Orlando Science Center will attempt to set a new world record this month and make it into the history books (and also hopefully the Guinness World Record book)!
We'll be attempting to break the record for "Most people flying one paper rocket each simultaneously at a single venue".
This record requires nearly 300 participants to launch a paper rocket from a straw within approximately 15 seconds.
We'll have all 300+ of our participants, our independent stewards, volunteer witnesses, and the adjudicator in the CineDome for the record breaking attempt!
Guinness World Record's vision and mission is to inspire a science of wonder and to document the incredible. We're hoping to do just that while breaking the record! During the attempt, we’ll be highlighting STEM concepts about rocketry and talking about the recent Europa Clipper space mission.
Our world record attempt is scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 16!

OPPORTUNITIES AT THE INTERSECTION
For millennia, indigenous people of the North American continent have used their intimate understanding of their environment to sustainably harvest and care for the land Indigenous knowledge, or traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), has similarities to Western science, but also many key difference.
Although both Indigenous knowledge and Western science include observations and data collection, Indigenous knowledge is place-specific, whereas Western science tends to search for universal rules.
Indigenous knowledge is rooted in the relationship between humans and their environment, as well.
Take care of your mental health. A mental health counselor may help you find healthy ways to cope with stress
Work closely with your primary care provider. They can help you prevent or manage diabetes and refer you to other health care professionals for related health problems.
The knowledge gained through Indigenous ways of knowing are managed by the community, in contrast to Western science’s focus on publishing, patents, and restrictions in academia.
“In indigenous ways of knowing, it is understood that each living being has a particular role to play,” says Robin Wall Kimmerer in her book titled Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.
