DOLMEN srl PROJECT AND SERVICES FOR ENGINEERING

C.M.F Casseforme Italia Precast construction system

Dolmen s.r.l. is a company for engineering services that was born in 1992. It is the result of the work experiences of a highly professional staff with a twentyyears work in civil and industrial building sector both in Italy and abroad.

Dolmen s.r.l. is specialized in the precast field. Dolmen s.r.l. has already dealt successfully in the past with this type of challenges: • • • • • •

Construction and management of a precast factory; Management of a technical office for precast production; Design and construction of industrial buildings; Civil engineering works (bridges, roads, infrastructure, etc..); Design and construction of commercial buildings (shops, malls); Precast system for affordable houses in developing countries.

C.M.F. Casseforme Italia works for more than thirty years in the precast field. C.M.F. Casseforme Italia is a company specialized in design and construction of precast production plants. Through a collaboration between the two companies can provide services ranging from design and construction of the factory and the production plant to the assembly of the finished product.

Who are we?

The concept of precast construction includes those buildings, where the majority if structural components are standardized and produced in plants in a location away from the building, and then transported to the site for assembly. These components are manufactured by industrial methods based on mass production in order to build a large number of buildings in a short time at low cost. The main features of this construction process are as follows: • • • •

The division and specialization of the human workforce; The use of tools, machinery, and other equipment, usually automated, in the production of standard, interchangeable parts and products; Compared to site-cast concrete, precast concrete erection is faster and less affected by adverse weather conditions; Plant casting allows increased efficiency, high quality control and grater control of finishes.

This type of construction requires a restructuring of entire conventional construction process to enable interaction between design phase and production planning in order to improve and speed up construction.

Why precast concrete?

Very important in the system of prefabrication is the design phase of the building artefact in order to allow the operation of the entire system (production and assembly). The constructive details studied in the phase of design and engineering are designed in a much more detailed than the traditional construction system, this leads to significant advantages in terms of product quality and economic control of the same.

The precast elements (walls, roof‌) can be designed to meet the needs of the environment weather construction.

Design process

In design of precast members and connections, all loading and restraint conditions from casting to end use of the structure should be considered. The stresses developed in precast elements during the period from casting to final connection may be more critical than the service load stresses. Special attention should be given to the methods of stripping, storing, transporting, and erecting precast elements. When precast members are incorporated into a structural system, the forces and deformations occurring in and adjacent to connections should be considered. The structural behaviour of precast elements may differ substantially from that of similar members that are monolithically cast in place. Design of connections to transmit forces due to shrinkage, creep, temperature change, elastic deformation, wind forces, and earthquake forces require special attention. Details of such connections are specially important to insure adequate performance of precast structures.

Design process

Rough and Tough The strength of precast concrete gradually increases over time. Other materials can deteriorate, the load-carrying capacity of precast concrete is deriver from its own structural qualities and does not rely on the strength or quality of the surrounding backfill materials. Studies have shown that precast concrete products can provide a service life in excess of 100 years. In severe conditions, additional design options are available to extend the life of concrete products.

We’re Talking Quality Here Because precast concrete products typically are made in a controlled plant environment, they exhibit high quality and uniformity. Problem affecting quality typically found on job site- temperature, curing conditions, poor craftsmanship and material quality- are nearly eliminated in a plant environment.

Engineering Precast concrete system is supported by engineering specific to both the particular assembly and production methods and to the project site conditions. The constructive details studied in the phase of design and engineering are designed in a much more detailed than the traditional construction system, this leads to significant advantages in terms of product quality and economic control of the same

Precast concrete system have many advantages over competing materials

The phases of the system are as follows: •

Construction of the production plant or setting of an existing plant;

Development of the project of the houses according to the standards and requirements of the customer;

Start of production in factory;

Assembly on building site.

Important to remember, that the plant, once made, can be used for the production of other types of architecture and civil engineering (schools, hospitals, bridges, etcc ....).

Phases of the system

Manufacturing plant The first operational phase consists of the construction of the manufacturing plant. Obviously, the size of the same depends on the amount of houses that you want to produce, and the speed with which you wish to accomplish.

The engineers of Dolmen Srl have more than thirty years of experience in the production of precast concrete elements.

HOUSING FIELD Developing countries needs  Costs building control;  Use of raw materials readily available;  Use of not specialized local labor.

At the base of the project, we can detect the will to carry, in those places where the houses will be built, all the technical skills and resources necessary for the realization of an industrial building system. In particular, the prefabricated system, it is proposed to combine the requirements relating to a high level of efficiency in terms of cost and resources. It does not require the use of specialized labor for its implementation and can be used for a great variety of building types.

At the basis of our system there is the desire to use raw materials easily available in developing countries. In this particular case, the raw materials used are as follows: • Cement • Aluminum • Steel • Wood

Roofing with fiber cement or aluminum panels.

Wooden trusses.

Gable with fiber cement panels.

Bearing structure with precast reinforced concrete panels. insulating panels can also be produced thermally.

Concrete foundation.

Elements

The system allows to realize different types of thermal insulation for the best possible adapt to different types of weather situations. Inside the panel is always inserted an insulating layer made of polystyrene. This layer may have different thicknesses depending on the needs of the customer. This is the easiest solution for thermal insulation. We performed the thermal analysis in order to ensure maximum thermal comfort inside buildings.

Elements

A more efficient solution involves the use of a double layer of insulation. This type of solution allows to achieve high levels of energy efficiency and thermal comfort.

The level of thermal insulation required by the customer can also be achieved with other types of technical solutions which provide a detailed thermal design of the building.

Day 5

Modular Pre-Casting construction with BCA Concrete.

Description: The term BCA originated in France which literally means «cellular reinforced concrete». The Concrete is mixed using the normal components of reinforced concrete with chemical additives wich creates miniature foam bubbles. The physical characteristics and stregth of the resultant concrete is not reduced. However, the weight is significantly reduced and that at the same time the concrete acquire insulation properties, both temperature and acoustical.
