From the Director The Origins Program has been a huge success. This year five students and two professors from the DePaul University visited Mexico for the Origins Nano Exchange. Later in May, the Mexican students of Universidad Panamericana visited Chicago to capture the Latino soul of the Mexican community. The binational photo exhibitions will be held in Septembre 30th (Chicago) and October 11th (Mexico City) that will make a superb wrap up. In Chicago the Origins Photographic Exhibition (DePaul Univeristy) will be part of the official celebration of Mexican’s Bicentennial. I want to thank all the memebers and directors of the Origins Program for all the work to create a unique and wonderful experience. The next step will be the Origins 2010 Photograhic Book.

The Origins Experience “...a lifetime experience and a bridge between cultures. When we created the Origins Program as a binational interchange program between Universidad Panemericana (Mexico City) and DePaul University, we believed that this was a momentous ocassion. The Nano Exchanges provided the opportunity, for the students of both countries, to dig into the Latino origins. The result was far and beyond all our expectations. The product were wonderful photographs, but also a beautiful friendship. Thanks to the Origins Social Network, students and professors from both countries have been in touch throught the forums, exchanging videos and sharing their photographic experience. The photographic exhibitions will be a great opportunity for the students to show their works in an international environment. Origins is a lifetime experience and a bridge between cultures.
he exchanges between the DePaul and Panamericana students were really productive to break down some of the preconceptions
The Nano Exchange: Origins México Five students and two professors from DePaul University traveled to Mexico to attend the Mexico City Origins Nano Exchange. For a week, the participants visited Universidad Panamericana, attended special classes of Latino culture and had photographic expeditions. Each day, the participants visited a different place in Mexico City: from Coyoacan to El Zócalo. One of the most important visits was the trip to Teotihuacán. For this visit, they had an expert on Prehispanic Culture as a guide: Julio Diana, a scholar that has published many books regarding precolumbian people. The classes included gastronomy, music, history and economy. The Chicago “chicas” met many new friends and by the end of the trip there were really sad goodbyes.
The Origins Program was very well planned. And very well put together. I was extremely pleased with the overall experience. Barbara Speicher

I think you only get one chance in a lifetime to do these types of experiences. I am super glad that I chose to do it. It was amazing. Something I will be able to share through photos forever. (From the anonymous Origins Evaluation Survey)
