Origin Origin is a family run British company who design and manufacture contemporary furniture products for use within education, workplace, healthcare and hospitality environments. We strive to make good design available to everyone, that’s why we design quality products that both meet the demands of some of the biggest brands in the world, yet are accessible to someone starting their first cafe.

Base is a collection of 3 stacking stools that aim to create a new standard by improving the aesthetic, function and sustainable role of the modern plastic stool. Base is familiar yet refreshingly simple in expression, with clean lines and a minimal design making them easy to use in a range of indoor and outdoor environments, décors and styles. Flexibility is at the heart of the design, the stools are lightweight and so can be moved around with ease. While vertical stacking provides the ability to easily scale seating whether for meetings, dining spaces, talks, gatherings or for extra guests. Base stools are made from over 50% post-industrial recycled plastic in a robust, long-lasting design and are produced from a single material making them easier to recycle.

We recognise the importance of moving to more sustainable methods of manufacture and procurement. That’s why we’ve recently increased the use of recycled PP in our poly chairs; a step which is part of our ambition to build an ever more sustainable furniture company and become part of the circular economy.

50% of the polymer used in all Origin’s Poly chairs are now made from recycled content and to bring the same rigid and durable product we use prime glass to reinforce the stools. The new compound material has been optimised to maintain the same aesthetic appeal and durable qualities, but now shipped with a more environmentally friendly footprint.

“It’s always been our ambition to make chairs from recycled materials. The challenge has been to ensure we can ship the same standard of product without busting the budget. After years of persistence and (many!) a failed trial, I’m happy we’ve not only got a winning formula but can ship for the same price.
