Ask a “Cannisseur” Eugene Munchies From the Dogghouse Rules & Regulations

T

here are a lot of holidays college students look forward to: at Christmas, you see your family after a long fall term. Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate your loved ones. On top of that, there are birthdays galore! But there’s one informal holiday that lights up the competition -- 4/20! In honor of the greenest of holidays, we asked UO students a few 4/20 related questions. These included their favorite munchies and music, their favorite trending strain and what their plans are for the occasion. Here’s what they said:

On 4/ 20, I’m just gonna go to school and finish work, and then smoke in the evening. Cookies ‘n’ Cream is my favorite strain, but I don’t really have a preference -- it’s whatever comes to me. My go-to munchie would have to be chips. I like J Cole, so any of his albums are perfect for stoned listening.

Heather Words: Skyla Patton

My favorite strain is Green Crack, the first time I tried it I stayed up all night and cleaned my room, so it made me feel so productive, it was really a great feeling. I pretty much always listen to Badillac [by Together Pangea], but when I’m stoned and listening it’s a whole different experience. It makes you feel like you’re releasing all your frustration with life and feeling powerful and badass. Popcorn is my favorite munchie, and I’ll probably just be studying.

My favorite strain at the moment is probably Purple Kush. It gives me a really great body high, which I love! I actually just bought an O.pen Vape too. It’s a quick and easy way to get high, plus it’s convenient because it doesn’t smell like weed. I like edibles too, because they’re so potent and the high lasts for a while. When I get the munchies, I can eat pretty much anything that is put in front of me... sour cream and onion chips, ice cream, peanut butter sandwiches are always a good go-to for me. I have no official plans as of now, but I’ll probably just take an edible with my roommate and order Dough Co.

FRANKIE I don’t have a preference for strain, it’s pretty much whatever is given to me, but I definitely prefer mind highs over body highs. I have a small pipe that’s easy to store, but I do prefer bongs because I think they’re more fun. When I’m high I always crave sweets. Chewy candy, chocolate cake, and also cream soda for some reason… -- flavors are so amazing! Chill music goes the best with the feeling of being stoned I think, like Childish Gambino because he’s so funky, but honestly anything is fine really. I don’t have plans for the date, but I might get high, who knows? Probably.

Uly's Taco Shack

The Dough Co.

Although a popular spot for those who have the “drunchies” after a night at the campus bars, Uly’s is also a satisfying grub option for the munchies. If you find yourself near campus on Friday or Saturday night, you can expect to find the Uly’s Taco Shack food truck parked across the street from Taylor’s Bar from 10 p.m. - 3 a.m. Be sure to order the everpopular Trifecta which includes one of each taco from the menu. The Dough Co. delivers until 3 a.m. every day of the week.

Burrito Boy After picking up a new strain at Cannabliss’ the Sorority, head to the nearby Burrito Boy location, located right across the street from The Hub. Whether you want all the fixings or you like to keep it simple, Burrito Boy has it all. If you’ve got a case of the supermunchies, try a Chile Relleno or Taquito Combo Plate. Burrito Boy also has an impressive array of side and snack items, which are perfect for a lighter pick-meup. The quesadillas and nachos are great choices, especially for those wishing to forego meat. Burrito Boy is located at 510 E. Broadway and is open 5 a.m. - 12 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, 24 hours a day from Wednesday through Saturday and 12 a.m. 11 p.m. on Sunday.

From the Dogghouse that time I met Snoop Dogg

Words: Delaney Rae

They say you should never meet your heroes. Luckily, that’s not really what happened here. On a sunny Saturday in April, Snoop Dogg brought his Mount Kushmore Wellness Retreat Tour to Eugene. In an inspired piece of crosspromotion with Snoop’s concert, local weed dispensary Jamaica Joel’s hosted a meet and greet with the rapper. He was joined by fellow hip-hop artist B-Real of the 90s rap super-group Cypress Hill. Both rappers would perform together that evening at the Cuthbert Amphitheater, in what was sure to be a mustattend event for any hip-hop fan from the 90s. In Eugene, there seemed to be no shortage of 90s hip-hop fans – a line of people, who’d paid a premium for the privilege, were eager to meet the artists behind classic hits like “Gin and Juice” and “Insane in the Brain.” The line of fans extended all the way down the block that day,

much to the chagrin of the vendors next door. A particularly enthusiastic Dogg disciple loudly explained to me just how pissed off his wife was that she was missing the event. Most patrons waiting for the signing sported a similar style: shirts and hats featuring both B Real and Snoop Dogg memorabilia, as well as winningly eager attitudes towards the chance to meet their heroes. And then there was yours truly, a somewhat out-of-his-element writer from the Emerald Media Group in a light blue oxford button-down, as if the tiny notepad I clung to didn’t scream “young journalist” loudly enough already. My main purpose for attending the event wasn’t due to any Snoop fandom. Still, the rapper’s legacy was enough to inspire some butterflies. And though the lyrics of Snoop’s recent politically-charged single, “Lavender,”

showed off his knack for timeliness, his punctuality to the event did not. His appearance was scheduled for 3:30, but in what was either divine coincidence or a masterclass in selfawareness, Snoop showed up right at 4:20. Before long, the line began to dwindle. Each fan got their long-awaited chance to snag a photo with Snoop. My plan of attack was simple enough: ambush Mr. Dogg with a voice recorder and a couple of snappy questions about that night’s concert. After executing a similar strategy with B-Real earlier, the plan seemed foolproof. I cannot adequately describe just how foolish of a prediction this was for how the experience would go down. As I slowly approached the back room of Jamaica Joel’s where the artist formerly known as Snoop Lion resided, the protocol for the event was shouted out by a large bouncer named Tiny: “No signatures – he’s only doing pictures. Have your phones ready! He’s only doing pictures!” The prospect of a potential interview was looking pretty slim at this point. The photo prints of Snoop performing in a Mariota jersey I’d been asked to get autographed for the Emerald’s office had to be discarded – if I hoped to ask my questions, it could be my only priority. Upon entering the room, the Sister Nancy reggae track “Bam Bam” (also known as the

driving sample featured in Kanye’s infamous “Famous”) boomed so loudly, it threatened to break the subwoofers. An obligatory haze of smoke clouded over the room, adding a distinct aura that I would describe as “weed-mystique.” Behind the counter danced Snoop Dogg. I handed my camera-ready phone over to the designated photographer/bouncer, and approached Snoop with an outstretched hand. “Nice to meet you, Snoop,” I said in what was likely the dorkiest tone possible. Without a word, he firmly shook my gently trembling hand and struck an incredibly smooth pose. Naturally, I responded with an incredibly non-smooth pose of my own.

to my own nerves, the bouncers at the tail-end of a long day, or simply a too-high-to-talk Snoop Dogg, but the interview did not exactly go as hoped. But I’m not bitter – the entire experience would have been half as memorable if it were a run-of-the-mill Q&A. In the immortal lyrics from the track “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” by Snoop Dogg himself, “We gotta give ‘em what they want. We gotta break ‘em off something – and it’s gotta be bumpin.’” It was bumpin,’ Snoop. It was bumpin’ indeed.

Nice to meet you, Snoop. Three dimly-lit photos were snapped, in which I appeared to be on the verge of nervousnessinduced vomiting. I was then pushed out of the room with great enthusiasm and handed a “Mount Kushmore” t-shirt. Soon after, Snoop made his escape, and my chance to get even the briefest interview was lost -- most likely forever. It may have been due

In 2015, Oregon became the third U.S. state to legalize recreational marijuana. However, since the legalization, the laws and regulations surrounding recreational marijuana use have been complicated to say the least. As a consumer, it is important to stay up-to-date with the most recent legislation in our state. In order to keep you smart, safe and informed, we compiled a list of some of the most important legal details.

Adults 21 and over are legally allowed to grow up to 4 plants at their home without having to notify public officials. Adults 21 and over are legally allowed to possess up to 8 ounces of consumable marijuana for personal use in their homes. When not at home, a user may only possess up to 1 ounce. Recreational distributors must hold an OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission) recreational marijuana license. You may only purchase recreational marijuana from licensed distributors. The OLCC keeps a record of every licensed retail store on their website. Be sure to use this as a resource. The legal purchasing limit for an individual consumer is: 1. One ounce of usable marijuana if a recreational consumer, 2. 24 ounces of usable marijuana if a registered OMMP (Oregon Medical Marijuana Program) patient or designated primary caregiver, 3. 16 ounces of a cannabinoid product in solid form, 4. 72 ounces of a cannabinoid product in liquid form, 5. Five grams of cannabinoid extracts or concentrates whether sold alone or contained in an inhalant delivery system, 6. Four immature marijuana plants, or 7. Ten marijuana seeds. Recreational users are not permitted to purchase medical grade marijuana. Medical grade marijuana will only be sold to OMMP registered patients.

When travelling, leave, your recreational marijuana at home. Because secure areas in airports and airliners are controlled by the federal government, TSA will confiscate any recreational marijuana you try to bring through security. Marijuana is not allowed in checked baggage, carry-ons, or anywhere on your person. Taking marijuana from one legal state to another is still a federal crime. It is illegal to carry recreational marijuana across state lines, even if both of those states have legalized it. Users may only consume marijuana in private spaces: your home, a friend’s home, etc. It is illegal to consume marijuana in public, which includes places like hotel and apartment building hallways and lobbies, a front porch or any outside area that is visible to the street, even if it is on your private property, the streets, schools, and public parks. Public consumption is illegal even if you are using a more discreet device such as a vape pen. Out-of-state visitors may legally purchase and possess recreational marijuana, but only while they are in Oregon. They will not be able to transport it back to their home state. Selling marijuana to a person under the age of 21 is a class C felony and is punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Landlords are given legal right to prohibit cannabis consumption and cultivation on their property. Riding your bike while under the influence of marijuana is just as illegal as driving while stoned, and may result in an arrest.

G

enerally, when it comes to recreational marijuana use, it is integral to stay informed. While many states are beginning to systematically decriminalize recreational marijuana use, the laws are still new, and new intricacies are being added all the time. It is possible to be a responsible recreational user, and knowing your rights and your limits will make for a more care-free recreational experience. Be sure to stay updated at oregon.gov/olcc/marijuana, and to do your research whenever you are unsure of the most current recreational rules and regulations. PA G E 8
