts. Here’s some suggestions to help you navigate the best grab-and-go breakfast and coffee spots around.
Dizzy Dean’s Donuts Dizzy Dean’s Donuts has amazing hot coffee and donuts. They have maple bacon bars, buttermilk bars, oreo donuts and apple fritters. Their apple fritters are heavenly and one of the best I’ve ever had. They’re doughy, warm and the flavors melt perfectly together in your mouth. They offer Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, which is smooth and creamy. You can even add vanilla, mocha, cookies & cream or pumpkin spice flavoring into your coffee if you’re craving something a bit on the sweeter side. Monday - Sunday: 3 am to 12 am

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, putting us all in the mood to be a little romantic. There are plenty of great go-to date night spots around Eugene, but why not switch it up? If you usually go for something fancy, try going out for a game night. If casual dining is more your style, consider an activity like bowling. Here are some of our recommendations for the best night with your bae.
16
CHEWS & BREWS 2020
Get Love Struck Lane 25 is Eugene’s only 21+ bowling alley, so your date night won’t be disrupted by any rowdy children! It’s the perfect place for a party of two or a group date. They have a restaurant open as early as 11am and you can bowl from 4pm10pm Sunday-Thursday and 4pm-12am Fridays and Saturdays. Even better, you can save some money by taking advantage of their specials, like Happy Hour Bowling from 4pm-6pm Sunday-Friday.
Butter Me Up Who doesn’t love dinner and a movie? Start your evening at 5th Street Market’s Public Market Eateries, a food courtstyle dining venue with class. The Market is always lit up with beautiful string lights, and is a great place to just walk around with someone you love. Food ranges from poke to Greek, and from ramen to burgers. The Eateries are open MondaySaturday 11am-7pm. After dinner, head across the street to the David Minor Theater, an intimate establishment that’s home to only two theaters.
Feelin’ Fancy Oakway Center is just far enough from campus to feel a little different, and it has a few more upscale options if you’re looking to splurge. If you’re over 21, start your evening at SkyBar, a rooftop bar atop the Hilton. If it’s not raining, you and your bae can cozy up with a cocktail next to their fancy fire pits under tasteful string lights. After enjoying your libations, head to one of the many restaurants in Oakway for dinner. Novo is a Latin restaurant with reasonably-priced tapas after 8, and they’re open until 10:30pm Fridays and Saturdays. Sabai offers southeast Asian cuisine in a romantic atmosphere that’s well worth the price. They’re open for lunch 11am-3pm and dinner 4:30pm-10pm.
Stick to the Classics I get it - sometimes it’s best to just go out for a nice romantic dinner. The Vintage is a snug spot with cozy ambiance and reasonably-priced meals. Go in for happy hour, 4pm-5:30pm daily, for buy-one-get-one-half-price tapas. And speaking of tapas, Izakaya Meiji in the Whiteaker offers Japanese small plates in an upscale pub-like atmosphere. Plates range from $2 to $12, and night owls are in luck: they’re open 5pm-1am every night (under 21 until 10pm). Mazzi’s is a hidden gem down by Amazon Park that opened in 1970; you’ll probably be the youngest people there, but their heaping portions delicious Italian are good enough to split.
Game On Up for some friendly competition? Take your date to Game Pub, a video game bar in downtown Eugene. Unassuming on the outside but full of fun on the inside, Game Pub’s walls are lined with TVs hooked up to various gaming consoles. Grab one of their specialty Pokémon-themed cocktails and sit down for a game of Mario Party, Super Smash Bros., and so much more! They’re open 5:00pm-2:30am every day, so you’ll have time to catch a slice at Sizzle Pie just around the corner no matter how late you game!
A Wintertime Picnic A picnic in February might sound crazy, but there are ways you can enjoy a nice view while staying warm. It’s a quick drive to the top of Skinner’s Butte, and the city lights at night are oh so nice. Just blast your heater for a minute before parking! The view is made even better when it’s accompanied by food. Personally, I’d bring dessert, and Sweet Life is always the way to go. Sweet Life is open until 11pm, so you can grab one of their specialty Valentine’s Day desserts to go and drive up the Butte for a late-night date.
Spend the Night In Ever been shopping at Trader Joe’s and wish you could raid the freezer aisle? Well, there’s no better time than Valentine’s Day to treat yourself. Stock up on yummy meals and desserts, and go home to finally binge that Netflix show you’ve always wanted to watch with your partner. CHEWS & BREWS 2020
