A Guide To Make Mug Mats Mug mats are smaller versions of placemats that can be used as a placemat for a cup of tea or coffee. They’re a great way to polish your sewing skills. They’re easy to create and require minimum stitching. If you don’t know how to create a mug mat then checkout our step-by-step tutorial below. Let’s get started! Directions: Step 1: Trim the embroidery design of the size you want. Make sure to leave enough fabric around them to sew the strips of fabric around them. Step 2: Cut a strip of size 2” wide from a fabric matching the color of your stitchout. Sew the strip to one side of embroidery piece. Trim and place the next piece as shown below and sew using ½” seam.
Repeat until you have “framed” the whole piece.
Step 3: Trim the edges properly and cut a fabric piece for the back side.
Step 4: Sew the back to the front using ½” seam. Make sure to keep an opening of at least 2” to turn the project inside out and fill it.
Step 5: Turn your project inside out. Push the edges out with a point turner carefully. Step 6: Make a funnel from a card board to fill the bag easily. Make sure not to overfill the bag. Sew the opening with hand or machine to complete the project.
Your mug mat project is complete after sewing the opening properly.
