Our Story A crippling injury as a young adult inspired Gary Young to look for answers and relief. Impressed by the healing properties of therapeutic-grade essential oils, Gary learned the healing art of essential oil therapy and developed his own distillation method. Today, his years of study and guidance from world experts have become a driving force to restore the proper use of essential oils in everyday life. And the results—four farms on three continents, a proprietary distillation process, the nation’s largest therapeutic-grade essential oil distillery, and global leader status in essential oils—speak for themselves. ST. MARIES, IDAHO, USA

In 1992, Gary purchased 160 acres of pristine farmland near the small logging town of St. Maries, Idaho. There he began growing and harvesting lavender, peppermint, and tansy. The property had never before been plowed or subjected to harsh chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers—making it an ideal location to begin producing YLTG essential oils. MONA, UTAH, USA

In 1995, Gary obtained an additional 138 acres of farmland in Mona, Utah. Today, this farm boasts approximately 1,600 acres which showcase vibrant lavender fields during the months of June and July. Young Living’s Utah farm also features fields of chamomile, peppermint, hyssop, helichrysum, and clary sage—all of which are distilled on the farm, which houses the largest essential oil distillery in North America. Well known for its rolling hills, fresh-grown crops, and fragrant fields of lavender, the Provence area of France is home to Young Living’s third farm, the only American-owned lavender farm in the country. The residents of Provence believe that the scent of lavender exerts its calming, uplifting effects on the village and people of the area. GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR

Since 2005 Gary has lived in Ecuador, where he has been researching new aromatic plants and herbs found in Guayaquil’s fertile soil. There Gary oversees the planting, distillation, and production of essential oils on site at Finca Botanica Aromatica. With more than 4,500 acres, this newest farm produces an abundance of Palo Santo trees, lemongrass, and several previously unknown plants.

The Guayaquil farm, in conjunction with those in the US and France, provides Young Living with an ongoing source for oils that are in critically short supply around the world. Young Living Therapeutic Grade Young Living Therapeutic Grade ™ (YLTG) means that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the optimal naturally-occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect. It’s what sets us apart from oils that simply smell good, and the standard by which our products are created. This strict cultivation process—illustrated by the Four Ps—guarantees the optimal potency of every Young Living essential oil: Plants

An oil’s potency can be affected not only by selecting the proper plant to cultivate, but also by where the plant is grown, the quality of soil in which the seed is planted, and even the time of day it’s harvested. Only those plants that produce the most active and widest array of therapeutic compounds are selected. Preparation

Young Living uses a gentle, proprietary technique for steam-extracting the most potent essential oils, which remains unmatched across the essential oils industry. To meet YLTG distillation standards, proper temperature must be maintained throughout the distillation process, and pressure, length of time, equipment, and batch size are strictly monitored. YLTG standards prohibit the acceptance of any diluted, cut, or adulterated oils. Purity

Every batch of essential oils is subjected to rigorous, state-of-the-art analysis at the Young Living chemistry lab. Using some of the most advanced equipment in the world, our scientists subject every batch of essential oils to Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer testing. Oils that exhibit even the slightest hint of possible adulteration or tampering are rejected. Potency

The culmination of the preceding three stages, Potency means that the naturally occurring compounds contained in each essential oil product are of the highest and most consistent bioactive levels. Without strict adherence to the YLTG standard in the Plants, Preparation, and Purity phases, the final product would not have the necessary potency to create the desired effect.

How To Use Essential Oils The use of essential oils in everyday life dates back to 4500 BC, in everything from perfumes to medicinal and ceremonial purposes. Modern research suggests that pure, Young Living Therapeutic Gradeâ&#x201E;˘ essential oils can benefit both the body and mind.

Inhalation • Direct inhalation—simply smell them. • Diffuse using a Young Living diffuser which disperses the oil (into the air) in a micro-fine vapor. • Fill a humidifier with water. Place a tissue or small cloth, sprinkled with a few drops of oil, in front of the escaping vapor. (Do not put oil in your humidifier. It will float on top of the water instead of rising with the water vapor and may cause damage to your humidifier.) • Carefully pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of oil. Cover your head and bowl in a tent-like fashion with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly.

Topical Application Key points of application on the body include:

To apply topically on any of these areas, follow these simple steps:

1. Place 2–3 drops of oil in the palm of the hand or apply directly to the desired area. 2. If placing oil in your hand, rub your palms together in a circular motion and then massage the oil onto the desired areas. If applying directly, use your hand to massage the oil in a circular motion into the skin. Repeat if necessary. Attention: Essential oils are very potent, and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs,

immediately apply V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Please read label directions for each individual oil before using.

Internal Consumption • Add several drops of oil to an empty capsule and swallow with water. • Add 1–2 drops to a glass of water or rice milk. • Place 1–2 drops onto a slice of bread or add to your meals when cooking. • Add 1–2 drops onto a teaspoon of Young Living Blue Agave and swallow. • Drop directly onto the tongue and swallow. Since certain oils are very strong, use caution by first pouring a single drop onto a spoon and tasting to determine the amount to be used.

Gary Young’s hands-on experience with clove distillers in Madagascar means that only clove essential oil that adheres to the rigorous Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ (YLTG) standard is accepted. Other essential oil distillers often cut corners and distill only clove’s stem and leaf. While indistinguishable by smell, the clove stem and leaf are chemically inferior to the clove bud, and only by distilling the bud can the optimal amount of the therapeutic compound eugenol (an antiseptic and anesthetic) be extracted. The YLTG standard ensures that distributors are able to enjoy the therapeutic properties they have come to expect in popular products like Thieves and Longevity.
