MEDIA INFORMATION MEDIA AVAILABILITY

INTERVIEW POLICIES

All interview requests for players and coaches require 24 hours notice and must go through the Media Services Office. Interviews will take place during a 15-minute window at the conclusion of each practice. No player interviews will be granted on the day before a game.

CREDENTIALS

Requests for press box and photo credentials for all games at Autzen Stadium must be made as far in advance as possible to the Director of Media Services. When time permits, credentials will be mailed. Otherwise, credentials will be left at Will Call, located at the ticket booth near the South Gate. Defined priority for receiving credentials will be as follows: (1) Representatives of outlets requiring daily deadlines, commercial television stations, OSN affiliate radio stations, nationally circulated publications and outlets who regularly cover the visiting team; (2) Area weekly and periodical publications, radio stations not affiliated with the OSN and additional campus outlets. Outlets that regularly cover the Ducks will receive a higher priority possible. Visiting representatives also are encouraged to inform their local SID of pending coverage. Only outlets producing audited circulation or audience totals will be granted working credentials.

PARKING

A limited number of parking passes will be made available through the Oregon Media Services Office. Access to parking (Lots 8 and 9) may be obtained via Leo Harris Parkway directly south of the stadium press box.

TELEPHONES & INTERNET

Oregon will have telephones in the press box for use with third-party, collect or credit card calls only. Access instructions for wireless internet can be obtained outside the Media Services workroom.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

All photographers must check out a photo vest prior to kickoff at the Media Services workroom in the press box. Credentialed personnel working the sidelines must obey the NCAA rules pertaining to sideline boundaries. Photographers are to be no closer than six feet to the playing field and must be outside the 25-yard lines at each end of the field. Photographers are not allowed inside the team boxes. Passes and vests must be worn in an easily visible manner by all photographers in all weather conditions. A work area to send digital photos is located underneath the stands in the east end zone. Television videographers wishing to setup tripods in the Casanova Center Press Room prior to the game for the post-game press conference must do so twoand-a-half hours before kickoff.

LOCKER ROOMS

Oregon’s locker room is located in the Casanova Center, west of Autzen Stadium. The visitor’s locker room is located underneath the west end of Autzen Stadium. The home locker room is closed following the game, but Oregon’s postgame interviews are conducted in an adjacent media room located in the Casanova Center. For the visiting team’s postgame interview policy, contact the visiting SID.

OSN RADIO NETWORK

The Oregon Sports Network begins its 25th season of operation within the athletics departments, continuing to broadcast all Oregon football, men’s and women’s basketball contests and coaches shows exclusively along its state-wide affiliate network. Veteran Oregon sportscaster Jerry Allen, now in his 25th year as the Ducks’ popular radio play-byplay voice, is joined by former UO quarterback Mike Jorgensen for his 22nd season. The cornerstones of the Oregon Sports Network are Cumulus Broadcasting (KUGN, 590-AM) in Eugene/Springfield and Alpha Broadcasting (750 The Game [AM]) in Portland. KUGN has been the Eugene broadcast partner for the last 17 years, while KXL has been part of the network since its inception.

OSN TELEVISION NETWORK

Select Oregon football games will be televised over the Oregon Sports Network on Comcast SportsNet Northwest (37) throughout the states of Oregon and Washington. Joe Giansante handles the play-by-play duties for Oregon Sports Network TV programming, while former Oregon defensive back and 13-year NFL veteran Anthony Newman returns for an ninth year as an analyst for the TV network.

Can Lightning Strike a Third Time The Ducks certainly won’t have to wait long to be tested as they face LSU in the Sept. 3 season opener in Dallas before opening the inaugural Pac-12 season on the road at Arizona Sept. 24. OFFENSE The most prolific offense in school history returns key components from a unit that led the nation in scoring and total offense, while ranking fourth in rushing (286.2 yards per game). The Pac-10’s (now Pac-12) top rushing attack five years running returns a deep backfield that figures to be among the nation’s best. Doak Walker Award winner and Heisman Trophy finalist LaMichael James returns for his junior season after eluding defenders for the past two seasons. In that span, James has raised the bar for Oregon running backs by amassing 3,694 all-purpose yards in his career. James led the nation with 1,731 yards rushing (144.3 per game) while scoring 24 total touchdowns. His dominance on the field led to a slew of accolades that ended with him becoming UO’s first unanimous All-American and its highest finisher (third) in the Heisman Trophy voting. While James will once again be the focal point of the Ducks’ rushing attack, he won’t be carrying the burden alone. Also returning to the mix is junior Kenjon Barner, who rushed for 551 yards and averaged 6.1 yards per carry while tallying nine touchdowns (6 rushing, 2 receiving and 1 punt return). He displayed his explosiveness in the season-opener vs. New Mexico when he tallied 207 allpurpose yards (147 rushing, 60 receiving) and five touchdowns in the first half. Part of the emphasis during fall camp will center around finding a third running back to add to the Ducks’ depth. Walk-on redshirt freshman Ayele Forde emerged from the spring with a slight edge in that battle over Lache Seastrunk, who has since left the program, leading all rushers with 46 yards on 14 carries in the Spring Game. Freshmen Tra Carson and DeAnthony Thomas also will be given the opportunity to work their way into the mix. Considered to be a major question mark entering the 2010 season, the Ducks found long-term stability at quarterback

when Darron Thomas assumed the starting role he would never relinquish. Thomas, now a junior, earned secondteam all-Pac-10 honors after throwing for 2,881 yards and 30 touchdowns while only tossing nine interceptions. One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country accumulated 486 yards and five touchdowns on the ground as well. He is coming off the best performance of his collegiate career in the season finale, responding on a national stage in the BCS Championship by completing 27 of 40 passes for 363 yards and two scores. Backing up Thomas is redshirt freshman Bryan Bennett, who moved up to second on the depth chart following Nate Costa’s season-ending injury last fall. Bennett was a four-star recruit from Crespi High School in Encino, Calif., and was considered one of the top 15 prep quarterbacks in the country at the time of his signing with the Ducks. He got extensive reps on the field during Oregon’s spring game, throwing for 98 yards. Sophomore Dustin Haines will once again provide depth to the position after seeing the field in 2010 and true freshman Marcus Mariota is expected to strengthen UO’s stable of signal callers. The primary offensive challenge facing Oregon will be replacing its top two receivers from a year ago in Jeff Maehl (1,076 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns) and D.J. Davis (42 catches, 3 touchdowns). Senior David Paulson emerged as the latest in a long line of productive UO tight ends in 2010, earning first-team all-conference honors from the league coaches and honorable mention AllAmerica status from Sports Illustrated. Paulson led UO with 17.4 yards per catch while hauling in four touchdown passes and accounting for 418 yards through the air. He proved both his talent and durability all season long, playing the second most snaps on the team. Yet the first-team all-conference choice looms as Oregon’s only tight end who has played a snap at the collegiate level. Brandon Williams ably filled the role as the program’s second tight end last season and was expected to duplicate that responsibility his senior season before a chronic injury has forced him to prematurely give up the game. That opens the door for a pair of

GENERAL INFORMATION

Two consecutive BCS bowl appearances have done nothing to quench Oregon’s thirst for a third straight opportunity. First of all, the Ducks are searching for their first triumph in such games since winning the 2002 Fiesta Bowl against Pac-12 Conference newcomer Colorado. Secondly, they could make history of their own as they have never put together a trio of consecutive league championships in the 115 years of the program. But those familiar with the school’s third-year Head Coach Chip Kelly understand that’s probably the furthest thing on his mind. That line of thinking is not how the two-time conference coach of the year successfully guided teams to a 22-4 record over the course of his first two seasons in Eugene. It’s impossible to argue with the formula for success thus far which has led Oregon to accumulate 17 conference wins in 18 tries the last two years, as well as an unblemished Autzen Stadium string of 13 straight triumphs under his tutelage. It didn’t take long for the disappointment from last year’s unfinished business to quickly focus on the future. The immediate challenge that awaits the program which finished last season ranked third in the country is the replacement of 11 starters from a year ago. Yet just as crucial will be the absence of 25 lettermen - including 20 of them who provided the leadership over the course of multiple seasons - who supplied much of the depth that has allowed the Ducks to thrive in a fast-pace style of play. However there won’t be too many opposing coaches who are going to feel bad for Oregon’s plight with the return of 87 percent of last year’s school recordsetting total offensive production as well as 93 percent of its scoring. The Ducks led the country in both categories in 2010, averaging 530.69 yards and 47.0 points per game, respectively. Defensively, Oregon may not be quite as flush in returning statistical leaders with the departure of five of the top seven tacklers. However with the program often employing as many as 20 different defenders in any given game, the greater challenge may be uncovering replacements for those reserves who came off the bench to spell the more notable headliners.

highly-decorated, yet inexperienced, former Oregon prep standouts to make an impact sooner than expected. Freshman Curtis White redshirted last season and possesses the size (6-5, 250) to become a physical presence at the line of scrimmage. True freshman Colt Lyerla graduated from high school early in order to join the Ducks for spring drills. He provides the athleticism that led to three catches for 37 yards in the Spring Game. Flanking Paulson at wide outs are senior Lavasier Tuinei and sophomore Josh Huff. Tuinei snared 36 receptions - the most among the returnees for the Ducks last season. After missing the final two games of the regular season, he regained his health to finish second among all receivers with 75 yards receiving in the BCS National Championship game against Auburn. Huff’s emergence as a true freshman gave the Ducks four lethal receiving options last season. He finished his first collegiate season with 517 yards from scrimmage (303 yards receiving, 214 rushing) and scored five touchdowns. Opportunities exist for a number of players to earn playing time at the other receiver spots. Junior Justin Hoffman (3 catches, 15 yards in 2010) is coming off a strong spring camp, as is Will Murphy (2 catches, 22 yards in 2010). Former backup quarterback Daryle Hawkins, now a fulltime receiver, also caught four passes for 26 yards and one TD as a freshman last year. Add to the list sophomores Blake Cantu and Nick Cole, as well as redshirt freshmen Eric Dungy and Keanon Lowe, and its easy to see Oregon is long on candidates yet short on experience. The Ducks also have four wide receivers who will join the team for fall camp in Devon Blackmon, B.J. Kelley, Tacoi Sumler and JC transfer Rahsaan Vaughn. The offensive line will see some new names in the starting lineup in the fall, but the heavy rotation of players the Ducks have employed over the years figures to leave an experienced starting unit despite replacing three starters in the trenches. Senior tackles Mark Asper and Darrion Weems, along with junior Carson York will once again do the heavy lifting up front to open holes in the running game and keep their quarterback upright. York earned first-team all-Pac-10 honors from two sources (Scout.com and Phil Steele) while Weems and Asper logged 18 starts

between them a year ago. An open competition is highlighting the other two starting spots on the line, with junior Nick Cody looming as the most experienced hand among the nonstarters, logging 20 appearances his first two years. Sophomore Karrington Armstrong and redshirt freshman Hroniss Grasu are vying for the primary duties at center while senior Ramsen Golpashin and redshirt junior Ryan Clanton add depth to the interior line and can’t be dismissed as candidates to move into the starting lineup. The wildcard among the group could be the return of redshirt freshman Hamani Stevens following a two-year mission. While he is likely to require time to get reacclimated to the physical nature of the game following a two-year absence, he was considered one of the Ducks’ top offensive line recruits when he first joined the program in 2008. DEFENSE While Oregon made headlines with its prolific fast-paced offense, the Ducks’ defense put together a dominant season of its own. In 2010, the Ducks ranked second in the country in forced turnovers (37), seventh in tackles for loss (7.5 per game) and 12th in scoring defense (18.7 points/game) to provide a great complement to the nation’s top offense. Oregon opened the year with two shutouts in its first two games and held opponents to 20 points or less seven times a year ago. The UO defense got better as games wore on as well, often completely shutting opponents down in the second half. The Ducks yielded 160 points in the first half and trimmed that nearly in half to 83 in the final 30 minutes (less than seven points per game). What was the secret of their success? Uncanny depth. Over 20 players saw significant playing time and those fresher bodies stole the advantage down the stretch as the Ducks yielded only 27 fourth quarter points all year. The challenge this year is not only in replacing six starters on an underrated, if not occasionally dominant unit, it’s finding those extra bodies to continue the trend of wearing down the opposition throughout the game. A defensive line that produced 22.5 sacks last season will be replacing stalwart

UNIVERSITY OF OREGON DUCKS All-America honors from SI.com. He is joined in the backfield by senior free safety Eddie Pleasant (65 tackles, 2 sacks) and senior cornerback Anthony Gildon (18 tackles). The experience doesn’t stop there as backup safeties Brian Jackson (16 tackles, 1 interception) and Avery Patterson (19 tackles, 1 interception) both saw action in all 13 games last season. On the outside, redshirt freshmen Troy Hill and Terrance Mitchell closed the spring as the primary backups at cornerback, along with junior Scott Grady (13 tackles) and redshirt freshman Dior Mathis. Hill had a particularly impressive Spring Game with four tackles, two pass breakups and a dazzling 40-yard kickoff return. SPECIAL TEAMS The Ducks return all their elements from last year’s explosive group that led the nation with five punt return touchdowns and finished second in the country in punt return average (16.98 yards). Cliff Harris will once again double up as the nation’s most dangerous returner after being named a first-team AllAmerican in that capacity in 2010. Harris found the end zone four times on punt returns, including on two consecutive returns in the season-opening rout of New Mexico. The Ducks even boast depth there as Kenjon Barner has also proven adept in the return game and scored on an 80-yard punt return of his own against Tennessee last fall. Those two, along with Josh Huff (24.7 yard/kickoff return) will also be the primary ball handlers on kickoffs. Oregon also returns starting punter Jackson Rice for a third year (42.3 avg.), and last season’s placekicker, junior Rob Beard, who converted 10 of his 13 field goal attempts and drilled all but one of his 64 extra point attempts. Rice also placed 18 of his 40 punts inside the 20 yard line and drilled eight punts 50 yards or more a year ago. Sophomore Alejandro Maldonado will benefit from a year of experience under his belt as both a punter and placekicker, while Eric Solis added nine PATs and a trio of field goals in four tries.

GENERAL INFORMATION

starters Brandon Bair, Zac Clark and Kenny Rowe, who combined for 42 tackles for loss and 14 sacks a year ago. Senior Terrell Turner returns as the unit’s lone returning starter at defensive end. While it is Turner who assumes the role as the veteran leader, more snaps could be in the offing from juniors Dion Jordan (33 tackles, 2 sacks in 2010) and Brandon Hanna (18 tackles, 2.5 sacks), and redshirt freshman Tony Washington on the perimeter. Sophomores Taylor Hart (18 tackles, 2 sacks), Ricky Heimuli (9 tackles) and Wade Keliikipi (18 tackles) top the charts among the returnees inside, while the unit could also receive a boost from junior Jared Ebert, a junior college transfer who made four tackles during the Spring Game. The Ducks will also try to fill the void of departed linebackers Casey Matthews and Spencer Paysinger, who finished first and third on the team in tackles, respectively. Senior Josh Kaddu (6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks) will be depended on to stabilize a new starting trio. Sophomore Boseko Lokombo (36 tackles, 3 fumble recoveries) will again factor into the defensive rotation while junior Michael Clay could see starting time at weak side linebacker. In the middle, junior Kiko Alonso and senior Dewitt Stuckey were locked in a battle for the starting spot following spring ball. Alonso missed all of last season, but played in 12 games during the 2009 season while Stuckey has stepped onto the field for 19 games in his career. Perhaps the greatest strength on the defensive side lays in the secondary, where four experienced starters return to the mix. Coming off an electric campaign on both special teams and defense, junior Cliff Harris (23 passes defended, 6 interceptions) led the country in passes defended (1.77 avg.) and tied for 10th in interceptions as a lockdown cornerback in 2010. While his dazzling kick returns come to mind first, Harris showcased his abilities on defense in the second game of the year when he returned an interception 76 yards for a score to spur the Ducks’ second half rout at Tennessee. He also made 33 tackles, 24 of which were solo stops. Also back for more is junior free safety John Boyett, who finished second on the team with 78 tackles, 14 passes defended and five interceptions a year ago. That performance earned him second-team
