CATALOG OF MEDICINAL, AROMATIC PLANTS AND FUNGI IN REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO Geographical position, relief configuration, geologic and pedagogic composition, climate conditions determine the rich and rather interesting flora of the Republic of Kosovo ; a big number of endemic and steno-endemic plants are important natural resources. This was proved and documented by up to date researches and publications.

Areas of special importance are river canyons, in particular subalpine and alpine zones rich with relict and endemic-relict species of Non Wood Forestry Product sector NWFP. Kosovo has a very good geographical position - it is located almost in the centre of the Balkans. Two basic climate regions could be found: mountains and lowland.

The average annual air temperature in the low and hilly lands is 10.72oC. The coldest period extends in four months (December - March) - the lowest average air temperature is in

January (- 0.9 oC), while the highest is in August (21.15 oC).

Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP) and wild fruit trees (WFT) have been used since ancient times, today they are used in traditional medicine by different peoples, but many of these plants today are explored in the scientific aspect and they are the main ingredients of many medicines that are produced by various global pharmaceutical companies.
