GOODFOOD

URBAN COMMUNITY & RESEARCH CENTER A. MANTHRIPRAGADA | ARCHITECTURE 100B | SPRING 2013

G O O D F O O D is a conjunction of multiple and varied programs centered around a common set of interests, which could generally be described as food awareness and education, challenging the norms of mass food production, advancing food research, slow food, promoting and supporting urbanfarming and food production, and the more general celebration of good, healthy, local food. The productive merger and interaction of these programs and the spatial typologies they produce is an essential polemic of the project.

POTRERO LIBRARY LIBRARY REDESIGN WITHIN THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO K. PLYMALE | ARCHITECTURE 100A | FALL 2012

The P O T R E R O L I B R A R Y redesign project enabled focus on interior social and individual space, movement, form, envelope,a nd program in a constrained site. With the proliferation of digital media, it may seem paradoxical that the program was a library. In fact, the web has been credited for fueling an increase in library use that, in turn, has led to a library boom. While fewer books are being borrowed, library visits are up by millions of people a year.

PUBLIC STAIR CIRCULATION THROUGH SEQUENCE K. PLYMALE | ARCHITECTURE 100A | FALL 2012

San Francisco is in a sense a vertical city, defined by its hills as a consequence of its geography as much as for its famous bridges and buildings. The city's steep streets are legendary and immortalized in film and television. The P U B L I C S T A I R s that connect those streets are spaces woven through the urban context providing unique opportunities for public space. This project requires consideration of the outdoor stair as more than circulation defined by limitations [height and access] but as occupied public space within the urban environment that provides opportunities for program and experiences.

MEDIA TIC PERFORMATIVE PRECEDENT

A. MANTHRIPRAGADA | ARCHITECTURE 100B | SPRING 2013

Studying exemplary buildings to learn how other architects have attempted to activate and actualize a similar set of interests. Learning by example is an essential method of furthering one's own design knowledge and abilities, and is one of the most vital skills to learn. Regarding the M E D I A T I C installation in Barcelona, Spain, analysis begins by learning about and documenting the building. This learning entails both the actualities of the buildings [what it is], as well as the larger cultural and artistic narrative of the project [why it is].

Sc

The C O N C E P T U A L C U T is a vigorous exploration of the relationship between spatial organization, structure, envelope, performance, and to understand the rudiments of how construction allowsthese relationships to unfold.

DOUBLE NEGATIVE A NEGATIVE + A NEGATIVE = A POSITIVE K. PLYMALE | ARCHITECTURE 100A | FALL 2012

The D O U B L E N E G A T I V E, like architecture at its best, should be designed within a conceptual premise. This involves rigorous and specific thought combined with more generalized abstract thinking toproduce a formal and conceptual language for your project. The premise of the project informs the design decisions in both direct and indirect ways. Concepts develop from ideas that are visible in the work. These concepts are not fixed a-priori verbal thoughts, but are culled from interrogating the work that was created in a critical manner. D

ELLWOOD HOUSE, NO. 18 CASE STUDY HOUSING

K. PLYMALE | ARCHITECTURE 100A | FALL 2012

The E L L W O O D H O U S E, N O . 1 8 was apart of the Case Study House Program, initiated by John Entenza of Arts & Architecture magazine in 1945; one of Southern California's most important contribution to architecture. With the utilization of the Case Study House Program to review and document particular-building systems: frame, wall, roof, spatial characteristics and program, and building/landscape relationships. The selected buildings represent very clear architectural building systems and can serve as a tool for clear analytical critique.

STRAWBERRY CREEK BUILD W. HOOD | ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN 11B | FALL 2011

The T O W E R project located amidst Strawberry Creek that flows through the University of California, Berkeley is meant to present a topographic reading and a specific site intervention to the area that it is placed.

OAKLAND SRO RESIDENTIAL TOPOGRAPHY

W. HOOD | ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN 11B | FALL 2011

The O A K L A N D S R O is about the study of foundation, frame, structure, wall, and roof. It is simply a concrete floor/ground plane system; the framing system is a steel frame composite that emerges from the foundation. Based on site goals and programmatic needs material subtraction from the residential boxes. Walls and columns were added in order to support the overall design. The site strategy yielded a series of approaches to the program; public/private, inside/outside, orientation, and access.

KAYAK ENCLOSURE ALAMEDA BEACH BUILD

W. HOOD | ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN 11B | FALL 2011

The K A Y A K E N C L O S U R E located in along the Alameda coastline, is meant to replace all landscapes (trail, primarily dune and beach) conditions within the thirty-five foot wide frame/wall parameter. Throughout the project, strategic negotiations must be discussed and made to fit within all the given parameters. The vertical strand must replace all existing physical and natural elements/features that make up the 1.5 mile long beach strand.

NIKON D3100 SLR CAMERA | PERSONAL | 2009 - 2014

The P H O T O G R A P H Y covers a wide arrange of personal interests. The opening photographs capture my vested interest in the built environment. They capture the similarities and differences between urban space and landscape. The closing photographs capture my vested interest in the development of children and families living in the third world. They capture the joy that they inhibit.
